I can sum up this place with one word...Scary!! I just can't recommend, when walking in your greeted with funky smells and it desperately needs a refresh on the whole restaurant... it's old and looks like nothing has been cleaned or changed in years.
The servers were not very friendly and short, the buffet looked terrible, dried out old food, and a lot of questionable seafood... it was like playing Russian Roulette with each bite, which bite could end you!!
The bad reviews are accurate here
Years ago this place used to be much better, but now it's really gone downhill
And the kicker was $20 per person for dinner.... yea it will be a no from meHelpful 21Thanks 0Love this 16Oh no 0 - Jun 5, 2018
This used to be our usual spot for every party or get together but we took a break since the quality of food and service weren't so great. However, our dining experience from last night was phenomenal. AYCE $16.99 dinner and $8.99 lunch on weekdays and $9.99 weekends. Very competitive prices.
I would like to give a shout out to our super attentive and polite waiter (Un Cheung) I think that's how you spell his name. Anyhow, he was fantastic from the start to the end of our evening. He constantly checked on us and made sure to clear our used plates and brought us new ones every so often.
Next is the fresh snow crab legs that my entire family enjoyed for a whole hour and a half. They were so fresh and perfectly seasoned, I made some salt and pepper with lemon as dipping sauce and it was just perfect pairing. The salted fried crabs as well as other seafood dishes, such as steamed clams and seabass, fried squid were also delicious. I also enjoyed the sweet buns and stick rice as well as the coffee and lime cakes for dessert.
Im so glad we gave Osaka buffet another chance and they did not disappoint us at all with the cleanliness and quality of food, especially with the great service our waiter had delivered. We will definitely be back more often from now on.Helpful 5Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Kylee S.Jacksonville, FL2043Aug 23, 2021
I'm going to be honest, I've grown up going to this buffet so I know it's potential!
When I tell you I was BEYOND disappointed to see they were all out of crab legs and then even more confused when I went to get my food and saw that they're trying to charge 59.99? For Crab legs... I was upset, I get the usual mark up, I respect the hustle of these businesses staying afloat and all, but I then got seriously ill after eating her last; I went with 2 others who also got violently ill. The 2 stars was for the wait stuff, if not for them I'd be giving one and saying I wish it could be a 0, so courteous and so quick too(they left a pitcher of mtn dew at our table as we were the only ones drinking it and my party was very thirsty)
All in all I'd say the food isn't worth the price point or the illness you may endure afterwards, that's just my opinionHelpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Elani P.Jacksonville, FL043Aug 23, 2021
The food is cold, dry and all around not good, and even though the restaurant has multiple other tables filled with people, the staff has been starting at our table ( the only black people) and rushed to give us our check even though there have been people here longer than us and they have yet to get theirs. As someone who never leaves reviews, TAKE THIS AS YOUR RED FLAG AND RUN!

This is my favorite Asian and sushi buffet in all of JAX! We've celebrated many occasions with family here including today's birthday celebrations for my parents who are 81 and 82 years old! Linda the owner is a great hostess and makes everyone feel like a regular! Cindy is our go to waitress and is always prompt, attentive and quick to get our drinks (always correct I might add) as well as whatever we need.
There are several buffet stations including the main entree station with many delicacies including my favorites all you can eat snow crab legs, roasted duck - all delicious. I make a bunch of trips to their sushi station which has sashimi (tuna, salmon) and plenty of various roll sushi- very tasty! In addition, there's a great Mongolian bbq station, soups like wonton, egg drop, as well as many desserts including my favorite macaroons with several flavors of delicious ice cream!
Give Osakas a try - you will be delighted!!Helpful 8Thanks 0Love this 7Oh no 0 - Feb 15, 2016
Went to this place on Valentine's Day and apparently a lot of other people had the same idea. A Chinese buffet is not supposed to be fine dining so this one certainly did not disappoint in that fashion.
What you see when you walk in the door is tables full of people with their plates piled high from discarded broken crab leg shells. You would think that they weren't going to have anymore the way some people piled their plates up with those things. No mind you there is a line to get the crab legs when it's that crowded and they really couldn't keep the bin full. They did their best bringing out a new batch every five minutes or so.
Did not try the Mongolian section where you pick your own and they cook it for you. I tried several varieties of sushi and other than being very heavy on the rice it was decent. It was so crowded than nothing set out for more than a few minutes.
The egg drop soup was good, the crab legs were very flavorful, the sautéed shrimp dish with onions and peppers I don't know the name of it but it was surprisingly tasty it was much like Scampi.
I didn't try the ice cream at there were like eight buckets of it. The desserts are all those same ones that they have everywhere that I'm sure come in frozen but they had this pink strawberry flavored cake with this gelatinous, very thin glaze over the top it looked like it was going to be terrible but it was really pretty good.
The pepper steak was so chewy that I couldn't chew it and had to spit it out it was like eating a shoe. Tasty shoe, but still a shoe.
I have been here several times in the past both at lunch and it dinner and I can't say that it was ever bad. Are some really bad Chinese buffets in Jacksonville but this is definitely not one of them.
As long as you go when it's busy so that the food is turned over very quickly you're getting at least the same quality that you would get any Chinese takeout. I did not visit the restrooms but the floor was pretty clean and despite the chaos the workers smiled and passed by regularly.Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Paul B.Jacksonville, FL025Dec 13, 2021Updated review
Osaka is now OSUCKA! Went there yesterday, the salmon smelled like
and tasted like garbage. Clams were tasteless and rubbery. Overall,
food quality has deteriorated perhaps because Osaka will close
forever on December 31st.
I suspect the owner is "cleaning out" the refrigerator and may be
serving items that are passed their expiration dates.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Oct 13, 2021Previous reviewThe service remains excellent as always, but food selection has declined.
No more clams, hard boiled eggs and ice cream. The quality is not what
it used to be. Dinner is horribly over-priced at $19! Not worth it.
Go to Orange Buffet instead on Blanding Boulevard in Orange Park.Jun 29, 2018Previous reviewOsaka is in Mandarin, not Southside.

Well.... I came back. The food wasn't bad but there was a pretty obvious drop in quality; also, the prices went up! If you're going to raise your prices, at least raise the food quality too.
All good things must come to an end...Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Aug 7, 2019Previous reviewMy favorite Japanese buffet around the area. Far from the best in the state, but still very delicious.

Tried it for Sunday lunch. Food was hot and constantly switched out. Servers and kitchen staff not overly friendly or attentive. Freezer broken and had to ask server for ice cream. It was served in a small dressing container
Cannot believe how rude people are at a buffet.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jad S.Greenland, Jacksonville, FL31310Aug 17, 2019
To be honest their food used to be really good and then it has just went downhill from there. Like sushi there is not that good anymore, like the rice doesn't have that soft and savory flavor and has a crusty type of feel to it. And the cooker there that you give your noodles and etc. is not the same as the other guy and it doesn't have the good sweet and salty flavor to it. And me and my family have to not go there again until they make their food good again. Best of luck!
