Romantic chic atmosphere that begins with a larger than life entrance (front glass door literally spans to ceiling) and ends with a delicious Irish Coffee made with thick cream and high shelf whiskey.
To taste, start with the soup of the day and the beets & watermelon salad- sprinkled with pistachios, watercress and humbolt cheese). Must-try entree selections are Organic Baby Back Ribs (order a plate- these babies are fall-off-the-bone delicious!), Foie Gras & Chicken Ravioli (truffle oil takes this dish to next level), and the Pan Seared Mahi Mahi (little nuggets of perfect pan-kissed fish).
For dessert, save room for the Vanilla Creme Brulee (not too rich) and any cocktail of your choice. All drinks are prepared with modern flare by handsome bartenders who are quick to serve, and creative with their concoctions.
Great San Francisco experience, excellent place to take a date, fine dining with modern class. -

Experienced Oola through Dine About Town for lunch today with coworkers. Hoping to beat the lunch rush, we set a reservation for 1:15pm. First thing I noticed after walking through a tall narrow door, was the chic decor, cozy looking booths, and impressive looking bar. I came in a group of 4 who were all eager to try out the DAT lunch for ~$17 - awesome deal for 3 courses! However, when we arrived, the host table was empty and we were ignored for several minutes prior to us catching the attention of the host, who was helping bus tables. Not too big of a deal as we were sat immediately afterwards - but not a great start either.
I ended up ordering the beet salad, short ribs, and root beer float for my DAT lunch. The beet salad had large chunks of watermelon, and both yellow and purple colored beets. Very colorful, pretty, and delicious! I especially liked the toasted pistachios (i think they were pistachios) they put on top. The short ribs were incredibly flavorful and fall-off-the-bone (literally!) tender. The dish comes with a side of coleslaw which tones down the savoriness of the ribs nicely. I would like the emphasize that if it were only for the food, I would have given this place a higher rating. Also.. you may have noticed that I didn't give comment to the root beer float. This is because I was never given my dessert - explained below.
Sadly, we experienced pretty frustrating service during our lunch. We waited over 30 minutes between after finishing our starters for our entrees to arrive. And this was only after having to track down our server ourselves to ask about the delay. Our server was pretty much MIA for almost all of our meal. We would resort to flagging down other servers to try to get some help; however, usually we were met only with the response that they would go "find our server".
As we were already short on time, when we received our entrees, we requested that they pack up our desserts to-go for us as we were in a hurry. After agreeing to do so, our server again disappeared for a good while. When he finally came back to the table, only to let us know that they were unable to pack the root beer float to-go. We said that we would take the root beer float right now and asked him to pack the rest of the desserts. Again, our server disappeared for a good chunk of time.
At this point, we were desperate for the check and asked for the check from 3 different employees before finally getting it. After we finished closing our our check, our desserts still had not arrived. After waiting for a while, we decided to try waiting at the bar area. It took us standing by the bar almost 10 minutes before our server finally handed us our desserts. Mind you, I was never given my root beer float at the table, so I thought that our server may have forgotten and substituted it for a different dessert that was pack-able. However, when we checked the boxes back at the office, there were only desserts for my 3 other coworkers.
Overall, the food was wonderful, but the service really hindered us from really enjoying the meal. Considering that the restaurant was not busy (not peak lunch time) when we had our meal, I really can't justify the poor service we received. -

Davenport, CA
First off, apologies to the chef. And the bartender. They do not deserve a single star. All of the food and drink that showed up on our table was absolutely fantastic. The steak i ordered and the sauce included were out of this world.
However, the service was the worst i've seen in a long time. We had to beg to get our glasses refilled and when we were able to order new ones, it took about 20 minutes to get them. The place wasn't even that busy.
On top of that, after we received the bill, the hostess came over to our table and asked us to hurry up and leave because she had a group she wanted to seat. We had reservations and were well within what i would consider normal, casual dining time.
If you're gonna try to play in the market these guys are going for, you better have good service. -

Oola is fantastic! This is my FAVORITE place to come eat some yummy tender ribs, some parmesan cheese fries and drink a glass of champagne. The atmosphere is somehow cozy and modern at the same time, and the friendly staff makes it all the more enjoyable. Luis, Kevin and Galvin are the best ~ super on top of things but also warm. Can't wait til I come back!

