Came with a friend on a Sunday night and the place was pretty empty compared to some of the other Greek restaurants in Astoria. But just a warning... this hasn't been the case most of the times I've walked by here, especially when the weather is nice.
We order the dips and some warm appetizers and a bottle of wine. All of the food was delicious and reasonably priced. The portions are HUGE and we ended up with way too much food (never a bad thing). Our waitress was very nice, but it took a while to get the check. It seems that most Greek restaurants you have to specifically ask for the check or they will assume that you want to sit around. If I lived closer I would definitely spend more time here.
Ovelia joins the bustling Astoria brunch scene. Make no mistake, no complaints here. I think it's great that we live in a community that brunches, much like cows grazing on a green field on a beautiful summer day. :-)
We were about fifteen in the group and started off with the trio of dips and pita bread. Then we had the salad with grilled calamari, omelette, salmon burgers and sliders. I have to say the grilled calamari was great although the omelette was so-so. What they do is they cook the egg and then top it with mushrooms and peppers, etc. much like, an open -omelette perhaps in an effort to save time. I like whatever is supposed to be in the omelette to be cooked and incorporated with the egg. It's just me.
The owner (who is a chef) and the manager were both friendly but the waitress did not give good service but we still gave her 20% tip out of consideration the we are a big group and that at any rate, the owner and the manager were solicitous. I guess I can say that I'm willing to try this restaurant for lunch or dinner.
I've since been back to Ovelia several times. Everything is outstanding here. I enjoy sitting at the bar and enjoying their happy hour that runs until 10PM. I have tried several of their dishes and they really are outstanding.
This is a great hip bar and restaurant to enjoy an evening.

This is a great, fairly new restaurant. Very stylish decor. The Pastichio was one of the better… Read more »
don't be fooled. despite receiving its glowing review from NY magazine, this place is a serious rip off. In a neighborhood full of awesome greek food, they just don't make the cut. It's expensive. The cocktails are nasty. The brunch is a disaster, the oysters are gritty (not fresh, literally dangerous), and the $21 scallops are rubber. Yeah, I've eaten there three times, because its so close to my apartment, but laziness is never worth cuisine that makes you sad you ate at all.
We stumbled upon Ovelia after trying desperately to wiggle our way in to Sweet Afton's for dinner and drinks to no avail. After pulling up the place on Yelp via the Blackberry, the four star rating pushed me in the door.
The ambiance was nice enough but the front windows that open on to the street were incredibly drafty and uncomfortable on this extremely chilly November evening. I also found the DJ standing in the corner a bit odd. I could have sworn he was playing the same song over and over again. The waitress was hot and cold...At some points attentive and at other times disappearing for long periods. I ordered the octopus appetizer (braised with red wine and grilled). It was good, not great. I tried some sort of bean appetizer my sister had and that was quite good. The lamb chops were okay as was some sort of noodle/cheese/beef casserole dish that my brother in law ordered. I did not care for the sangria which was made with port wine and served in a tiny glass.
I found this place pretty overrated. With all the amazing greek food in Astoria, I won't be back. Then again, I didn't try their brunch.
Hands down my favorite restaurant in Astoria. The food is "modern greek" so keep that in mind.
We go here for brunch a lot and I love their stuffed french toast with greek yogurt and honey. Sounds odd, tastes awesome. The brunch is a lot of food for your money and it's all really good.
We've also been for dinner and their calamari is fantastic, as are the sandwiches.
The waitresses we've had have been really great and attentive.
I highly recommend.
I had a terrible Saturday. Terrible weather, terrible morning. But my family wanted to try something new, as one of my family members was indisposed due to an illness. So, I knew this restaurant nearby where I live. The restaurant? Ovelia.
Once I came in around 11:30 AM, I was greeted by a very nice hostess, so I mentioned I wanted to order takeout. Then this followed by a very nice waitress and a very nice bartender who struck up a conversation with me, but unfortunately, I was Captain Buzzkill, but they didn't seem to mind and continued to talk. You got the idea, the service is very nice and recommended.
