I like outback bikes. Its good environment and its full of bike porn. They dont carry much in the way of freeride/downhill dj stuff...or really any.
They cater more to the rodie XC crowd that actually has money to buy new bikes....in other words they do not cater to me or the folks i ride with .....but everytime ive set foot in this shop to buy supplies or get my bikes tweaked on they are more than helpful and all the mechanics up there are very good.
Ive gone in because my Bike wasnt shifting right and was out the door in 10 mins.Super fast mechanic hands in this place.
The only issue i have is that 90% of the stuff they offer is Taiwan / China made Specialized crap. Its not that the bikes arent hot to look at,but im a fan of U.S. or Canadian made bikes and im my opinion we need more bike shops that sell only these.I will not spend 5k on a bike made in China.

Outback Bikes say they're a bike shop without the attitude.  This statement couldn't be further from the truth.

Since I bought my Specialized from Outback Bikes, I'm able to get free tune-ups and adjustments whenever I want.  Yet, I will PAY for these services at Peachtree Bikes.  I will pay for services I can get for free, and it's not because I have money to burn.  That's how terrible Outback Bikes is!

Their attitude would be tolerable if their mechanics were good, but that's not even the case.  I don't think some of the employees even bike themselves, unless it's a fixie around Little 5.  I have tried to establish a relationship with this shop, but gave up as I started going to Peachtree Bikes and experiencing how you're supposed to be treated by a professional bike shop.  Mike, the owner of Peachtree Bikes, is a great guy to get to know by the way.

Their bike fit consisted of me riding around the parking lot and the shop employee eye-measuring my measurements.   At that time, I was a noob and thought oh okay.  Now I realize how lazy this is, considering I bought my bike from them.  It is stand for LBS to put your bike on a trainer to accurately perform a bike fitting.

For repairs, I've had my rear derailleur cable incorrectly installed, and my headset loosened for no apparent reason on two separate occasions.  I've had to return my bike to get it fixed, just after they fixed it a day ago.  I don't even live near Little 5.  AWESOME!

There is a female mechanic who has effectively ruined this store for me.  She constantly makes it known that she thinks I'm trying to run them out of business.  She constantly charges me for repair work that should be free since I purchased my bike from them, and then I notice that those charges are removed if another mechanic handles the job.

When my hydraulic disc pads were stuck, she told me how she might have to bleed my brakes etc which would cost 25 bucks.  That sounded extreme.  By researching online, I discovered you can buy spacer for 2 bucks and just shove it in between the pads.

I originally told the owner I would not write a scathing review, but after experiencing the professionalism and friendliness of Peachtree Bikes, I can not help but tell others that Outback Bikes is not the place to go, unless you are into the whole Little 5 hipster charm, which I fully don't understand the appeal of.
Otherwise, if you're a regular guy like me who enjoys the sport of cycling and wants a base shop, there's plenty of other LBS's in Atlanta that will provide you better service with more professionalism.

I love love love these guys because (1) they're sweet despite being in Little Five, (2) the bikes a gorgeous and I love to browse them, and (3) they don't care that I'm shopping for spin gear in a fancy bike store and will gladly advise on which cleats are best for my spin-class pursuits.  I have a silly little bike but I love to ride and I feel right at home with Outback.  Also, Edgemont is a sweetheart - he'll go out of his way to help and provide the best service he can. Simply put, Outback rocks.

I wish I could give 0 stars, that how bad I feel after one sales guy told me to come back the next day so they could build the bike I wanted in the size I needed....and they sold it to someone else  :((((((((((((((((((((((((((

This is not the first time I have been told one thing, which was completely different from reality.

This was even after spending 75$ on accessories for a bike I did not get a chance to ride.

There seems to always be plenty of people in the store but no one is helpful or honest.

It's a shame that they have more stuff in stock than any other shop in-town, but the service is completely unreliable. It's back to shopping at amazon and getting service from the awesome crew at Loose Nuts in Grant Park.

I've been in the shop five times in two months. I really wanted to like the place, because they have a good selection of brands, including Specialized and Bianchi. Despite some good qualities, I can't recommend. Here's the good, bad, and ugly:

Good: There's really one "sales" guy, a tatted-up cat named Edgemont who is really knowledgeable about bikes and took the time to understand what I needed. He made a really solid, thoughtful recommendation and cut me a good deal on a new bike.

Bad: If Edgemont is busy, which is much of the time, good luck getting some attention from the indifferent staff.

Ugly: Edgemont recommended I bring the bike back in a week for an initial tune-up, and monthly thereafter for regular maintenance, which, he assured me, they could do while I wait. After stroking the check for the new ride, I show up for the first tune to learn they need to keep the bike one week, as they're backed up on service. Not good. I realize (now) how important it is to buy a bike from a place that can provide service, not just the initial sale. So my experience feels a little like bait and switch - buyer beware on this point.

