Wife and I came here for a mini celebration.  Of course everyone raves about the views, so I won't go much more into that other than saying "wow".  The place seems to have been renovated in the past few years at it looks more modern than what I expected.  Definitely a more upscale atmosphere.  Service is extremely friendly and very precise.

The food was the best surprise for my wife, and an ok experience for myself.  We started with the calamari (good - but how can you go wrong with calamari).  Also, at this point I would like to point out that there bread and pesto is also REALLY good, so you may not want to get an appetizer if you want to save some room for the meal.  She had the salmon special, which was superb!!! It is very hard to make truly unique and outstanding salmon, but they nailed it!  The flavors explode on the palate, and the fish was nice and moist (how do I know? - because I sneaked some when she went to the bathroom).

I got the halibut because I wasn't starving, and I have to admit it wasn't as good as the salmon (I hate it when she orders a better meal than me!!).  It was dry and didn't have the flavor that the salmon had.

For desert we got the mud pie, which again, how can you go wrong with mud pie!  To make sure they couldn't get it wrong we asked for extra hot fudge, so I really can't be impartial with the review on dessert.

One last item, I looked at their Happy Hour and I will definitely come back to try that out.  The prices are more than reasonable, and you can sit out back with the amazing views and your own fire pit!!!

Overall: Excellent but pricey food, subpar service, but a great view.

    1) Atmosphere: Very nice.  I like the setting of the restaurant.  It's fine dining, and it's perched on top of a hill so you get a great view of the city.  I went at 7:00pm on a Sunday, and the traffic was light.  It was a nice, calm evening.
    +1 star

    2) Service: Poor.  The guy helping us seemed like he'd rather be doing something else.  We had to ask for water three different times, and he forgot a part of our order.  Not nearly up to par with the atmosphere and quality of food.
    -1 star

    3) Food/Beverage Quality: Excellent.  We had the ahi appetizer and it was delectable.  We also shared a couple bottles of merlot, which was pleasant.  For my entree, I had the sea bass, and it was one of, if not the, best fish I've ever had in my life.  Literally melted in my mouth.  And the chocolate-covered strawberries were delicious as well.  Outstanding.
    +2 stars

    4) Food/Beverage Variety: Not so great.  Though I expect this at fine dining places.  The menu is only two pages, and so there's not a whole lot of variety.  Not much else to say.
    Neutral grade

    5) Price: A bit steep.  But I'll let them slide since it's a fine dining restaurant, and it's only expected.  Plus, since the food was so good, it stands to reason that it's got to have a higher price tag.
    Neutral grade

Overall: A nice place to go to for a celebration once in a blue moon.  The view and food are excellent, but the service not so much.  If we had an excellent waiter/waitress, then I would be raving about this place.  Unfortunately, that wasn't the case.
    Grade: 3 stars

I just got from sunday buffet brunch.

    The good:
    The view
The atmosphere of the actual place
The feeling you get when you cross under those gates
    The bottomless mimosas

    The bad:
    Service without a smile.
    - A simple question such as excuse me, where is the bathroom? Isnt deserving fo a standoff-ish pointing and looking in another direction with a snarky tone.
    - the bugs flying everywhere
    - The Chicken was dry
    - The salmon was too creamy to trust
    - The bacon was unevenly cooked - I didnt see gloves as he was reorganizing the bacon to fit in the tray better
    - The bussers spilling waters on us and breaking glasses
    - The fact that there was a group of us seated in the corner and mostly ignored.
    - The lack of umbrellas for us. It was a sunny day. There were more umbrellas int he cabinet behind us. However when a slightly larger party came by, they moved all the umbrellas for them and blocked the walkway just to accomodate for other guests. We moved our one umbrella to better suit all 7 of us.
    - It said gratuity is added on groups of 8 or more. There were 7 of us. You charged us gratuity anyways.
    - The fact that it took forever to remove our older plates
    - We didnt have an option to valet. which was a 3.50 flat rate. it wasnt like we had any other option to park. we were at the top of a hill.

    The mediocre:
    The food
The service outside and the speed of it in the beginning of the meal
The crowd - people are very unaware that they are in the way. creating a  line where the stairs tot he outside patio is neither efficient nor eye pleasing.
    Deserts
    Coffee

I honestly dont know if i would spend that much on such a mediocre meal and mediocre service.

