Review from Linda L.
I have an aversion to lamb. Opa! is silencing that aversion.
On my last visit to Opa! my friend AK had me try a piece of her gyros meat. I put up the usual protest about not eating lamb, etc., etc. (I actually just don't like the taste of lamb). Anyway, I've learned over the years just to not get into a long debate with AK. She may be tiny, but there is no end to her persistent energy. God bless her for that!
Recalling that I actually liked that nibble of gyros meat on our last visit, I went all-in and ordered the gyros pita this visit. I was not disappointed. It was wonderful! The meat was highly seasoned and, because it's a mix of beef and lamb, the gamy-ness of the lamb is subdued to a pleasant finish.
Instead of fries, I opted for Avgolemono (Greek Lemon) Soup. I was intrigued about their use of orzo pasta instead of rice. I really liked it. The soup was really good. Deep, tart lemon citrus flavor. Rich and creamy. The chicken in the soup was a bit of a distraction. It should be there, but this chicken was long, stringy pieces of breast meat. A little tough to navigate gracefully on the spoon and a little bit chewy. (Personally, I think they should brine the chicken, poach and dice.)
I had a wonderful lunch and am now hooked on their Gyros pita!
I'm quickly becoming a fan of Opa!1 Previous Review: Show all »

Be aware that parking on the main street has a 2 hour limit but not on the weekends.
Not quite the fan of Greek food, but I tried to be opened minded.
1) Pasticio - Greek pasta basically. It was finish-able. Not the tastiest pasta I have had, but it HAD to do.
2) Gyro pita - I kept hearing about the gyro here. Gyro this and gyro that... but wasn't impressed very much.
Don't think I will be trying Greek food any time soon. -

The sangria is tasty - it comes in a big thick glass goblet w/ lots of ice and topped off with oj and club soda.
Dinner was pleasant. We had the smokey eggplant dip (delish), shrimp/scallop appetizer (3 shrimp/2 split scallops - ehh could pass on this), gyro sandwich w/ the fries that everyone talks about (gyro was alright, fries were soggy w/ too much feta) and the beet salad (delish!).
The pita is thick and fluffy and grilled - it is probably the best pita I've had.
The tables are SUPER close together and boy do they pack them in. It's a festive and fun place to get a good meal. Stick with the small plates/appetizers/drinks. -

Dear Opa! you are a Greek restaurant Greeks are hospitable and friendly you seem to have missed that mark.
Came here on a Saturday night in a group of four was told there was a 20 min wait we were fine with it 30 mins later we were seated. We order the Greek sausage and flaming cheese. A table that sat down and ordered after us ordered the flaming cheese as well. Their cheese came and we were told they ran out after we asked about it for the third time (convenient) . We ordered drinks and two of them came out the others didn't. Finally the food arrives in 5 min intervals the meat is completely cold the last plate is still warm. The fries were stale as if they had been sitting around for a while.
Our waitress who was also the hostess asked us how it was going and we decided to be honest with her and tell her this wasn't decent service and that everything is cold we are better off popping it in a microwave. She got so upset she didn't even bring our check she asked a co-worker to bring our check. Manager/Owner was there walked by clearly knew what was going on and did nothing about it. A simple acknowledgement would have been sufficient.
This was not my first time here I have been here other times if the food was warm and came out all at the same time none of us would have been upset. everyone's complaints that the place is far too small and you are likely to get bumped is completely true.
The food tastes good but when it comes out cold and you cant enjoy it with the people you are with there is no point.
I have been here when it is busy and the service was terrible
I have been here for lunch and the service was okay only because there was hardly anyone else there.
I have been here with a large group and it works great because they put all their effort into satisfying the large groups rather than the little tables of 2-4.
Sorry Opa! you just don't make the cut. -

