We started our moving company in 1993, when our founder Avi Oz grew tired of the unethical and unscrupulous business practices in the moving industry and decided to blaze a new trail. In over 25 years of business, Oz Moving & Storage has grown from a single truck and a handful of employees to become one of New York City and Los Angeles's largest and most reputable moving and storage companies.Once we made our name in New York, we noticed our company was quickly becoming the most trusted in the city for moves to Los Angeles, and decided to open up an office in Southern California. Now in our second decade in L.A., Oz has truly become a bi-coastal company with dedicated offices and large fleets and manpower in both NYC and L.A.

OZ moved us from NYC to LA. In all aspects it was excellent, however, the LA team was beyond outstanding. Carlos organized the arrival from NY, to a short term storage, to selecting an exceptional delivery team. He understands "Customer Focused", caring, organized and available for any questions.
The amazing team of Israel, Oscar and Raul were the finest of any mover we have ever used. They worked together like a symphony and the delivery was under 2 hours. We had one small item broken and Israel showed it to us before we even noticed it and told us how to put in a claim.

Hired them for a cross country move from LA to Chicago. They picked up our stuff and everything was great but now they are holding it in a storage facility instead of delivering. Why it is not being driven to Chicago? I have no idea because when I call they are low key rude and give me absolutely no information on when I can expect the delivery. Someone said one date and then someone else told me another date in 3 weeks!? I will edit if the business owner responds or when I receive my delivery.

I recently hired Oz to manage my move from Brooklyn, NY, to Southern California, shelling out a substantial $10,000 plus tip for their services. To my dismay, they caused a staggering $3100 in damages to my property.
Oz's negligence resulted in the destruction of our daughter's brand-new bed frame and mattress, along with a 55" OLED TV that was previously in perfect condition. We had paid extra for Oz to handle the packing and preparation of these items, but their improper handling and packing methods led to the damage. I don't know how you can break a mattress, but somehow they managed.
What's even more infuriating is Oz's refusal to take responsibility for their actions. They dismissively claim that this is a "high-risk industry" and insist we should have purchased additional insurance coverage, shifting the blame onto us. This response is entirely unacceptable, given their incompetence. Hiring a moving company for packing should mean you don't need to spend extra on insurance - a competent company should ensure the safety of your items.
If you read other reviews you'll see the same complaints, and the same casual indifference from Oz.
I can only give them one star because I have to, and that's solely because our belongings eventually arrived. To be fair, I had used Oz before without issue. I'm not sure if the company changed owners or if something changed due to the pandemic, but buyer beware - Oz isn't worth the risk.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

This is a duplicate review, as your wife Jill already posted. Again, the insurance options are clearly laid out pre-move and on move day. Moving is a high risk industry, your furniture travelled over 3,000 miles by truck. You opted for the free basic coverage. We are sorry you were not satisfied with our settlement, which was not 100%, but significantly more than you were due.

Oz Moving & Storage destroyed $3100 worth of our possessions. Oz improperly packed our TV and the screen was bent and cracked upon delivery. They broke our toddler daughter's bed frame, and crushed the mattress -- all of which were essentially brand new. This was the sloppiest move I have ever seen. Boxes were crushed during transit, and they packed items improperly. I would never use Oz again and I'm in the process of reporting them to the Better Business Bureau. The company failed to do its basic job. If I could give them 0 stars I would.
What is most sad is that they won't reimburse us for the items because we only had basic insurance. However, this was not a dish or lamp breaking by accident, this was our daughter's bed and our TV completely destroyed by improper packing, which was their responsibility.
Added 9/5/23: in response to Nancy's comment, I believe it's important to note that the damages were caused by negligence and the failure of the company to do its basic job (moving possessions safely), not a result of a box falling or other accidents that might require insurance. They simply did not do their job.Helpful 1Thanks 1Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

