5 reviews for Oysterella's
I had lunch at Oysterella's this week. I give it 5 stars.
Ordered the grilled Ponga fish with double veggies. The price including ice tea was $8.95. In my travels around Mobile, Gulf Shores and the Fairhope area in the last 3 weeks, I say you can't beat this price with the delicious fresh vegetables and large portion of fresh fish and drink. This is not a dive fried seafood joint, it is up there with Mr B's in New Orleans.
Try this restaurant again. It stands out !
(I also tried hazels in gulf shores) Almost 30.00 for 2 people with drinks. Food was breaded and salad was wilted iceberg.
Dinner on Mobile's causeway is usually pretty good. Oysterellas is no exception, although I would call the food only slightly better than average.
First up was a cocktail. I chose the Black Warrior, a delicious blend of flavored vodkas and fruit juices. We ordered the Gumbo as an appetizer. It was fantastic, very flavorful. For entrees, I had the Stuffed Flounder, my companions chose the Blackened Ponga Fish and the Blackened Yellowfin Tuna. Each of the entrees were served with wild rice and mixed seasonal vegatables. First of all, the rice was dry and lacking in flavor. However, the vegatables more than made up for that, they were delicious, particularly the squash. Of the three entrees, most of us agreed that the Stuffed Flounder was the best. It was very moist and the crabmeat stuffing was very flavorful. The Ponga Fish was also quite good. The blackened tuna got mixed reviews from our party. I thought it was dry and slightly less tasty than the other fish (everyone else liked it!) Finally, we finished the meal with the 5 Apple Bread Pudding, a bread pudding with 5 different types of apples and a warm whiskey sauce. I would almost be tempted to bump them up another star because it was so good, but isn't everything with warm whiskey sauce good?
The restaurant was nice and quiet (probably cause there were very few people there) with a terrific view of the bay. Although we sat inside, there was plenty of outdoor seating available. The service was outstanding. Overall, I really enjoyed this meal, but it wasn't any better than any of the other fantastic restaurants on the Mobile Causeway.
Ok Causeway food, some things are slightyl better than in other restaurants but still not worth the price. The accustics in the restaurant is terrible -- you can barely hear the person accross the table.
The very 1st time I went there, I got really ticked off with the waitress -- had to send my wine glass back 3!!!! times becuase it had someone's lipstick on it. Another thing that upset me was $10 for a glass of house wine --- c'mon! it's just house wine!
My second visit wasn't much better ---- ok food, ok wait staff, over rated and over priced.
I am not going back unless I am invited there for a function/ business lunch.
A fairly new player on the Causeway - relatively speaking. I had an opportunity to eat there a few weeks ago - and it was a big OK. Nothing special or spectacular - except the view - but then we have so many choices for restaurants with a view!! Now mind you - it wasn't bad - it just was just OK. The service wasn't great - so that takes it down a notch. And even though I know sometimes Southern restuarants serve WAY more than we really need to eat - we've come to expect it and I think Oysterella's portions were pretty skimpy by local standards - but certainly not less expensive. So - if the wait at the Original Oyster House (which is still my favorite) is too long - drive a little way down the road to Oysterella's. It is still good local seafood.
PS - The West Indies Salad was EXCELLENT!
Standard causeway seafood, in a VERY large restaurant. Expect to see all of your favorites - gumbo, fried crab claws, west indies salad. Ok, so those are all of my favorites!