Decided to bring my friend here for dinner on a Thursday night. It was a late dinner; arrived at 9PM, but we still had to wait for ~20 minutes to sit.
I brought a bottle of wine since I heard about the no corkage fee on the first bottle. A definite plus. We started off with the Spicy Avocado Spread, which came with pita bread and Opa Fries. Unfortunately, the spread was not spicy at all so we were disappointed. Skip this and get the Fiery Feta Dip instead.
For dinner, I was going to order the lamb souvlaki until our server told us they were out of lamb and chicken. I was disappointed as I was starving and that's what I was going to order. So I decided on the beef souvlaki instead; then to only find out that they were out of rice as well! UNBELIEVABLE! No lamb and no rice?! I purposely brought my friend so she can try them both! Since we already ordered a side of fries, we both had to settle for Greek cucumber salad instead. Our server was apologetic and advised it was really busy that day, but we still weren't too happy about it. What a disappointment. Hopefully, my friend will be willing to come back and try again.2 Previous Reviews: Show all »

Los Altos, CA
Cold, loud, and received surly service from the waitress. The two stars are for the food.
My sis and I met a friend here for a birthday lunch celebration earlier this week. The floor to ceiling windows were wide open (yes, in the middle of December) and it was so cold inside that even the manager (at least that's who I think he was) was wearing a jacket. Not a sportcoat, but an actual jacket from Land's End or something. We asked our waitress if they could shut the windows and she looked irritated that we even asked. She came back and told us that the manager refused to close the windows, but we could move to the back where it was warmer. So we move to the back where it's no warmer at all, but at least there's no draft from the open windows.
Waitress comes to take our orders and we ask what the soup is today (cuz we're *freezing*!). Her answer, "Yeah, I forgot to ask. But they have the lemon soup." Period. Didn't offer to check for us, never smiled once, never even said happy birthday, let alone bring out a mini-baklava or a scoop of vanilla. Duh, there are birthday presents on the table! I'm sorry I left a tip at all... Oh yeah, and on our way out we noticed that they'd closed the windows up front.
Never going back-- the food's just as good or better at Cafe Artemis, Cafe Baklava, spendier Evvia, and a million other places that have friendly service, a warmer atmosphere(!), and actually try to make the dining experience pleasant. -

Los Gatos, CA
With two young kids, my wife and I really value our infrequent date nights. Too often the cost of a babysitter and a nice dinner out can run the tab up to $200+. Last weekend we discovered Opa! Los Gatos and the result is simple...more dates nights! Opa! was exactly what we needed...satisfying Sangria, excellent Avocado Spread appetizer and some of the best Lamb Chops you'll find. At $22 for the Lamb Chop entree it is a true bargain. A similar dish down the road at Dio Dekka is about twice the price. We also liked the atmosphere and friendly wait staff. Only gripe is we wish the restaurant was larger as the dining room is somewhat cramped. Hopefully Opa! will be so successful that they'll knock down some walls and expand.

I went to dinner here last night with my husband, daughter and her friend. We had to wait about an hour, so went to Andale first for a couple drinks and chips - unfortunately that cut into our appetite. We had the Opa Fries and Saganaki (flaming cheese) as appetizers. The fries were really tasty, but were not servied hot. The Saganaki was delicious served with pita bread. We would definitely order the Saganaki again!
My husband had the Lamb Souvlaki, which he loved (don't know....I don't eat lamb). I had the Avgolemono Soup (Greek Lemon Soup), and added the side order of chicken. The flavor and texture of the soup were good, but the chicken in the soup was stringy - I didn't think that it worked well. The side of chicken came on a skewer and was good. My daugher enjoyed her Horiataki (Greek Village Salad). Her friend had the Greek Burger - she liked the meat but said she would order the sauce on the side next time - it was a little too much for her.
Service was just okay. We had to send a plate and a glass back because they were dirty. I am still planning to go back because I saw dishes at other tables that looked really good. -

Been here a few times (haven't been to the other locations btw) and the atmosphere is great and the food is solid as well.
What I've Had: Chicken Pita/Souvlaki, Lamb Souvlaki, Gyros, Fiery Dip, Tzatziki, Other Dips, Pita, Greek Salad, Opa Fries, Baklava...etc
Overall, the food is solid - nothing mind blowing (like a Dio Deka or Evvia/Kokkari) but very fairly priced and good tasting food for sure. I prefer the chicken although sometimes I feel it isn't as hot as I'd like it. That actually would be one constructive criticism for the entire restaurant - sometimes, the food comes out a bit cooler than I'd prefer and I've asked for "fresh" Opa Fries before...etc.
The tzatziki sauce is OUTSTANDING. Perfect consistency and taste and a little side/extra of it is just a buck which is nice. I also love the pita which is usually fresh and hot and perfectly grilled.
The atmosphere is really good and if you're looking for a nice spot to go with friends and grab some solid food and a drink, this is definitely a solid spot in Los Gatos. -

The ambiance is cool but the food is mediocre, not bad or anything just eh. We ordered the gyro platter, meatballs and artichoke dip. Not going to complain but questionable as to whether I will return instead I'll continue my quest in food exploration beyond opa. Note that jake was our server and was exceptional.

