BEST BURGER IN NEW YORK.
These are the best burgers in New York City. They are true
gourmet burgers. They are huge as well. They come with
these delicious waffle fries. You come to this place for the burgers
and that is their specialty.
Like others have said their dining room is very small. But they take reservations for large groups and they have really good service. It's very reasonable priced and you get large portions for the price.
The last time I was there I ordered the scallop special and there was nothing special about it. They were not fresh and it made the pasta that it came with taste funny. Everyone else in my party cleaned their plates and raved about their dishes. Next time I'll be sure to avoid a seafood dish.
A cute SMALL place to grab a casual Italian meal. The =re is also one further downtown at 86th Street. Service is friendly and good here.
Food is prepared to order and good.
A simple nice place. NOT FANCY
Used to live in the neighbourhood and went for a special occasion with my bf. The place is small but they serve great food. I hear they own a butcher shop, too.
We ordered their home made chili which came in a large portion, and simply delicious! Their steak is also good. I will try their burgers next time.
Good times at this place. Their food always hits the spot. I really liked their steaks the first few times I had them way back. Burger was okay to me. I recently went back this past Sunday to try their italian and ordered the chicken parm. What a large pile of chicken. Way too much food for one person. I'm not one to complain though. You get your money's worth and it's delicious! I polished off my whole entree and walked away stuffed like crazy. The place is small but very imtimate. Pleasant and friendly wait service too. My favorite place for dinner in the UES.
Many people have told me that Ottomanelli's was the be-all-and-end-all of burgers on the UES. Sadly, this was not the case - while an undoubtedly tasty burger, it just didn't have the zing and crunch and pizazz of something I want to put in my mouth all the time.
Naughty jokes aside, it's a tasty burger, just nothing astounding.
I have to say I'm very disappointed in my experience here.
Being part of a butcher chain, I expected an exceptional hamburger. What I got was on the poor side of acceptable. The garlic flavor was nice at first, but kind of overwhelming by the end. The waffle fries were quite good, but I felt like they skimped me on them a little.
The service was bewilderingly slow. There weren't very many people in there but it still took the woman forever to do anything.
Lastly, this may seem a small thing, but the menu said "Harney Tea", so I ordered one. Harney is a very good bag-tea. They brought out a mug and a selection of Lipton. Lipton is crap. This is the tea equivalent of them bringing out a McDonalds burger instead of one of theirs. I sent it back, but it didn't stop them from trying to charge me for it.
I haven't had anything else on the menu, but I can't imagine I'll be going back.
I ordered a burger to-go last night. After walking into the restaurant to pickup my food, I found total disorganization. I was told 10 minutes for my burger to be ready but it ended up being more like 25 minutes. There were 2 customers and 8 people working. How do they stay in business? Two of the waitresses were playing games on their phones, which I found unprofessional. Another waitress was stuffing her face full of food in the dining room. WTF??
Back to the food. Once I opened the box I was immediately surprised at how massive the burger was. It was hard to eat and It tasted disgusting. I haven't had such a bad burger in a long time. Heck no, I won't be back.
The burgers are yum and cheap. Perfect hangover treat this Sunday evening. And they deliver!
The first thing I have to say is that the service was excellent! We told our waiter we were starving, so he brought our appetizer salad (which was HUGE!) right away, and it hit the spot! Lots of fresh red cabbage, romaine, shredded carrots, tomatoes, etc with an italian vinaigrette. We also had the grilled calamari appetizer. Unfortunately, it was completely tasteless(!) and rubbery. The waiter gave us a complimentary dish of fantastic, homemade tomato sauce to go with it, so the bland seafood simply became a conduit to eat the delicious sauce! ;-p For my main dish, I had the pork chops which were perfectly done! They were very moist and served with sauteed mushrooms (I could taste the butter.. yum!). I had mixed vegetables as my side dish (instead of mashed potatoes), and they were a lovely blend of zucchini, yellow squash, carrots, and some other fresh veggies. It was a huge(!) plate of them, and they were lightly tossed with butter. Delicious!
Ottomanelli's serves big portions of nicely-prepared, simple foods at great prices. A nice spot for when you're hungry and don't feel like cooking! I would go again if I were in the area, but wouldn't go out of my way to get here since there's nothing particularly unique it. And I have to repeat that the service was excellent!