This is part of the Specialty Restaurants Corporation.  Apparently the theme at all of their locations is the same:
    1) On a hill top with a beautiful view
    2) Mediocre to tasteless food
    3) Watered down drinks
    4) Service is average
    5) Reservations are spotty (the most recent one was non-existent)

I never realized that Orange Hill Restaurant, Castaway Restaurant & Monterey Hill Steak & Seafood Restaurant are all owned by the same company.  If I had, I would've vehemently told my cousin to go fly a kite & made a reservation for my Aunt's 60th birthday elsewhere.

My cousin said they like the view & that my Aunt likes the seafood.  Okay, so I guess her fish was fine.  But let's just start from the beginning on my personal experience with boytoy at my Aunt's dinner party.

My cousin called a month in advance to make a reservation for April 14th for 10 people at 6 p.m.  There is no Open Table reservation.  You have to call in.  Not a problem.  The problem is, my cousin didn't get the name of the yahoo who supposedly took our reservation call.

2 weeks later, I'm at Costco & boytoy happened to be browsing the gift certificates section and called me over.  They had Specialty Restaurants gift certificates ($80 for $100 worth).  WOO HOO!  Orange Hill is on here!  I grabbed $400 worth for $320 (instant $80 savings KA-CHING!)!

Boytoy, my mom & I arrive 15 minutes early for the dinner.  When I check-in with the hostess, she tells me there is no reservation under my cousin's name, my aunt's name, nothing for 10 people at 6 p.m.  The hostess even tried to blame my cousin saying maybe she reserved it at the Orange County Mining Co?  As if we don't know where we reserved a 60th Birthday Party!  ARGH!  I was calling my cousin on the phone and it was getting heated as she confirmed the number she called was the one for Orange Hill - I mean they were almost there WITH my Aunt in their car for her big birthday party!

Finally I decided to ask the hostess, "Uh, do you have room to seat 9 people at 6 p.m.?"  She checked and said, "Yes we do."

    (silence)

Really?  REALLY?  Could you not have just apologized for the oversight on the idiot employee a month ago who messed up our reservation & then assure me that they could accommodate our family without a problem instead of getting me & my cousin all amped up on the phone?  Was it fun for her to hear me calling & speaking with my cousin thinking our b'day dinner for my Aunt was ruined?

Anyway, I told the hostess that the 3 of us would wait for the rest of the party at the bar.  We proceeded to get seated with an amazing view of OC with a sunset in the background.  Boytoy ordered an Old Fashioned.  I ordered a Manhattan.  The drinks arrived so watered down we were drinking whiskey colored water.  BLEH!

We ordered the calamari & the Orange Hill Sampler Plate - the best things I ate that night besides my salad.  Well I heard the comp'd potato chips with the alcohol was delicious but I abstained from partaking in that.

I started with a "Chopped Vegetable Salad" that had asparagus, avocado, green beans, tomatoes, crisp potatoes with a dijon vinaigrette.  This was TASTY!  I should've just ordered 2 of these for my meal instead of the prime rib.

I ordered the medium rare prime rib - came out medium well.  Boy toy ordered the petite filet mignon also medium rare - came out well done.  I thought this was a seafood & steak restaurant.

The rest of the family members ordered either seabass, mahi mahi, filet or the prime rib.  The fish came out done properly & tasty (thank goodness my birthday Aunt, Uncle & Mother ordered these - at least some people had decent food to eat).  My cousin's & her boyfriend's steaks came out over done as well.

The desserts were just okay (Kahlua cheesecake, Mud Pie, Creme brulee & Chocolate lava cake).

Considering my cousin & I forked out over $500 and all I liked were the appetizers & the salad, I couldn't believe the money we spent.  But the company was good, the liquor sucked & the view was nice.

I don't even think Happy Hour is worth it unless you ordered bottled beer as our rye whiskey based cocktails were totally watered down.

Why didn't I give this a 1-star?  Because my Aunt said her fish was good & she had a good time.  Plus, I got her a birthday card where the 4 kids (me, boytoy, cousin & her b/f) sang to her..."Do your boobs hang low?  Do they wobble to & fro?  Can you tie them in a knot?  Can you tie them in a bow? Can you throw them o'er your shoulder like a Continental Soldier?  Do your boobs hang low?"

