Location location location.
I'm not sure if this restaurant would do so well at any other location, but because of its great location in the middle of Yountville, it does do pretty well.
The food is not great, nor very creative, but its decent and if you don't order the specials (way overpriced) you can get out of there full and with a relatively small dent in your pocket for Yountville.
Breakfast is the best meal to eat here.
I've eaten here a few times, less because I've wanted to eat here than because it's seemed like the only option.
Breakfast in Yountville is tricky on the weekends. Few of the places you'd like to eat (eg, Bouchon, Ad Hoc or Brix) are open before 10. Pacific Blues opens early, however.
DON'T make the mistake of thinking you should eat there. The service is weak at best, offensive at worst, and the food is basically hospital cafeteria quality. Stop in at the Bouchon bakery and get a pastry if you must do an early breakfast, otherwise wait till 10 and go someplace awesome.
There's no excuse for going to Pac Blues for any other meal. There are so many incredible places nearby, don't waste your time here.
So Yountville is the eating capital of the world, didja know? So, we ate!
It was good, but I would have ordered the French Dip next time.
I split the sausage mixed grill with my bestie and really would never have ordered it were it not for her suggestion. I think the Brat was too sweet, but probably the nature of the breed, so to speak. Polish was definitely the best, and chicken/apple was better than most. I felt neglected of a bread product, however. Sauerkraut may have been made on site - very crunchy and immediately deposited on someone else's plate due to my dislike of cabbage. The fries are good. There was plenty of food for the two of us. Beaver Brand mustard on the table was a big hit. The beef brisket and the reuben sandwiches both amazing. Arnold Palmer was weak and never got refilled.
Place was especially busy outside and our waitress seemed pretty busy -- maybe a little too busy to notice our table much? Sat inside without a wait and there were 6 of us.
I'd eat here again as a local, but as a visitor I'm ready to try Hurley's or ad hoc before returning to PB. Cute shops across the promenade.
I ate hear a few months back with my parents while driving around wine country. We wanted something quick and this fit the bill. We were in and out in 30 minutes or so.
The food was just, hmm...so-so. The wait staff at the time seemed mostly college kids. It was fine, but I doubt I'd go back on purpose.
If you have a group and picky eaters I'm sure they can find something here. Otherwise try to hit Bouchon across the street. Yes, it's about twice as expensive, but so worth it.
This is my favorite breakfast and lunch spot. When I visit home to Napa, I always make it a point to make a stop at the "Blues". It is clearly a locals hangout, and where the locals are, the food is good.
The waitstaff is always friendly and gives great advice. When I waivered between the vanilla french toast and a more traditional breakfast of eggs and regular toast, they told me they'd be happy to substitute my regular toast with a slice of the french toast. Boy was I happy about that. It was fabulous. My waitress also helped out with some ideas on how to spend my day in the Napa Valley. I definately will be returning, when I visit home for the Christmas holidays!!!!
Mediocre best describes the food and the service. Good enough if you're hungry enough, but not a place you'd plan to or should purposely go to. I only happened upon it because there wasn't anything else open for breakfast.
Service was really slow. Granted, they were busy, it took 30 minutes for our coffee cake to come out. We couldn't tell if it had just been baked or if it had just been nuked. It was steaming hot.
The food is basic and nothing special. Think diner menu.
This place is A-OK!
5 star location and patio
4 star ribs and service
3 star mashed potatoes and broccoli
2 star front of house friendliness
1 star fried chicken - ick
I would eat those ribs again and again!
In order: (1) In-and-out (2) McDonalds (3) Burger King (4) Jack/Box (5) The Hot Dog Guy outside Home Depot (6) This.
I left hungry and angry! I was in a bit of a hurry when I got there and told the waitress this when I got there. We placed our drink and food order at the same time, even, to expedite our lunch. The food came out wrong, and the waitress tried to blame it on ME even when my dining partner confirmed that I had ordered otherwise. They remade my (mediocre) sandwich, though I only had time to eat a few bites by the time it finally arrived at the table. I asked the manager to comp the sandwich, but she refused, saying that I was eating the sandwich (I ate something like 4 bites), so she didn't see any obligation to do anything. Her attitude was clearly that of apathy based on the idea that I wasn't local and my repeat business wasn't important. I'm in the area at least every year... and I will never go to Pacific Blues again.
