While their pastries cost a little more than I'd want, the quality of their food is great!

I've gotten a few muffins that have been great for breakfast.
I also took my boyfriend here yesterday for an early dinner. They have a few discounts on some of their menu items after 3pm!

I got the fish and chips, while he got the Cajun Chicken sandwich and caesar salad. Both filling and tasty! You get a good amount of food for a decent price because of the discounted prices. Their coleslaw is a little weird since it does have apples in it..but the fish and the fries were great!

Can't wait to try more things at this cafe!

I had the homemade beef stew over noodles. It was pretty good, although not as flavorful and hearty as I had hoped.  Bf had the School Boy breakfast. He thought it was standard. Two of my friends got the eggs benedict, which came on a puff pastry instead of English muffin. They both said it was pretty good, but would have preferred the English muffin.

The place is a little steep for what it is (order at the counter type place). $10 for an omelet. I think my beef stew was $11.

    Atmosphere is bright and modern.

Pacific Whey Cafe and Bakery does convincingly good breakfast fare and baked treats, albeit with jaw droppingly long lines and at a stiff premium.

We have tried to dine at Pacific Whey Cafe at two times prior to this mornings breakfast and walked away thanks to lines that seemingly backed up to South Laguna. This morning we noticed that the line was finally contained within the eateries own walls, so we decided to give it a shot. It still took over twenty minutes to order. Meanwhile, we got to stand in line and watch as spoiled children ran loose like animals with reckless abandon. We ordered the eggs Benedict special along with the French Toast Pockets. Then we waited another 15 minutes to be served as the wails and shrieks of snot nosed crumb crunchers pierced our ears. I recommend eating outside to evade the noise, the parents clearly do not concern themselves with their children's public behavior. Disgusting.

With 35 minutes and a slight headache invested in this meal, it had better have been very good. Thankfully, it was. Damn good in fact.

The taste of the Eggs Benedict completely explains the Bruxie-like lines. It was an intoxicating combination of perfectly poached eggs perched upon two thin slices of ham and then layered on fresh sourdough toast. A healthy dousing of creamy, thick and oh-so-savory hollandaise sauce closes the deal. The Eggs Benedict is flanked by skillet fried potatoes and fresh fruit. This is a 5 star breakfast if I have ever had one and ALMOST worth the required effort to experience.

The French Toast Pockets dish was also quite good. French Toast is stuffed with a rich and decadent raspberry cream cheese and adorned with a berry sauce. The first several bites were wonderful but as I continued to eat, started to become cloyingly sweet and simply to rich for my palette. I would have loved this with all of my heart when I was 14 years old. Now, it was a bit much and would have been better served as a small treat rather than a full plate.

The environs are what you would expect in Newport Coast, pristine and picturesque. Considering how packed the resturant gets, I was surprised that there was ample seating available.

The screaming children was a situational event, I would like to think that most parents would be less self-important than the crowd we dined with. The lines however are a fact of life at Pacific Whey on the weekends. Would I return? Sure, so long as it was on a weekday without lines or blaring kiddies.

4 and 1/2 star food, 3 star experience.

breakfast less than impressive. wilted fruit, cold eggs, cold toast rock hard cold butter and bitter OJ.  Presentation of food looked awful.   What is going on Pacific Whey?  Your food and service standards have really declined over the last year or so.  1 star removed for the crappy service and lack of empowerment of your counter staff.

I had breakfast one late afternoon. Yes, they serve breakfast all day. I enjoyed and egg white scramble with spinach, tomato, ham and cheese. It was cooked to perfection (no browned burned egg's in my scramble). The potatoes were very good also. I recommend the toast and jam as a side. The toast is slightly buttered and the jam is made in house. Together it's bliss.

Ordered a $9.25 breakfast burrito. It was on the slim side, and made wrong. I asked for no potatoes, they included them. So I had to get a redo. I guess cos it's crystal cove, the prices are hiked. The fresh fruit was perfect and awesome.

Their mixed fruit bran muffin was great, good for sharing. Moist, loaded with blueberries and other fruit.

    Their coffee was decent.

    My friend got a SMOC.

