Eugene, OR
Does PF Chang's compare with the finer Chinese restaurants I've visited in larger cities? No, of course not. However, I'm going to review this restaurant relative to other Chinese restaurants in town, and the reality is, every single one I've been to (5 or more so far) was absolutely disgusting. Ambiguous low quality meats, pork chow meins with literally only a teaspoon of pork in it, orange chicken that seems to contain nothing but batter and not-fit-for-human-consumption chicken fat, crab wontons that are still frozen inside, and so on. In comparison, PF Chang's is pretty darn good.
Pros:
- Love the creamy, spicy fried shrimp (appetizer or the melon/walnut kind)
- Orange chicken has some spice to it (unlike most places in Eugene where it's just a chickenfat-donut)
- Lettuce wraps are lovely and I've gotten a free one on multiple occasions (just complimentary on a quiet day, or the result of an accidental wrong order even though they've never missed anything in our order).
- Clean cuts of meat, no ambiguity or large fat/bone pieces.
- Brown rice, need I say more?
- Nice presentation
- Good cocktails
- Lot of provisions and special menus as well for people with dietary restrictions.
- Friendly, fast service (at some point there was also a waiter working in the bar who was smoking hot. Dude should be a model. W-O-W)
- They mix up your dipping sauce according to your wishes
- Only had dessert twice but man were they ENORMOUS
Cons:
- Nothing in particular! Could it be more authentic or cheaper? Sure. However, there really is nothing seriously wrong with PF Chang's in my eyes to be honest. I'm just glad I have a Chinese place in town where I can identify my food and don't have to worry I'll be up vomiting all night from poor hygiene, ambiguous food bits and undercooked wontons. -

I use to go to PF Changs in Santa Monica a few years back. It was a fresh and healthy (yet still tasty) alternative to what you normally get with Chinese food. Boy how things changed at the one in Eugene.
When it first opened it was reasonably good. We always got the lettuce cups which are like tacos but with big hunks of iceburg lettuce for the shell with some delicious filling of your choice inside. The moo shoo vegetables was also good when they didn't forget the pancakes which they always did when we got takeout.
Everything at the Eugene location is loaded down with sauce to cover up the inferior ingredients they use. They even switched to the rubber chikan with the fake grill marks on it. I never saw that in the one in LA.
The decor is also really tacky. The whole place just smells of a corporate "concept" restaurant where the formulaic food is designed to transfer your money into their pockets as cheaply as possible. Well done!
Go to the website for the show South Park and look up the PF Chang's episode. That is all you really need to know.
It is also expensive and crowded. Go figure! -

I've only had some drinks and the lettuce wraps, but for a chain, the drinks were creative and tasty. The lettuce wraps...I just love. Prices were good for what I got...not sure if I would go back though because the music was turned up way too loud

Go at happy hour for more reasonable prices. The lettuce wraps are GREAT and you can order gluten free sauces.

Y'all need to know what to order. I've worked at the P.F. Chang's both here and in Walnut Creek as a hostess, and there ARE scrumptious dishes. You just have to avoid the greasy, sodium-infused ones--which, unfortunately, is the majority of the menu.
The P.F. Chang's veggie lettuce wraps, which are small 5-spice tofu cubes placed in lettuce wraps with rice and covered in special sauce, are out of this world. GET THEM. (and not the chicken ones, I've heard the veggie ones are superior) They're also one of the less nutritionally offensive items on the menu so you don't get that bloated too-much-Chinese-food feeling. I don't eat meat so I can't personally vouch for any of the meat dishes on the menu but have heard horror stories. I also recommend the coconut curry veggies (ordered "slightly spicy") and the Shanghai cucumbers.
As for the service and atmosphere...well, it really depends on who you get and where you sit. If you want a booth, PLEASE ask as soon as you arrive (instead of when the hostess seats you) or request one when you make a reservation. The restaurant gets pretty noisy, so a booth is a good idea if you want to actually hear your company. If you're on a crappy date, however, the middle of the restaurant is perfect for drowning out that irksome, unwanted small talk. -