I ate at this location on 11/11/11 based on the other reviews, maybe they were just on off this day.
I ordered the Greek Salad and Spanakopita assuming that they couldn't possibly be bad at a greek restaurant. Boy was I wrong. I could have gotten a better greek salad from Trader Joe's. The salad was bland and overpowered by oregano. There was no feta cheese and the vegetables were chopped so small they were barely recognizable. Now it was time to try to Spanakopita. First of all it came in a pool of olive oil which might not have been so bad if the pie itself wasn't also drenched in oil. It was completely flavorless and I sent it back.
My feelings towards this place are if you can't manage to do get two greek staple dishes right then you are in trouble. -

I came for dinner with a group of 8, we had a nice meal, ordered a lot of food and drinks, and all of sudden at the end of the meal (after we had received the bill, but the waitress had NOT yet taken it) the hostess, or whoever she was, walked up and asked us to hurry up and leave because they needed to seat another large party. I almost enjoyed myself here, but after that I will not be returning. I have never felt so unwelcome at a restaurant. If you want to go to Opa!, choose a different location. The Los Gatos Opa! has no idea what they're doing. This review gets two stars because the food was pretty good. The fries come with garlic and feta cheese, and are delicious, and the chicken in the chicken pita was seasoned nicely.

Opa!= Yum! Must try: Opa! fries (paired with garlic, feta, and their homemade lemon mustard sauce), Firey feta dip, and flaming cheese... So delicious!
Opa! is always busy on the weekends and rightfully so. This Mediterranean fare is some of the best in south bay offering everything from traditional gyros and moussaka, to pizza (severed on pita for a Greek twist). Their original Greek salad is delicious... Add a souvlaki skewer and it's a great meal. I have a habit of bringing out of town visitors here for a nice bite and it never disappoints! Bonus: they offer bottomless mimosas on Sunday during brunch.
Warning: the Opa!fries are seriously addictive. I'm quite sure they are the reason this place has an exclamation point in the name of the restaurant. Mmm! -

YUMMERS! This place was awesome. My friend and I were strolling the streets of Los Gatos and found Opa's. I'm very particular about greek food and I consider myself a foodie. We thought we would try it out and I'm so glad we did.
My friend ordered the gyro, I ordered the chicken pita and we both got a greek salad. Both of us were impressed. The flavors of the gyro and the chicken pita were extremely delicious. The tzatziki sauce was hands down the best I've ever had and the salad was very fresh, colorful and great.
The service was great and the ambience was nice. It's a narrow restaurant, but who cares. It's very cute and quaint.
I live in Santa Clara, and love visiting the beautiful town of Los Gatos. I will definitely be visiting again and will make sure to bring my husband next time. In fact, I will bring my parents here when they visit for Christmas. I will make sure to tell all of my friends about this place.
Thank you for the YUMMY food! :) -

First time here, and tried the Moussaka and a small Greek salad. The salad was pretty good, but the Moussaka was only okay. The flavor is more in the sauce than in the meat and rest of the dish. I will come back again and try another dish based on the other reviews.. When I come back I will update the review.

We tried Opa! after a friend strongly recommended it. We went this past Saturday at noon and had no trouble getting a table for 4. Yes, the restaurant is on the smaller side, but we didn't have any problems getting seated. The staff was super friendly and extremely patient with us. We had one of the people in our party show up half an hour late due to parking issues and we were never pressured by any of the staff. We ordered the Saganaki (Flaming Cheese) to begin with and it was incredible! Next we shared the Vegetarian Souvlaki, Opa! Lettuce Wraps, The Spartan and Moussaka. All 4 of the dishes were AMAZING! We sat and chatted for a while and were never rushed out. We will definitely be going back again soon!