The food I ordered? Homemade salmon burger, grilled chicken platter and mousaka. The fries were great, they were nice and lightly crispy. The salmon burger was appropriately spicy, and the grilled chicken wasn't too dry, and it was neither tough nor too tender. The mousaka was huge, I easily had enough food for two days.
Overall, the atmosphere, the service and the food encouraged me to make the most of my day. The restaurant made my day. And I think for you all, it will overall make you enjoy your day.
3.5 stars. I meant to come for dinner, but a change of plan turned my virgin Ovelia experience into a brunch expedition instead. No matter. I was going to order the same dish anyway...(you'll find out soon).
I'm not a brunch food person because I don't eat eggs and avoid sweet meals for lunch (hence no french toast/waffles/pancakes for moi), but I love the brunch scenery and atmosphere, so I love to meet up with friends for brunch. I was happy to find out that the lunch menu is also available for the weekend. That was a definitely plus on my end. The brunch meal includes a mimosa/bloody mary and another nonalcoholic beverage. I was quite surprised to see milk being offered because rather do you see order that, unless you need to sedate your upset stomach from previous night's wine consumption. Anyway...
I was craving for good hearty protein, so I ordered the salmon salad. For $12, it is a bit expensive (since that dish doesn't include any drinks as well), but it was a sizable portion (a little more than a deck of card, nutritionist would say) and came with a piece of toasted pita. I wished they would've told me about the complimentary bread, otherwise, I prefer the wholegrain bread instead. My friend ordered the Ovelia omelet because she wanted the home fries.
So I was all happy to finally sit down and have the opportunity and the nice space to chat with my friend. But when my dish came out, I was disappointed because I asked for no bacon, yet my salad was topped with lots of it. The waitress brought it back and 'fixed' the problem, but we all know all the kitchen did was taking the bacon out and sent it back to me again. I tried to ignore this fact as I consume my salmon. I'm so 'disconcerted' because I'm a vegetarian (rare occasion I do eat fish) and I do not want any of my food to taste meat, but what was I supposed to do? Ask the kitchen to cook me another piece? That would be too demanding. So I tried to let our conversation cover up my OCD.
Now Ovelia's omelet is very unlike the ones you see else where. The eggs looked like a circular, fried disk. My friend claimed that it was tasty, but it just looked a little burnt around the edges to me. Oh and my friend asked for no peppers, yet there they were, lying on top of the eggs. The home fries were great, she also said.
The waitress was friendly, but the service could be a little slow. It's a nice restaurant, especially if you sit outside, but the kitchen really has to listen to the customer's needs. It's not that we're 'picky', but sometimes it's for our dietary/spiritual beliefs and concerns.
The cute decor and friendly atmosphere makes me want to give them 4*s. Ovelia is the best place for brunch on Astoria's famous 30th Ave that I've had so far, which really isn't saying much because I was underwhelmed by the others.
I ordered the corn flapjacks with ricotta and walnuts for brunch. It sounded a lot better than it tasted. I wish the corn flapjacks had more of a sweet corn flavor. It was a bit on the bland side. I prefer my pancakes to have most of the flavor and use the maple syrup for just a touch of sweetness, rather than using the maple syrup to amp up the flavor. The Ovelia sausage is a chorizo, or at least very chorizo like. Very crispy and crunchy, full of fatty flavor deliciousness. The coffee is very watery. The mimosa was nice; could taste the champagne that went into it. :)
I think all the cafes on 30th Ave are required to play this strange euro-trash technopop. I hear this music whenever I walk past Balu or Flo and now Ovelia. It was a bit odd because it definitely doesn't go with the Ovelia atmosphere.
OK, so the stars are almost exclusively for the extended happy hour (until 10!) and the awesomely awesome bartender. The food, not so much.
