17 reviews for Our Place
Although I'm no Indian food expert, my instincts tell me that this might be the best Indian restaurant in the Metroplex. Why, you ask? Well, my friends, it's because there were no other gringos in attendance. The service was spot-on, the menu had many different vegetarian and carnivorian choices, and the food was amazing! I chose the chicken tikka masala and it was perfect - I don't think I could possibly have a better version of this dish. Although I had rice, my friends' naan was also delicious.
There's not much to say about Our Place - it's simple, but the food is exceptional and the service is attentive. I can't wait to return.
The food and ambience were good and so was the service.. Wide variety of options and quick service. We went for dinner and so it was the ala carte menu, which had a lot of options.. I wouldnt say its any more pricier than most other places and good sized portions too-We had enough leftover to take away for the next meal too :D The vegetarian thali seemed a very good option for the price, the cauliflower in the gobi manchuria could have been cooked a bit more though.. It was still a little uncooked towards the center.
But overall, certainly worth a visit! And I'm sure to give them a visit again sometime
My wife has a coworker who was born and raised in India, and recently returned to the mothership to pick himself up a mate. As you can probably imagine, his wife's adjustment to the good 'ole US of A has not always been a bed of roses, but she claims that Our Place made the transition much easier. I figured that if this place is good enough for her, it's probably good enough for me, and I have since been back several times for some quality Indian cuisine.
Now there's two ways you can judge an Indian place: 1) On the buffet or 2) on the a la carte menu. I've generally had bad experiences with buffets, and I've heard their buffet would add to that list, so my review is focused on the second option.
The menu at Our Place is absolutely massive, about 180+ options if I remember right, so it's easy to be intimiated. It's also easy to be distracted, since there are some of Bollywood's highest quality flicks (all musicals) playing on a big screen in the background. But never fear, I've now had about 15 or so items on their menu and all of them have been great.
We usually start off with a Masala Dosa which is always a feast for the eyes as well as the mouth. Finish that off and your primed for some of my faves, including the Chicken 65, Chicken Tikka Masala and Chicken Vindaloo. Make sure to go with people who wouldn't mind eating off your spoon or double dipping so you can try everything on the table. I promise that if you wash it down with some of that tasty buttery naan you'll be smarter, run faster and jump higher too.
Our Place is a little on the pricey side in my opinion so we don't go quite as often as I would like. Maybe they're charging extra for those imported Bollywood movies, who knows? Either way, Our Place is one of Valley Ranch's best Indian food establishments, and I would highly recommend it.
I've only been for the lunch buffet because it's right next to where I work. This place is fine, but not anything I'd go out of my way for. I've had better Indian food for less. The goat curry is pretty good, but the overall selection is average in my opinion. My Indian coworkers really like it though, for what it's worth. Free soft-serve ice-cream is a plus (although it was a little too soft =P).
I have been to this restaurant atleast 4 times now, so I am writing, what I think has been pretty consistent across my visits.
Will begin by saying that the place is spacious and you dont feel like you are sitting close to others or where others can hear your conversation etc.
Since it is not too old a restaurant, the ambiance is also pretty much like any fast food Indian place, with fine decor/silverware/napkins/LCD TVs etc.
I have always gone there at nights and have thus always ordered from their Menu. It is basically a South Indian restaurant, with North Indian entrees as well. So you will be fine, if you stick with South Indian food, until you don't care about having North Indian food cooked in South Indian style and spices.
The quality of food was good and it was all fresh. I would rank the ambiance, price and dining experience as shade better than Mayuri. It is a casual, fast food kind of a restaurant, so as long as you don't go in with high hopes, you will come back satisfied. I plan on visiting this place every time I feel like having Dosa, Uthappam, Idlis etc.
This is the best Indian restaurant in the MacArthur blvd/north Irving area! The south Indian dishes are the best (especially dosa).
The food has always been consistently good in the years we have been dining here.
Wasn't sure what to expect when I came here.
Its not bad, when I went it was for lunch on a rainy Saturday.
They had a Alright selection.. it was different than most indian places i've checked out, this one had some chinese ish type looking fare as well, interesting mix.
They have a lil side vegetarian buffet bar too, and the day I went they had like all together 4 different types of rices... I like me some RICE so thats always cool with me. Its cool that soft drinks come included in the lunch buffet.
It had a decent atmosphere when I went in, maybe cause it was pretty chill, not a lot of loud yip yapping going on, and it was raining outside, kinda coo super chill lunch.