I think they serve tap water.  NASTY.

Total was $24.00. Not great value.  Just decent.

    Over. Freakin'. Rated.

Look, I enjoy poppin' pastries on the pretty patio while perhaps feeding pidgeons and other people's pooches as much as the next person.  :D But *nothing* sold here justifies the 25 minute wait in line just to get your order in. I've seen enough Lands' End-clad backsides to last me a lifetime.

My sweetie OTOH thinks the sun rises and sets on PWC, mainly because of their Bavarian "pizza" (custardy pastry crust that indeed resembles something from Hut) and the Bread Pudding. Honey, it's all really very bland; imagine a fat chunk of french toast that never saw vanilla extract, cinnamon,, nutmeg, or what's it called, "flavor"--that's the bread pudding. The Bavarian pizza is a cleverly crafted shallow custard pie. Whatevers.

Came here on accident while visiting Starbucks because it looked inviting. So glad I did, the bakery and desserts were amazing - Creme Brulee Rice Pudding and a Dark Chocolate Cookie, planning on reviewing this place on my site soon but wanted to show some Yelp love...

Weirdness incident - we let these ladies go in front of us because we were deciding....  the cash registers took a crap and we had to wait like 15 minutes, dudes gave the lady in front of us a free meal because of the wait, our turn - machines magically turned on fml (not really but just seemed like an appropriate time to use the term, so fml)

Came here for dinner tonight. The interior ambience reminded me of Corner Bakery/Boudin. It was clean and spacious. The menu seemed similiar too.

I ordered the ground sirloin burger($8.95) plus bacon and avocado($1.00 extra each). It came with a side of shoestring fries. Once it came out, I was impressed by the sheer size of the beef patty. But I was not all impressed by the taste. This was one of the driest burgers I've ever eaten. I had the patty cooked medium well but it was drier than sponge. I added mustard, ketchup, even hot sauce but it didn't help. I needed 2 diet cokes to get it down. The shoestring fries are basically petite french fries. They were okay.

I would give the food 2 stars for the food. DO NOT ORDER THE SIRLOIN BURGER unless you like your meat rare. I should've ordered a sandwich or something else because I'm sure anything would've been better than the burger. I gave this place an extra star because of the cleanliness of the restaurant, the service and they had a jazz trio playing live music, which is always pretty damn cool.

First if you want to come here on a weekend morning be prepared to wait ten minutes in line to order. Best to have a plan where you order and have someone else hunt for a table which can sometimes be hard. I've been lucky everytime but I've seen other's looking around for 5 minutes or so...Hey if it wasn't good why would they have a line out the door?

I love their Chorizo Scramble! It has just the right amount of Egg to Chorizo ratio so it's properly spicy and flavorful. It comes with very fresh fruit and a good variety, potatos and toast. Yummm!

BTW the restaurant has a view of the ocean when looking over the parking lot and on a nice day it just feels good to breath fresh air and have a nice brunch so you can find me here about once every two months...

After long hikes and fighting off warlocks, the family likes to kick it with a light Sunday brekkie at Pacific Whey. If there's a better place in OC to chill on the patio and watch weary revelers decompress after a hard night out at Javier's...I don't know it. The parking lot looks like a Range Rover dealership.

Yesterday was a typically flawless day for the KC family... until we met Dylan from Irvine. After a long walk through Crystal Cove, KC, Mrs. KC, Baby KC and Brudizzle plopped down on the patio and wrestled over what to order. And then we met Dylan. He's in the 5th grade and likes dogs and babies. Dylan also likes to talk... incessantly. He has so many questions.

We did a lot of listening. This Yelper was noticeably silent mainly since Dylan was on a freaking roll, but also because KC was desperately trying to figure out who this heavy set kid was. It took KC about 6 minutes to nail it.... the exact amount of time it takes KC to figure out which Madonna song Lady GaGa has ripped off. (Most recently, KC nailed "Born This Way" which is obviously "Express Yourself")

And then it hit KC. This child before us was none other than a 5th grade Del Griffith from Planes, Trains and Automobiles.

I can't believe I haven't written a review here yet.  I absolutely love this place.