Uh, swap out "boobs" for "ears" and then the kiddie song might be more familiar to ya'll.  *grin*

So I read most of the reviews on here both bad and good. To be honest when it's good people really get into detail about as to why and what makes it good and great. Then there are those who rate 3 stars and below, I'm not saying all of the people, but the majority would be very quick and prompt to rate low and complain about small things. It makes me very hesitant about coming here. But I eventually did, now I must admit it's a little bit on the pricey side, however the food is better than most and I guess it depends on who serves you. People who complain about waiting 45 minutes to get a table, there must have been a reason as to why. Anyways I feel that people should rate businesses when it's good, and the bad ones don't deserve to be rated if you plan to rate it 2 stars and below and complain about things that are out of their control. Sorry about the rant.

First of all I had awesome service from the people who were serving me. Noticeable Nicholas M who went out of his way to bring us a cake in celebration of me and my gf anniversary.

I must say that getting appetizers is a little too premature considering that they provide bread and pesto, prior to the entrees and the entrees are pretty decent sizes

    What we ate -
Appetizers - Seared Ahi Ahi (it had great texture and bold flavors)
Entrees - Vegetarian Pasta Primavera and the Surf and Turf
Drinks - Stella and a Virgin Pina Colada

After eating the bread with butter and pesto spread, we actually couldn't finish the pasta, we split the surf and turf and had to take the pasta to go. Towards the end of the experience we had no room for dessert however who couldn't resist free chocolate cake complements of our server.

So food was good, service was good, view was amazing, I had a great time with my sweetheart. I had one bad experience, and it's not even worth mentioning cause it WAS ONE person, I had to go the bartender for change to tip the garcon at the valet and well they weren't very welcoming, but probably not a good for them.

Go here and try it before you judge.

The view is great, especially on the patio. The restuarant is nicely decorated and has a very romantic feel to it. The front entrance is beautiful and a great place to take pictures. Also they have a good happy hour menu.

However, thats about all that is good. The food is decent but very over priced for the quality. The service is very poor and taked forever to get anything.

I might go again for the beautiful views and happy hour, but thats about it.

We visited Orange Hill for Easter Brunch 2012 and I have to say... I was expecting more. Which makes me a little sad.

    The good:

The view is incredible. We were seated on the patio, right on the rail and on a clear Orange County day the view spanned miles.

    It's a champagne brunch. That's always good.

They had a photographer to capture a family Easter portrait (albeit for $12), it was still a nice keepsake.

The variety of food, was pretty good... shrimp, crab, creme brulee, bananas foster, omelet stations, etc...

    The bad:

The service. We waited probably 20 minutes for our 1st glass of champagne and then another 10 or so for the OJ needed to make a mimosa. After going to the buffet for the 2nd time (the plates were small). We returned to our old plates still being there. And never taken. My husband finally went and put them on an empty table (at least 15 minutes had gone by, between visiting the buffet again and waiting on someone to come back and bus the table).

The service. In total, we received 2 glasses of champagne (well sort of, they refilled our 1/2 drunk glasses... so more like 1.5). This wasn't because we didn't want more... we did... but no one came back by.

The very different experiences. We had a great table location and that made up for the lackluster service and mediocre food (more on that in a sec), but many MANY people were seated in their banquet rooms, that looked exactly like banquet rooms. Everyone sitting in those must have been pissed. I know I would have been! No view, no ambiance and people coming in to your room for the buffet. It was VERY awkward. Worst yet... I'm pretty sure there was no price break.

The food. Because I know part of Orange Hill's draw is the view, I didn't expect amazing fare... I did, however, expect better than a terrible 80's movie buffet. The roast beef (yes, roast beef, not prime rib), was inedible, the seafood was cheap snow crab and not sliced (with no crackers in sight), the shrimp was peel and eat (not just cocktail shrimp) and the hot food was a mish mash of unlabeled "catering" food. The standout for me was the bananas foster.

For nearly $200 for a party of 3, I was expecting better. There were a lot of options for Easter brunch and I wish I hadn't wasted my money at Orange Hill.

OMG, This place just keeps getting shittier and shittier!
Went for a Wedding. The salmon smelled fishy. GOOD FRESH FISH, HAS NO SMELL! And the steak, thanks for not asking how I like it, BECAUSE, OF COURSE, I WANTED SO WELL DONE IT WAS JERKY. That's how all filet mignon should be done.

    ROMANCE.