Something about cheesy upscale diner menus totally do it for me. It's a cute, cozy little den of inequity. Their burgers are soupy, saucy and about the size of your face. Plus, there's a happy familiarity in a weekly washing down of mushroom-onion-bacon-swiss and Jurassic-sized fries with a pint of something hoppy, indelicately nosh on dessert cake following, schlupping home, changing into sweatpants, marathoning a CSI spin-off, and mourning the inevitability of dying alone.
We've passed by this place hundreds of times...never got around to trying it until the family came to visit and wanted a casual meal in the area that: was reasonably priced, would cater to a variety of tastes, had a short wait on a Saturday night, and was baby-friendly. Ottomanelli's to the rescue. Service was friendly and accommodating. The 15-month old loved the clam chowder and french fries, and the 79-year old liked the burger but insisted on sharing it since it is huge! Everyone was satisfied with their food and we all enjoyed the night out. We liked it so much, we've since taken hubby's mom there. In summary: a wonderful cozy neighborhood place.
Good value for money.
My girlfriend and I took the burger which was nice - not amazing. The burgers are priced 6-9$ for 1 pound burgers.
My boyfriend took the lamb chops, 3 for 14$, it was nice, though a bit not cooked on the inside and a bit burnt on the outside.
The place itself is really nice, small rest with good atmosphere. The service was great.
If you are fiending for steak and don't want to break the bank go to...ok let's not go there...
No, really, I live nearby and whenever the mood for steak hits me I order from here. As someone who likes to cook steak at home and has become more snobby over the years about using quality meat (especially if not marinated) it is wonderful to know that Ottamenelli Grill is not only in the neighborhood, but also a practical bargain for what you get.
The NY Strip Steak is a VERY GOOD deal considering how expensive it is to eat at one of the growing number of steakhouses popping up in NYC. It isn't going to wow you like Peter Luger, but 2 orders of the NY strip at Ottomanelli Grill will probably cost you less than 1/3 the price of "Steak for 2" at Luger's with 2 side dishes. I'm not trying to say that the two are comparable in terms of quality product, but you are very likely to be both happy with your meal and not be much poorer.
It's nice that they serve not only quality meat, which is increasingly harder to get, but there are other values. Usually they provide a pretty good but not insanely huge portion of food -- although it has been smaller more often lately, not today as I am eating it now -- which often includes sides of mixed vegetables (typically carrots and zucchini) sauted in butter, along with homemade mashed potatoes.
I've ordered from here several times and usually the food is well prepared. Sometimes the steak needs a little extra salt, or the mashed potatoes need more butter, but frequent any restaurant enough and sometimes you end up lesser quality. The key is to minimize this frequency, and I'd say Ottamenelli Grill does a good job here. Even so, I have been able add those extra ingredients at home and it has only helped.
I've almost always gotten the NY strip steak, but I've had Dr. Eric's hanger steak and while I like the marinade it doesn't seem to be quite as good, and seems more prone to overcooking or undercooking since it's so thin, which may be why I have found it to be somewhat chewy. I've also had their steakburger, which for a while was my top burger to order around here, but with Joy Burger Bar opening it's since been replaced. It's still good, but I feel that you kind of get skimmed on waffle fries, and need to pay for a lot of ingredients to improve the burger.
The actual place is very small, and although I've never eaten there it would be fine for a date, or to bring a small group. I could see children going as well, which may make it less of a date spot. The decor isn't all that, and when folks like me can come in and order to take out (not sure how much that happens) I think it might take away from someone's dinner experience.
Point is if you are in the north end of the Upper East Side and want steak, this is the spot to get your fill.
I was craving a burger and decided to head here for lunch with a friend.
Known for their "off the grill steak burger," I ordered the Wisconsin burger (medium well) which came with cheddar and smoked bacon, and I added crispy onions. It was served with waffle fries.
The meat was delicious, but quite overdone. Next time I'll probably order it medium. It came piled high with yummy crispy onions. The brioche bun was warm and fluffy, and the waffle fries were crispy and cooked just right. Highly recommended!
They also offer salads, pastas, chicken entrees, and steaks, along with other "specialty" burgers and interesting add-ons to the burgers such as roasted peppers, olive tapenade, sherried mushrooms, etc etc.
