You know what I love about Oren's? Everything.
-Pastries from Balthazar
-Fresh (and many different assortments) of coffee beans
-Very VERY yummy teas (I opt for the iced peach tea...so delish and refreshing, especially when hung over)
-Somewhat-friendly staff (this is why I doc'd a star)
-Cool mugs and coffee accessories to purchase
Love you Oren's. -

Solid coffee purveyer to get your caffeine jolt. Basically, a mini chain version of Starbucks as they have around 8 or 9 locations in the city. But the difference at this location is you won't find a horde of people hogging tables and chairs for hours using their computers. It is a small shop with only a little counter space by the window to stop and drink your brew. But that is ok as this is basically a grab and go type of place.
They have decent regular brewed or flavored coffees each day. I had the chocolate hazelnut which was good. A cup will cost you about $2. Really nice selection of different coffee beans to choose from. Cookies and snacks too. Also sells coffee makers, cups, accessories. Not a bad place overall. Baristas are friendly, shop is clean, and there is never much of a wait.Listed in: Caffeine Jolt!

I stumbled upon this coffee shop this morning and was quite delighted with the results. I had a cappuccino with some cinnamon sprinkled on top and it was definitely much better than my standard Starbucks fix (which always leave me a little disappointed, but I live on 31st & 3rd so my coffee options are really quite limited).

Just moved from Seattle and have been trying the coffee houses around town. Orens is the best coffee in NYC by far.

Oren's coffee is in fact THE BEST IN NYC! Smooth, rich and flavorful without the bitter, acidic aftertaste. We are talking quality here people. You may not get a donut with pink frosting and sprinkles, but you will get an excellent cup of coffee which is not merely meant to be endured, because it's the closet cup of coffee to the subway stop. You will, in fact, get a warm cup of satisfaction meant to be savored and enjoyed. I drink Oren's coffee every morning and it is well worth waking up for. I can feel the last vestiges of sleep slipping away with each sip. (Although this amount of caffeinated enjoyment does make getting out of my chair and preparing for work more difficult.)
The service at Oren's is always friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. They make great recommendations. My favorite is the Ethopian Yrgacheffe. Organic and fair trade coffees are also available. The beans are ground specific to your favorite brewing method, and they will even grind cracked cinnamon with the beans! I highly recommend this.
For those of you, like me, who don't normally care for flavored coffees, Oren's has some great choices when you have to make that compromise with the less sophisticated coffee drinker. Chocolate Raspberry is usually a safe bet and of course there is always Hazelnut. -

Ice Americano 32oz - $3.95
Considering how people are loving this place, I think something went wrong when they made my coffee.
It was the worst Cafe Americano I've ever had.
It tasted like someone made the coffee out of a very old Maxwell can.
It tasted like ash, old, not dark, just bitter... wrong all kinds of way.
Being a coffee frenetic, I usually finish coffee regardless.
But this time I had about 4 oz, and had to trash it. -

Oh, Oren's. You remind me of my NYU days when I'd visit you every day before class, and now that you're 5 minutes from my job, I visit you out of nostalgia and need for a delicious afternoon pick-me-up.
I wouldn't say Oren's has the best coffee I've ever tasted, but the flavored varieties (which change daily) are smooth and tasty. The baristas are friendly, efficient, hipster-types, and the store is large enough to have a few tables where you could have your coffee to stay.
I'm curious about the iced coffee, though. I ordered it last week and it was SO sweet. And I don't think I ordered it sweetened..... -

This location is not large, there are only two window-facing seats for customers. But unlike every Starbucks I've ever set foot in, the wait at this Oren's never surpasses 2 minutes. The coffee is strong but not overwhelmingly so. The cookies are smallish but delicious - I like the chocolate peanut butter & the chocolate chunk. They are only fifty cents apiece.