Manhattan, NY
Tried this place out for lunch during Dine About Town, which is such a deal for $18. I started with the cauliflower potato soup, which was good. The portion was a lot bigger than expected. Baby back ribs was my choice for the 2nd course. The soy ginger sauce is amazing- my whole family raved about it. It was perfectly paired with a red cabbage apple slaw, which was also good. 3rd course was a frangelico bread pudding, which was delicious as well and a perfect ending to a good meal.
Dine About Town lunch is only supposed to include 2 courses, but Oola slips in a 3rd course for dessert. Props. The ribs alone on the regular lunch menu is $16, so having the soup and dessert included for a couple dollars more is such a good deal!
Definitely get the ribs! -

Oola is located near work so have been here many times for lunch, and it's consistently a good meal. Went last week and ordered off the Dine About Town menu. Such a great deal (they offer three courses instead instead of the usual two for lunch.) Ordered the beet salad, baby back ribs and a chocolate caramel cake. Portion sizes were generous, and the ribs were excellent. Love the surprising crunch of pistachios in the salad, and the ribs melted off the bone. And the dessert was to die for, though I was so full at this point I could only finish a few bites.
Be sure to order the parmesan truffle fries - so good! -

If I had only tried this place a little sooner. It's so close to home and the food is a notch better than Zero Zero. I really enjoyed their truffle fries and the mac n cheese. The burger was pretty decent too. Baby back ribs fell right off the bone. The chicken was really juicy and the risotto was a mushroomy yumfest. My beet and watermelon salad was the best! Would love to try the brunch here someday soon.
The ambiance is also really intimate and sexy-like. My mother commented on how smart it was to serve food in dark lighting, just in case the cook gets hair or bugs in your food.
I will definitely be taking my lazy guests who don't like walking here instead of Zero Zero from now on. -

I had brunch here and was not impressed.
They offer either an $8 Bloody Mary or the "All day Bloody Mary" for $14. I was not given this option, I was just charged $8 each. I concluded mine were from last weeks batch of bloody mary mix as there was way too much horeradish as if it had been sitting for a while.
I had Eggs Benedict. The Holindase Sauce was like pudding. They don't use English Muffins and the Texas Toast they offer is too much. The eggs were undercooked and they stick spinich in there for some reason. Then there is some overcooked potato pancake and more greens.
Service from the bartender was less than hospiable. -

Ventured in here last night a little before 7 to "take a break" before heading back to work for our 8:30 NYE reservations. If my boss asks, this never happened, but we each ordered the Mission shot flight=1 shot of tequila (I think it was Patron Silver...could be mistaken), a Bloody Mary, and half a PBR. White trash spirit flight if I ever saw one but it was kind of awesome.
Chill ambiance, friendly bartender. The seating at the bar was kind of uncomfortable for a tall woman like myself but if that's my main complaint what the hey?
Checked out the menu online and the food looks and sounds fantastic. Can't wait to go back and try it! -

Did Dine About Town dinner with the wife. Overall great food, decent ambience, and with most places on Folsom - parking is challenging. Great deal for DAT, likely to come back and try other items on the menu.
Appetizers: both of us had the sweet pea soup with spinach - very tasty, hearty portion in a big bowl.
Entrees: I had the Mahi Mahi which was really good, my wife had the short ribs which were amazing.
Dessert: we split the chocolate lave cake (was ok...way too much chocolate - besides the cake it had a brownie with a scoop of vanilla ice cream) and the bread pudding (very good). -

Fan-freakin-tastic food at good prices... if you're ordering from the bar on the "tapas" menu. I had pork belly, swiss chard w/garlic + bacon, and 2 ginger-glazed short ribs and the total was like $21. Frankly my two glasses of wine were more than that! I concur with what everyone says about the ribs - get them.
The bartender was super helpful, and even apologized once for being a little tardy in getting back to me (which he wasn't). And everything was served speedily and at the right temperature.
I'm not ready to give it 5 stars b/c it wasn't the best I've ever had, but I'd definitely go back with some friends next time for drinks + tapas.Listed in: San Francisco Faves