Cute, neighborhood-y place, glad I found another tasty burger place in the UES!
Really good, no-frills neighbourhood restaurant. The burgers are good value and tasty, and the Iyalian entrees are solidly good as well. Le Cirque this is not (never been to Le Cirque, though, in the interest of full disclosure), but fine casual dining it is.
ottomanelli's is like eating at your grandma's house: everything there tastes good, the lighting is dim and the bathroom never works.
you can literally order anything on the menu with no fear. my favorites: for apps, i like the mozzarella in corroza, which is a playful take on "mozzarella sticks." all of the pastas are amazing, but i will say that the four-cheese pasta didnt stay with me for that long (ie -- it gave me the runs almost immediately).
i think ive tried ever burger and theyre all very tasty -- not the best burgers ive ever had, but certainly better than anything you can find in the neighborhood *cough*parlor*cough.*
as far as a steakhouse goes, you cant really beat otto's. the new york strip and the hangar steak are highly recommended.
I'm pretty happy I live right around the corner from Ottomanelli's because I'll get to keep on trying their extensive menu of delicious food. Their fries are very yummy and they over popcorn shrimp on everything and its pretty good. I only give them 4 stars because the grilled calamari left a bit to be desired and I don't love their caeser dressing. That said I want to go back and try more soon!
EDIT- I recently got take out from here- and I'm upgrading them to 5 stars for their incredily reasonable prices ($20 for a huge pasta entree and a burger) and how good the Eggplant Parm was!
I am shocked that I have not written a review of this place. Maybe it is because I am trying to keep it a secret. I practically live there! The food is great, the proportions are huge, and the prices are unbelievable. Like $12 unbelievable. Usually I share and sometimes we still have extra food to take home. Ridiculous! Avoid the sharing charge by ordering an appetizer. I have tried half the menu and love it all. Plus all their "fun" drinks are $6 (martinis, cosmos and margaritas). I love it!
Excellent burgers, excellent desserts! Big portions for decent prices in Manhattan, now that's what I'm talking about!
Beware of really greasy waffle fries.
I had the VIP burger and tiramisu. Juicy burger; they certainly don't skim on the portions.
I would not have discovered this place if a friend did not recommend it. They should really vamp up their menus though -- paper menus? They can do better than that.
A little cramped, but great food and even better prices. A juicy burger with bacon, cheese and awesome fries: under $9? What? Great pasta dishes, too. Big servings.
The burgers are good, and the waffle fries are great. They also have really good dessert (the tiramisu and the chocolate cake are my favorite). Definitely a filling meal for around $30 (for 2 people).
Just dined in here for the first time and it's amazing what they do with this tiny place. Surprisingly nice setting, delicious food, amazing prices. Got an entree, salad and dessert for 36 bucks. I've always gotten takeout burgers from here (in my opinion the best in the UES) so it's great to know they do just about everything well.
I definitely recommend the blackened salmon special, burgers, tiramisu.
Good for a casual date. Just wish they'd class up those menus--looks too much like Applebee's for a place this good!
Besides the great italian cuisine and huge portions AND low prices, this restaurant has the best burgers I have tasted in New York. I have eaten burgers at places that are ranked in New York and those places are not as good.
Though this is not an extremely romantic restaurant, it has a quaint and homey feel that is great for a non-first date. If you live in this area and have not tried this place then you should change that immediately.
Burp!
this place has an amazing burger and pretty good steaks. the other items on the menu are pretty solid but variety is not why you go to ottomanelli's. the red meat is delicious and you cannot beat the value.
Stumbled into Ottomanelli after a show @ the Y. Pleasant surprise. Nice service. Good meats... will go back if in the area in the future. But I'm not in the UES that often.
I was uptown running errands today and met a colleague for lunch. For excellent food, fantastic prices and change in pace from the rest of the uptown pasta barns and strip houses this is just it! To start I had the Pecan Chicken Salad with organic mixed greens, goat cheese, toasted pecans etc, etc. Then I cut into a delicious Prime N.Y. Sirloin cooked rare with mashed potatoes and mixed vegetables. With drinks my tab was under 40 bucks!!! Great place for lunch if you are uptown!