Their chicken tikka masala was pretty watery, seemed watered down in flavor too a bit.. i dunno if that is just cause we got there right when it opened or what.
No chicken 65 or saag paneer that day, kinda sad bout that, but it was ok I guess.
I didn't really go into "Our Place" with any expectations and I wasn't really disappointed or impressed. This is pretty much a run-off-the-mill Indian food restaurant; nothing too extravagant. I thought the food was a tiny bit on the pricey side although that could be because I ordered their "thaali".
On the whole I'd give it a shot if you're in the neighborhood but I wouldn't drive out of my way for it.
Good selection, but was'nt good or bad..more like just ok..nothing id crave...it was decent, loved the spinach paneer...spicy...loved the thandoori, and chicken 65 was good too.. chicken tilka masala wasnt so good, over creamed, milky. Price was high for the Quality..10.95....sorry im indian and cheap lol...

REVISED REVIEW IS ONE STAR. THEY CHARGED MY AMEX $117.00 AMEX CALLED ME TO CONFIRM. I DENIED AND FAXED MY RECEIPT. THEY TOLD ME THAT THIS RESTAURANT IS NOTORIOUS FOR CREDIT CARD FRAUD. STAY AWAY!!!
Decent restaurant, not great, not terrible either, passable. Bengal Coast was much better, but overall a pleasurable experience. If you go at night you can order thali. To save you the trouble of looking it up on wikipedia, a thali is a selection of different dishes, usually served in small bowls on a round tray. The round tray is generally made with steel with multiple compartments. Typical dishes include rice, dal, vegetables, chapati, papad, curd (yoghurt), small amounts of chutney or pickle, and a sweet dish to top. They won't serve this at lunch so I was forced to eat buffet. The buffet is ok, pretty standard stuff. I probably won't drive there to eat, but if I'm in the area and have a hankering for Indian food I'll go there.
Our Place is definitely 'our place' at heart. We've been going to Our Place for a couple years now, and love the food. The mirchi ka salan is so delicious. The vegetable biryani and chicken tikka masala are our other usual staples. We've never had a bad experience. The owner and staff are super nice and remember us every time. - Even to the point of just bringing my chai to me before I even ask for it. :)
The buffet is great, too... 'huge selection, always fresh & tasty.
People who come to this place for the buffet and give it a bad review really need to give the a la carte menu a chance. It's not a buffet restaurant.
Overall, having eaten in most of the desi restaurants in the entire Metroplex multiple times, Our Place is our absolute favorite for the mix of variety and quality. Their mughlai, south Indian, and Indo-Chinese are all excellent, especially the latter two.
They have a very special take on Gobi Manchurian, with a similar flavor to the Chilly Paneer. Both are absolutely delicious. I often joke that it's the "best gobi manchurian in the world," since you probably can't get anything like their recipe anywhere else. :)
Service and ambience are not always the best here, especially if you come during the most crowded times (it can get quite crowded), but I've been there many times and can't think of a time that the food has ever really disappointed... except the buffet!
Huge selection, but nothing memorable. They have selections on the buffet for non-Indian eaters, also. Some of my friends stuck to their Chinese food, but you could definitely get full on some alright Indian food here. Wish they would narrow their selection to really good preparation on a select number of dishes.
Very extensive menu of North and South Indian Cuisine. The food was tasty but I think suffered a bit from quantity over quality. I recommend the south indian dishes more, the dosas and idlis we had were very good. The chutneys weren't the best, a little watery and flavorless.
Good place to bring a large group.
Our Place is one of my must-visit restaurants when I come back home. Their lunch buffet is worth every dime. If you're ordering for dinner, the tikka masala is a personal favorite. They do what they do with delishusssssnessss... and they're not afraid to light your tongue on fire, if you're into that kind of thing (and am I soooo into that kind of thing).
When we used to live in Dallas, the lunch buffet was our permanent stop every weekend. The staff already knew us and knew what to offer us. The buffet is amazing, it has a great selection of both vegetarian and non vegetarian dishes. The taste is awesome. Now that we live in DC we really miss it, specially buffets that big and varied. They also have several desserts which most Indian buffets don't so you get to choose. I highly recommend you give it a try.
I've mostly been here for their lunch buffet and it's OK, nothing to rave about but not bad either. It's located close to where I live so it is very convenient. As for their a la carte, again, nothing to rave about..