Sweet Home, OR
Disappointed. We were initially seated in the most drafty coldest place on earth. The temperature finally got to 70, and the AC was on so high, you would think global warming was back. So we moved to another table. For this egregious error, we were not provided the standard sauces the accompany all meals at the Chang. Then we were all but forgotten as our server was trying to get his grove on with some frequent flier bar flies who were having a hard time walking in a straight line. This would have been fine had I known this was a bar and not a restaurant with my wife and two teenagers.
The reason this is so low is because of the service and atmosphere and not because of the food. The food was fantastic! -

Everything I've eaten there is good. I do like their happy hour, pretty busy place, fun scene. I'd probably give the food 3 stars, but I bumped it for service.
Everyone is really friendly, every time I've been there, NO exceptions... which I find kind of impressive for a huge chain. Yesterday the waiter asked how we liked our food and my husband said his was a little salty... not complaining, just commenting. Plus, he ate the whole thing... so clearly not TOO salty. They comped it. We were shocked and explained that it was just a comment... he wouldn't let us pay for it. He even offered a replacement dish to go.
It's also a good place to go for groups, or people with varied diets. They do veggie, vegan (depending on your stance on sugar) and are super cautious of allergies and cross contamination. -

This place is shit. Not THE SHIT, just shit.
And it's expensive and pretentious to boot. They should have built this out in the Stepford hell that is known as Crescent Village. It's right up their alley.... "pre-fab"ulous!! I have no problem paying a lot for a meal if it's good. This is far from it. Actually, I would love it if they would trade locations with Izumi so I wouldn't have to subject myself to CV ever again.
Sorry... I'll get off my soapbox now.
Worst thing about it in reality isn't the fact that it's a chain, it's the food which is the most important and the reason they got one star. No amount of pretty and posh can save them. I am completely convinced that all their food comes in plastic bags that say, "Boil and Serve", guaranteeing that it's cooked at least three times.
Go down the street to the mall and eat at Panda Express. It's faster, way cheaper and you can entertain yourself with all the cookie cutter style you can stand. Chang's may have manufactured ambiance, but at least at Panda you know what you're in for and you wont break the bank doing it.
Overcooked, overpriced, overrated. -

Ugh! I should have listen to the yelp reviews i read, but no i HAD to try PF Changs!
PF Changs is basically a large room with tables and chairs everywhere. The room really has no structure or privacy. Everything is pretty much crammed together and people kept bumping the back of my chair. The food was mediocre- I ordered their version of General Tso chicken and my boyfriend got the Sweet and Sour Chicken. Both tasted pretty much the same. Our waitress was friendly enough and served our food to us within a timely matter.
One thing i have to say is i've tried the PF Chang's at home meals that you buy at the store in the freezer section and liked it better then the food i bought from the actual restaurant. Kinda sad.. -

Bend, OR
What happened? Although we haven't been inside a PF Chang's for a couple of years, as "formula food" chain restaurants go, we liked PF Chang's. Not necessarily a destination restaurant, but one that if faced with hunger or eating at PFC in an unfamiliar city, we felt good about a PFC choice. So when we were in Eugene, without access to a phone or laptop for a quick peek at Yelp, and this PF Chang's was near our location after what had been a long morning into mid afternoon, we popped in. We figured at least we knew what we were going to get - decent food, mid range price, pleasant atmosphere, friendly service. But nope. Not what we got. Is our memory of what PF Chang's offered failing or does this PF Chang's fall short?
The service was friendly and the ambiance is typical PF Chang's...faux Chinese murals on the walls, a few upholstered booths but mostly wooden chairs and tables squeezed cheek to jowl for seating (or maybe cheek to cheek), voluminous ceilings with dramatic lights and Asian color palate. No surprises there. And while the prices on the menu were a tad higher than we recalled, it has been at least a couple of years since we were in a PFC so no worries about that either. (They need to pay for all the fancy decor somehow.) As value reference point, our bill for an entree, a noodle dish and one cocktail was $32.00.
So far AOK...even if it did take WAY too long for the food to get from kitchen to table given there were only 29 diners (I counted 'em) and three or four wait staff.
But the food was simply bad...a bland imitation of Chinese flavors that not only tasted but looked at presentation as if the cook in charge was a line cook on break from High School culinary class. Sorry...it really was that disappointing.
The food sinks the ship to a 2 star "meh" review. And while it didn't taste overly salted to either of us, it is Chinese food after all, we can tell the salt level was significant by the amount of water we've been wanting to drink all evening. But maybe that is "on us" for what we ordered - mu shu pork and chow fun noodles.
The Asian pear mojito was a winner though. Can recommend that.
But had I read the Yelp reviews before we went today, we would have known better.
If you choose to ignore all your wise Yelp colleagues who have posted mediocre and worse reviews here and go anyway, you may find it helpful to know this is located the far end of the parking lot associated with the mall (Pottery Barn side). Also, you may enjoy knowing they have a small outdoor patio for dining at PFC...if you must. -