The saganaki was not good -- it was basically like a piece of cheese bread, not like the wonderfully crusty, whiskey and lemon-covered cheese on fire I've had at other Greek restaurants. The dips were not bad, but no stand-outs besides the fiery hot one. The bartender's recommendation, the house sausage, was tasty. The scallops were a real let-down...rubbery and just generally not up to par.
Drinks were good, and the ambience was nice. I will go back for drinks but probably not for a meal. Unless someone can persuade me with this brunch talk.
The food is good but what I like best about this place is the atmosphere. The owners are always around and they are so friendly. The bartenders are nice and have high elbows while making drinks, and the crowd is lively and unpretentious.
The only reason it gets a 3 star review is because the food is good but it is not what keeps me coming back, the atmosphere and the service is.
The other positive reviews I read were absolutely correct. This place is delicious! I had the lamb-and-fig kebabs, which were perfectly tender and marinated. SO sweet! The restaurant's atmosphere is very nice (the bathrooms are especially chic), and the server is friendly. My only criticism would be that the frappes are rather small -- they are served in stylish but narrow glasses!
Brunch was surprisingly very good. Outdoor seating on both tables and high benches. High benches were quite comfortable.
As for the special, I had french toast stuffed with greek yogurt. French toast was really good, greek yogurt wasn't flowing out and was perfectly intact. Greek sausages were yum yum delicius as well. Served with mimosa and a your option at tea or coffee, this brunch was well worth it.
****3 stars for delicious stuffed french toast, a good brunch menu and a very comfortable space both indoors and out. Will definitely return.
I don't know what i like more, how cute and stylish this place is or how awesome the food is.
I was craving Greek food, and Astoria is the best place for any and all greek needs. I found thid place right here on yelp, and my fellow Yelpers weren't wrong, this place is amazing.
I got the Moussaka, amazing! One it was massive, if you have the chance to split it, please do or your carrying the other hand home. Two they pair the with a side of potatoes, which i feel is weird because of the amount of potatoes within the Moussaka, but whatever its all amazing!
This place is a hit, the decor is very hip and sleek, the bathrooms (Water closets) are clean. They have indoor and outdoor seating, a good amount of both. Very nice waitress, friendly hostess, this place is great! And pretty cheap, $50 bucks for 4 people, not bad.
I only take one star away because they don't have Hummus? Like they just don't make it, not on the menu, no hummus for you!
Food: We decided on a tapas dinner. So we had some delicious raw oysters. It is best to go light on the cocktail sauce as it tastes like the canned stuff from Costco's. It would be a shame to mask the fresh aroma and subtle sweetness of the oyster.
Also had the htapodi stin sxara, which is octopus braised in red wine, then grilled. Easily the best way to prepare octopus and the best octopus I have ever eaten. Full of flavor and most importantly not salty. The texture is unbelievable, in that it does not feel like you're chewing on rubber incessantly. You can actually take 5 or 6 chomps and swallow. First time I can say that about octopus.
Had the taramosalata or cod roe spread. I recommend this to anyone just ordering appetizers. It comes with toasted pita bread, but more importantly, I felt like it was the glue that held all the appetizers together. You can dip anything into this sauce, instantly leveling up the original item. Wow, the last phrase can be applied to Greek food or Final Fantasy. You know food can't get any better when you have to break out FF metaphors.
French fries are sub-par (soggy).
Finish the meal with a banana strawberry crepe. One order comes with 3 crepes. Had no idea, so keep in mind when ordering. Multiple people can easily share one order. The crepes were perfectly prepared, moist, warm crepe, melted chocolate and super fresh strawberries and firm bananas, not the old mushy ones.
Drink: Not an impressive wine (low end selection, not much variety) list nor beer list (your basic macros). The cocktails sang a different tune. Fairly priced and stiff. You taste the alcohol, feel the alcohol, and its fun watching the bartender pour the alcohol, cause it don't stop. My girl had the Tango. Someone please try Santorini Bellini and let me know, she really wanted that too.