When we sat down to eat, I checked out the Yelp ratings and got worried. But the food was great, the prices reasonable and the service just fine. I had the Blues Turkey Burger, which was yummy, and my boyfriend had the cheesesteak sandwich with chicken. Also yummy. And the bill was moderate. What's there not to like?
I was looking for a breakfast place after having eaten the same breakfast for about 7 days straight, and was pointed to the Pacific Blues Cafe which was right across the street. I didn't even know this place served breakfast. We walked in up the porch, past the obligatory brown lab that was happily sitting outside in front of the door. You walk in to a cozy room with a few tables. Since they were full, they asked if we would want to sit at a large community table in the middle, they asked the patrons there, and a minute later we were looking at the menu and wondering how we missed this place seeing as how we've walked by it over and over again the past week.
I had the breakfast burrito, another the Mountain Man, and another the Transfer Ticket. I also ordered the homemade coffee cake to share, and a mocha for a morning kick.
My roasted carnitas burrito was AWESOME. It was nice and fat, so much so that I could've rested my head on the pillow-like burrito. Which is exactly what I wanted to do after almost finishing the whole dang thing. My friends loved their meals, so much so that I didn't even barely get to see what they ordered. Each entree was around or under $10. The coffee cake wasn't what I expected, it was more like blueberry muffin, but it was still quite tasty. Service was awesome, food came out quickly and you felt like you were hanging out with the locals. Wish I had found it before my last morning there! They have plenty of patio seating too, but since it was only about 50 outside, I wasn't about to al fresco it.
There were two Napa cops in there eating and you know cops know good, local food.
The bf and I came here today after spending the afternoon at a nearby winery. Having a lil alcohol in me and having not eaten all morning and afternoon, I was famished. I got the pulled pork sandwich with fries and was definitely in love with it. The flavors of the pork, bbq and coleslaw merried so well! And the fries... hot, crispy on the outside and oh-so-soft on the inside. The bf got their salmon sandwich, which he said was good but found the bbq sauce on it to be an odd pairing with salmon. Overall, we enjoyed sitting out on the deck with the nice 75 degree weather.
The bathrooms which are located on the deck were nice, clean and well ventilated. Definitely a tasty place and would definitely return.
All-american diner that doesn't disappoint. Simple and tasty food, super reasonable prices, and fast and friendly service.
Well, we liked the food. Good tasting food, well priced with good service we will do that any day. We don't need Bouchon or French Laundry to make us feel good.
So we came here after hitting up the Robert Mondavi winery, and were pretty hungry. Don't quite remember the name of the salad I ordered, but it was the one with apples, walnuts, spinach, and a red wine vinaigrette. Delicious! The walnuts were yummy and roasted, and the apples were very crisp. However, there were weird shreds of ginger or horseradish or something that kind of made it gross occasionally. But yummy overall!
I could not WAIT to get back home and yelp this place!
This is a cafe in a little town that's basically built to cater to the poor tourists who are dropped off there. Other restaurants in the town are higher priced but after this experience, I think I'd rather pay more. I'll never go back here again and I urge you to avoid it as well.
Food -- 3/5 -- I got the BBQ brisket sandwich. It was tasty but small and not worth the money. It was about $3 overpriced.
Service -- 1/5 -- I'll break this part down into two parts: (a) the waitress and (b) the hostess. Although the waitress was fabulous, I gave service a 1 because the hostess was SO horrible! I've never been treated so badly and the hostess's horrible attitude ruined the experience for me so badly that the waitress's efforts couldn't redeem their rating. So here goes:
(a) Waitress (Daria or Dalia?) -- 5/5 -- she was great. She was nice and provided us great service.