I came to Outback about 90 percent sure of what I wanted: a 51 cm Bianchi Pista via Condotti. I'd shopped at Outback before and knew they send a lot of Pistas out the door. I even saw a via Condotti leaned against a wall when I walked in. Success!

The ever-friendly Edgemont saw me hovering, asked what I was shopping for, and said, "This is a great bike. Can't get it." Failure.

He went on to explain that Bianchi was producing far fewer of this particular bike; if I were a bit taller, this would be a bit easier. They could order one from the company and probably get it around December. I'm a bike commuter, a carless one at that. My last bike was destroyed in a car accident; December was not going to work for me. But...he could check around to see if another bike shop had ordered one, and hadn't been able to pay for it. If that was the case, he could snatch it up. It'd be...maybe a week? Possibility?

I left disheartened, but comfortable that Edgy was checking it out for me, and that he'd suggested some other decent options -- going with a regular Pista and getting it powdercoated, or even ordering a Soma Rush like I'd had before.

About a week and a sinus infection later, the phone rang in the middle of a squishy Advil-induced dream.

    "Jamie?"

    "Yeeeeah?"

"It's Edgemont from Outback. I got your bike!"

    "You did?"

"It's sitting right here. When can you come get it?"

    "OHMYGOD! You got my bike!"

I picked it up today, and was beyond thrilled with the bike, Edgemont's dedication to the search and the kindness of the mechanics and staff, who swapped out a cog for a more comfortable gear ratio, and oohed-and-ahhed like they were taking it home themselves. The price was exactly what they'd quoted -- no upsell, no funky charges because it's hard to get. They did offer several reminders that I get free service from them, and should take advantage of it.

"What do you think?" Edgemont asked.

    "It's super-gorgeous!" I gasped.

And then he laughed at me, said those were exactly the words he was looking for, and that I should have a safe ride home.

As a novice bike commuter, and rider for that matter, I came in looking to just get measured one day. Two days later, I ended up walking away with a brand new single speed bike, which I ride almost every day to work now. I owe them for making me accessible in this big city.

The day I came in, I met Edgemont, who everyone has been already raving about below me. He measured me by just looking at my standing height and started briefing me about different things I should know about having a bike. He informed me that they had just received a new 2011 single speed bike which he offered to build for me to try out. Sounded all too good, so I told him I'd think about it and swing by later in the week.

The entire next day,  I could not get that bike out of my head. I called the shop right away and Edgemont informed me that the bike would be ready for a test ride when I got off work. I hurried to the shop after work and got to test the bike in the backlot. It rode like a champ. I paid 1/3 of the bike off immediately and paid the rest and took home the bike two days later.

They offer 60 days for you to pay off the bike, but you have to pay everything off in order to take it home. They also offer Free Lifetime Maintenance on the bike to the original owner , which is pretty awesome. My experience was mainly interacting with Edgemont, but the rest of the staff was equally helpful and courteous to the other customers in store. A great resource to anyone in the biking community

I really want to like Outback Bikes. The L5P location is a few blocks from home, their selection of gear and accessories is stellar, their shop is huge and their hours convenient.

Problem is, they keep botching the opportunity to sell me anything.

Seeing all the positive reviews here, I think my bad experiences are due to the fact that I ride and fix old bikes. I don't buy new ones at Outback, but that shouldn't make any difference to a shop that also sells parts.

I tried to buy brake cable and housing but didn't wan't the prepackaged super-set for $30, so the staff was nice enough to cut me some housing from behind the counter.

When I took the goods to the counter, the cashier was on the phone. This is fine and well, but there she remained--on the phone--for more than five minutes while I stood there with money in hand. At no point in time did she call over one of the idle staff members behind the service desk to help make the transaction while she was busy. And If that's just not the way Outback's system works, then it should be. Just make the sale.

My boyfriend has had the same experience. He bought a 15-year-old Schwinn in good condition while I was out of town. It needed some air and a tune up. When he approached a staff member to ask whether he thought the bike was a good investment, the staff member asked "For you?" Boyfriend said yes, staff said "the frame's too small. Air is over there" and walked away. Needless to say, boyfriend didn't go chasing after the guy asking for a tune-up. And before that, he had brought in a Raleigh fixed gear that needed an adjustment, was told to come back in a few hours, and came back to find it in the same place he left it. Staff said it didn't need any work. If anyone in that shop had sat on it for 3 seconds, they would realize it needed work. Once again, Outback, just make the sale.

I won't be going back. There's better spots nearby.

Point is, if you value well-made bikes that have endured years of wear and have the potential to perform for years more, you already value that more than Outback values your business. If you want a new Bianchi but don't really want to know anything about how it all works underneath you, let Outback be your guiding light.