If I put the money in the bank every morning instead of getting a "gup ah goffee" I may retire early. Just kidding the Coffee is perfect. I usually get a cup of coffee and an Oat scone (Baltazar).
They also have a great selection of beans if your that sassy.
Its pretty low key and hardley any lines with a great product. "In and out" -

This is probably how Starbucks started out. Oren's is a Manhattan-based chain (9 stores in total) that roasts its own coffee and appears to know what it's talking about. I got lucky with a barista who knew what a flat white was, my usual drink when in Australia. The final product was fine though nothing special, but at least they were willing to make me exactly what I wanted.
Everywhere I looked I was reminded of Starbucks: easy listening music, flavored syrups and iced mochaccinos, same timber décor, Oren's mugs and Bodum plungers for sale. They serve something called a "shot in the dark" which is drip coffee fortified with espresso. I find that objectionable on a couple of levels but they insisted it was good. I'll have to take their word for it.
Oren's primary product is specialty roasted coffee beans. I can't rate the beans on their own, but a quick scan of the choices didn't fill me with confidence: Tanzania Peaberry and Jamaica Blue Mountain give way to Vanilla, Chocolate and Hazelnut. Flavoring your latte is bad enough (just order a damn milkshake) but flavoring your coffee beans when you roast them? I can only conclude they weren't very good beans to start with.
The cafe outlet lacks personality or charm but offers lots of product choice; plus there's a willingness to make your coffee however you like it, no matter how far removed from coffee it then becomes. For me it feels too much like a chain, and for everyone else... well, Starbucks has more comfortable chairs and wifi.

Not sure how much value this will add since I drink standard brewed coffee black, no sugar. But I will gladly walk several blocks out of my way for Oren's coffee, which is typically a bit bolder and stronger than most of the coffee I find elsewhere. As an added bonus, I don't think I've ever waited longer than a minute for my coffee.

This is some pricey ass java. I can't believe my small latte cost me almost $5! The coffee isn't the greatest- it almost taste burnt to me.. but for some odd reason its popular, i don't get it... same thing with Starbucks- coffee tastes burnt. I guess burnt coffee is the new "in" thing.

Get your quality roast here! Tasty coffee and nice bean selection without having to order a venti or grande or give your name. Skip the starbucks and grab your cup of joe here. Or have one of their bean experts help you choose a pound to go.

oren is that really hot indie jewish boy that is a little older than most students at college because right after high school he went on a safari. his thick framed glasses pose as a counterpoint to the stubble on his chin perfectly and his jet black hair is sticking out in all the right places under his fedora hat.. and you can totally tell his body is a rock under his flannel shirt. yum.
ithinkiloveyouletmehaveyourbabies....is what i almost word vomit every time i see oren...
this is what would happen if oren was a man and not a coffee house.
so basically it is safe to assume my nuptials with starbucks are completely null and void now that i am engaged to oren. he is the man of my dreams.
the coffee is so freakin unbelievably good (x10 more stars for the cinnamon flavor) AND they serve soy as a creamer option with no extra charge.
oh oren, you make me want to la la in the kitchen on the floor.Listed in: Living fabulous

Oren's does retail right. The core product is excellent, ordering is uncomplicated and they've got just the right number of ancillary products to make the shop warm and welcoming without making you feel like you're in a souvenir shop. Well worth a visit.

PLEASE, I'm begging you! DON'T tell the boys at Stumptown that sometimes, when I have a craving and don't feel like wandering too far from home...I cheat on them. It won't last, I swear. The coffee is good but not even convenience, quality and great service can keep me from my hometown heroes for too long.

Consistently good coffee every time. I walk in with my caffeine withdrawal starting to kick in, ready to bite someones head off. I walk out smiling enjoying a cup of java a million times better than Starbucks. The employees are cooler and friendlier too, and its cheaper. If only it was on the way on my walk 2 the train in the morning :(

Not a big fan -- prefer Brazil Coffee House instead. Hours, coffee, price, seating and staff are all better.

This is the greatest coffee EVER!!! My roommate and I have tried other coffees and we keep coming back to Oren's. It's flavor and aroma make me happier the moment I smell the bag before brewing even begins. It would be nice if their cafe was more inviting, like a lounge environment.

Nothing fancy here, just great coffee with fast and friendly service. They feature a different roast each day, and I've never had a bad one.