I've eaten at Opa! a couple of times and the food is fine. But, the service really needs an overhaul.
When I arrived at Opa! the hostess was on the phone taking a to go order. All the other employees were standing around the bar in the back while I waited for about 4 minutes for the hostess to finish up on the phone.
The restaurant was about half full at 6:30 pm on a week night. Unfortunately, one of the tables including a screaming child.
The table seating in the front of the restaurant is very tight. Throughout the meal the waitress was bumping her butt into my table whenever she served the table next to me. And, when the table on the other side of me was seated, one of the patrons nearly cleared everything off my table when she swung her purse off her shoulder as she sat down.
I started with the Taramosalata with pita bread. The pita bread was a little too greasy as it had been more than generously drizzled with olive oil. The texture and flavor of the Taramosalata was smooth and tasty with just the right zing! from the lemon juice.
I wasn't even half finished with the Taramosalata when the server brought out the Horiataki (traditional Greek salad). And once I finished the Taramosalata, the plate stayed on my table as I never saw my server again until I flagged her down to ask for the check.
The Horiataki at Opa! is a very generous serving with large chunks of tomatoes, cucumbers, red onions, peppers, kalamata olives, and nicely finished with a vinaigrette and crumbled feta cheese. The serving portion is big enough for two people.
Opa! - good food in need of more attention to service. -

Huge menu, good wine list and intimate atmosphere. We sat at the bar because after walking around town we became ravenous and wanted to eat immediately. We ordered a few apps: the sautéed chard with lemon, a couple pita and spread plates (skordalia and the spicy avocado spread). The skordalia was basically two dollops of cold, garlic mashed potatoes with two kalamata olives and some pita bread. We weren't overly thrilled with this portion of the dinner, but we ate it all. After that we ordered the Greek Village Salad & Greek Lemon Soup with chicken. The salad is similar to your average Greek salad: feta, cucumbers, tomatoes, onions, kalamatas, and pita. However, the soup was the shining star. My wife is Turkish and she cooks a similar soup at home, which is by far my favorite. If I decide to go back, I'll definitely order this again. For dessert, we shared the baklava and the seasonal fruit skewers with carmal, raspberry, and nutella. . . frickin' yum.
The staff was attentive and fast getting our drink and food orders. We were there on a Sunday afternoon, so the big screen TVs had NFL on, which is good or bad depending on your taste. The restaurant is a little on the loud side so that was a bit of a downer, but again that could be a good thing; more people might equate to good food???...but then again McDonalds boasts billions served. Whatev. Check it out if you're in the area and want some Greek. They have an assortment of traditional dishes, e.g., gyros, as well as some fusion fare, like burgers and pizza. -

Nestled amongst the quaint, canopy-line storefronts in downtown Los Gatos, you will find Opa! and their majestic Mediterrean dishes. Opa! came highly recommended by a friend of mine and I'm sure glad she steered us over here.
This fabulous place is a cross between a chic modern wine bar and a bouncing brewery with it's mounted television screens and wood beam vaulted ceilings.
Among the delectable dishes they serve up is the mind-blowing Greek Cheesesteak Gyro Sandwich. My boyfriend said this amazing dish is worth the drive up from Monterey (about an hour, 20 min drive). Of course I stole a few jumbo bites and let me tell you it was supremely delicious. Big hearty chunks of gyro meat to curb the most ravenous appetite! The Cheesesteak is topped with sauteed onions, red and yellow bell peppers, mozzarella cheese and a spicy alioli sauce. Complimented by a side of their to-die-for Opa! fries, heaped with greek feta cheese for the most complete, delightful meal.
I had the Seafood Pita and it was very tasty; filled to the max with sauteed scallops and shrimp. It kinda took a backseat to by boyfriend's Cheeseteak but still very good and exciting.
Wonderful place where excitement and delightment abound! We really can't wait to return! -

I had never tried Greek food before and I was won over by this place!
I got the lamb/beef gyro with feta fries, it's addictive I need it once a month now. Everything tastes so fresh! Its a small place in Los Gatos, it gets really busy and you get crammed too close to other patrons which is why they got a lower score, also the waitresses can be a little short and rude.
I take a lot of non-greek eaters here for the first time and they are always pleased! -