San Francisco, CA
I have been here four or five times, and had most of their dinner and late-night offerings. Surprisingly, I believe most of their best work to be on the tapas bar-only menu.
As far as the service is considered, I have had great service here as well. I can't say I know what's gone on with the one-stars here, but IMO the quality here is definitely competitive, if not top notch. They're not going for topnotch though, I think.
All things considered, the food and drinks here are top-notch. I'll definitely be coming here at least semi-regularly. -

San Francisco, CA
I have never been there except for this past New Year's eve when a group of 9 of us went for their fixed menu dinner. Food was fantastic. Five courses, a few options for each course. Scallops, foie gras, salad, filet mignon, creme brulee -- delicious! The only complaint I have was that our waiter didn't split up the check for us and there was a limit of 4 credit cards per check, so a couple people had to go out onto the street, find an ATM, and withdraw cash (and later on in the night, couldn't withdraw any more because of bank ATM daily limits). We were each paying $150+ per person that night... it would have been nice to not have to sit there for 30 minutes and haggle over the sixteen hundred dollar bill. Kind of drags the festive new year mood into the gutter.
This review is really more like 3.5 stars, because the food really is great, but the bill payment situation could have been a little classier. -

Oola serves the best filet minion I've ever had. It kind of ruins all other steaks for me. Other highlights include the cheese plate with fried cheese and caramelized onions and the blood orange margarita. An absolute favorite in SF -- I'm surprised more people don't know about this restaurant.

BRUNCH is amazing here!
Only downside was that we had to wait for 45 minutes to get a table (and they didn't take reservations new years day).
Nutella stuffed french toast with bananas on top and goat cheese, spinach and mushroom omelettes were delicious. However, the portions are small for the price.
Bottomless mimosas and bloody marys are worth the cost. Bloody marys in particular are made in fresh batches (not just out of the bottle). Some batches were better than others, but their spiciness and freshness made them great.
Overall, a little pricy with smaller portions, but a great place to go with friends for an extended brunch after a heavy night of drinking. -

perfect name! The food was definitely oola la worthy.
Me & my person shared
the ribs..oh the ribs. so taste! Juicy and flavorful. The sauce was perfect.
we also shared the mussels. The broth is amazing & we kept ordering
bread to dip in it..like too much bread.
No room for dessert, but will save room next time :) -

***Good***
Great food. Good atmosphere. It's open and serves food late during the week which is awesome. Go here for some great late night food.
***Bad***
Not too many tables, so it can take a few minutes to get seated.
***Recommendation***
Burger & Truffle fries are awesome. -

I had the Eggs Benedict about 14 bucks. (black forest ham, sautéed spinach, hollandaise with mushroom stuffed potato pancake and green salad) It was good. However I expected it to taste better since the food took so long to come out! It took over 30 minutes til we got our food. That was very disappointing because my girlfriends and I didn't have enough time to see the gold gate bridge because they took so long! Also, the service was okay, the server should have given us a heads up that the kitchen was backed up or something!
My Girlfriends and I also had the mimosa and bloody mary all day for under 12 bucks each. I thought that was a good deal!
Anyway, I don't think I will ever come back here to eat. However, a MAYBE if i pass by and want a drink! -

San Francisco, CA
The starters were hits (tartare, ravioli), the mains were misses (bacon wrapped monk fish, ribs). Overall, the food was good but the quality of the food did not come close to matching its price tag. Our seating was awkward (on corners instead of across from each other). I expect much more for $50+ per head (with no drinks purchased either!). A minor complaint: I had to constantly flag down servers. If a restaurant is planning to charge so much for their food, servers need to have service sonar and notice customers who look like they need something. It wasn't so bad, but lack of attention to detail can kill a high end restaurant. As far as a dining experience goes, it wasn't one I'd want to repeat. A lot of people seemed to be ordering their burger so perhaps that is their go-to dish to order?
Specific Food comments: Bacon wrapped monk fish was just bland (under seasoned?). The nage didn't add much either. Ribs were too sweet (you might like them like that) and slightly on the burnt side of caramelized. Slightly overcooked but acceptable.
PROS:
open late
ambiance
nice plating / presentation
some good dishes
CONS:
pricey / bad value
service did not match their menu pricing -