Went tonight before 6:00PM for the 1/2 price appetizers at the bar. This is a screaming deal!!! Ribs ($4.25) Steamed Pork Pot Stickers ($2.75), fun to order 4-5 apps and share the friends. They charge for the alcohol but what the heck.

After reading all the negative reviews, I was rather reluctant to go to PF Chang's. But since this restaurant was literally across from my hotel, it was simply too convenient of a distance to not go there!
My friend and I were in town for one night on the way to Seattle. I am from the Bay Area (the Chinese capital of the U.S.), which means I know a thing or two about Chinese food, especially since I eat Chinese food about once a week or sometimes more.
We sat at a table in the bar area and the bartender came and served us. We told him about the negative reviews on Yelp and asked him for his input about what we ordered. He offered some very helpful tips and gave us great service. We ordered three side dishes as appetizers to start: Green Beans, Asparagus and Cucumbers. They were all fabulous and very tasty. For entrees, we ordered Chicken and Broccoli (fantastic dish) and Spicy Calamari and Scallops. Both dishes were very delicious.
Several reviews here mention the food at PF Chang's was too salty. That was not our experience. We also thought that prices were very reasonable and I'd totally disagree with those who said this place was overpriced. We very much enjoyed our meal here and would definitely go back. -

It really *is* the Chinese food equivalent of the Olive Garden, yet surprisingly they are not a Darden Restaurants, Inc. spin off.
I ordered the Dan Dan noodles, a simple dish which should be heavy on the Sichuan peppers. Wow. Not even close. Not even the tiniest bit spicy and their gimmicky soy sauce, bland chili oil, and hot mustard tray could not kick it up to make the dish edible. I had to send it back. I never do that but it was really just so bad...
To their credit, they offered me apologies and a $10 gift card. Maybe I'll go again for one of their desserts (they looked pretty good) but I'll steer clear of anything else. It's too bad really, there isn't a single decent Chinese restaurant in all of Eugene.
Parent's Note: I hated it but my kid liked it. They had special kids menus with pictures and games (though they were out of crayons) and the prices for a kid's meal ranged from $2.95 for fried rice without veggies to $4.95 for fried chicken chunks and white rice. Not nutritious but crowd pleasers to be sure. -
Review from Reney O.
If you don't already know, this chain serves Americanized Chinese food, not authentic Chinese food. So knowing that, don't expect the greatness that is authentic Chinese: greasy, flavorful, and filling. Rather, typical Americanized Chinese food is bland, too simple, and drier, hence all that is PF Changs.
I mean two words come to mind when I think of their food menu overall: dry and salty. Why do I still go? Not gonna lie, their happy hour menu is the best part. The food items on the happy hour menu (Crab rangoon, lettuce wraps, etc) are among the tastier items that you'll ever find there. AND it's tasty food for cheap. Granted, they're just appetizers, but they're good enough to give me a craving for them now and then. A lot of the college crowd just goes for the cheap food, which is worth it I think. Oh and their drinks and desserts are delish. Well, the drinks aren't very potent, they're very girly (ie SWEET and low on alchi) hence the yummy-factor.
Anyhow, that's the food/drink part. Atmosphere-wise PF rocks the mood-lighting which you'd think would be more romantical, but it's a large restaurant that's usually serving out-of-towners who are staying at the nearby hotels. So it's usually loud and very busy. Their wait-staff gives excellent service, I might add. They help make this restaurant easier to return to.
Just advising that don't expect PFs to be Chinese food, it's not. It's Americanized Chinese food, there's a BIG difference. For a good time have a drink, appetizer, and dessert at their happy hour =] Otherwise, don't bother. -