Service: Friendly staff through and through. Busboys, wait staff, hostess, bartenders.
Crowd/Ambiance: Local crowd, not jam packed but not desolate. So seating will be available on a Saturday night. Pretty tacky set up with the flowers and LED lights but whatever. The tables are uncomfortable for parties of 2. Large metal table, granted alot of food can be placed on the table, but the vast void takes away from any intimate feeling. Unless I went with another dude, then the table wasn't large enough...
Because we would order more food! (no other reason!!)
Someone in the kitchen must think of themselves as some sort of mad-scientist -- the menu is inventive and innovative, but some things don't necessarily work very well -- at least all the ingredients are fresh and everything is reasonably priced.
The waitresses are all very friendly... I don't understand why there's a dj booth, a rather large one... The bar is also huge, which doesn't make a lot of sense to me since it seems that only the waitstaff actually sit here, chatting on the phone and eating... The decor and design is over-the-top -- someone spent a lot of money to put in the fancy bathroom doors and sinks and toilets... Everything is clean and "modern."
Blood Mary needs some work. Service was excellent. A bit pricey for the food they offer when compared to other places in Astoria
Wasn't too pleased with this place. I had the lamb fig kebab and lemon potatoes. The potatoes were decent with a slight lemon flavor. The lamb kebabs could have been excellent except they were over cooked - I had asked for them medium - and they were definitely on the medium-well done side.
They do have outdoor seating, so it would probably be something to check out during a nice summer day.
I could've sworn I wrote a review for this place, given the amount of times I've eaten here.
Despite being a relatively young restaurant you'll be surprised to find a very mature offering of varying dishes that will provide a delicious option for all types of palates.
The dinner vibe of dimmed lights beautiful servers and on certain nights life DJ'd (or MacBooked) music compliment the modern and hip nature of this place.
Their pork chops are probably my favorite night time offering along with the spinach pie which has the perfectly light and fluffy exterior.
During the weekends, especially now that the weather is nicer I love coming here for their brunch which is a pretty solid deal. Sidewalk seating coupled with your eggs and mimosa are executed perfectly here.
Dang. It's my first '2' rating.
Very pleasant waitress, I'll give them that. And she came by and apologized because it took 40 minutes between taking the order and fulfilling the order. Hey, we didn't care, because the weather was nice, and there was great people watching from the cafe table set up in front of the restaurant.
\
But, there were only about 20 diners in there, so why would it take so long to make a pastitsio and a salad? And then, why would the pastitsio have to be dry, and why did the eggplant on the salad taste like it came out of a can? (Honestly, I've never eaten eggplant out of a can. I don't know if it comes in a can. But if it does, it tastes like this tasted.)
Disappointing. Overall vibe was fine, because I was with my babe and hadn't seen her for a while, so we were just hanging out in the early summer evening. But, I could have done the same thing elsewhere, and had good food too.
I have lived in Astoria for about 6 months now and I have to say I love Ovelia. I love trying local restaurants and Ovelia is one of my favorites because it is consistently good. The menu is obviously full of Greek food and I have never had a bad meal. The wait-staff is friendly (something that is becoming rare around 30th Avenue) and that makes any experience better.
I tend to stick to the pita sandwich, a good stand-by with fresh tomato, chicken and other toppings. A recent discovery of mine in regards to this place is that the drinks are great! I had some sort of white cranberry cosmo concoction and it was fantastic.
Prices overall aren't too shocking and for me the modern decor and outdoor seating are definite pluses. Next time a nice day roles around snag a seat outside and enjoy some people watching.
Service sucks, food is ok, portions are small, VERY small.
oh man this place was so awesome for brunch. I went there with a beautiful girl I was dating in Astoria and the food was outstanding. I had the stuffed french toast and whole wheat pancakes stuffed with bananas. I mean how can you beat that. If that sounds good to you then you should know it tastes even better.