I used to frequent this delicious restaurant often when I lived in the area.

I love the prime rib sandwich - just divine with their caramelized onions!  Yum.  A TRUE steak sandwich.

There are plenty of delicious and decadent pastries behind the case.  You really cannot go wrong with anything.  I've had everything from cookies to muffins to cinnamon pulls and cakes here.  They also have freshly baked dog treats for your pooch.

You also have a nice ocean view beyond the parking lot.  Can't go wrong with that!

Came upon this place while searching for a late lunch place.  I wanted a place with sandwiches + breakfast burritos and the menu fit my desires.  They entice you with a a glass display of their baked goods and that's what made me want to eat here.

The cobb salad sandwich and their burger is REALLY good and definitely hit the spot.

There are two eclectic chairs for a photo-op if you'd like as well.

Love coming here for breakfast or brunch right before a hike down the street or shopping at Fashion Island.  The setup is like Panera Bread or Corner Bakery.  You order at the counter, get a number, look for your own table, and wait for your food to arrive.  They have a wide variety of food to choose from - from french toasts to omelettes to breakfast quesadillas to burgers.  You will definitely find what you are craving for here.

I've had the French Toast Pockets, Eggs Benedict, and California Omelette here.  They are all excellent!  The plates are a perfect portion so you don't feel too bloated or gross afterwards.  Each plate also comes with fresh fruits on the side - an added bonus.  It's also very nice to look out the restaurant at the ocean view while you enjoy your food :)

    Drawbacks:
    - It's pretty hard to get a table here.  The place is always full during weekends, even with outside seating.
    - There are quite a bit of flies flying around inside the restaurant :(

My husband and I stopped at Pacific Whey Cafe this evening for a light dinner.  We were in the mood for breakfast fare, and were happy to see that breakfast is served all day long.  We each had the California omelet, which was delicious, accompanied by a hearty sourdough bread, fresh fruit salad and grilled potatoes.  The omelet had chunks of ripe avocado, tomatoes and a wonderful Swiss cheese.  The fresh fruit was perfectly ripe and sweet without sugar - strawberries, cantaloupe, honeydew melon, pineapple.  The pastries looked amazing, and we were tempted but decided to abstain. About an hour after we left, I realized that I had left my purse in the restaurant.  We immediately drove back and the manager had it behind the counter for me!  I had several credit cards, cash and jewelry in my purse, and it was just as I had left it.  I was so grateful, and the staff of this restaurant deserve cud's for their honesty and integrity!

Having worked at Crystal Court previously, Pacific Whey was one of the few choices where I could get coffee and a small bite to eat. Their coffee tastes mellow, bitter and sour from their half and half. The pastries taste full of shortening and lack of butter.

Did I also mention that my coffee had an insect of some sort in it?

Came here after a nice hike in Crystal Cove State Park (El Moro Canyon).  The line was out the door, as it was brunch time and I guess people wanted a nice breakfast.  There were a LOT of choices on what to get, and I changed my mind about 10 times before I settled on the S.M.O.C. omelette--the spinach, mushroom, onion and cheddar omelette, with egg whites and bacon inside.  It came with potatoes, choice of toast (sourdough) and fresh fruit.  I also got a cafe latte.  My friends got the breakfast burrito and the Skinny Boy meal.

I really enjoyed my omelette.  Very filling, full of flavor and loved how I could modify it.  The fruit was very fresh as well, and the sourdough was great too. The only drawback was that silverware did not come with a knife (which I needed for my toast and my omelette) and that food took a while to come out.  But otherwise, a definite re-visit is in my future!

    Bonus--after 6pm pastries are 1/2 off!

Our friend took us here for breakfast last Sunday. It was nice and sunny after several days of rain, we liked the casual atmosphere, the outdoor seating and the baked goods all looked great. Since we will eat out again later, we decided to have something lighter.

The breakfast quesadilla was done nicely, for $10 it came out hot and tasty with a nice portion of mixed fruits, the best of our orders.

The custard pie (a large slice) did not taste as good as it looked. It's kind of doughy, not very exciting.