[+] I love the atmosphere, the people and the lighting of this place. I really like how the place sets the mood for the evening. The seats were comfy. The plating of food and the plates they used were very nice. It's a very nice upscale looking place. I gave it 2 stars, mainly due to the atmosphere.
[-] As for the food wise, not the place to be if you want real Asian food. I am sorry, but this place is too Americanized. What the heck is going on? A few pot stickers and you charge a butt-load for that? Also, if you'd like extra rice to go with your entree, it would cost extra $1.50 or so for little bowl of rice? Seriously? DEFINITELY not the place to go to order Asian/Chinese food. I went there once, not going there again. Oh yeah, the chefs aren't even Chinese. How the heck would they know how good Chinese food taste like?
If you go there, go there for the atmosphere, other than that look for another place to eat. I was very disappointed. -

THE SHORT -- TERRIBLE, OVERPRICED. ATMOSPHERE UNCOMFORTABLE.
Dining Room - bunch of tables crammed into cavernous cafeteria - no privacy and ridiculously loud and impersonal.
FOOD:
Soups - looked and tasted like Fancy Feast cat food...(the egg drop and hot and sour soups)
Crab Wontons - Exactly what you'd expect. The best food we ate there but how bad can fried food dipped in sweet and sour be?
Ginger Chicken with Broccoli - Boiled to imperfection with a chicken stock/teriyaki sauce poured over it. Flavorless and sad.
Cantonese Shrimp - Again, boiled, with some flavorless goo poured over the top.
Margarita - They actually got it right! Delicious but not worth $9.
Desert - Served in a shot glass...? Why? To make it seems like the prix pixe menu is a deal, when it is not.
Service - She was prompt and friendly, sorry she has to work for such a sorry establishment.
If you want expensive meals that taste like they were taken out of the frozen food section and microwaved to death, this place is for you! -

Coos Bay, OR
Two times I have eaten here and both times they were out of oolong tea. What gives with that? Service has not been the best either as requests made take forever to be taken care of and just getting served can be an adventure. For a Chinese restaurant the prices are high. When this place is filled up it is noisy. Having over 200 people seated will do that...LOL!
That's the bad news. If that's enough to put you off from going here, this is what you will miss:
1-Quality meats and foods nicely seasoned.
2-Friendly (if inattentive at times) staff
My favorite dish from the two visits is the salt and pepper prawns. They're expensive at around $15 but you get a lot of prawns and as for the taste, it's a dish that is unique and quite tasty. You won't find it anywhere else as far as I can tell.
One more caveat: Don't go during the lunch hour. The crowd is HUGE. Wait until a bit after 1 PM as the place clears out and it will continue to clear out even more. You will get a table without waiting and have a quieter dining experience.
With so many things not right combining with some good food, I split the rating up and decided to give 3 stars instead of 2 when 2 1/2 would have been just right, with the extra half star going in favor of the food. Every other Oriental place in Eugene-Springfield is lower cost than PF Changs but at least you do get the treat of the best there is, so for special occasions, go there but do so when the rush isn't on...
...and don't expect to get oolong tea...LOL! -