I used Oz Movers for my move from Los Angeles to San Diego. During the delivery into my ground floor apartment one of the younger inexperienced movers was attempting to carry a large marble dining table top himself without any assistance. As he walked through the front door he dropped it on the floor resulting in a 1.5" by 1.5" chip on the top edge of the table. When I asked the foreman in charge of the move if the table just cracked he assured me it was wrapped and would be protected. After about 30 minutes, the foreman unwrapped the table and noticed the damage. He asked me if maybe the damage was already present when they picked up the table but I assured him it was not. When he found the pieces that had broken off wrapped in the moving blankets, he acknowledged that the drop had indeed damaged the table top.
While setting up my 65" television the following day, I noticed that the screen was covered in fingerprints and that 1/3 of the screen had been shattered as a result of the movers holding it by the glass front. During the unpacking process, I had noticed two of the movers carrying it around and leaning it up against the furniture.
The costs of the move was almost $5,000, the cost to replace the table top from Room & Board was a little over $1,600, and the flatscreen tv was recently purchased for $1,100. In total the move and damages amounted to $7,700.
When I contacted Oz Movers to let them know about the damage, they explained that they only cover $0.60 per pound regardless of whether the damage was caused by the negligence of their movers. I explained to the claims managers that the movers broke two of the largest and most expensive items and that $0.60 per pound would not only fall short of the cost to repair/replace the items, but that I had been charged more than that simply for moving the two broken items.
My claim was submitted on 7/11 and after a 2 phone calls and an email I was advised today 7/22 that I would be getting a check for $300. I cannot express how disappointed I am with Oz Movers for not taking reasonability for the carelessness and negligence of their movers. If you do decide to use them, I would recommend paying extra for premium insurance that covers replacement costs as it is expected that they will break your items.Helpful 4Thanks 1Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

Thank you for the feedback Jared. We are terribly sorry your TV and table were damaged in transit and you did not receive the level of service we strive to give our clients. It’s not expected that we will break your items, it is never our intention. Moving is a high risk industry and we do advise you clearly in the confirmation email what coverage is included and what the options are. The $300 settlement is not all you claimed, however, it is about twice the amount you are entitled to per the contract. We are very sorry you sustained damage, and we do wish you good luck in you new home.

I would leave zero stars if I could. I had a foreman called Manuel and one other worker. They were extremely slow and took 6 hours to move me out of a one bedroom apartment and another 6 to move me into another one bedroom 20 minutes away. They broke 2 of my furniture items while rebuilding them, they charged me overtime and for 2 hours that they were on break. they were unprofessional and rude as well as unable to converse with me in English. They over charged an obscene amount over 2000. Worst experience moving I have ever had and I have moved 6 times and twice cross country New York to Los Angeles and back for far less money. Please do not waste your time with this company. Manual and Carlos are awful is terms of customer service and they had gall to ask for a tip after overcharging me and then proceeded to not even complete the job properly

