The location is unbeatable and the rooms are very nice. My only complaint is the parking is too expensive.
If you book last minute they usually have "special" prices which range from $130-$170.
The ocean view rooms are absolutely worth it!
I would give this place 5 stars but;
-$20 for parking
-They don't have the continental breakfast anymore
-They don't have the pool side happy hour anymore
-If you need any info from the Manager you can never get a call or email back.
We have stayed here 8 times in the last year and a half and we love this place. Book threw http://hotels.com. Always book last minute for fall, spring and winter. The prices go down from $270 a night to $80 a night (cheapest we have seen).
Check in late. They will upgrade you from a basic room (they will all be booked) into a better room. We got the presidential sweet one time which is usually like $1000 a night.
My then fiance/now husband got a room here just by chance when we arrived in San Diego a couple days earlier than expected following a cross country road trip. We booked the room on http://hotels.com the day before we arrived for a mere $120 (granted it was a Monday night in May) for the standard no-view room. Boy did we luck out!
This hotel was fantastic. We arrived right in time for "wine hour" by the pool (any place with free wine gets 5-stars in my book, but there's more!) , the room was HUGE, and the staff made a great recommendation to walk to Gringo's for dinner (it was 2 for 1 Monday Margarita night!). We relaxed in the jacuzzi that evening and spent the following day at the beach right in front of the hotel. Awesome!
We liked it so much we're hoping to get a room for our 1-year wedding anniversary/belated honeymoon coming up in August. I probably won't be able to get the deal I got last minute last time, but this hotel is definitely worth a little spending...
I stayed at this hotel in December 2008 but I'm just writing a review now since I'm new to Yelp. This was my best hotel experience ever, though I rarely stay at super-nice places. I am disappointed to learn that they have discontinued the fantastic breakfast experience which was the highlight. Each morning we received complimentary continental breakfast at our door (we picked the time), and then dined out on our balcony while watching the ocean. It was majestic!
I have never in my life had a better hotel experience than during my stay at Pacific Terrace. This place defines customer service. I cannot stress enough how wonderful my time was. Complimentary glass of wine, helpful/friendly staff, incredible service at the pool, quick to respond to any issue (our AC was fixed within minutes), free internet/print ability in the lobby, the list goes on. I highly recommend this place and the ocean front view doesn't get any better!
Can't beat walking right out the back door onto the boardwalk. Decor was a little hokey, but not bad.
Me and my boyfriend went for a mini Vacation, I had researched hotels all over San Diego and this one stood out . We arrived early to avoid traffic, our room wasn't ready (which was fine, we were 4 hrs early) the Concierge gave us a temp key for the hotel, directions for the pool, and parked the car. Note*** 20 dollars a day valet parking sooo worth it, in and out privileges and our car was ready by the time we got to the lobby. Our room was ready an hour early. The bellman brought up our luggage, cooler ect ect. We stayed in the St. Croix Suite 3rd floor center of the hotel, stunning view of the beach, sunset was breathtaking, Jacuzzi tub that was more than roomy. The entire experience was great and I can't think of a single downside.

I would not hesitate to stay here again. It's by far the most beautiful hotel on PB. The rooms are gigantic, clean and nicely decorated. Mine had a 42-inch plasma TV which would've been rad if anything decent was on. They turn down your sheets in the evening and leave chocolate on your pillows. Staff is exceptionally friendly and helpful. Their bath products (shampoos and soaps) are high-quality and they are extremely generous, leaving you brand new ones each day. You get a free paper each morning, free and decent continental breakfast and free wine from 4-5 in the evening.
If I had brought my laptop, I probably would've been disappointed that they don't offer free internet service. But, since I didn't really need it, I was cool with the "kiosk" they provide for guests to check email.
The location of this hotel is awesome. It's within walking distance to tons of food and shopping, but it's also secluded because it's at the north end of the beach and near a swanky residential area. It felt more like a boutique hotel to me because of its size and coziness.
I liked this place so much, I will just book here again. No need to shop around for anyplace else. It's perfect.

(This is a review for our stay during 9/2006)
Comfortable room and amenities. Tommy Bahama-esque decor. We had a premium ocean view room/king suite. TV over the jacuzzi tub, in the bedroom, and in the livingroom (so you wouldn't miss any moment of whatever you're watching, I guess). Plenty of storage space for two ppl to hang out clothes and whatnot. Gorgeous spacious double sink bathroom. Internet was $10+ a day and they lend you the ethernet cable. Parking was $15/day---good idea---we didn't feel comfortable leaving our car out, even though the area looked nice and safe.
Our suite had two good-sized balconies that offered very good view as well as privacy for sitting out and relaxing. We could see the pool from the balcony for the bedroom but noise wasn't a problem indoors. We loved being able to watch the sun go down, ppl walking on the beach, and hear the waves throughout the night (sliding doors open, shutters on). Good-sized livingroom with dining set, kitchen, plasma TV, sofa set, and workspace. In fact, it was more than adequate room for the two of us. It felt like a home away from home, not a hotel stay.
Room service was decent, not spetacular, and they forgot the grapefruit I ordered...but it was so comfortable and enjoyable we didn't mind. We loved our stay. So relaxing. Glad we chose it for (my first) visit to the San Diego area.
Definitely would stay here again. Would recommend it too.

a hotel is a hotel, they are all the same, why bother writing a review about one, they are all the same aren't they? how wrong i was this time.
i actually stumbled across this place last minute to get a room - i mean last second - i just got off an overnight airplane and the taxi dropped me off on mission blvd and i was walking around at midnight looking for a pillow to rest my head.
i walked into the lobby, the concierge said i was lucky there was one room left - it had the following amenities blah blah blah wasn't even listening to him, a was about to go into a sleep deprivation coma.
i got into the room and noticed how huge it was. everything was so new. the decor was so nice. the bed was so high i practically needed a step stool to climb into it. wow that bed was soooo comfortable.
i woke up in the morning and noticed the most beautiful view of the ocean outside on the balcony. it felt like i was at a 5 star boutique resort in the caribbean!!!
the best part about it is you are paying holiday inn prices for a 5 star experience. next time i need to visit Pacific Beach i'll be booking this place in advance.

Pacifc Terrace was the hotel of choice for my 4 day getaway to San Diego. Located right on top of Pacific Beach, this place is definately the place to stay at compared to the other places in PB. I had booked one of the Executive Suites, because hey.. i like big rooms, and this one had a jacuzzi. Our room, located on the 2nd floor, had a view of the ocean as well as the big building across the street. 2 queen beds, a 42" plasma, microwave, sink, spacious bathroom... everything you want from a hotel.
There's really nothing bad I can say about this hotel; the staff was pleasant, the rooms were nice, housekeeping didn't come until the time I specified.
There is Parking underground and they charge $15 a night. I would definately spring for that, since the outside parking is not really that safe.. Breakfast comes with the room, although we decided to go to other places in PB to eat.
I would definately come back here again, for my next trip in SD, mebbe I'll go for an even bigger room...
What can I say??? I had the BEST hotel experience! The staff went above and beyond great customer serivce, the rooms were comfy, cozy and exotic, the views were stunning and the location is perfect! All around 5 star experience!!

Great hotel with only one problem - they nickel and dime for parking
there is a $20 parking surcharge which they don't tell you about when booking online.
but otherwise its a great clean hotel right on the beach...

Love the comfy new beds, they are so tall they even supply you with a stepping stool to get into bed. I have stayed here about twenty times in the past, we like the proximity to our work. We love to stay at the Pacific Terrace even though we live in the S.D. area. We joke that people spend big bucks to visit here.
