10 reviews for Overland One Salon
so I just arrived in California and was in desperate need of a haircut; my half-hearted attempt to make myself look presentable for job interviews I had coming up. I stopped in here one afternoon and Jennifer said she an appointment coming up, but that she could squeeze me in for a trim. I told her I couldn't remember the last time I had my hair cut and that I own zero hairstyling products and she went with it. My trim turned out beautifully and, the true test, it looks great when I just let it air-dry out of the shower! *thumbs up*
I had just the trim (no shampoo or styling) and it was only $25. *another thumbs up*
Jennifer was also super friendly and gave me suggestions on places I might consider applying for jobs where I had just moved out here. Definately my new go-to hair spot.
Around the beginning of August, I've decided to check out this place when I wanted to get a quick snip outta the blue. I live a few blocks from it so I decided to walk over get my hair cut there after I've read the reviews for this salon.
~Pro~
- friendly
- clean
- the hair stylist took her time (for a trim, took about 45 mins.)
- parking was decent (residential area)
~Con~
- a bit expensive for a trim/hair cut ($40 + tips)
- don't except credit cards
- had to wait about 10 mins. even though I had an appt. time (only 1 stylist that day working)
- boxes everywhere.. even though they've opened for about a year, looks like they're still unpacking
Overall impression... "ehh.." I wouldn't wanna pay $40 for a cut that was just ok.
I recently chopped off all my hair.
No small decision, seeing as how my hair has been long since...well, forever, and I've always gotten admiring comments about my long, thick waves. Friends with thin, straight hair always envied my hair.
But I was sick of it. Having moved from dry and sunny to cold and foggy, my hair wasn't having it. So, after weeks of mulling it over, I decided to take the plunge: the hair had to go.
But I needed a new stylist. I took to Yelp, hoping to find something good in the Sunset. I don't mind paying a lot for a good haircut, but I really didn't want to have to sit on the N for an hour to do that. Lucky for me, I stumbled across the Overland One. After reading the reviews, I immediately called to make an appointment with Katie.
Oh no! Katie was booked! Not wanting to have to wait, I booked with Jennifer, warning her ahead of time that it usually took longer to cut my hair than most people's.
I walked in Saturday morning, sat down, and told Jennifer to cut it off. I was, of course, vague and confusing in relaying my description of what I wanted ("about to here, but with layers, maybe a little longer here," with lots of hand gestures). After her initial , "are you SURE you want to do this?" Jennifer sat down with me and we flipped through some magazines to find a suitable style. Then we got to work.
Jennifer did an AMAZING job. I was terrified that by cutting my hair short (from halfway down my back to mid-neck!), I would end up with a fluffy pyramid head. But Jennifer threw in a bunch of layers, thinned out some parts, and the best part? It's a versatile cut, so I can keep my waves (no need to blow-dry and flat-iron every day!) I absolutely love the style, and I've gotten a lot of compliments. Apparently, short hair suits me, and I have Jennifer to thank.
And, it was only $40, and within walking distance of my place. How sweet is that?
I thought it was high time that I updated my initial review, not only to reiterate that Katie is awesome and I love the salon, but to add a little.
Now, Jennifer works there as well and she's just fabulous too! I haven't had my hair done by her yet, but she's one of the nicest people.
Also, Katie and Jennifer have been huge supporters of my jewelry business, allowing me some counter space to sell jewelry that I make. They're all about the local community and it's so nice to have another community-minded business here in the Sunset. So when you go in, be sure to check out all the locally created art! There are always new, awesome paintings and photography every time I stop in.

Love Katie. Love the salon, the location, the cut. So in love.
I have a ridiculous amount of curly, tangly hair and not only are Katie's the fastest haircuts I've ever had, they are also by far the best. My layers are never too choppy, and always grow out gracefully in between trims, which I admit I am bad about staying on top of, so this is a critical requirement for me.
She is also great with kids' cuts and is the only person my 4 yr old will allow to come near him with scissors. You can't beat a neighborhood place that is comfy enough for your kids to hang out, but still leaves you feeling pampered and beautiful when you leave.
Last night I got a great mani/pedi from Katie. Note that she puts hot rocks in the water to keep it warm. I especially enjoyed the rocks in the footbath, it was like an extra massage. It was relaxing for me, especially when my friend dropped in with a Mimosa from next door.
I will do this again some time soon!
I had my hair cut and dyed the other day by Jennifer at Overland One. She was so great. Very attentive, took time to listen to what I wanted and didn't want. The color was a perfect match (she said she used to work for years at a fancy salon in Pac Heights) Nice nice nice woman. And you can't beat the price. Most affordable place I've found in the city. I am a new woman with my new 'do!.
Katie is super, her sense of color is spot-on, the cut she gave me was great for my wild curly hair, and the salon has a fun, modern-retro decor. What a treat to have her in my neighborhood, which is becoming more hip every day!
I have extremely thin, curly, hard-to-make-look-good hair, so I have always gone to expensive hair salons because I only trust the best. But lately, I just haven't been able to afford $80+ for a simple cut. I was thrilled to discover Overland One... just walking distance from my house AND amazing prices. Katie is soooo sweet and she has cut my hair and my mom's and both turned out SO well. She did everything I asked for and made it looks ten time better than I expected! This is Katie's first salon and I really think the secret will get out about it quick! Great haircut + shampoo AND style-- all for $40! Thanks for saving my bank account, Katie!
where do i begin?
the service: i love my haircut, it is perfect. just what i asked for and better. the color is amazing...i feel like a celebrity with the perfect ,sassy, real looking red color and fun chunky blonde highlights. oh wait, there's more, i got my brows colored to match my hair...thus making my whole look even more natural and glamorous and last but not least i got a lash tint that again looks lovely and natural. a little high maintenance i know but the point is, i got it all done at overland one.
the stylist: katie is the greatest. she is very skilled at everything she does. she is a great colorist which is something that is hard to come by. oh yeah, and she is fun and personable too.
the price: unbelievably affordable. hollywood services without the cost.
the salon: totally cool, open airy, funky atmosphere. the design is maybe retro/contemporary...and feels very relaxed.
so, come to the beach, get a breath of fresh air and check out overland one in the sunset.
