CUTE & COOL. Is that possible???
Free is the entrance fee. It's small and sweet. There are some really interesting facts covering these walls from the Native Indians who were enslaved no less by the mentioned invading Spaniards, to the local cowboys and historic figures of Monterey. THEN upstairs, they pay tribute to Native Indians with authentic pottery, clothing, and what-have-you.
With visuals being my career, I was totally impressed by the set up inside. The cut outs, the vintage lithograph prints, everything really. The best part is, everything is such a photo up. There's even a horse with saddle for you to jump on.
You need to make a visit if you haven't been.
Sadly, this is Monterey Bay's best attraction. A labyrinth filled with design-college dioramas presenting early California history in a way that even I can care for and understand. However, nothing here is "authentic". This is not a museum where you can see ol' timey artifacts. You're better off picking off the tiles at the nearby Spanish Mission. It is a museum because that's how they named it. Not a good museum for those who do not want to see another g0d-d4mn thing on sea otters.