It would be nice though if the french toast was whole wheat as well. If anyone knows where I can get that, I'd love you. But it has to be stuffed:).
I've been making my way down the restaurants along 30th ave, and Ovelia came up on the list. We went over there on a Friday night at maybe 8:30 PM.
Let's start with the decor: it's pretty nice. Good aesthetic, nice bathrooms, and.. a DJ booth? Not really sure why this place needs a DJ, but whatever. It was at least fifteen minutes before a waitress came and took our order. It took at least fifteen minutes to get our drinks after that (is it that hard to pour a glass of wine?) and then at least thirty minutes after that before we got our starters. I'm normally fine with waiting awhile for food, but maybe it was just hunger taking over. Or the other three tables that were complaining about the wait. Either way, it took awhile.
We use fried calamari as our benchmark for restaurants in Astoria, and I have to say, I was underwhelmed. Akti, just a block away, makes it so much better. It was good, sure, but the breading was kinda heavy here. I got the meatballs, which were pretty good.
Main course was a whole baked porgy which was pretty good, I have to say. I was so excited for a side dish of beets (I love beets!) and these were just kind of tasteless. My girlfriend got the sole, and it was pretty good, if a bit standard.
Ovelia was okay, I guess, but the wait killed me. And I wasn't wholly impressed by the food. To their credit, though, the drinks didn't show up on the bill, and we weren't sure if they were comped for the wait (we didn't say a word at all) or if the waitress forgot. But hey, whatever.
Ovelia is a very hip, cute and enjoyable Greek restaurant/café that stands out from the typical Euro fare found on 30th Ave in Astoria. The decor is light and airy. Also from Thurs thru the weekend they have a dj that spins trip hop and fusion which adds to the generally lounge vibe that Ovelia has. Best yet the food is actually authentic Greek, with a menu that boasts a great wine list featuring white, red and rose wines from across Europe (as well as many wines from Greece of course).
The food is very tasty and I have not had a bad experience with them thus far. Also I would suggest trying their rose wine sangria it is out of this world. Additionally the crowd makes this place exceptional in a sea of euro trash and classy café wannabes that line the street. Definitely a treat!
Stopped by for a quick bite to eat midday. The decor is really nice and the waitress was really nice to us. Food was just okay. We got kobe beef sliders, Lobster bisque soup, and drinks. Nothing too great, but it definitely wasn't bad. I have a feeling dinner or brunch would be much better so i'd go during those times if you can.
Very, very delicious Greek food in a stylish atmosphere. Came here last Friday night with a girlfriend not realizing it was double date night (literally, we were one of 2 tables that didn't have 2 couples at it, and the other one had 1 couple).
Although it took some time for our waitress to take our food and drink orders, our patience was rewarded by giant portions of high quality, simply flavored food. We split the fried calamari appetizer with spicy marinara, which came with a complimentary grilled pita -- the portion was huge, but too delicious to practice self-restraint and reserve space for din.
I ordered the grilled lamb chops for my entree with sauteed broccoli rabe. The waitress didn't ask me how I wanted by lamb cooked and when it was served I was dissapointed to find that it was cooked medium well (I prefer a bit rarer for lamb). Despite the doneness, the simple olive oil marinade bode very well for the lamb's flavor. The broccoli rabe was very fresh and had a great lemon taste, however it was a bit salty for me.
All in all, impressive meal. I'll definately be back to sample more of their fare.
I love OVELIA. They have the best SUNDAY brunch in ASTORIA. They portions are large, great presentation, plating and friendly waitstaff. The staff can be a little slow but the food more than makes up for it. Large location with great outdoor seating area. Pretty decent drinks and I would go for lunch, brunch or drinks. Cant say I have ever had there dinner but I am sure I wouldnt be disappointed. Classic Mediterranean dishes with flare. Huge bar to sit at and the sound system always has a great mix. All the above and they have a cool logo and sweet tshirts.