Hands down. My God, I even went on Valentine's Day, cliche, I know, I know. But I'm really glad that I did go. So there's a really windy road that goes up to the restaurant and it's decorated with pretty hanging lights... already brings the excitement. Valet- Only. No other option, don't even think about it, theres no where else to park - so make sure you bring cash to tip.

As far as I know, I would highly recommend reservations. Only because it's not just one of those restaurants that you can stroll in on and expect to be seated. It's the only restaurant on that hill, for goodness sake, make reservations.

Prime rib - good. Didn't matter - it was the view that was unbelievable. Bring dates here - it'll impress them.

GOD, THE VIEW, Okay, I'm done.

    SUNDAY BRUNCH REVIEW 9am-3pm
    $34.95 ($29.95 if before 10am)

Made reservations for 9:30am through Open Table. We were seated within a couple minutes after checking in with the hostess and got a fabulous table by the window.

    SERVICE = 5 STARS
    VIEW = 5 STARS
    AMBIANCE = 5 STARS
    FOOD = 3 STARS

Mandatory valet is complimentary so you just have to make sure you have a few dollars for the tip. I LOVE the entrance to the restaurant, pond with koi fish and large fireplace in the front.

It's cute that they have the fruit roll ups, chips, and cartons of chocolate milk for the kids. The quality of the food was just "OK. I really didn't care for the sushi, Mediterranean chicken, or roast beef. For the kids section, the chicken nuggets and corn dogs were cold. For beverages, they had orange juice, cranberry juice, and cappuccino. If you want to order a soda or ice tea, it's over $3.00 and not included in the brunch price.

The food that was better was the freshly made chicken fajitas with freshly pressed tortillas and the made-to-order omelets. They didn't have anybody making dessert, but on the table they had cake, brownies, mini-tarts, and a chocolate fountain.

Overall, I love the look & feel  of the restaurant and the views, but I just wish the food was better. I would come here again for a special occasion or something though.

This review is based on their Sunday Brunch only. I'm going to start off by saying that this place is beautiful and the view is breathtaking of course. Now, the food, not so much. I may have had high expectations going in and that may have ruined it, but there was nothing great about the food at all. The English muffin in the eggs Benedict was overly toasted and overall just blah, poached salmon was just meh, desserts were boring. Our waitress refilling our champagne glasses was the only other positive thing aside from the gorgeous view and because of that I had a nice little buzz going and when I have a buzz going I usually wanna eat but not in this case.

I may update this review once I try the actual dinner, but I will stay away from their Sunday brunch, it's just not worth it.

Five star view, one star restaurant.

I requested a window table with a view for our anniversary when I made reservations here earlier in the week. After all, that's what this restaurant is known for and it was a special occasion.

Once arriving, we were told that there would be a 45 minute wait for a table. After over an hour of waiting by a firepit at their outdoor lounge, they told us our table was ready. They showed us to a 'kiddie' table that had been hastily set up in an busy aisle, with two side-by-side seats pointing towards an unoccupied window table. It was somewhat comical, but also insulting. We asked why we couldn't have one of the actual window tables, since there were a few without patrons and they said they were holding them for blah blah blah....so we decided to leave. It was only then that they offered us a regular table, although not one with a view.

The food itself was ok, but not so excellent as to negate the poor service. I had a NY Steak which was serviceable, but not to the quality of say, Mastros. Our server was personable.

I wouldn't come back here or recommend this place to anyone else. Their disregard for customers and overbooking ruined what could've been a great night.

I agree with all the reviews saying this place is incredibly overpriced.  The food really was just ok.  Not bad enough to send back, but hardly worth a return visit for.  The view is really stunning, though.

We had the Calamari to start.  It was incredibly chewy to the point it was barely edible.  We also had an amuse bouche, which tasted like cream of potato soup you could get anywhere, but super chunky and thick and put in a shot glass, making it impossible to eat since it wouldn't come out.  The part I managed to actually get out of the glass tasted ok, a little gluey maybe. My boyfriend hated it.   The glasses were too small for the forks to fit in, too.  I thought about sticking my tongue in there to get it out but had a vision of me sitting there with a shot glass vacuum sealed on my tongue and having to call 911, and decided against it.

I had the Mahi Mahi.  It was just ok.  If I go back I wouldn't order it again, it was kind of bland.  My boyfriend had the salmon, which he seemed to enjoy.