Outback Bikes is everything a local bike shop should be. They've got a lot of good bikes and gear in stock. The employees are very cool, knowledgeable and attentive. They dedicate a lot of time to fitting riders with the right bike, which is really important if you want a bike you'll ride and not leave in the garage and forget about. Also, I've had several repairs done in their shop, and the results were great.

Most importantly they take their relationships with their customers very seriously. At one point I brought up to the owner an incident I had with the shop when it first opened, and despite the fact that it happened almost a decade ago he fixed everything.

This is a good shop, and I recommend them highly.

First time mtb buyer. Went to outback after reading several good reviews. Must say they lived up to all of them. Got a great deal on a specialized rockhopper comp 2011 model. Threw in a few other discounts for some accessories helments gloves etc. Shawn was very helpful in the process informing me on everything I did not know. Very patient,Shawn came outside and helped us load the bike up in the car, the front wheel had to come off. Remember a good shop is just as important as a good bike.

If you want to be a cool, eco-friendly biker and you don't have a clue about bikes, Outback Bikes will take care of you.  I recently bought an AWESOME bike there and I'm super happy with the service I received and with my shiny new purchase.

Don't be overwhelmed by the vast selection of bikes- just find someone who works there (if they don't find you first) and tell them your budget and what you want a bike for.  Then you sign a waiver and you can test out the bikes in the large parking lot next door.

Now, these aren't Walmart bikes.  Expect to pay anywhere from $250-$1,000+, depending on what your biking needs are.  But I don't want to be pedaling down a busy street and have the bike fall apart on me, you know?  You can also get all your other biking gear and tools here.  Wear helmets, people!

Best part of all - free maintenance for the lifetime of the bike!  Yup, just bring it in whenever it needs a tune up.  And even if you move out of state and sell the bike to someone local, they'll still honor the maintenance agreement.

I am forever in debt to Amber and Outback Bikes. I had a beach cruiser that needed to become "ride-able" again, and they did a great job, had great advice and made me very happy as I actually RODE away from the shop. If you have bike issues, questions, maintenance or are like me and have no idea what to do with your bike besides ride it, this is the place for you.

I have a shiny pink beach cruiser that I adore, but with 26-inch tires and tons of treads it was impossible to get the bike up any hill, no matter how tiny. I was about to chalk it up to Craigslist and buy a city bike, but then thought "what the hell?" I'll see if Outback can help me. After borrowing a friend's larger car to transport the thing (yes, cruisers are huge and heavy), I wheeled into Outback and Amber had the solution to get new tires with smaller treads and even grease the chain and kickstand so they would work better. After an hour, my bike was literally riding again and I couldn't be more grateful or happy.

Watch out for me cruising the streets of Poncey Highlands--I dont have a helmet yet--I'll be the one with a huge smile because of Outback Bikes!

To be honest, I haven't bought a bike from Outback...but I have purchased accessories and used their repair service.

Their repair service is efficient and very competent, albeit my repair needs were very minor. But I'd certainly trust them with something more complex.

Also, I like their selection of bikes and imagine that when I go shopping for a new one, I'll go there first.

Don't trust your wheels to some putz trying to sell you a flashy night light.

Outback has a whole crew of bike experts ready to fix your bike or give advice.  They're the only shop in town I've been to where they seem genuinely interested in talking about biking rather than just selling you on stuff.

If you live in Atlanta and are in the market for a bike (AKA you have no fear of death by hummer) then check out the selection here.  They have a sweet deal  - buy a bike and have free maintenance for life.

Prices are steeper than what you'll find online, but worth it for being able to rely on what your buying and who's installing it for you.

These guys really know what they are talking about and truly want to help you find the bike that is right for you. I recently bought a bicycle from Outback and couldn't ask for better service.

I went in completely clueless about what I wanted and I left with the perfect bicycle. Granted, I didn't just walk in and 15 minutes later have purchased a bike. The guy who helped me out (man, I wish I could remember his name) really took the time to find me the perfect bike. And that indeed took some time. I'm really short and the shop had to build smaller bikes and eventually special order the right size. I paid a little bit more than I wanted, but I'm totally glad I did. I want this to last me a while! The most amazing part, free maintenance on the bike. Forever!!! That's a huge plus for me, since I totally anticipate running into a tree or parked car.

But they have an enormous selection of bikes for every different type of rider, plus all the accessories and a repair shop. Oh, and go during the week if you can. They have more bikes built and more time to spend with you finding a bike.

Now only if it wasn't 90+ degrees outside, I'd be set!

I feel like I should write this - particularly after seeing the dismal review most recently.

Outback Bikes should be your store of choice - for a number of reasons. They have every product and accessory under the sun, there's no doubt about that. They are in a great location in L5P. But the owner has a commitment to the community and charity that no other store can claim - and even personally stopped on the side of the road and helped me during the AV200 last year. (I had a low tire and my gauge wasn't working.)

