Neighborhoods: Union Square, Nob HillOkay I just got my braces off today and I'm forever smiling =D; only took a few months short of 2 years!
The process of payment was easy.. like one review said, they're very instructive and they'll recommend what best for you (braces, invisilign...etc.)
for me, i go to school far from home so i come back only every so often, not every month.. but the recommended visit for braces is for every month... so even with my lack of consistency due to schooling, i was able to take them off less in less than two years.. now that either implies that i've been good sticking with their regimes such as wearing my rubberbands.. or that it could be that they're just that good... which i think is the majority of the reason..they have a very good reputation, most of the people i've known who have had braces, came to this one or some other one... so this is one of the best offices out there in the city.
yea, they're busy and booked but they've always found time for me, scheduling around my breaks so i really never had problems with scheduling.
also, their staff especially Dr. Lam and Pamela are especially friendly and treat you as a personal patient.. even though i visit the office less often than i should, they still manage to ask me questions concerning my last visit... so the fact that they try to make everyone's visit more intimate by remembering personal tidbits is a plus..
everyone is polite and nice, no grumpy workers here. well, there shouldn't be any anyway if their goal is to make us smile =)
highly recommend this place! =D
They are a pair of orthodontic scam artists. My family and I sought their services when I was 16. A youngin like me concerned deeply about vanity, I wanted braces to correct a minor if not non-existent indentation in my upper front teeth. The dent held no danger to my oral functions and you could barely see it unless I pointed it out and were eyeballing it an inch from my face. I asked if the corrections would be permanent. The pair of liars said yes but the results today prove otherwise; after a few years, my teeth are just the same as they were before the procedure. What's worse is they convinced gulliable people like my family and I to buy addtional services that I never needed or wanted. Coming from a working class family that barely scrapes by, this infuriates me.
So far...not good. This whole Invisalign process with this office is completely stressful. They are ALWAYS booked up if you ever try to change an appointment so I have to wait an extra week. They put some kind of glue on my teeth and I'm afraid it won't come off easily, if at all. I'm really disappointed with the treatment so far, but I'll add more details over time...
I had braces for the first time in 1994. That was when the practice was only Tomer and Shen. It was the place to have your teeth straightened. All my cousins and three of my sibling had their teeth straightened here. At that time, Orthoworks paid close attention to their work and remembered their clients by name. I loved coming here because everyone was always so cheery (even at 7am). I'm a nerd but I LOVED, LOVED, LOVED changing the color of my rubberbands according to the holiday of the month (i.e. orange and black for Halloween). Haha.
Fast forward to 2003. I had braces for the second time because my wisdom teeth grew out and shifted all my teeth. Orthoworks consisted of Tomer, Shen and some other guy. It seemed to me that business had expanded and the orthos didn't seem as attentive as they once were. Nonetheless, they were nice and even gave me the invisiline retainers instead of the wire ones at no charge because they knew I had a bad history of never wearing my retainers. I thought that was super thoughtful.
It's 2008. I am positive I need braces AGAIN. I did not listen to Dr. Shen. They did everything in their power to encourage me to wear my retainers. Now I have crooked teeth and gaps between my teeth because of all the teeth shifting. If I were to get braces again, I probably would come back but not to the busy SF office on Sutter Street (mostly due to parking). I guess I have developed a childhood loyalty to my orthodontist! Haha!
**Note: My brother and two sisters still have impeccably straight smiles!
Minus one star because the price of braces nearly doubled in 2003 as compared to 1994. That's inflation for ya!
I had braces when I was a teen, but didn't wear my retainer - so my teeth slowly have moved back to a bit crooked. It's not bad, but made worse with me my nightly teeth grinding. My girlfriend has the super metal braces - like Ugly Betty - and I decided Invisalign was the only way to go. So, I got them a few days ago from Orthoworx - and while they make me lisp a little - they seem to be working.
These folks work out a payment plan, explain all your options, and are very instructive. They have the system down pat, efficient and get the job done well. My advice for anyone getting braces is to go to www.dentakit.com and check out their accessories - they'll make your life in braces easier - whether you have the old fashion metal braces or the invisalign kind. Also, for adults and braces - there is a sister website - called www.archwired.com - good forum for braces.
fer now - I'm buck toothed :-B, but in about 1.5 years - I'll be BeeeUtiful.

Wow. Just when you thought you could never want to hug dentists.
Amazing staff. Friendly environment. Really, really helpful in almost all areas of care. I actually enjoy seeing them. With smiles all around me, I can't help but smile too.
Drs Tomer, Shen & Lam are the greatest! I saw Shen & Lam exclusively when I had my braces. They have mulitple offices and very flexible hours. My niece sees Dr. Shen around 7:00 AM right before school.
Staff is friendly and service is excellent. Also, their prices are reasonable. I've seen other orthodontists ask for more.

I am absolutely in debt to the team of Orthodontists at this office. I saw them for over a year for my Invisaligns. The office staff is extremely professional and flexible. They made the process of correcting my teeth as painless as possible. If anyone is thinking of getting braces or Invisaligns..I highly recommend paying them a visit.

Yeah, these guys are cool. They are very professional and friendly and agreed to see me even though I didn't have an appointment. They are also available pretty late (6 PM) for those of us who have hourly corporate jobs and can't be taking time off to go hang out at the dentists' office.
On a separate note, they have an amazing selection of magazines about motorhomes, interior design, and parenting. Also a lot about San Jose. I don't think i am their target demographic. Oh well, they treat me pretty well nonetheless.

let's just say they decided that pulling out 6 teeth would give my teeth enough room for the braces to make it straight... but after 2 long years of braces, i have gaps ;( i need fake teeth now..
CrAzy Tomer messed up the polishing for my teeth, it doesn't even look nice!!! I wish she ha dput more effort into it.