The service was good, our server was very nice but spoke with a thick accent so I had a really hard time understanding him.   He seemed nice enough and I felt kind of bad for him since he did seem to be trying.   It was my birthday and he brought me a complimentary slice of chocolate cake.  Now, I'm a pretty big fan of chocolate cake, but this was not good.  Stale, and not great quality.  Chocolate cake has to be pretty bad for me not to finish it, and I took about 3 bites of this.

I did check the sunset times and we got to watch the sun set, which was stunning.  It's a shame they can't seem to get the food dialed in.  I may give them another try for brunch, but not dinner.

All restaurants should start off with 5 stars, and here it goes with the +/-:

My friend took me here for my bday dinner/Restaurant Week! +1 star

The restaurant had an awesome view just about anywhere you sit and the couple across from us proposed! +1 star

We were not thrilled by the bread they served, they were cold and the Russian bread was too hard to chew. I also did not like the texture of the green  sauce, although the taste was good. -1 star

Good service, but the place needs to be updated a little more. =.5 star

The appetizer, entree and dessert from the restaurant week menu were no-nos! Nothing great about the salad and too much dressing! The filet mignon was tender, which was good, but the potatoes, although the idea was cool of stacking it-I could really get through half of it. The creme brulee dessert-NO! too greasy! Too much butter? And where was the hard shelled sugar on top? -2.5 stars :(

The fire-pit area is too cold to stay out and enjoy :( -.5 stars

3.5 is my score. I love the view, but the food is the most important part of the restaurant. Can't enjoy the view if I can't enjoy the meal. Step it up!

I've been here for a wedding and some cocktails before and it's always a great place a top of Orange.

I really enjoy the live music on Thursday and Friday nights with Sarah Brandon. She has a great variety of songs and is super friendly and fun to listen to with a cheese plate.

I was a little annoyed with the loud guys at the bar that gave no regard for those of us there to enjoy the music, but I was also told that doesn't normally happen.

If you looking for something nice to do on a Thursday or Friday, I'd suggest checking out Sarah's singing.

I have been up to Orange Hill many times, I KNOW I'm not going to fall off the side---and yet I am POSITIVE I WILL.

You go up to Orange Hill for the view - at night....if you like looking at varying degrees of smog-by all means go during the day.

Sunday brunch used to be much more reasonable and offer more variety and better quality....
now it's simply get ''em in-move 'em OUT!!!!

    Cocktails on the patio-at night-priceless!

This was followed by Burke Williams and my 7 girlfriends and I enjoyed it!
They were VERY accomodating to my party of 8, even though I, the host of the gathering was a full 30 minutes late. (I know, I know, shame on me!) They didn't give our table away and I was thankful!

Moving along, being our 1st time, I don't think anyone expected just how HIGH the elevation would be. We drove up that hill for what seemed like 5 minutes. LOL But seriously, it was like 1-2 minutes. Anyhoo. The valet was nice. The landscaping was beautiful, the host/hostess were friendly and even though they held my table and sat us where I requested, I was surprised to see how dated and STAINED the chairs were. Not a good look. Also there was a huge stain of chocolate I think on one side of the table cloth. No.

We had Josh or John and Brooke and they were great! They kept our glasses full for Sunday Brunch and had great attitudes. They deserved the MANDATORY =/ $50+ tip aka gratuity. Sidebar: I think it really sucks that if you enjoy the service or not, gratuity is included but whatever. Thankfully they were divine. =)

The food was pretty good. I thought they had more variety then The Reef in downtown Long Beach. The distance from the food to the table was long but you can't have it all. $350 later, we all left with smiles, satisfied and agreed we would return. As a matter of fact, I'm going again this weekend.

I had considered Orange Hill for my husband and I's 5th Year Wedding Anniversary/Vowel Renewal next Spring and was taken aback when I discovered they had a $15k revenue minimum for their small ballroom and $20k revenue minimum for their large. LOL! How about not in a million years? We've never had a wedding and have been married 4, together 8 years, so we're not hyped up on spending that kind of money for a renewal. You also have to use their vendors for everything which wouldn't have worked for us. The venue isn't newly renovated throughout and though those chairs and tables would be covered, I still know how they look without. Oh but wait! There is GOOD news (ha!), they'll waive the revenue requirements if the wedding is held Monday through Thursday!