DO NOT USE OZ
Crazy everyone! After I posted my experience, I received a call from Oz. They refused to email me after I requested the message in writing. I kid you not, she said, "We were prepared to give you more money because we cannot argue that mistakes happened but now that you have posted on Yelp, 'they' in California have no motivation to give you anything beyond .60 cents for every pound. Damage is already done." I repeated my previous concerns and what the movers said about it being their fault and she said, "they are movers, they will say anything".
What!? So, now the problem is the movers are bad at their jobs and cannot be trusted.
I asked for at least partial refund of what I paid. We hung up and she never reached out again. I received a check today for .60 cents for every pound. Folks - I received $328.20 for thousands of dollars of damage because I shared my experience on yelp. That is retaliation and it's unethical.
I suppose, more than feeling loss, I am disappointed in the lack of integrity and care. Moving is stressful enough - who needs to spend weeks trying to get money to rebuy the stuff that you worked hard to own in the first place? Yuck!
Yikes Oz! I am not cashing my check and urge Oz to make a better choice aligned with their owner story on Yelp which focuses on providing good and equitable service.
Left a couple of our photos to share the experience. Never have had this level of damage before.Helpful 4Thanks 1Love this 0Oh no 0Aug 3, 2022Previous reviewBefore hiring Oz, I recommend reading the most recent messages from yelp and the better bureau to pickup the themes. The responses both in person and in writing are inauthentic and legal which is experienced as defensive - a good summary of the overall experience.
My husband and I moved with Oz years ago in NYC and had a good experience so I did not read the current experiences and hired them. That was a mistake.
There was absolutely no explanation or discussion of the different insurance options. In fact, in the middle of the move when the mover asked if we had insurance with Oz, I stated "whatever you offer" and was automatically selected for what I learned later was basic insurance. What was shared was that options are sent via email with the other paperwork and if you miss it, it is the customers fault. It is one of the most culturally exclusive comments you can make - "didn't read it; don't get it". Being that Oz is not new to this line of business, the move to send options versus review the options with customers and make recommendations is the difference between approaching people legally by offering the bare minimum versus engaging in customer service. Taking care of the organization does not have to be at the expense of poor customer service.
The damage to our property was extensive. We have done moves out of country and cross country and things have happened but never to the level of 2 TV's broken that the movers packed, smashed furniture (wood cracked), crushed boxes, shattered dishes, and dismantled items. We were and completely shocked. The movers felt horrible and admitted that the damage was significant and that it was caused by the poor loading of the truck at the storage unit. One of the movers mentioned, "I wish I had been there to load the truck. This would not have happened if I had done it myself". I kid you not, the truck was so poorly loaded that at one point, we watched furniture and boxes fall out of the truck and onto the street. Stuff was just tumbling out - the mover tried to catch things as they were falling but could not catch it all. It was a surreal experience! It was the first time in a move that I cried - it looked like my stuff had been kicked all the way from LA to Oakland. We paid a lot for the move and damages extend beyond that amount. The movers recommended that I take pictures of the damages and file a claim immediately. One mover said, "they should take care of you".
Well, we are in the process of filing a claim and giving photos. The current ask is to send more photos and prove the value of the items damaged and here is the kicker - because we only have basic insurance, we are providing documentation to receive less than $500. Not even a fraction of what was damaged even though there was a shared understanding that the move was mishandled. This was not an accident, this was poor service - a failure to perform duties. I did not hire Oz to just move my stuff from one place to the next, I hired them to safely move my stuff. I hired them to use good judgement and their experience to do as little harm as possible in a 5 hour move. You can imagine the compliant/legal response - (1) sorry that happened to you (2) it's a tricky business and stuff happens sometimes (3) you only have basic insurance and we emailed options to you.
Yes, stuff happens but when it is due to negligence and bad execution of the job - a company has a moral and professional obligation to take responsibility that goes beyond the basic insurance that is given as a default when someone fails to read closely during a move.
Another response that has started to pop up from Oz is - "you selected to pack many of your items yourself and use Home Depot boxes". 85% of the damaged items were packed by the Oz movers AND it does not explain why furniture was stacked on boxes marked fragile in the truck. That is not a Home Depot box issue - it is an avoidant statement that lacks integrity.
At that point, it would not make sense for Oz to provide a yelp statement of apology or "I'm sorry you were displeased with our service". What would be refreshing is to lean into integrity - (1) reject the service that I received as the Oz gold standard. It has been odd to have folks admit that there was an error in service while simultaneously avoiding accountability over the outcome and (2) issue a refund for the move. I should not have to pay for a mishandled move on top of replacing my stuff. Currently, the expectation is that we do both - pay for a poor move and 95% of the damages resulting in a loss just shy of $14,000. Losing our stuff has been painful but how Oz has treated us and our stuff that resulted in the significant loss has been the greatest punch in the gut.
I am committed to updating yelp, among other consumer sites, on how Oz chooses to move forward with us. - Steven D.Yaphank, NY12264Nov 26, 2022

Let me start off by saying, Ingrid, Israel, and the delivery guys are wonderful. They're friendly and very helpful. The owners and the management however suck. I was with them for 5 years and have never felt so cheated in my life!
I received my sofa with mouse droppings under the cushions, my mattress was exposed with the shrink wrap ripped in many spots (mind you, I was told it was shrink wrapped and kept in a "mattress box") and on top of that one of my boxes had a moth family happily chewing away at my clothes! They also had the audacity to offer to dump those items for an extra 300-something dollars!!
I eventually got them to take them for no additional charge, but are you kidding me?! Such a nightmare experience. This is a poorly run business and I would never recommend them to anyone. Save your money and go somewhere else.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Brad J.Lynwood, CA01Nov 5, 2022