My Specialized bike - purchased from them last Spring - has held up great and I will continue to go back to them for all my biking needs. Make sure to check them out! And if you're not being heard, say so, and someone else can help you there.

They went over and over everything with me for weeks until I was ready to make a decision.

This was the 1st place I went, so needless to say I had to go everywhere else to make sure, and I went through more than one tank of gas doing so, but nothing compared.
A mom and pop shop that has great prices and will look after any bike you buy here for a lifetime.

This store comes equipped with a completely confident staff both in sales and mechanics. You will not get sold anything you should not have, in fact you will sometimes get talked down to ensure that your purchase is the right thing for what you want. The shop is owned and led by a man whom seams to have a strong spiritual sense that he implies in all the teams business practices. If you are a first timer, go here and get what you want and need. If your a pro at this biking thing than you will know as soon as you enter Outback, this is where its at.
Also you can rest assured that only quality products are what they carry. I am a shrude shopper who makes a practice of only supporting good people and will send everyone here!!!

I came to Outback in need of a bike and had no clue on what type of bike to get.  I was helped by one of the most knowledgeable, professional, service oriented  stores ever!   Edgemont  was so helpful in assessing my needs and matching me with the perfect bike as a novice rider.   I felt very comfortable allowing him to take the initiative in my purchase.   He took into consideration my budget and my lack of knowledge and guided me through every step with ease.  His ability to know what was a good fit for the me took out all the guess work which made me very relaxed.  Edgemont  is awesome  and I was lucky to have him help me with such a big decision.  I even let him choose the color I had that much trust in him. I cant thank Outback and Edge enough.  Bonus!..Lifetime maintenance on your bike.  STELLAR!

LOVE Outback Bikes!!  Between my family and my sister's family we have boughten 5 bikes and a weehoo.  The service is always top notch and Mike has been a huge help every time!
We have always been crazy about this place and the people that own it and work there and this weekend they took their elite service to a whole new level for us.  We were riding the path trail back from Stone Mountain and my husband got a flat tire.  We were about 12 miles from our home and without any tools to change the flat.  As we were contemplating what to do, an Outback Bikes van just happen to drive past us.  They saw our daughter's weehoo and pulled over.  The owner of the store got out, changed my husband's tire including a new tube, free of charge and sent us on our way!!!!  We are continually impressed with this store and their amazing service!!

i tried to order a bike from here and they said "we may get that in"  " we'll give you a call when the specialized shipments come in "

i never got a call ... i went down there and got the same story about possibly getting a Specialized Langster in ...

The staff just doesn't give a shit about helping you or ordering anything for you .. whether you have the money or not .....

i hope the owner cleans house .. and hires a staff that actually gives a fuck .. otherwise, this place can disappear for all i care ....

this bike shop royally sucks ...

you would get a bike you want quicker if you ordered it from italy and had it shipped parcel post on a camel's back .....

i hope peter wicker, owner of outback bikes,  sees this and contacts me .. i will glad to express my disdain for his terrible, unhelpful, holier than thou staff !!

Last year, I decided I wanted to buy a bicycle. At the time, I hadn't been on a bike for well over a decade (my last bicycle was a Huffy my parents purchased from Sears when I was 12), so I walked into the store knowing absolutely nothing about what I wanted to buy. The staff at Outback humored me by answering my silly questions and then helping me choose a bike to fit my height and riding needs; I even test rode several before making a decision... I was there pretty much all afternoon, and nobody lost their patience. I will admit I did have a little bit of sticker shock, because I was not previously aware that bicycles could cost more than what I pay monthly for rent. However, I do feel that some things are worth an investment, and a bike is one of them!

Outback Bikes, no doubt one of the best bike shops 'round town.  Comfortable atmosphere for anybody to walk into, recreational cyclist, seasoned athlete or somebody just curious about any kind of cycling in and around Atlanta.  I moved to ATL five years ago without a car, which makes me an everyday cyclist, folks at Outback have always made me feel welcome.  Full range of quality bikes and gear to accommodate just about anybody.

I have given Outback bikes several tries with the same results each time, total waste of time. I could not believe the attitude that the employees had. When they finally seemed to drop the attitude to find out what I wanted they immediately up'd the jackassery when they found out what I was going to do with the parts I was looking for. Franken-bikes and mopeds (the kind with pedals) need parts too. I have since found another bike shop less than a mile away from Outback that is more than willing to help, and pretty cool to boot. These guys will NEVER have my business again.

We bought bikes this weekend at Outback bikes after going to several places to shop around. We by far got the best service from Outback, and it caused us to go back despite the price of the same bike being cheaper at another store. After we went back to buy the bikes from Outback, we got great discounts which just added to our happiness with our experience! We would definitely recommend Outback to anyone looking for a bike, and we especially liked working with Amber who was really helpful with our totally unsophisticated questions.  Great experience overall!
