5 reviews for Pacifica State Beach
I love the main Pacifica Beach that spans from Cabrillo Hwy 1 x Crespi - Linda Mar Boulevard because on any given day you can see surfers, fishermen (gosh the photos in the Pacifica Tribune of the gigantic fish caught fresh from the beach is incredible), doggies running for frisbees, and kids using their imagination while building what they call a "sandcastle".
The seagulls are aggressive bastards out here so be careful with your yummies! I will admit when I lay down on my blanket the sounds of the waves and the seagulls when they fly overhead tells my mind to slow everything down and relax because I am at the beach. . . my happy place. . . the place I recharge. . . the place I like to hide when I need solitude to solve life's riddles.
I am sad that we used to be able to build gigantic bonfires here - no more. Not even an intimate fire at the beach for a summer night picnic. ::sigh:: I will get over it, I think.
I say - if you are having a bad day, pack a picnic, your sun tent, and drive down Hwy 1 to hang out at the beach. That is hands down, the very best therapy, and it costs you nothing!
Great Highway Beach cannot even compare to the beauty of the Pacifica State beach with its' own Taco Bell right on the sand (and a "wet" walk up window for surfers and water lovers). Did you know we locals dedicate volunteer time to clean the beach up on random days and times (like post 4th of July when out of towners do fireworks here and have the gall to leave their mess behind that endanger the wildlife, ugh!)
I love the beach. I love a clean beach. I love spending quiet time at the beach just like everyone else who stays far enough to offer solitude. This is why I love Pacifica Beach.
Can you hear the seagulls I mentioned earlier? ::smile::

Location is lovely!
They are also pet friendly there, everyone know that you have to pick up after your furry friend so lets not break that rule people!
The locals know my BFF Ula hes ways at the far end of the beach playing tag with the other pooches. The people are nice an friendly great place to go fishing on the Pier or just to do sports activities.
There are picnic areas where you can BBQ or just hang out with the family for lunch. Summer time the sun is shinning and the weather is sweet.
WARNING-- NOT a family friendly beach! Sewer outflow and dangerous water quality makes this a dicey choice for kids! Apparently the people who come here are unable or unwilling to read the sign that says dogs must be leashed, they also think this is a perfect place for their dogs to take a dump. You can expect to be harassed by big dogs including pit bulls because of their low-brow owners. The beach is covered in dogsheet and smells of it. The surfers who come here are cool and this criticism is not aimed at them - but they are only interested in the quality of the waves not the quality of the beach so their opinions must be weighed carefully! Surfers we need your help in repairing this State beach. This could become a good beach if the locals enforced the rules. There should be a an area on the beach that dogs can be off leash, but that requires responsible owners.
The pro-development tools in town are at war with the environmentalist so they are either too stupid or too short-sighted to know a good thing when they see it, they would rather cut-off their nose to spite their face and so they have let this beach go down the drain so that they can stick it to the pro-environment crowd. This beach should be the crown jewel of Pacifica that would attract new businesses and families, Instead it stinks; who want to eat a Taco Bell near a sewer?. If you don't care about surfing then avoid this beach, there are many nice beaches just down the road towards Half Moon Bay.

The beach is located off Highway 1 in downtown Pacifica.
From San Francisco: Highway 1 South - Exit Paloma/Francisco Blvd.
From Half Moon Bay: Take Highway 1 North - Exit Oceana Blvd
The kids and I love to hang out at this beach. Many friendly surfers are always around excited about teaching the hard sport. My kids love to bring their boogie boards to body surf against the waves. Even my dogs love to hang out on this clean beach. Great sand castles can be made and if you and the kids wear your wet suits, the water is actually not that cold! There is some bathrooms and cold showers available to the public. There is also a Taco Bell on the beach if you get hungry. I haven't tried it out yet...I'll let you know when I do.
If your child has to do a mission report then you and the family can make a day of it by visiting the San Francisco de Ass (Mission Dolores) and then enjoying this beach! I will give a review of the Mission Delores later...but for now I will just say that it is a beautiful mission.

This is the best surf beach I've seen so far for both beginners and advance surfers alike. I've been to Bolinas and Santa Cruz and I like Pacifica State beach because of its constant great waves and it's right next to NorCal Surf shop where you can rent/buy your gears. Also, it's packed with surfers and there's plenty of room for everyone. It's just nice to see all these surfers come out to the beach and just enjoy the nice waves. I noticed that there's a lot of long boarders so I'm pretty sure it's a great place for beginners. There's plenty of parking, restaurant, shops, etc. that's walking distance from the beach. There's also Taco Bell right on the beach, just in case you need to refuel and don't want to walk as far. I love all the little rocks of different shapes, colors, and patterns along the shoreline. Families with their kids and pets enjoy the warm sand and the heat of the sand as they watch the surfers and wait for the fog to roll out. I don't think that the fog bothers the surfers as much either. Also, it only lasts till late in the morning so you have the whole afternoon with the sun out. Around the corner, there are fishermen who climb down the cliff to get a good spot by the rocky area and wait for a good catch.
