I had an appointment scheduled for a pedicure tomorrow. Today I received a very sweet message from the owner of the spa that they are no longer doing mani/pedis and that Mika, the woman who had been doing them, was no longer there.

The paint job is new and the decor has changed, w/ elegantly understated black and white photos on the wall instead of objects in shadowbox frames. The atmosphere remains peaceful and serene.
May 15, 2009Previous reviewMuch more gentle today. It wasn't necessary for me even to mention my concern to Andy, although I was prepared to. Midway through the pedicure he commented that he had appreciated my writing what I did in my last Yelp review, because it helped him to improve his practice. I appreciated his reading my review, his forthrightness in acknowledging my concerns, and his good care today. I'm glad my decision to give him another chance after the last time was validated.
Apr 11, 2009Previous reviewLess gentle yesterday, more digging around my cuticles and nail beds. A bit painful at the time, still sore today. I don't like that. The massage still felt very good and the polish looks good, but I will talk about it w/ Andy next time and if it hurts again I may be on a hunt for another place. Too bad.
Dec 5, 2008Previous reviewI feel so pampered and well treated coming here! They also use OPI polishes and I found another perfect color today.
Oct 18, 2008Previous reviewI really like this place. I used to get my pedicures elsewhere but a combination of factors made me decide not to return. Pari, my aesthetician, recommended it based on the experience her business associate had had, so I walked in after having my brows done Wednesday and made an appointment. I was greeted warmly by Enju, who I learned today is the owner of the salon. We scheduled an appointment for today at 10:00 w/ Andy. The experience was lovely. He was gentle and sweet. I often felt the woman who formerly did my pedicures forgot I inhabited those feet she was trying to perfect. One of my favorite parts of a pedicure is choosing the color and today I found the perfect one. They use Zoya polishes, a brand that's new to me. The foot massage part of the pedicure was marvelous. Enju made me a cup of green tea, which was very welcome. My feet feel relaxed and well cared for. I was able to score a parking space directly in front and at that point on Solano there are no meters, another big advantage over the old place I used to patronize, where parking was difficult and spaces were metered. I have an appointment to return in December and am looking forward to it.

I really wanted to love this place and leave there feeling pampered, rested, and like the money I spent was well worth it. Unfortunately, I didn't feel like that at all. I went to the spa on 11/19/16, having made an appointment for 3 treatments (body wrap, facial, and massage) about one week prior. I was treating myself for having just graduated from college. I do not normally splurge like this but felt like I deserved it.
Mika asked my name as I walked in and said "ok, come this way". No 'welcome to Onzen, we have you scheduled for...'. Definitely wasn't a warm greeting but I am not too picky so I brushed it off. Unfortunately Mika was the same way with me during the body wrap and facial. She didn't explain anything, didn't give me any expert insight into my skin issues. If she spoke it was because I asked her something. I have had facials before and normally the esthetician will explain what she sees and what he or she thinks may be beneficial. There was nothing like this from Mika. The wrap was the same way - no explanation of what the benefits of the wrap are, nothing. What I knew about the infrared wrap was what I had read on their website prior to booking.
My massage was the one silver lining. I cannot remember my masseuse's name but she was African-American and I believe her name started with a 'T'. She was much more personable and welcoming. The massage was last so I already kind of had a bad taste in my mouth about the place and probably didn't enjoy the massage as much as I should have. Not the masseuse's fault though.
I left there feeling like I just blew a bunch of money all to feel unhappy with my experience I don't go to spas often (I have maybe been to 10 in my life) but this was definitely my least favorite one. I am not sure if it was just an off day for Mika or what but I walked in with a pep in my step excited for my day of pampering and walked out completely disappointed.Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Matthew D.San Francisco, CA811032Apr 20, 2019
One of the best massages I've received, with just the right amount of pressure, lots of lotion, and a cool technique with the palm of her hand that really loosen up the knots in my back. Highly recommended, you should definitely make an appointment and experience it for yourself

I received a gift certificate for a maternity massage here. I was about 8 months pregnant. It was going extremely well until the massage table tipped over and I fell onto the floor. Luckily I landed on my side and not my stomach. The table leg fell off after being slightly lifted for the massage therapist to get to the other side, the room is tiny. I was so thrown of guard because I was practically asleep from enjoying the massage. The owner apologized repeatedly. After what happened she should have not accepted my gift certificate. It should have been a free massage and she should have scheduled another one to make up for the terrifying experience. But instead she made me pay full price without even offering a discount and gave me a $20 off coupon. What a joke. That could have been a lawsuit. I'll never return.