(b) Hostess (white brunette female with large tattoo on upper left arm and small tattoo on right arm) -- -500/5 -- The hostess is usually the first point of contact a customer has with a restaurant. This girl has no business being the face of the this business. She was horrible from the start and it never got any better. I was waiting at another restaurant around the corner while my girlfriend tried to see how long the wait to this place was. She put us on the list and came back to get me. However, she didn't get the wait time because the hostess apparently rushed her and wasn't interested in talking to her. Okay, fine. Well we went over immediately and waited. And waited. And waited while people who'd come after us were called. When I asked if she'd called us, she rudely spat out "I don't know" as she turned and walked away. Okaaay! So I went back and waited. Well, she came back and called us. She was just rude the entire way and it seemed like she was annoyed with everyone around her. She looked like she hated us all. She sat us down and brought back two glasses of water that she basically dropped in front of us. This girl was totally unwelcoming and a horrible representative of this restaurant. As she walked around the restaurant during our stay, I got the same vibe from her.
I almost left NO tip because our waitress had to split it with the hostess and I didn't want that horrible girl to have any of my money. But in the end I did tip because I didn't feel it was fair to punish our waitress. However, I would have left about 5% more if she didn't have to split it with the hostess.
Overall, this place was a major disappointment. I know tourists are a captive audience so some feel like they don't matter -- but you really owe us your job so either pretend you like us or quit!
If I'm ever in this town again, I'll opt for the higher priced places around this place. Or try the bakery/deli that's across the street.
I didn't care much for this place.
This is the place for people to come when you can't afford to go to Bouchon or even worse, French Laundry.
The prices were cheap for Yountville standards, but I still thought the food was overpriced. I should have just coughed up the difference and ate at Bouchon instead. I had the fatty sausage plate for 11.50, something I could have gotten elsewhere for half the price. Our mediocre lunch for 2 came out to be 33 bucks. I love to eat, but I was was disappointed to cough up that much for lunch, only to leave unsatisfied.
The service was more miss than hit. There were lots of unhappy patrons here, because everything took so long to come out. Some lady actually got up from her seat, went up to a waitress and bitched about why her food hadn't arrived yet. Our service was pretty crappy too.
For me, I'd rather eat OK priced good food back in SF, rather than overpriced food for Yountville 'poor' people here. Gross.
I have eaten here numerous times w/ friends at all times of the day and can tell you this is a great all-around joint to eat at if you want someplace casual and laid back in Yountville (i.e. where you go to eat when your hungover after gratuitous wine tasting).
Any of their breakfasts are awesome. They have lots of comfort food for the rest of the day (I enjoy the pulled-pork sandwich). It sometimes gets a little crowded and noisy inside but they have plenty of patio seating w/ heat lamps, which is where we actually prefer to sit if it is not raining.
Desserts... dear god, this place makes desserts. Go for the deep fried bananas, or the big-as-a-house cobbler. Whatever you do, and I don't care if you just blew a k-note a few blocks away at French Laundry, don't leave town without getting their rice-crispy treat dessert; I at one time was ordered by my wife to march down to Pac-Blues and get three orders of them for take-out.
Now, there is excellent service (i.e. French Laundry), and there is friendly service. This place is definitely friendly service... show up in your pajamas, they don't care and they always pack a smile.
This is my comfort spot in Yountville.
I always seem to get hungry walking around Yountville, but it seems to be surrounded with only the most elite, fancy, and EXPENSIVE of restaurants. Unfortunately I can't afford a $50.00 lunch and quite frankly, I don't really want to eat roasted duck with caviar for lunch.
Pacific Blues Cafe is the BEST restaurant in Yountville! It is affordable and has a big menu of non-fussy food served with lots of napa class. GREAT service. Delicious salads and sandwiches!
The best place to enjoy a casual, delicious, and affordable lunch in Yountville....maybe even all of Napa!
No corkage fee too!
:-)
We stumble upon this place purely by chance.
We were seated right away. Food portions were big and yummy. Price is about right. Service we rcvd were great. Very friendly staff.
Great burger and awesome lemonade!
I have been for breakfast and didn't find the time to Yelp! this place until now, since I recently stopped back in for a quick lunch between photoshoots, and wolfed down a cheeseburger with blue cheese and avocado- Wow!! The burger was perfectly seasoned, and expertly cooked, and not a terrible mess to eat (my 3 personal rules of burger engineering).
