4 reviews for Orange County Zoo
I love this little zoo. Sure it is small. I mean VERY small. But damn. They have 2 big black bears and you can get up close and personal with them, which is pretty cool. This is a great zoo for smaller kids (toddlers or pre-K), as their is very little walking required, most of the animals are very visible in their habitats, and there is a well stocked petting zoo inside which contains goats, sheep, and pigs.
Older kids might and adults might find this zoo a bit too small or simplistic for their tastes, so be warned: don't come expecting the San Diego Wild Animal Park. Just a nice little fun zoo with some cool and unique species to observe.
Come to think of it, I am sorta opposed to the whole concept of zoos- taking animals out of their natural habitat and caging them simply for humans to gawk at. But...kids love to see animals and so I guess they are a necessary evil... :-\
I love this place, and I probably go about once a month. Every time I have an international visitor we go here, we go for a lazy Sunday, it's just a good place.
Sure it's not big and flashy, but it has a great lay out and an excellent animal selection.
I would love to see more fundraisers here to try and improve some of the animal cages, but hey, this place is awesome.
Take the family and spend an hour or so just wandering around.\
My Son loves the petting zoo, and I'm a huge fan of the coyotes.
Enjoy this place, and support the community.
The other zoo of my childhood (Most recent visit: Past June).
After hiking , or biciclying on a bicycle for two , around Irvine Regional Park and you are wonder what else there is aside from countless barbecues, hills, peacocks...there's the Orange County Zoo.
Two grizzly bears call it home, so do coyotes, owls, turkey vultures, mountian lions, among others. There were plans for a harbour seal, but I simply can't imagine a seal in that place.
For some reason, I feel that there are more things to see in Santa Ana Zoo, but perhaps that's just me.
The feeding area is fun, and it's cool to see the goats want to eat from your hand.
There's also some educational plaques around the park, giving information about plants and their medicinal uses by the local tribes.
The donkeys and llamas are my favourite part of the zoo, aside from the bear and owls.
It's pretty amazing that this little zoo has more to see than the Santa Ana Zoo which is much bigger. Admission is also cheaper at $3/person. It won't take you more than 30 mins to walk through the entire zoo area if you only stop about 10 secs at each exhibit. If you pause to feed the animals at the feeding area you can give yourself 40-50 mins and you'll be done.
Situated inside Irvine Regional Park, the zoo might cost close to nothing, but parking will set you back $5/car.
