On a recent trek through San Antonio, my lunch-buddy and I tried to find lunch by randomly searching the area for interesting looking restaurants. We made  a couple of random stops - one asian/sushi place (too pricey), and a cafe that turned out to be tex-mex (which we'd had enough of that week) - and then saw a sign for Orderup - which upon entering the establishment seemed to be "just-right" in a very Goldilocks kind of way.

Orderup bills itself as a "Pizzeria, Taqueria, Burgeria". Ok I think they made up the word, "burgeria", but you get the point. The menu is pretty simple - Burgers, Tacos (chicken, steak & fish) and Pizza (9-inch thin crust). Veggie options are offered as well. About 20 different toppings are available for your pizza/taco/burger (0.25 each). There's also a couple of salads. Sides include chips & salsa and french fries.

I tried a burger ($4.95) with swiss, grilled mushrooms and onions.  This has to be one of the better hamburgers I've had in a long long time. Very tasty. The burger was a good size with a tasty bun. Apparently they always use fresh ground beef (never frozen), hand pressed.  The french fries were fresh cut and downright delicious.  I also tried an"Ice Shake" ($2.95) which is kinda halfway between a slushie and a milkshake.  The staff told me they make thier own icecream for the shakes.  The result was interesting and tasty, but a little too sweet.

My lunch-buddy tried the Orderup Salad w/ chicken and she seemed pretty happy with it. Her only complaint was the lack of cucumbers as a topping option. She also got a "CH2 Cookie" which the counter person claimed to be the best chocolate chip cooke ever. It was thick and just slightly doughy. Damn good, but the best ever? The jury's still out on that one.

So if you're driving on I-10 in San Antonio around the Colonnade (Wurzbach exit) stop in and give Orderup a try.