What a treat!
A 5:30 arrival got us in with no waiting, but shortly after a line began to form. The Santorini Chopped Salad and Dip Sampler did not disappoint--along with a glass of Greek red wine. I'll be back for the Chicken Souvlaki, and Avgolemono Soup. The Greek pizzas also looked yummy. -
Review from Barb B.
When food is pricey, tastes fabulous and the service is excellent, I feel I got my money's worth and a place gets five stars.
When the food pricey and taste is so-so and the service is on the order of "snotty," then the place drops in stars for me.
Note to the snot-nosed food server...Don't keep insisting in that uppity tone of voice three times that we ordered the Gyro's with the extra sides (it wasn't) and correcting our mispronunciation of "Gyro's" more than twice (hey take a closer look---I'm Asian, not Greek) and then turn on your heel when the other waitress who took our order corrects you, and depart without an apology on the insistence of what we (didn't) order ....jeesh. Leave the Los Gatos attitude at the Junior League, will ya?
Price = high even for mid day
Service = marginal
Food =meh
______________
Not really worth a trip back in my book
The 4 small pieces of lamb with a lot of onions on the skewer, plus small slices of pita bread with olive oil for $7.99 seemed a bit steep. I asked for medium well and it was still too pink/raw for me. It was actually medium rare.
My partner's regular GYRO's with no extra sides (pronounced YEE-ROH, apparently....I am miffed that no Greeks I know ever corrected my Ji-Ro pronunciation...I'm thinkin science toy I guess) with fries was so-so. The fries looked like a middle-aged Los Gatos sun-worshiper from the 70's...all shriveled and not fresh looking, but smothered with cheese (to hide the wrinkles??) and his YEE-ROH was so-so. A lot of sauce, not much meat.
Like I said...the food was meh.
Addendum...minus 2 stars for my stomach ache 2 hours later. Blehhhh!1 Previous Review: Show all »

For a quick fun meal this place rocks!
Nothing fancy about this place but it is modern, quick and good!
Classics like a village Greek salad are tasty. All the dips yummy.
I always test a good Greek restaurant by how yummy their "Greek" chicken soup is, this places is great!
My husband enjoyed the lamb as well.
Greek wine selections are easy to drink and very reasonably priced.

Opa! Never fails to please me. If you're looking for some noisy fun with some great food then Opa! may please you as well. For some odd reason, though the seating is cluttered, layout is bizzare but it does not bother me since I go here just for the food.
I usually get the Opa! Ribs and Keftedakia for appetizers, by far the ribs are still my favorite. But what beats the ribs is the Lamb Chops, Paidakia. I've tried a few things at Opa! the food quality has been consistent and taste is simply perfect. The gyros is also worth a shot here, love the freshness of pita. Do try their Skordalia, if you can handle an over doze of garlic.
For dessert, I always get Sokolatina, love the raspberry sauce with chocolate cake. Check out their wine list as well, some very good wines. -

Weird restaurant layout. It's really narrow and all the furniture is dark. And then there are 5 LARGE tv's For such a small space, the bright lights get distracting. Is this a sports bar when no one's looking?
At the very core, you are just getting expensive Greek food. You can get even better Greek food at many other places without the stuffiness.
I had a gyro with lamb and beef. It was big and well stuffed. The fries had an odd texture, almost tasted a bit old. I did like the feta though. At $10.99, this is one of the cheapest things on the menu. My man loved the blood mary... it was $9 and I felt like I was drinking a pizza but he said it was good. I guess I will deem him a bloody mary connoisseur to give him some credibility.
The area is a bit bougie but what can you expect? I need to eat at places that keep it real, you know what I mean. -

While the price is not so surprising given the location and ambience, the food and service are just so so. The fries with feta cheese never really grew on me even though I have ordered it a dozen times. No doubt I will be back here again in the near future due to its convenient location but I sure am not looking forward to it. I can only hope that next time the waitress will not take liberties with changing the tip amount on my check. Overall, this place is pretty harmless but not great.