Came here for my friend's birthday dinner and really enjoyed the amazing view of Orange County. The walkway into the restaurant had a little koi pond and it was really cute.

My friend's and I split the Orange Hill Sampler which came with fresh ahi, coconut tempura shrimp, beef skewers, and calamari fritti. All of the apps were okay. Nothing really stood out. For my main course, I had the Bouillabaisse which was packed with a lot of seafood but MAN that thing was SAL-TAY!!

Jak P. bought a couple cigars from their assortment of cigars that they sell at the restaurant. We went outside, lit them up, sipped on some whiskey, and enjoyed the views of OC. A nice way to end the night.

Came here for Valentines Day dinner last Saturday. This is a pretty lavish restaurant with a killer view. Even the entrance going into the restaurant is nice. The interior has a cabin vibe to it. The entire staff is extremely courteous. No complaints at all. Our waiter was very attentive and helpful. The food is pretty good but just doesn't justify the price tag. I've had a lot better for way less. Don't get me wrong, everything tasted great but just wasn't that spectacular to me. The view is just plain beautiful. I think that's what everyone comes here for. Overall a great experience!

    Now the food...

Appetizer - Orange Hill Sampler. The Ahi Tuna was very delicious! Calamari and Jumbo Shrimps were good too. But the beef skewers? I wouldn't order that by itself, that's for sure.

Soup - French Onion. Mehhh...it was alright. Nothing to brag about.

My entree - NY Strip Steak. Pretty tender and juicy. Very delicious. Potatoes on the side seemed like they came out of a bag.

Her entree - Cold Water Lobster Tail. Pretty good too! Nothing I can't get at Black Angus or Red Lobster though. The potatoes on the side were really good! Better than mine.

Dessert - Fresh Baked Apple Pie. Tons of apple slices! The ice cream on the side was the best part. We ate more pie crust than pie filling.

Drinks - I drank beer. She had a Berry Martini and a Lychee Martini. Both were very strong and tasted great.

That's about it. This place isn't cheap. The total for dinner was $170. Add in tip for the waiter and valet and you're looking at about $200. So if you're a broke 20 something punk, go to Chili's instead! Haha.

First of all, if you're not used to driving uphill on a narrow road, be very careful! Went here for the Sunday Brunch, around $36 including mimosas. I was expecting more than just the standard buffet brunch! So disappointed. The OJ was not fresh, the shrimp were small and not peeled and the dishes did not have labels on them so I don't know what the heck they were. The eggs benedict were too runny and the bacon was not the thick cut style. I did like the chocolate fountain, because they used the hard shell type of melting chocolate. Free valet, no self parking. GREAT view!!!

I can't find much to fault with this place. Great outside (patio) service, great views, excellent food, and superior service (inside). I've told quite a few people about this place since visiting. I hope to return in June.

I had the Sea Bass w/ Miso glaze. I thought the sweet chili sauce was a little mismatched with the fish. More miso glaze instead would have made this dish much better. Everything was super fresh and well seasoned.

One more little nit pick. I found it odd they gave me a bottle of retail tea when I asked for iced tea. I would have much prefered a traditional glass of ice tea I could get refilled.

I had a really nice Valentines meal here! The food was really good and the service was excellent.

We started with the lobster bisque. Then bf had the blue cheese iceberg wedge. Really good. I had the chocolate raspberry arugula salad I should have stuck with the wedge because I don't like raspberry vinaigrette.

Then we had the foie gras on toast and the raw  Blue Pointe Oysters which bf really liked.

Main course I had the prime rib THE BEST I've had up to date. Better than Summit House (which I just had today). The au jus was SO DELICIOUS with it and I felt the sauce and the prime rib were seasoned so well. Bf had the surf and turf lobster and steak which he thought was delicious. One of the best steaks he's had anywhere.

We had raspberry sorbet as palate cleasner and champagne (comes with the meal)

Lastly we had the chocolate covered strawberries and a waffle bowl filled with chocolate and raspberries.  Really delicious and the view is beautiful.

I really like this place because it is really big inside with windows going all around the building. If you want to eat outside there are fire pits in which u can set your food around the pit area. The best part was being able to watch the sun set and you can see all the way in the ocean and watch the orange orb disappear. Really cool first experience watching the sun disppear on a mountain. The drive down was cool as well I didn't realize the lights in the trees were made into shapes of animals!