I felt like i was sitting in a magazine cover as I guzzled on my foot tall glass of lemonade, just wish I had more time to enjoy it out on the porch.
This is a sweet spot in the Napa Valley, Yountville is a "town" that everyone needs to add to their list of places to visit- and Eat, drink and STAY!
Unlike the rest of Yountville's eateries, this is a spot for the everyday average Joe who wouldn't know an endive if it bit him on the nose (it won't by the way). The atmosphere is casual. There are nice areas in the front and back of the restaurant for dining al fresco. We particularly like the grilled polenta, the beer battered calamari and the tri-colored nachos. Man, I'm getting hungry!

A couple of my good friends brought me here a few nights ago to cheer me up after a bad day. We were going to go to Don Giovanni, but they had gone there a few days ago and decided against it... Damn. I wish we had gone there instead.
This place wasn't bad, it was just extremely average. Okay garlic fries, okay calimari, and the BBQ brisket was pretty dry with not nearly enough sauce. The mashed potatoes that came with it tasted like they were made from a box with a few potato chunks thrown in there to mask it. I don't want to knock the place, because it wasn't terrible, it just wasn't great.
Not to mention our waitress spent the whole night oggling over my extremely attractive companion and pretty much ignored me. Not that I wanted her number or anything... but some attentive service might have been nice.
We eat here every time we come to Yountville, its nothing fancy, maybe like an upscale coffee shop. The food is always tasty and plentiful. We have only been there for breakfast and its always been very good. Some of our favorites include the breakfast burrito and the country? omelet, you know, the one that comes with hash browns and sour cream, yum! We have never had to wait for a table, the service is good and the prices are fair. We will definitely be coming back for more!
I like their burgers and the nice thing about this place is the fact that it caters more to the locals than to the tourists.
I enjoyed the friendly service and the homey atmosphere of this place.
Casual cozy environment with outdoor dining which is perfect for those warm Napa days.
But other than that, nothing stands out.
We only went here because Bouchon was an hour and a half wait.
Everything was mediocre but in huge portion sizes. Our table tried the clam chowder (humongous bowl), Philly cheese steak (best thing they had), a salad, and the veggie sandwich, along with the banana split (another huge item).
Eh. It was okay. Decent flavor but nothing I can even remember.
If we hadn't had good company and been outside in the lovely Napa weather, this probably would have sucked.
2 stars for the company I was with and the outdoor weather.
This is a normal, non-gourmet place to eat when you're not in the mood nor have the "ka-ching" in your wallet for the expensive Yountville restaurants.
Think family owned American Diner with a better wine list.
Bambie & me had a good lunch with 2 glasses of wine. Minestrone soup was mild, fresh, flavorful. $5 for a BIG bowl. We shared an crispy Iceberg lettuce wedge with a very good home made bleu cheese dressing. We finished up with a trio of grilled vegetables, polenta, & nachos (Yes a weird but fun combination).
With generous tip for the friendly & efficient waitress I spent $45. It was Money well spent.
i have to review based on a 2-star and a 4-star experience.
unfortunately, the 2-star came recently.
the first time i came was new years eve, and it was pretty good. nice day. good weather. service was nothing to complain about. and they have good jalapeno jam (for the bf. not me). plus, it was our first time and we had no expectations. apparantly that's the attitude you need to go in to this place with.
the not-so good experience came last weekend when we went to the villagio for a spa day (you can read my review on THAT one). this pretty much sums up our lunch hour:
-no hostess service, yet there is a hostess...
-long wait before anyone acknowledges you, let alone gets you a drink
-the great view of watching the un-prebussed plates get attacked by birds at the table next to us
-the unattended children playing in the dirty bird (poop) pond. yum.
overall, so-so. but i won't be going back. try hurley's across the street.