Nice find for an early weekday lunch.
Ordered the croque monsieur. Tasted as delicious as it looked. I wish I took a picture. Good sign that it was going to be tasty when a neighboring diner politely interrupted my chatting buddy time to ask what I ordered.
The sandwich bread was crisp in a good way and the perfect layer of melted cheese on the top was mouthwatering. Biting into it, the combination of ham, swiss and bechemel sauce was a delight. Next time, I'll add the fried egg on top, to make it a croque madame.
I wanna go back soon.
Maybe for brunch for croque madame and a glass of champagne. -

LOVE this place! They serve dinner until 1am, and the crowd isnt a bunch of drunk people gorging themselves after hitting the bar. The room is dimly lit with a red glow throughout the restaurant- perfect for a date night.
The service was great, on top of it and we felt very well taken care of.
I loved how their burger came out on a brioche bun and was quite satisfied with the mac and cheese. I have no complaints whatsoever and will definitely be back. -

My boyfriend and I were headed to the city for a concert and got there a bit early, we decided to grab a bite to eat and of course checked out yelp. The first thing I saw was chicken and waffels and I was sold. We made our way over and with out knowing what we were stepping into I was pleasantly surprised at the dim lighting, the romantic atmosphere and the ease of just popping up right at the bar for a few snacks and a cocktail. We ordered off the Bar Menu and got the Chicken and Waffels, The Mini Croque Madame with Quail Egg, The Roquefort Pear and Pepper Gastrique (not to mention the pears were camerlized TO DIE FOR!) and the Steak Tar Tar Crostini. Everything we had was absolutely delicious, we could not stop talking about it even though the concert! We both got a cocktail and those four wonderful dishes and spent less than $50 (before tip). I can't wait to come back . As for the servers they were not as on top of their game as they could be but maybe it was just an off night.

I finally got to try this place since ive had a http://restaurant.com gift cert for this place for while now.
Venue: a nice medium size restaurant. Decore was more of a dim modern look.
Service: Was good. Up to standards.
Food:
- Parmesan truffle fries - $9 (http://www.yelp.com/bi...) This was one of the best fries I've ever eaten! yumm.... very crispy but moist inside. Very thin and flavorful.
- Prosciutto With egg - $12 (http://www.yelp.com/bi...) I read on yelp that this was a good dish... but it didnt quite meet my expectations. A layer of prosciutto topped with a big crouton filled with an egg yolk and asparagus. The flavors together werent great. This dish was just okay.
- Half Entree of Ribs - $14 (http://www.yelp.com/bi...) Only 3 pieces... Too sweet for my taste and not tender enough. Kind of brunt. My friend thinks the ribs i make taste better... and I agree... Definitely not work $14 for ONLY 3 ribs that doesnt even taste that great!
Price: Too expensive. I would definitely not come here if I didnt have that gift certificate...
Overall: I'll only come back if there's a discount (AND the Truffle fries)... Otherwise I wouldnt even bother.Listed in: Great Date Places

We had a group of 7 people for the Dine About Town dinner.
I had the warm pear and roquefort appetizer. Super small, but tasty.
I had the ribs as my main course - freaking amazing! The meat fell right off the bone. The sauce was a tad sweet, but I'm a fan of ribs, and these were great!
I had the warm chocolate caramel cake and vanilla ice cream for dessert. OMG - a dessert orgasm in my mouth!!!
The food was good. The service was good, and I would definitely go back again.
The one downside...what started out as a $34.95 dinner, ended up being $70 with 2 glasses of wine, tax and tip... -

My husband and I visit SF frequently; however, arriving at 10pm on friday, we knew our options for fine dining would be limited. Our hotel concierge suggested Oola as a great spot for delicious late-night food.
Although we were initially a bit bothered by the very bustling bar we were seated next to, we quickly forgot what was going on around us. The food was magnificent. Though the portion was a bit scant, the cheese plate was decadent. The entrees were absolutely amazing and were some of the best we've had in a while-and we eat well quite often.
I would highly recommend Oola and look forward to making it back there again sometime. -

Shatangi loves ribs!
But I digress. Warm greeting from the lovely hostess!! Warm greeting from the hot bartender. Warm greeting from the hot server that let me flirt, tease and even laughed at my stupid jokes. When Yelpers say get the ribs, GET THE RIBS!! We split a full order as an appetizer and had burgers as entrees. Decent burger. Toasted brioche bun. Did I mention the ribs? Holy Fijoles!! They slow cook them to perfection and then deep fry them to crisp up the outside. Served with a sweet soy glaze they were a pleasure to consume. I will so be back! Congratulations on your marriage of great food and personable, friendly staff!!

