9 reviews for Pacific Grove Inn
Stayed here this past weekend and loved it. An awesome recession busting value for $120. The breakfast wasn't overly fancy but it was tasty and satisfying. The room was quaint, clean, and romantic with a fireplace, fridge, and towel warmer. I would stay here again. The staff was friendly and the stay included free parking.
I should say that the place was fairly empty this particular weekend so I don't know if there is a lot of noise between units, but I'm giving Pacific Grove Inn the benefit of the doubt and 5 stars because I think this was just about as good as it gets for keeping an eye on the budget around Monterey. The same room rents for around $250 peak season.
At $195 a night for a queen bed and a shower with no tub, this place ranked low on my scale. The hotel is cozy I guess, if you like cranking up the fireplace cause the windows are drafty (definitely not a green hotel). My room was supposed to have a view of the ocean, the only view I saw was the next door lady's nightgowns and socks hanging on the line outside. The hotel is across from a firehouse and we were rudely awaken by the noisy fire engines. If you are looking for safety, don't look at the Pacific Grove Inn, guests are requested not to lock the front door, since there were 3 rooms in the carriage house and someone could get locked out! Any one could walk in, there wasn't a concierge or anything to stop someone looking for trouble from getting in.
The hostess was a darling, but I was skeeved out by the dirty bathroom wallpaper and stained towels. The rooms severely need an upgrade and all the furniture was squeaky, every time I moved on the bed it squeaked loudly enough to wake my up. The foot board of the wire bedframe was literally unscrewed and my husband had to jerry-rig it to not fall off. We were looking forward to the "Victorian charm" but I was not charmed by the ominous coughing from downstairs that work me at 6:45am on a Sunday (even through my earplugs). I was unpleasantly surprised but the water pressure alternating from trickle to pounding. And if you are hoping for a night of relaxing watching TV, the reception was fuzzy on the ancient CRT in the room.
Since the whole show was run by the one hostess, there was no one to report these issues to upon check out, so I am forced to report them here. I'll pony up the extra $100 next time and stay at a nicer place.
Wow , I am amazed at the review from Shannon B. I have staying at Pacific Grove Inn for years ... Wow all these things she found wrong.
There is someone on property at all times . In fact there is an Inn Keeper, whom lives on the property, and when we have arrived on our bed is her number and also on the front window is posted her number, and instructions on where she is and how to call her.... I always wonder what do we expect from an historical house built in 1904... that the windows not drafty.... and yes , maybe it could be up dated, but times are not easy now... and if it was up[dated her room would have been more than another 100.00 per night... I have never seen nightgowns and sock hanging when Iooking out my ocean view rooms. Look up lady , now down. the ocean is up.... Fire engines do not have sirens on after 10 pm..... I'm happy ...
For the extremely moderate price, this is a GREAT place. ($139/weekday night)
I was traveling alone, trying to put myself together, and I almost cried the first morning when I was woken up by the wonderful smell of coffee and breakfast. The breakfast was pretty amazing. Cereal, granola, fruit salad, yogurt, juice, tea, coffee, WAFFLE, QUICHE, and bread pudding. It's not one of those gourmet breakfast you get in NAPA B&Bs, but it's pretty damn good for the price you pay for the stay here. Warning, try to get the breakfast before 9, or the crowd will empty everything by 9:30.
Cookies, fruits, tea are there for you all day. Tea time is from 4-6, with simple cheese/crackers, salami, veggies/dip, pickled veggies, etc.
Movie collection is not bad. Lots of local info brochures.
The room is well maintained, the bathroom is quite spacious. Fireplace is nice, but there's no fridge in my room (#9 i think). Nothing fancy, the beddings are alright, but for the price, it's really great.
The location is not premium, but good enough for the deal. It's about 2 blocks from the main street where the restaurants are, 1 block from Fandango, couple blocks from Red House and Passionfish. It's about 4 blocks from the lover's point. There's no sea view in the room, but get your ass over the beach. It's about 5 minute drive to Cannery Row and Aquarium, 20 minutes from Carmel, maybe 25 minutes from Point Lobos.
I always loved Pacific Grove more than Carmel or Menterey. It's beautiful, and it's quiet. There's something that's low-key about it, and it keeps me here whenever I visit.
The inn keeper and the lady who serves breakfast are super nice and chill people. But this WOMAN, who was there on 8/1, should really feel ashamed of yourself when you yelled at the lady working there. Yes there was the breakfast crowd, and yes there was no seats available. But what can they do really? Why don't you get your fat ass back to your room with your food or just sit on the cute patio? Chill!!

The Pacific Grove Inn is a charming Victorian B&B within walking distance from downtown. The service was very accommodating of our late-night check-in after we drove down from the city.
They offer homemade breakfast as well as afternoon tea, and if you want to relax in the common areas they have tons of books, etc. to entertain you.
Parking is available in their private lot, which is a huge plus-- lots of B&Bs in the area charge $15-20/night to park! The location is excellent, and the house is charming and quaint, great for a quiet weekend getaway.
FYI- there are a few people who man the front desk, the younger girls tend to be more outgoing and accommodating. One of the older women is less socially adapted but was still nice. We didn't have any issues when we were there, but if you have questions it may be easier to approach the younger set.

My boyfriend took me to Pacific Grove for my birthday. I have to say this was a really good BnB choice. The pricing is very reasonable for a BNB. The location is walking distance to "dowtown" Pacific Grove and close to Cannery Row and the aquarium. The inn itself is cute. We atayed in the second house in the Captain's room. It had a small ocean view and a fireplace. The rooms were spacious and nice, nothing too fancy but clean and well maintained.
The breakfast was good, waffles and fruit and eggs. I enjoyed it, but also nothing fancy. The staff was really nice and accommodating. I would stay here again. It was a good value. A lot of area BNB's we looked at were over $200 per night with a two night minimum. We payed $133 for our room for only one night and the stay was perfect.

We have been staying at the Pacific Grove Inn on and off for the past 13 years. We just stayed there again this past Thanksgiving weekend. It's always an enjoyable experience because of it's quiet location away from the hurly burly of Monterey and Cannery Row.
Breakfast is well done with a nice variety of food in the buffet (baked eggs -- with and without meat , waffles, yogurt, fresh fruit) although if you like your coffee strong, you might want to pick some up on your walk around Pacific Grove. Hors d'oeuvres whet your appetitie before going to a nice dinner somewhere on Lighthouse Avenue. The first night, there were eggrolls, chips & salsa, coldcuts and crackers; the second night was about the same (without the eggrolls). The VHS movie collection is great for those movies that you forgot about and don't have at the bottom of your Netflix list. The prices are reasonable, and you don't feel like you're in a museum.
We have always had rooms in the main building. This past weekend, we stayed in a third floor room for the first time. It does get warm at the top, but having the windows open helps. I did notice that some of the furnishings are showing some wear but nothing glaringly bad. The bed was comfortable with a firm mattress. We felt rested and relaxed after our stay.

I stayed here with the boyf last weekend and I must say that we had a lovely time at the Pacific Grove Inn. Having never stayed at a B&B before, I didn't know quite what to expect but I was pleasantly surprised because the inn was very charming, welcoming, and relaxing and just perfect for a weekend getaway.
The location is also great because it is in walking distance of Lighthouse Ave. which has some great restaurants (like Passionfish!) and Lover's Point. I enjoyed the breakfast and the afternoon tea although it was nothing too fancy. The VCR collection and the fireplace in our room were also a nice touch if you wanted to spend a cozy night in watching some movies. The prices are not too bad so I would definitely recommend it if are you on a budget and want a B&B that isn't too pricey but still quaint, romantic and charming.