Eunju made a few attempts to contact me.
I finally answered (maybe she called from her cell phone). She apologized and wanted to correct the issues from my first experience. I really appreciated that. I'm glad she was nice-especially because some business owners are very rude (and I've encountered several mad business owners-lame!) I admire business owners who want to fix issues. So, she definitely has her heart in the right place.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0Feb 11, 2014Previous reviewSo, after working at a spa for 2.5 years and remaining close friends with some of the best in the business (who have their own spa now), I am experienced with how a facial and/or a massage SHOULD be.
After reading reviews I decided to book an appt with EUNJU. Not Enju.
The receptionist Tatiana or something was so pathetic. It was a Sunday morning, absolutely nothing was happening but she was mad and had a crappy attitude. Luckily Eunju was quick to take me to the massage room.
She doesn't usually do massages but they booked my 30min massage with her anyway. The room was ok. Kind of weird there were 2 doors. (A back door and the regular door). Basically, it felt like my younger sister was rubbing my back. Not very good. (She later apologized). It bothered me that she cracked open the door and she turned on the fan. She didn't talk much. The stones were too hot for me. (I didn't ask for stones). I likes that she put a hot towel on my back. Not much flow, consistency or equality. Extremely meh.
But holy crap she was so talkative during the facial. I didn't want to answer her questions about my personal life. She's nice but I did not like all the talking. So I had a 90 min acne facial (I postponed my facial too damn long and needed some serious cleaning). She left the room several times. She left the room when I had my face mask on for 10mins. I've never been unattended during a facial. The actual mask was funky. She put some fishnet type stuff over my face followed by a chunky chamomile mix.
The whole thing just wasn't beautiful or relaxing like a spa should be... Eunju is nice but it's not my kind of spa. - HQ L.Berkeley, CA1011418Mar 22, 2017
Super cute shop. Located in the heart of solano.
I was sad that they won't offer nail service anymore.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Dec 26, 2011
Last Christmas, my then-boyfriend gave this spa-loving-pampered-princess-masquerading-as-a-low-maintenance-chick the seemingly perfect gift: a certificate for an hour-long massage of my choice from... a professional massage therapist at OnZEN the Spa, of course. (I know what you were thinking, and shame on you, get your mind out of the gutter!)
Why did I wait so long to write this review, you ask? Blame it on procrastination or busy-ness (it was mostly the latter, I admit). However, I also couldn't be truthful about my experience at Onzen if the gift-giver would still be likely to read my review. So Yelpers, here is an honest review, untainted by the gratefulness of receiving a very thoughtful gift from my former SO and preserved by my elephant-like memory.
My therapist, J---, was mellow and accommodating. When I mentioned the room was too cold, he turned up the heat. When I told him I wanted firm pressure that somewhere in between a firm pressure Swedish massage and deep tissue massage, he knew exactly what I was talking about. What went wrong, then? Oh, thin walls, so sad that you couldn't keep out the conversations going on outside. Not even with the help of the music playing inside the room. In summary, it wasn't the OnZEN experience I was hoping for. I didn't leave feeling zen at all.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Julianne C.Oakland, CA380279170Jul 14, 2009
5 stars for a wonderful, pampering and exquisite experience at Harmony Spa! I called last minute for a Manila/pedi ($40) and Andy was able to take me. Good thing I called because there was a stream of people inquiring about nail services while I was getting mine done! Started with a relaxing soak in their beautiful foot bowl, with a meticulous cuticle trim, salt scrub and the best foot massage ever! It was so great that I wondered if I accidentally signed up for the "Harmony Pedi" instead of their regular!! Turns out it's their classic/regular one. Yay! Same goes for the manicure. I think I found my home nail salon! Oh they are also a full service spa with facials and massages but I'll have to come back for those another time!
I know I can get cheaper nail services elsewhere but for the pampering and personalized experience, it's worth every penny!Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0