The worst was the fruit bowl, for $6 we received a small plate with a few pieces of cut melon, it was less then the side that came with the quesadilla.... very disppointing.

We saw many good looking plates passing by, perhaps we did not order right, but for us it was not great.

The burger is pretty good here and it's a very popular place to go to for breakfast. After 6PM all baked goods are half off, which is an amazing deal, unfortunately the house-made pastries are a disappointment, and I did not care for the cookies, cinnamon roll, or apple turnover that I tried.

Decent cafe to meet friends, have coffee, and some sweets.  Inside, the place smells really wonderful.  The pastries were just OK though.  I asked the counter person to recommend their best pastry and he pointed at the apple crisp.  I ordered and tasted it, and it was super doughy, but kind of bland, nothing very "crispy" about it.  I also ordered the cherry chocolate toffee cookie which was decent.

In regards to service and ambiance, the courtyard outside is shaded and pleasant, although we had to bus the table ourselves before we could sit down.  The staff inside were nice enough though.  The absolute worst thing about this place is the bathroom, SUPER dirty and reeks of urine.  GROSS!  Avoid at all costs!

On a chilly Sunday afternoon we wandered into Pacific Whey Cafe craving delicious food and something sweet. The line was out the door, literally, but went quick enough.

After we ordered we danced around trying to pick a table. Each table was as sticky as a movie theater floor and all of them had crumpled up trash on them. Our food took a surprisingly long time. We even sat and watched other people get theirs who were way behind us in line. Finally the food came.

My pasta in a tomato cream sauce with chicken tasted like cafeteria food. It was so bland and undercooked. We both got Caesar salads as well and they arrived with no dressing. When we finally got the dressing, it was so acidic I didn't even eat mine. My boyfriend had the lasagna, which was decent although watery.

I give the place 2 stars becuase all of the employees were very friendly and I love the large menu with lots to choose from, but, I don't ever really need to come back here.

On my way back from fashion island, I decided to stop by to get some lunch. I got the Fridays special roast beef and cheddar panini, except I substituted swiss cheese for cheddar. I'm not really a cheddar fan. The bread was pretty good, really toasty and buttery. The sandwich as a whole was decent. The sandwich had roast beef, swiss cheese ( in my order), sauteed red and green bell peppers, and it was supposed to have horseradish. But I didn't get my horseradish :(. I was a little disappointed because when I oreder, I knew that the horseradish would top everything off.. but unfortunately I didn't get to experience that part of my sandwich. The portion on the other hand is big so maybe 2 people can even share it?

One thing that I really didn't like about this place was that they tossed my side salad when I made my order to go. I mean come on.. common sense here. By the time I got home, my salad was wilted because of the dressing. I just threw it away.

The whole meal came out to be around 10 bucks O_O pretty pricey ..

Maybe I would consider coming back here... maybe.. later on in my life... when I have kids...but not anytime soon.

MODERATELY priced for decent food. I got the eggs benedict. It came with crispy seasoned potatoes AND fruit. Most places would only serve one or the other with your meal. My eggs were nicely poached over thin sliced ham and smothered with hollandaise sauce. No english muffins here, but instead a pastry (like a croissant, but rectangular in shape). I nearly had heart attack. Rich buttery goodness is not good for the long run.

You walk up and order and a number is given to you to place on the card holder at your self served seat. Not bad if its not crowded. The food runner will come by with your food and get utensils for you from the fully stocked condiments island(such a great idea!).

All the desserts looked delicious as well and is a must have the next time I'm in the area.

Pacific Whey Cafe is delicious! I really liked the shopping center where Pacific Whey was located. Perfect manicured landscaping, clean dining patio. My friend Chelsea and I came here on the first afternoon I arrived in SoCal.

They had a pretty extensive menu. It was hard for me to decide what to eat with so many choices! We decided to share two separate meals so we could experience both. I had the salmon soft tacos with rice and beans. Chelsea had a mixed green salad with grilled chicken, cranberries and goat cheese. Both meals were really flavorful and satisfying!! After our lunch, we bought two mini cupcakes. My red velvet was delicious.

Tip: It is a sit down restaurant, but you order at the front, and take a number. One of the staff members brings it to your table.