Firstly...bravo to the chefs....pity about the staff!
The staff really let this place down...even from the start. We walked in and another lady was waiting in front of us and there was no hostess! Then a lady walked out with a tray of drinks and said she'd be with us in a minute...weird. She then proceeds to show us to a table of 4 when there was only 2 of us and she just didnt seem to know what she was doing...like she was the waitress not the hostess. Straight away I started to feel really uneasy about choosing the restaurant.
We ordered 2 mojitos after being told from our waiter that the barman creates artisan cocktails....um, how do you get a mojito wrong?!!! There was no lime to be seen in the drinks....strange for an expert cocktail maker!
We ordered the chicken & ribs and both were surprisingly delicious...and a side of truffle oil & parmesan fries (apparently out of this world our waiter claimed)....for $9 they werent out of this world....they were ok. It seems the only people getting it right in this place are the chefs.
On departure our waiter nor the two staff members at the door could bid us goodbye or goodnight. Weird. The owner seriously needs to sort out the staffing here...they really let this place down bigtime. -

came here for drunch this past weekend and had sooo much fun!
-i believe there were 12-15 people in our party and they take reservations
-my lovely friends planned drunch for my friend and me after graduating from school. they were able to bring cupcakes from another business
-the steak and potato hash with eggs was yummy. fyi: the steak, potatoes, etc are all diced and part of the "hash", as opposed to there being 1 piece of steak with a side of potato hash
-the staff (shout-out to joseph and...devin...?) is very attentive and friendly, making sure our mimosa glasses were full the entire time...and even went to the store to get more champagne when they ran out of mimosas
-i started off with one bloody mary, which was huge and peppery (which i didn't mind). also, it comes with a small slice of bacon as garnish-- gotta love that! ;P -
Review from James H.
The typical SF restaurant.. overly tiny, overpriced, only the food here was just average.
The portions are pretty tiny and the food is just okay. I had "the best thing on the menu" which were the ribs and they were definitely pretty good but in comparison to everything else my friends ordered I was extremely disappointed. As for ribs, go to any traditional American rib joint and I guarantee you you'll find much better.
Drinks were kind of a rip off. The only thing that is pretty sick is the ambiance. Pretty ideal for a date, not so much for large groups. (theres a total of maybe 30 seats in the restaurant. Drinks were pretty bomb and not too bad price wise.
Service was good but all in all, don't expect too much and you won't be disappointed. -