I've had conflicting visits to Orange Hill, but at the end of the day, I have to say that [for dinner] the food doesnt justify the price...and the view, albiet incredible, does not make up for either.

    Four star review?

OH, I forgot to mention that their CHAMPAGNE BRUNCH IS WHAT DREAMS ARE MADE OF!

$35 bucks to feel like a BOSS with as many crab legs as your plate(s) can carry and as much caviar as you can stomach. To really, really get your money's worth, you have to be strategic. I think I figured it out:

1st plate: small bites/starters- Sushi, smoked salmon (awesome spread: creme fraiche, capers, pickled onions, chives, CAVIAR), shrimp and cocktail sauce, salads, fruit, etc. (you'll get to try a lot, but won't get too filled up)

2nd plate/3rd/4th (you decide): FULL THROTLE: Salmon, carved roast beef, pork chops, mashed potatoes, veggies, rice, (handmade) tortillas...and of course, the crab legs.  Just decorate the top of your already loaded plate with a few of these and bring an extra plate for shells/mess. You have to get down and dirty if you want to enjoy these crab legs...but it's brunch and everyone's so focused on what theyre getting next, they couldn't care less about how much melted butter is running down your face. (trick your stomach and eat fast!)

Final plate: Bananas foster.  So delicious, this is all I really needed.  As much as I love chocolate, this chocolate fountain terrifies me.  I'm also not a huge fan of mini desserts. So, in my opinion, the bananas foster is enough.  And after brunch is over and your group is like "did you try the cheesecake? So good.", "how many things did you dip into the chocolate fountain, I dipped 12 marshmallows and three rice krispies", you can be like..."Oh, really?...I ONLY had the bananas foster.", which will make them feel terrible about themselves and make you feel awesome even though you can't breathe because you ate a pound of caviar, three servings of mashed potatoes, and 25 crab legs.

Also, bottomless champagne and mimosas. Never saw the bottom of my glass and literally had to say stop when I knew the time had come. You have to drive down that hill...remember that.

    Valet included, just pay tip!

Orange hill, with this brunch you "TOTALLY redeemed yourself".

There is NO DOUBT that OH has a superior view!  But the environment is not consistent.  My date noticed that the balcony was completely rusted, the storae bins outside were all warped and dilapidated, the patio heating elements had not worked for so long that they had portable ones there - so the natural question is, "why don't they remove the old ones - they're definitely eyesores!"  The piano player in the bar was at least 75 years old!  So he played "girl from ipanema" and other songs in the same era!  We had the NY steaks... dinner for 2 was $175.  The staff is OK...but not spectacular service.  Just seems a bit overpriced for what they offer.

I've had this place bookmarked forever to review.  So here we go.

The service and food is decent to above average; Nothing too notable to remember.  However, we did get a free dessert which was awesome.  The view was amazing!  The patio area was lovely and just being able to look over the city was perfect.  It is very romantic especially in the evenings when the sun is setting.

I've been to Orange hill several times within the last few years and will be back.

I usually sit outside next to a fire pit, right before sunset. Most of the time I would just come for some drinks and enjoy the view with my girlfriend. Cocktails are always good here.

The peppercorn soup and steak were delicious. The steak is really good but Ruth's Chris or Morton's is definitely better.

I had brunch on Saturday about a month ago for the first time. The smoked salmon with cream cheese on a bagel was good. The bacon was a bit flimsy and overly greasy but tasted fine. Chicken and hollandaise sauce was good, it was tender and flavorful.  Waffles were nothing special. Omelets are cooked to order and was pretty good. The sushi tasted okay.  Oh, and it's endless champagne, always a plus.

Service is always polite and attentive. I've never had a bad experience  with any of the staff.

Good spot for a first date. Just make sure to come about forty-five minutes before sunset. Don't forget to bring some cash, since it's mandatory valet.

I went here for brunch - bottomless mimosas and a wide array of food including a HUGE dessert bar, a chocolate fondue fountain, sushi, salad, oatmeal, homemade tortillas with all the trimmings to make fabulous tacos, prime rib, cold crab legs, and much more - overall, a great experience and worth the money if you're hungry and into buffets. The view is priceless.

This review is for their Sunday Brunch only.