Enjoyed our food here - the gyro and the moussaka. Gyro was a little overcooked, but the flavor was good. Pretty decent atmosphere - very casual. I would note, however, that the restaurant was half full at most and it was still pretty loud. I have to imagine that this place is probably really, really loud if it is completely full.

I LOVE me some Opa! Cheap and cheerful. Good as can be. I come here all the time. My only complaint - and this is a big one - why are there 5 TVs in the main dining room? This isn't a sports bar! I feel like I'm in Best Buy when I eat here. I can't even have a normal conversation with my family because every time I look up I have a TV in my face. This is overkill. Restaurants need to take TVs out of dining rooms. I'm talking to you, Opa! My hubby is so bummed by all the TVs everywhere that he is threatening to boycott this place. But the food is so good. And so reasonably priced. I'm not ready to throw in the towel just yet.

The staff here are real friendly and helpful pertaining to answering your questions for the menu.We came here for lunch and I had the lamb and Wow this really was tasty and marinated with spices that caused you to wonder what the chef used to get their results. The salads were good also and the veggie pita was good. You could smell the food cooking and it filled the restaurant which got me real excited.I really liked the decor and feeling inside. I will be back again to try dinner. If you like Greek food this is the place!!

Death by a thousand cuts.... This was our 2nd try at this Greek and sadly will be our last.
There's something fantastic about Greek food and this restaurant 'almost' gets here but leaves you somewhat disappointed.
Why ?
1. Too many tables and not enough room.. you feel like you're sitting with people you don't know and didn't expect to be conversing with
2. No sense of intimacy - you're surrounded by flat screen 'sports bar like' monitors
3. Narrow - like cramming 20 tables into a coffin, sound travels and amplifies, hard to think with all the 'well-uh, yah, rad' comments from people attempting to sound affluent and trendy
4. We ordered the dip sampler, Taramasalata is good, the fiery one was more like a crumble topping than a dip and the Kalamata passed but was more like a dry spread than a dip. pitta bread was as greasy as a 60's hairdo.
5. Service is attentive but a tad too insistent on spinning the tables.
So net/net, it's got all the key ingredients but fails a little on every front.
So.. If you have very dry hands, want to meet people, want a noisy restaurant, like watching the game yet feel embarrassed to sit in a sports bar then this is definitely the place for you. -

For me, this place would receive the coveted fifth star if they just had a bigger venue. Nobody likes siting 2 inches away from the table next to you. It's an uncomfortable situation that I'd rather not have to deal with then I'm in the mood to enjoy a nice meal out.
I came here for dinner on a Friday night to catch up with a childhood friend. We were expecting to have a long wait, so we put our name down. Without reservations, we were still seated in about 30 minutes. The hostess and our server were both very nice and polite. However, going back to the odd layout of the store, our server had to awkwardly maneuver around another table to get to ours, which was again, two inches away from the other table.
As for the food, I loved every bite of it. We shared the dip sampler. He ordered the Opa! Ribs and I got the gyro pita. All were exceptional Greek cuisine.
Good priced for downtown lg. I will continue to come back, but next time maybe during the week to avoid the crowds. -
Review from Tina A.
I've passed by Opa on a weekly basis for years now, but have never had the urge to try it. I could see that it's constantly packed, but I thought no Greek food could ever win me over (I went to SJ's Greek Festival last weekend and didn't have a change of heart). I now stand corrected.
Last night, a group of three of us had a hankering for dinner after late night drinks at Carry Nations. Our only option at 10:30 p.m. - Opa. Our eyes were bigger than our stomachs and so we ordered a good variety of plates from their menu - a trio of dips (fiery feta, melitzanosalata - eggplant, tzatziki), dolmades, their flaming cheese, the Greek village salad, and finally their chicken souvlaki skewers with Opa fries. Oops, and baklava for dessert.
Their food really made a convert out of me and I am stuffed with leftovers while writing this! Each item is full of palatable flavors. Their pitas are more like flattened focaccia than what I know to be the traditional (so good!) and their chicken souvlaki comes with an incredible dijon-based sauce and nicely seasoned fries. I'd easily order all of the above items again.
This restaurant will now become part of my rotation. Can't wait to bring my family here.