When you are looking for a resteraunt that is consistent and a chain that doesn't feel like it, check this place out..
There is always a wait, no matter what time of the day you are there. I recommend calling ahead, or be prepared to have a tasty drink in the bar area.
I have major seafood allergies and they actually print out a menu to accommodate your allergies, whether they be seafood, gluten or corn. Very helpful so you don't have to keep asking the server what contains fish sauce, etc.
The prices are no more than eating at lucky noodle or a place of that caliber. My fave item on the menu is the lettuce wraps that are listed under appetizers.
Just a hint, you can enjoy the lettuce appetizer then go over to trader joe's and get the filling in the frozen section to make at home! -

I was needing a garden hose for all of the salt with this meal. My parents really wanted to come here, and having never been, I thought it would be cool to see what was on the inside of a restaurant with an enormous horse statue outside. The decor is trendy, and the acoustics weren't too bad. We got a comfy booth for three.
Lowdown: A fancy looking cocktail menu, and happy looking people in the bar. A decent beer selection, and a good match for the style of food. Great lettuce wraps, and delicious pork potstickers. The Chinese food is not really very Chinese-like (surprise!), and to top it off, one of the waitresses was, well...just very taken with herself.
I probably wouldn't make the lettuce wraps at home, but I -- or anyone else -- can make equally delicious stir fries with about 1/4 of the sodium. -

We met here due to the fact it was across from our hotel and it was pouring rain (D oh! Oregon!)
It was crowded for a Tuesday but we were seated quickly.
The place was very clean and comfortable and our server was super friendly and visited our table (too) frequently enough to make sure we had what we needed.
The food was good but like so many other chains, consistent.
I'm sure we could have found better had we went and looked. -

I came. I saw. I left. I'm never coming back. Ever.
In terms of ambiance, PF Changs' got it... the restaurant was very nice and clean and our server was super friendly and visited our table frequently enough to make sure we had what we needed.
Since we were there during happy hour, we ordered the appetizer calamari. At half-price, it should be a deal right??? Wrong. The squid way too salty and chewy, and to make it worse, it was served on top of those dry noodles that taste and look like styrofoam...
Being hungry, we ordered two entrees on top of the appetizer, the street noodles and the candied walnut shrimp and were disappointed by both. The flavors of the street noodles didn't go together too well... it just didn't have that pleasant taste to it that made you feel like seconds. && I have to mention that the noodles itself was too hard.
The shrimp with candied walnuts was sub-par but the only "ok" thing that we ordered... but maybe because I ate it with rice and I really liked the brown rice there (hah!) There was plenty of shrimp in this dish, but it didn't seem to be too fresh... and the candied walnuts weren't as "candied" as they should be... and oh! before I forget... since when did honeydew belong in this dish?
Nevertheless, I should have paid attention to the the warning signs about their food... PF Changs does happen to be an Americanized Chinese restaurant after all. I know I should have known better, but I had to try it just to say that I've been here... -

Typical chain food. The lettuce rolls are good, however. The place is LOUD, so loud that it is difficult to hear the person next to you talk. Did we have to wait for a table? You betcha- About 30 minutes. Was it worth it at the end? No. Try another local Chinese place for better results and a little more $$ back in your wallet.

I've eaten here a few times with friends and never been as impressed as they are, but what the hey, I know I can be a bit of a snob.
The appetizers and the fancy drinks are the best things going here. The crab won tons and the dumplings (with any of their fillings) are excellent. While more interesting and flavorful than most Chinese food you'll get elsewhere in town, the half dozen entrees that I've sampled weren't anything that special.
I love the dimly-lit, swank decor, but be aware that the dining room can get quite loud if you go at peak times. The bar is quieter, if you don't mind the occasional sound of a blender. -

So glad PF Changs came to Eugene! They even gave me a discount membership card in the mail which is pretty personal and makes me want to come back. The lettuce wraps, alcholic drinks, and service is very exceptional. I don't mind paying a higher price for better quality food & service here. I love the dark colors they use in the main space and how large the room is it feels like a big room full of loud family I love it.

This place is an Asian version of the Olive Garden. The food tastes fine but it relies heavily on fat and salt for flavor.