It's like a fancy Panera Bakery. Good food and tasty desserts: pastries, cakes, etc.

Went there on a Wednesday night so there weren't many people. I've heard that this place gets busy, especially for brunch on weekends.

This location, in a small upscale strip mall on the Newport Coast is nice. Easy parking, and a quick drive from Newport or Laguna.

I'd recommend going. But it's not exactly cheap. I was treated to dinner, but I think it was about $25 for the two of us. So maybe it's a tad overpriced, but it's a nice location and a fun experience.

    Delicious ice tea.

I come here specifically for their S.M.O.C omelette w. added turkey.

Ughhh. BEST BRUNCH EVER! Always hits the spot! The fruit is always fresh, the portions are very filling and their range of hot sauces (my FAV being Tapatio) is awesome!

My boyfriend usually get the Husky Boy scramble, and he never complains. I always forget to try the pasteries after eating cus I always end up with a food coma at the end.

I've eaten here a couple of times, most recently today.  This place is OK, but way over-priced.  Of course, in the OC Fancy Land, what can one expect?

My breakfast today was average, the eggs and bacon were cool, and the fruit did not seem very fresh.  A breakfast for two was $25.00, which really was a couple of scrambled eggs with bacon and a breakfast burrito.  The dishes came with fruit and potatoes, and the potatoes were probably cooked yesterday.

The coffee was better than average.

This place is OK, kinda like getting something at a Starbucks.  I would not go out of the way to eat here, but if you're in the hood and don't want to drive around, it's OK.

I do like the decor and the appearance, but I'd rather have better food.

Was hoping the food would go great with the ocean breeze.

We had just finished hiking El Moro Canyon and wanted to get some food. Falu R. mentioned that her running group usually gets lunch at this place, but she had never been. So since we were here, we tried it out.

The place is setup like Panera Bread, you order at the counter and someone brings you the food. Being a fan of outdoor dining, I liked their patio - spacious and comfortable

Anish P. and I ordered the BBQ Shredded Pork Sandwich. (I've been on a Pulled Pork kick for a while now, if you've got any suggestions, let me know!). His came out first and mine came out a little after. For his side he ordered a salad, and I got fries. Everything looked great but our sandwiches looked different, they forgot the Crispy Onion Straws on mine, a little odd. I was too hungry to let them know. The fries were good - not too greasy, but the sandwich was dry. So dry, Anish didn't finish his food.

When we first approached the counter, I asked the guy what he recommended. I should have gone with his suggestions because when I asked about the BBQ Shredded Pork, he said it was alright with hesitation.

Next time I'll listen to the guy.

How did I forget to write about Pacific Whey until now?

The food here is delish, but on the pricey side. Still worth it.  The menu has a great selection of comfort food and beyond.  The ambiance is bustling with warm woods and large hung mirrors, and lots and lots of tables inside and out.

Here's what you REALLY need to know:

BEST BREAD PUDDING IN THE WORLD. (+ 1 million stars!)

My boyfriend and I each took a bite, and to quote him, "I will never eat another bread pudding ever again."  It's dense, it's got teeny chocolate chips, and it's big enough for 2-3 people to get their fill.  It's just pure amazingness, and if you don't like it--well that's ok because that just means more for me!  Nothing comes close to this bread pudding.  Unless you combined this bread pudding with say, sex or something... then it might be better.

    Comfortable dog-friendly cafe
Moderately-priced breakfast/lunch plates, coffees, teas & baked goods.  Thick cut bacon, comfy seating, and large patio.  Good place to pet some puppies and grab brunch after church.  :)

This place is in the Crystal Cove Center located across the street from the beach. I have had both breakfast and lunch and it's always crowded. The food is healthy and fairly tasty. The salads are fresh and filled with delicious ingredients. I like the breakfast omelet made with egg whites, portabella mushrooms and spinach, always with a side of blueberry pancakes and coffee. The air always smells fresh from the ocean breeze which enhances the overall feel of eating here.
Oh and you can always stop by and get some pretty good baked goods, nice display counter filled with healthy and unhealthy pastries.