A girl like me waits patiently dish after dish, restaurant after restaurant for the one. . . like my first kiss, a special place that touches my heart and stirs my culinary soul while nourishing my body. It's not about fancy - it is about proper technique, salt, and the ability to let me "taste" an emotion. Oola is that special place for me.
I love Oola for perfecting the hamburger. NO OTHER PLACE in the city makes a burger exactly the way I like it.
Their burgers are hand formed, organic beef. When I ask for it medium rare - I get an exact medium rare, still hot on the outside from skillful searing and the color inside is textbook perfect. It is a juicy burger on a light-as-air brioche bun with pickled onions, and butter lettuce. I always ask for extras that cost $1 like a fried egg and cheese.
It used to be served a really cool board - kind of like a bread board. Tonight it was on a big plate. I miss the board. I thought it was rustic. I find great beauty when food is prepared well - simple, honest, delicious. The Oola burger delivers that.
My delicious burger came with perfectly fried and salted french fries. I can tell someone was eyeing the oil thermometer ::high five::. Oh, I almost forgot! I checked in on Yelp when I sat down and unlocked a free appetizer! It was one of their signature ribs with crisp apple slaw and a piece of Ahi tuna with heart of palm and fresh herb, playfully attached to a skewer. That free appetizer was delicious!
We sat upstairs - my first time! We had a table for two, tucked away. The venue is already sexy with the lush fabrics, mood lighting, house music, and heavy wood tables. . . but this table I sat at tonight? If I were on a date, someone would be in big trouble! ::laughing::
Our server Devin was personable, friendly, professional, and never left us to want for anything. We were on the second floor so he had to climb up and down those stairs at least 7 times. Everyone - even the host, were so good to us. I really love that.
Here is the lowdown on the perfect visit to Oola:
1. Go with someone you love. If you are single, don't be such a fraidy cat, ask someone you are attracted to on a date and go here!
2. Prepare to circle the block maybe twice. You will find parking!
3. Order a cocktail. They have great cocktails.
4. Order the ribs for an appetizer. If you are on a date, and he/she is too prissy to lick their fingers - LEAVE. ::laughing:: No one worth spending time with is above a great rib or two.
5. Order the burger. Do not pass go, do not collect $200 - order the burger. I, a woman, love a great burger!
6. Take time to read the dessert menu. I am often too stuffed, but sometimes I see something that catches my eye and I have never regretted dessert here.
7. Tip your waiter and your bartender above what you normally would if they offer you the same great service they consistently offer to me and those I am with. The economy sucks right now in case you didn't hear. I like happy staff! Letting them know you appreciate their professionalism and courteous service even with an extra dollar is a great way to thank them!
I love you Oola. You are my favorite late night gem in the city with your great food, great service, easy parking, and sexy ambiance.
To everyone at Oola: all the hands that played a part in tonight's perfect service, take a bow. Your seamless teamwork, professionalism, and good old fashioned kindness has earned you five perfect stars!
Keep up the good work - I will be back, but maybe you already know!Listed in: Fabulous Finds in 2010, Beef - it's what's for dinner!, Late Night Bites

It had been years since I'd been here. My cousins found ourselves here one night, after happy hour and decided to treat ourselves to a good dinner. We ordered the ribs, yummy as always, the frois gras ravioli that was too spectacular, french fries, yum!, some chicken and risotto dish which was good but ended up being too much food. Definitely will be coming back again, and hopefully soon.

There weren't too many choices for a meet-up spot/happy hour around the area so off to Oola we went. Nothing really extraordinary but still a decent happy hour at the bar.
We had a couple of beers at the bar and some nibbles. We had an order of the chicken and waffles which disappointed. Didn't really care much for the waffles but the chicken was the main let down. My main issue was that it didn't taste "fried" and it came a little soggy. The lemon zest was an interesting twist but couldn't combat the texture. On the other had, We did enjoy the Swiss chard. Then again it's got bacon and garlic in it so instant love right there. Perfect flavor combination where the fresh dark greens counterpoint the fatty savoriness.
All in all, Oola is a decent place to stop by the bar. Some hits but some misses. Dinner might be different. I'll return to try more but in the meantime, I know where to stop by for drinks and nibbles if I need some in the neighborhood. -
Review from Jackie G.
The ambiance in this place is very romantic and intimate yet with a casual feel. The service was hit or miss. Initially I loved how talkative our server was then when we reminded him we ordered a beer he decided to chat with the hostess instead for a good 10 minutes right where we could see them. The food- vegans just an FYI you may have to modify menu items. The asparagus was delicious and delicate. I also tried the chilled tomato soup (forgive me I forgot the fancy name) sans the mozerella barrata. It was quite tasty. I did leave satisfied, but for the price, it makes me second guess my meal...

Oh so good food, oh so little quantity.
Went here to catch up with a friend and his wife. It doesn't look that impressive from the outside, but it has a really cool interior, brick loft-style walls, high ceiling, and a small personalized atmosphere.
Waiter was really helpful with suggestions for food and wine pairings. Made it feel like we were his only table even though the place was at 100% capacity the entire dinner.
All the food was wonderful, my only complaints was that it was lacking in quantity, and very pricey for what you get. If I hadn't eaten as much as I did during lunch I would have still been hungry after the dinner, and considering we had an appetizer too... just be prepared!
It's really good though which helps balance the price:food ratio.
HUGE TIP: Check-in at the Restaurant with your smart phone and you get a free appetizer. BAM! Just saved you 15$ -

The fact that this place is open til 1am AND has some of the best truffle fries I've ever had makes me come back time and time again. The restaurant's inconspicuous front makes this place feel cozy and intimate - perfect for a late-night or after-work rendez-vous.
