Pacific Echo is shockingly good - I say shockingly because you'd have no idea from walking inside that you will actually get good, fresh and delicious food from all sides of the menu. No, it's certainly not the best sushi in Manhattan, but it is definitely a good option if you need to be in the Midtown West/Hell's Kitchen area. The place is often empty, which makes the waitstaff alternately shy and a little aggressive. It's okay that they try and upsell you on the alcohol, though, because there are some pretty good deals hidden on the drink list.
The sushi is quite fresh and there are some inventive rolls available with mango and other interesting additions. Their kitchen actually cooks up some pretty good hibachi options for those who are raw-averse. A good option in the neighborhood for moderately-priced but reliable food.
Went here for a birthday. Boy, do they know how to show you a good time. Two floors, good decor and food. I've never had raw scallops before and wasn't a big fan but they did a good job here (the "hot mama")..i tasted the chilean seabass and since i don't love all kinds of seafood, i felt this was pretty good!

Food was not good here. The place is also small. Sushi was ok, but I have had better habachi elsewhere. There is a bar but not very big. Not a good bar scene if that is what you are looking for. Wish I went to Sushi Samba instead...

Wow - Nice, suspiciously quiet room with wonderful innovative food. Try The Bomb - Sushi roll with tempura lobster, king crab and a cucumber wrapping. It truly is "the bomb". Also the Beef Three Ways and the Shrimp Tom Yum. Unreal molten chocolate cake for desert. Good drink menu too - try the Mango Martinis. Been there twice and looking forward to many more trips

This place was great. The staff was very friendly and attentive and the food was wonderful. I tried the Snow White roll, the White Mountain roll, and the Echo roll (each around $10-12) and the Malaysian lacy crepe, the summer rolls, and the dreamy kabuki (I think that's what it was called..) The only things that didn't impress me were the summer rolls and the crepe. At the end of the meal, the waitress brought us each small glasses of the mango martini to sample, which was pretty good if you like sweet drinks. The bill was pretty high at the end, but it was worth it.
I was skeptical when I walked into the mostly empty restaurant at 8pm on a Friday night, but that gave way quickly when the food arrived. I had the tempura udon, and a few sushi rolls (more than enough for a sensible person) and was very satisfied. The prices are consistent with other Japanese restaurants I've been to in the area (~$5 for a normal roll, $12 for the tempura udon). I was with a large group (about 10 of us) and they didn't have trouble seating and serving the group (everyone else seemed happy with their food as well). I'll be sure to go back if I'm in the area, looking for Japanese food, and not in the mood to spend the next few weeks paying for a meal at Nobu 57.

Its decent sushi, a slight pricey for just getting lunch, but, at least its there to give some variety. I haven't been to Fuji on the same block, but I hear its better. Its a nice looking place, a little dimmer, more serene, kind of a little getaway from the hustle and bustle of the area but without being formal.
Quiet place, friendly staff, and great food. I had the Bomb which apparently another reviewer (below) had. I have to agree with him...it is the "bomb." I'm not a sushi expert or anything but it was the first time I saw a sushi roll wrapped in cucumber. I also had the Shrimp Tom Yung which was...just perfect. For a drink , I had a mango martini which was refreshing.
If you're into restaurants that have a hustle and bustle atmosphere, this is not the place for you.
I'm going halfway on this. I'm spilling the beans by giving it 5 stars, but my selfish side is making me not tell you why.
I was in New York on business and some coworkers and I were trying to find a restaurant. After walking up 9th Avenue forever, no one taking the lead, we made a few turns and ended up on 56th, and when I saw this place I decided I was going to be the decisive one.
Three of us got hibachi dinners, which are a great deal, with several courses, and one got the mango chicken, which I tried, and was superb.
We ordered a small jar of sake and I got a Sapporo and a small glass. So I'm sitting there doing sake bombs between courses, and near the end of the meal the manager comes out with a glass wanting to do them with me! He ended up buying us another jar and getting me an extra beer when we "tied" in downing them. He also brought out shot-sized samplers of the martinis for us all to try.
I definitely recommend this place. I haven't had that much fun at a restaurant in a long time!