I love love love this place. It's a really cute space and the waitstaff is super nice and friendly. Everything I have ever ordered has been insane! The lunch and dinner are good...but their brunch is mega good. It's well priced and you will leave so full you might need to buy new pants on your way home. Their omelets are amazing. I usually get the beet omelet with just egg whites. It's stuffed with goat cheese, scallions, and dill. I love goat cheese so the more the better and they give you a ton!
The breakfast sausage here is so good. It has a spicy mexican flavor.
The bloody mary's are perfectly spicy!
Whatever you order here will be sure to please. I suggest no matter where you live, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Staten Island (sorry), you make the trip to Astoria for a lovely brunch at Ovelia.
Good lunch sammiches, nice people watching from the outdoor seating, and friendly wait staff. The bloody marys were "meh," and without any celery (!), but I'm also pretty picky about a good one. I want to go back and get some of the more Greek fare. The grilled octopus looked as good as up at Taverna Kyclades.
I trekked over here from Bushwick to meet some friends in Astoria who I hadn't seen in ages. Besides the fact that it was great to see my friends, the brunch here was well worth the trek!! I'm a big fan of Ovelia after a wonderful afternoon & a DELICIOUS brunch!
The staff is incredibly friendly - from the manager to the bartenders. Service was prompt and courteous and everyone really seemed to enjoy working there. The ambiance is cool & modern - I felt as if I was in a trendy Manhattan spot and not in Astoria. Pumping international dance music was playing through the speakers, which normally I would find cheesy, but it added to the energy and fun of the space. The volume was loud enough to make the place seem hopping, but not so loud that it drowned out our conversation.
I started with a Lychee mimosa, which was very tasty and not overly sweet. I ordered the beet omelette w/ fruit homefries and the Ovellia sausage. The beet omelette was made with pureed beets and stuffed with goat cheese, scallions, and dill - a very unusual but surprisingly lovely concoction. The fruit homefries basically consisted of sauteed bananas, apples, and pears - it was a great alternative to starchy, heavy potatoes and complimented my brunch really well. Finally, the Ovellia sausage was spicy, juicy and didn't last too long on my plate!
Brunch comes with coffee & a choice of mimosa or bloody mary. My meal + an extra lychee mimosa was $21, not including tip! A great value - I'm so glad my friends invited me here! Highly recommended!!
The first time I went to Ovelia it was midday and my boyfriend and I split some sliders. They were okay but pretty pricey. Then my boyfriend took my dad there for Brunch when I was out of town. They both raved about it so when my dad came back for another visit he INSISTED we go there. And now I see why.
Beet. Omelet. The most delicious and inventive and beautiful meal ever. And I mean beautiful. The beets give the omelet a pinkish color that is amazing. The brunch here is fantastic and we now go here often. The Bloody Marys and Mimosas are great and they have a fantastic fruit fries (like home fries) that everyone needs to try once. And don't forget to try their signature sausage...it's delicious.
Oh man, I'm so glad Maiah J. introduced me to this place. We went on a Sunday night and found that we had the place basically to ourselves for dinner.
The decor is awesome, our waitress was incredibly nice, and the food was divine. The best part? The sweet potato crepe. Please, toss your New Year's resolutions to the side and order this taste of heaven. And it's big enough for three people! I promise that you will not regret it.
Ahhh, just thinking about it makes me hungry. Ovelia, I love you so.
This is a fantastic addition to the Astoria dining scene!!! I had an early dinner on a sunny day a few days ago and it was great! We had the kobe beef sliders and octopus braised in red wine to start...yummm...eee!! The sliders came with three dips and some fried sweet potatoes...the plate went back shiny white!!! The octopus braised in red wine was among the best I've had! and the portion was great (I hate when some places are skimpy!) I was kinda stuffed when my entree of dover sole in a butter garlic sauce with lemon potatoes arrived....but I sent the plate back shiny white as well...no dishwashing required! Pleasant place to eat great food and watch all the nice looking people walk by!!!
