Being an east coaster who's gotten used to the munis of Jersey and NY, this felt like playing on Pebble Beach. the course actually hugs against Spanish Bay on the back nine, making for some incredible scenic backdrops to your approach shots.
Me and friend managed to get a 750am tee time the day before, and even though it was foggy to begin (just bay area weather i guess), it cleared up in time for the back 9.
$45 for the back 9 views were worth it, and it's a pretty flat course so you might want to save yourself the $20 extra to rent the cart. oh, and they rent king cobra clubs--it makes playing there so much better than with old wooden ones.

I was told to play here, "It's where the locals play," they said.  I went to PG very early on a Saturday morning. I got right out, the walking rate for only $45. What a steal!!

The back nine had views of the mighty Pacific on every hole, with six or seven holes right next to the beach. It was definitely a "poor mans" Spanish Bay.

It is a muni, and definitely has its share of blemishes - but you will NEVER get that type of bang for your buck anywhere else. $45 for golf and those views...priceless.  I'll call it 4.5 stars.

Purely great, wish I could come here once a week!  To the house on the 18th hole, "sorry about you're window".  Your probably finding out now "Art Vandelay" isn't calling you back!

Hope you are well -Scott

This is not a Muni! You can indeed enjoy the taste of Pebble Beach Links at the back nine. Great price performance!

At only a few miles (if that) from the historic Pebble Beach, and offering a FANTASTIC back nine experience on the coast for under $50, this is a must-play if you are in the area.

The front nine is short, however, but you won't be remembering much of that after taking in the views on 10 and 11.

Plus I played my best round I've ever played here, so it would get a 5 star rating no matter what. :)

What an awesome public golf course. You just won't believe it until you get there and for $40.00 the price is amazing. The food at the shop is cheap, tasty and filling. The practice range cool and straight. We took my nephew here to hit balls and he had a blast, it was just fun to watch him blast them out there into the sky. He's pretty good you know.

Remember that it is a public links, therefore its condition comes and goes because it is in an unbelieveably harsh location. No sun. Wind. Sand. Salt. Etc. I wouldn't want to be responsible for all of that mess.

The front nine is average but forget about that, it is the back nine that you have to get ready to play. It's links, Pebble Beach cool. I wish they would let you just forget the front nine all together and let you play the back twice.

The greens are pretty choppy/bouncy so expect some missed putts. take advantage of those beautiful tee shots and to-the-green shots on the back nine. They are something else. If you have a kid who golfs, bring him/her here. They will love you for it.

Bring plenty of layers. It's right on the ocean and the wind is brutal.

The greens are now very good; not the caliber of a private course but certainly much, much better than they were just a few months ago.  A new groundskeeper has been hired and overall maintenance has improved markedly.

Truly a fun course to play and although short by many course standards, the small greens and wind conditions will challenge even the accomplished player.

A Muni Golf Course? ARE YOU SERIOUS!? I would pay the green fees for JUST THE BACK NINE! When you compare this to other muni courses, well there's no comparison.  San Jose Muni is about the same price and no where near the experience.  It is a little shorter of a course but links golf is also deceivingly difficult.  The fairways are narrow and the greens are small.  Its the best value within driving distance of the Bay Area. I've also really enjoyed the pace of play here.  I'm rarely ever waiting to tee off or having people waiting for me to finish putting.  I don't know if they give groups more time between starts or if the course is just not as busy but its always been a great time at PG Muni.  Sometimes we make the drive from San Jose to do nothing else but get a quick round in here and then head right back over the hill.

For a mere $50, you get, frolicking deer and puppies of the ocean SEA OTTERS! While you enjoy watching your ball sail into the snow plant covered roughs. The back nine makes you feel like a million bucks and I like that feeling. The place is well worth the money and it played relatively fast and your like 4 minutes from Pebble Beach.

By far the best muni possibly in the world. At $45, well worth the green fees.  The front nine are okay. You wind your way through the neighborhoods in pacific grove trying not to hit wayward deer minding their own business.  The back 9 is where its at.  Beautiful views of the pacific ocean.  If this is a municipal, its hard to imagine how good pebble beach must be.

Friendly staff in the proshop.

BEAUTIFUL.  so far, this is our favorite course.  it has well kept grounds and great views.  and deer wander the course so try not to hit them!

we only played the front nine that was a lot of fun.  wide fairways, 2 par 5's, and the greens weren't too difficult from what i could remember.  can't wait to play it again!

Want some relief from 3 digit greens fees and being paired with blowhards with a 24 handicap and a cigar??? Then this is the place. I was tempted not to review the Grove because I don't want to have a problem getting a tee time, but, it is the season for sharing, so here is my review.  The front nine is a typical inland nine by Alisatair MacKenzie, designer of the great course in Santa Cruz, Pasatiempo and of course, the Augusta Golf Course, home of the masters. Still not enought to convince you? How about the cheap greens fees, the decent burger and beer joint on the course AND saving the best for last-the back nine is referred to the locals as the poor man's Pebble Beach.  I'll say it now, I want to retire here, join the mens club and play every morning during the week and play cards and drink beer in the afternoons. When I get too old to drive, my daughters will have to drive me here. Convinced??
