Review Highlights
I used to get my negs and slides scanned from Newlab -- which is pretty good -- but they don't do BW. That's how I got to know of Oscar's.
These days I get all my processing and scans done here. It's cheaper too. And I've never had an issue. The staff's very friendly too.
Took some film to be scanned as they are close to my work, and I had been recommended to my by co-workers.
I had a couple of rolls of cross processed negatives that I needed to have rescanned, as the first place I took them scanned at too low a resolution, and didnt do a great job.
Oscars was friendly, and very helpful, and went out of the way to help me out. They promised the scans in two days, and turned them around in one. Best of all, the scans were significantly better (and higher resolution) than I had had done before.
Giving 4 stars right now, until I get some film developed there (which I am doing tomorrow). Great place, they know their stuff.
They have 5 minute parking out front also.
Why didn't I find them years ago!!!
Fast service, professional, and friendly.
The best.
They did a big B&W traditional blow-up including some touching up and it was fine. This seems like a very well managed, friendly and family-owned place. We talked about photography a bit. Prices reasonable. I would go back again.
They don't serve burritos, though; it's a photo lab.
I used to have my b&w developed at Gamma SF on Clementina but wasn't too happy with some of their work (the negatives were returned quite dusty and made scanning them more of a chore than it already is). I since then discovered Oscar's photolab on Brannan st and I haven't used anyone else for my b&w work since then.
Super friendly staff and I normally pick up my negatives and contact sheet on Saturdays. I have had a few digital files printed there as well and they all came out very, very nicely.
Go Oscar's :)
These folks are very good. After other labs lost my film (!) or overcharged me--thanks, Newlab!--I found Oscars.
They've been close to perfect. They did mess up one thing: the staff didn't follow written order. But it was pretty minimal (though unfixable).
And they're nice and helpful. They get my business.
i had a last minute print job on a friday and needed the prints by sunday... they were great with a fast turnaround. it was easy to upload to the FTP site.
I've been going to Oscar's for years. It's a family run business and when you walk in you are treated like family. There have been numerous times that the guys have pulled threw for me either on my mistake, theirs or a clients. The work is consistent, timely and the prices aren't crazy.
These guys are awesome. Small lab that gets it done right...and for the right price. Need one day turn around? They'll do it if you ask nice. Nice people, great work, great prices, and free 5 minute parking in front while you drop off/pick up. I will never go anywhere else in SF again.
I've only been to Oscar's a few times to have my E6 slides processed and scanned. The service is absolutely top notch, best in the city. Scans are high quality with an index print on the CD cover. I will definitely be visiting for some custom digital printing.
For professional-quality photo prints in San Francisco, this is the place to go. With digital images, they have a ZBE Chromira processor and a knowlegeable staff able to handle the most demanding requirements, such as ICC color profiles and high-resolution enlargements of panoramas, plus FTP uploads of TIF files. Very modest prices (for this quality), reasonable turnaround, and great folks to deal with. For comparable results, you might go to NewLab or Dmax Imaging, but you'd pay considerably more.
The location I went to is 790 Brannan Street. x 7th. Great service. Made prints just in time for a deadline. Friendly service. Also open Saturdays 10-1.
Great lab with friendly staff. Prices seem very fair for the quality of the work. I've used Oscars for making contact sheets of B&W work, scanning, and large prints, and they do all it all very well (and they are very fast too).
it's hard to find a good lab in town that will develop b&w negatives or make optical prints... this place does a solid job. excellent b&w printing.
oscar's is one of the few places in the city that processes 120 medium format film. i've only had color negatives and transparencies done there and they did a good job and didn't cost an arm and a leg. also they're open on saturdays which's a plus.
they did a good job on my b+w, very friendly staff. like a jackass i changed my order over the phone later, after i had already gone in, but they accomodated it no problem.