The food is phenomenal--we were there for lunch. A Pita sandwich with bifteki and kafteri, a Lentil salad, and a Moussaka...all delightful. Each was authentic, though with a thoughtful twist, a hint of fresh thinking about ingredients.
I think the owners are creative--in a good way--in combining ingredients and assembling what is offered. Excellent work!
The atmosphere is a step out of Astoria. A modern twist with some interesting and unique design elements to intrigue you while waiting for your food or during a pause in the conversation.
It's a fun and interesting experience right down to the restrooms (yeah, really). Go with an appetite, the portions are hearty.
I came here with my friend and her mother for brunch on Sunday morning. Our waitress was ADORABLE. My friend's mom ordered a soy milk cappuccino that came out more like a latte. When she asked the waitress about it the poor girl admitted that she had just finished bragging about her foam on that particular drink to all of her coworkers. From then on, we knew she was our girl :).
As far as food goes... two words: BEET OMELET. Unfortunately, I didn't order the Beet Omelet as the idea worried me but this infused egg masterpiece was delicious. I sampled it from both of my companions' plates and couldn't help but go back for seconds. And thirds. Ugh. So decadent, so gorgeous, and so, so, so good.
Also, everyone knows brunch is the best meal of the day in which you are allowed to forgo your New Years Resolution of not consuming massive amounts of egg, cheese, and coffee. So you can trust that I'll definitely be back to Ovelia for unlimited coffee (sorry body) and a beet omelet of my own.
I went here again for lunch with my mom. Boy, these people can really cook. My mother is extremely difficult to please when it comes to food that is not Korean. But, she loved the chicken sandwich and I loved my salmon burger sandwich with chipotle sauce. My mom was also in love with her side dish of fresh fried sweet potato chips.
The only thing is, we're not really into feta cheese. But just from looking at it, the cheese looked really fresh. Anyone who loves feta cheese should try this restaurant.

Apparently they serve food and have an indoor seating area here, but I would never know it. All I know about the indoor part of Ovelia is that it's where the bathrooms are.
I have heard good things about the food though. And my drinks were awesome. What I had thought was going to be a one sangria while sitting outside enjoying the nice weather quickly turned into two sangrias, then three (I personally preferred the white over the red, but both were good), then switching to beer, then finishing off the night with a mojito because my friend's was so good. An early evening turned into a late one, and a planned nice home cooked dinner turned into stopping at 7-11 for a Monterey Jack & Chicken taquito at 11pm. Thanks Ovelia!
I've had brunch here twice, and both times it was very good. The first time, my date ordered Kobe Beef Sliders and I had the Ovelia omelet. Both were very good. On another visit, we had the pulled pork sandwich with apple-cabbage cole slaw and the omelet again. The omelet comes with either potato or fruit "home fries"; the fruit version is very good.
Ovelia is one of the many restaurants that believe that diners want to listen to loud music while they eat. No one knows how this started. I was complaining to my date about it the first time I came in, and the hostess very nicely said she'd seat us where it was a little quieter. On the second visit, we sat outside.
The staff is friendly and service is good.
Firstly, I'm always annoyed when a restaurant has items on the menu that they no longer server. Don't bother ordering the tuna, they couldn't be bothered to take it off the menu when they decided to stop serving it.
Also, be wary. I ordered the quail, and it came with one side- which was about 1/4 cup of rice. no vegetable, and though there were 3 quail breasts, those of you that know quail know that this meal amounted to very little food. My friends meals were not much better in terms of food for the money. The food is good, but there's not much of it for the price. It's not too cheap. The baklava we had for dessert was very sweet, it tasted almost like there was maple syrup on it. Good, but perhaps the sweetest most saccharine baklava I've ever had (the pleasure of having)
The restaurant is nicely decorated, and there is plenty of comfortable seating on the street, So it's a nice place to go for a summer meal.
