So I'm not a big thrift store girl, but we needed a few more chairs for the upcoming holiday dinner and, in hopes of finding a decent old set of dinning chairs in need of tlc, headed to Out of the Closet (due mainly to reviews on yelp). At first I was simply impressed with the selection of non-clothing items (most of the thrift stores I've been dragged into are pretty much exclusively old clothes). There are numerous pieces of furniture and most of if in pretty decent shape. Some of it was totally out of date, but there were a couple pieces that were perfectly fine and looked like something outta pottery barn (or whatever typical overpriced furniture store you'd like to compare it to). As other reviews stated, this place doesn't smell like other thrift stores I've been to, and the staff were very nice. It seemed to have a much higher male percentage of clientele, so I'd bet there are some great finds in the women's clothing. From what I glanced at, the selection was very current and cute.
I'm sure I'm rating it 4 stars because we were successful in our search (4 chairs for $20!!! - though I will be painting and re-upholstering them), but I feel as though I will be drawn to check in to see if there's any great bargains to be found periodically.
Oh, and we also were the lucky recipients of a spiffy little ottoman that was outcast to the trash with a "free" tag on it as we picked up our chairs from the back. So yeah for easily torn (and easily covered up) leather!
I love the selection of used clothing. The staff is very courteous and pleasant. The store is very well organized--you have no problem finding where things are--and the merchandise is high quality for a thrift store. My only complaint is that many of the household items tend to be a little overpriced--I saw an old toaster oven here for the same price as a brand new one at Target. And the used televisions often go for $100 or more, when you can find the same ones on Craigslist for almost nothing. But the money all goes for a good cause, so no complaint there.
Ok, I'm a big Yard Sale slash Estate Sale slash Thrift Store slash Flea Market slash Bizarre fan anyway .... not 'cause I'm cheap or broke (usually) ... just 'cause I LOVE LOVE a bargain and love to hunt for that " just right thing you thought you had to have while you were there so you took it home and decided that maybe you really didn't need it but now that you bought you'll keep it until you have your own yardsale or find a place for it somewhere ... "
...Out of the Closet is one of the coolest Thrift stores in Fort Lauderdale/Wilton Manors. Not just because they give back to those in need, but because you can find some really cool stuff in there.

first of all, the boys who work here are nice and will help you find things, they are also funny. the place is clean and does not have that depressing thrift store smell. I like to donate things here because it all goes for a good cause, to help people plagued with AIDS. It is organized too...let's say you want a grey shirt, all the grey stuff is together so you just go to the color.. i get abercrombie t'shirts here, a filofax leather cover for notepaper, a breadmaker (never been used), some black leather cowboy boots, (kimmel)...good stuff, not the cheap cardboard leather kind.....last time the dude at the register threw in 5 white pencils from the Delano hotel with my bag o' goodies. I have a boyfried who is so clean and grossed out by used anything......until I took him here and he left with two pairs of guess jeans for $7 each.......my new $3 victorias secret nightshirt is long , roomy and pretty....ok, so I am a label whore...you have to be when you shop at thrift haunts...and this one is my favorite.....a shining department here is books.....i got a williams-sonoma cookbook from spain with recipes to die for........$30 at the store, $2 at out of the closet although the recipe for a pepper flatbread was torn out....