We had about an hour and a half before our reservations at Bouchon and there wasn't really anything we could go or that was even open around so we came here to have some drinks and maybe a snack without ruining our appetites. We ate outside because it was incredibly stuffy inside. It is a normal cafe with burgers, salads, fish and chips, chicken strips... things like that... we just ordered chili cheese fries and onion rings... they were actually pretty good. Our server was a little ditzy and she kept forgetting to bring us things but everything else was okay.
The only reason to eat here is if you are already in Yountville and short on cash (by Yountville standards, not normal life standards). Fortunately, I was here with family after a college graduation. It was great to talk with family and enjoy a meal together. The meal itself, however, was nothing special. I had the vegetarian sandwich. Vegetables were good, but the bread was too soft (fell apart). Needs a firmer roll. Garlic fries were the one surprise. My cousin ordered garlic fries and it came with actual slices of garlic on well cooked fries. Nice touch. Otherwise you could get a $10 burger elsewhere.
we had dinner here on the first night w/ my hubby's sales team and spouses/sig others and quite honestly, i wasn't impressed. it's a small, casual setting which i was hoping would amount to a big, hearty meal. the CALAMARI was okay, nothing great. i asked the waitress if i should get the BURGER (was craving it the past few days) or the BBQ BEEF BRISKET. she said burger as if it was no contest. so i built my own burger w/ cheese, sauteed onions and sauteed mushrooms w/ side of homemade jalapeno jam. does that sound good or what?! unfortunately, it was dry and thought the cheesecake factory burgers tasted better. my hubby's TORTILLA SOUP and COBB SALAD were pretty decent.
since my meal was okay i was counting on the dessert to satisfy me. again, i asked the waitress if i should go w/ the RICE KRISPIES TREATS w/ caramel and hot fudge dipping sauce (i know it doesn't sound interesting but it's supposedly something special) or the COAL CAKE. i went w/ the rice krispy treats and okay...i could have made better one's at home w/ real fudge sauce, not the thin hershey's chocolate sauce. quite the disappointment even though i downed like 4 of them and my hubby's boss was pretty impressed (i don't like to waste food =P)!!
*NOTE TO SELF: always go w/ your instinct when ordering!
As a true tourist review, this was a fun spot to find. It is is Yountville, just a tad up the road from Napa in the touristy mix of Yountville. Plenty of outdoor and indoor seating. I had the special, a flat-iron steak with onions and blue cheese. Let me say that I never really order that sort of burger, but it sure was yummy. Most of the reviews of Napa are quite harsh for restaurants, but as a tourist you won't be let down. We lived in Chicago for 3 years where all you do is eat and we admit the food here is great for a lunch grab. But don't go expecting all the french cuisine that the area boasts (Save that for a fancy dinner, but if you remove the stick from your bum for lunch you won't be let down) . Straight forward and definitely above average.
Great service and a yummy make the first day of our honeymoon a happy time :)
Went here yesterday for lunch with some family after wine tasting at Joseph Phelps. This was a very big disappointment, the menu is all over the place and the price of the items crazy!!!!. A BLT for 8.95? a hot dog for the kids $7.50??????? My wife had the cheese burger which was greasier than a plumber's ass in the middle of July. The fries where way greasy and over done. When you think about it it should not be that hard to make a good burger and fries. My BLT was ok but not worth the price. I think the best thing we ordered was the hot dog for the little one. The service is so so. I would not recommend this place to anyone who enjoys good food. Sorry but it was lacking!!!
Not sure how or why I ended up in Yountsville or the Pacific Blues Cafe for that matter. Pretty standard bar food. Carnitas were actually very decent.
We had breakfast here because we wanted to forget about our disappointing B&B as quickly as possible. Their double espressos were quite large and very good. They had a nice selection of breakfast items to choose from and everything was well prepared and quite tastey. The wheat toast was a nice thick slice of fresh baked bread and the hash browns were not to greasy and not too dry. The portion size was bigger than we needed after a huge meal the night before but it was very affordable and the atmosphere was homey (which was nice on a rainy morning). This was a great breakfast and we forgot our poor choice in lodging and reminisced about our fabulous dining experience the night before.
a nice place for a snack and a beer.
pros: outdoor seating, great nachos, waitresses
eh: nice town
cons: limited beer list, okay meat