Came here yesterday to treat my bf's parents to brunch and we had a wonderful time. It was a nice shinny day in California so we asked to be seated outside. Waiter was very friendly and nice, he checked up on us many times and made sure we had our champagne cup filled all the time! =]

Now on to the food, wow! It was delicious, nothing beats LV buffets but this is pretty good for the price. There were crab legs, shrimp, sushi, sashimi, roast beef and ham station, omelet bar, chips, salsa, handmade tortilla station with all the fixing, and many more items in between. My favorite item was their egg benedict and their baked salmon. OMG! fresh and yummy!

I would totally come back with friends and family as this place has a beautiful view of OC and delicious food.

    Orange Face-lift?

I like the new look at the Orange Hill Restaurant! I haven't been here in years, but stopped in recently with some friends.

We were pleasantly surprised when we noticed the new decor in the lounge. The orange chairs were cool looking. A little bit loud, but it fits the name of the restaurant. After settling in the whole place was really growing on me.

The drinks were good, and I Happy Hour menu looked amazing. We will definitely come back for a shot at the amazing views and fire-pits on a different day!

The waitress was a little bit off, but I'm going to chalk this up to being a holiday, and she wanted to be somehwhere else. Stay posted.....

    Nice comeback Orange Hill!

Beautiful location. Mediocre food at ridiculous prices.. at least my dish was. Amuse bouche? Bland & cold chunky tomato salsa in an Asian soup spoon. I recognized some of the sauces as sriracha and conventional bottled sweet & sour sauce.. all available for $2.00 a bottle at your local Asian grocery store. Sea bass was ridiculously over seasoned. A friend of mine ordered the sea bass as well and had the same complaint. It was inedible... even after it was sent back (which I hate doing) I still couldn't eat it. On the plus side.. beautiful view overlooking Orange & Garden Grove & my redbull & vodka was only $6.00. I wouldn't come back here again though.

    PARKING:
Came here for a holiday party and wow... they had a BUNCH of holiday parties at the same time. so... parking sucked! their parking lot was packed and we had to park miles away from the restaurant at the Albertson's. There was ONE van (later on TWO) that came and picked people up - only fit 10-12 people... and did I mention a BUNCH of holiday parties. So it took three trips to FINALLY get us.

    FOOD:
I got the chicken... kinda dry. The bread pudding was hard too. I was kinda disappointed in the food. The fiance got a steak and he said medium rare and it was well done. :/

    SERVICE:
I understand they were busy with regular guests and the many holiday parties going on but they were kinda slow but I don't mark points off from them for that because... tons of holiday parties.

There was one waiter who was awesome! He was so friendly and helpful! He even let me crash the other party (cuz the other party had a DJ and dance floor) - so that was cool!

    AMBIANCE:
Gorgeous. This would be great on a non busy night and when it's warm. The heat lamps and firepits outside were nice, but I think during summer, this place would be gorgeous!

Overall: I would like to give this place another shot because it's beautiful but probably not during a holiday party or a busy night. A night when I can park at the restaurant.

Finally made it here!! We had dinner here to celebrate our 22nd wedding anniversary here on Friday, the 9th.

The view - I can't say enough about. Spectacular!!! The foliage, the waterfalls, the lights, Koi pond and the fireplace before walking in the doors.. all added to a perfect ambience!

Service was ahhh-mazing. Everyone was so polite from the gentleman who helped me get out of my beast of a car in my skirt, to the people at the hostess station, the table bussers, the managers - everyone had that extra touch to their customer service skills.

Food was delicious! The warm bread and that addicting pesto sauce they serve with it, and then there's the raisin bread and butter! Mouth watering! Even their house salad was tasty! It had glazed pecans, gorgonzola, red grapes and a citrus vinaigrette. We ordered the Chateau Briand for two which they carve tableside after igniting it! So coo!!l! I love fire! haha!  Their baked potato was all salted up and baked perfectly served with all of the fixings. There were also petite veggies with hollandaise sauce. Just yummy food!

The view..... oh, THE VIEW!!!!! Loved it.

Complaints? They have too many tables and chairs crammed into one room. The whole center area should NOT even be there. It made it loud and cramped feeling. Crammed is how it felt. The waiters were practically stepping over people to serve. It was just wrong. It took away that whole intimate feeling they are going for.

The patio outside, also too crammed. The whole point in going up to the top of Chapman  is for the view. We never got a seat outside. Again, wrong. When a place is crammed is just feels like greed to me and that irks me. LOL!
