I've been going to One World for about 3 months now and I must say, I have gotten stronger - mentally and physically.  As a previous gym junkie with a personal trainer for 6 months, I felt that I was reaching a plateau and needed a change but didn't know what to do or where to start.  I randomly heard about One World and the classes they offer.  All the classes are AWESOME!  And each class teaches and works your bodies in such different ways.

Crossfit is a total body workout.  I love Crossfit because it makes me do things I'd never get myself to do, and I love being scared of the workouts because it just shows how hard you're worked and how much you'll achieve at the end of it.  You seriously are pushed to your limit using all your natural body movements and additional weight you never thought could be possible.  This is not a typical gym with typical gym equipment, honestly most of the workout is all on your own and with a few tools to help you out in the process.  Krav Maga is a self defense tool that everyone needs to take.  It teaches you a lot about street self defense and all the different techniques you can do if you were to be in any kind of danger: from an attacker having a weapon (gun, knife etc), being choked, punched, or even fighting while your laying down on concrete - you're taught to get yourself out of a dangerous situation, and possibly put the attacker in a dangerous position instead!  Kravfit is awesome because it's similar to Crossfit except it doesn't have all the super heavy weight workouts (for the most part, trust me they do add the dead lifts etc every now and then!), but it keeps your body working with similar movements and the workouts are longer (they also include punching and kicking which are based from Krav Maga).  They also seem more cardio-based and will make you burn more calories if that means anything to you (if you're considering kick boxing or whatever, SCREW THAT, DO THIS - totally works out your muscles and gives you that crazy cardio burn workout!).  Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is more of a ground fighting martial art.  I haven't done much of this (and I should start again), but learning the 101 basic moves are really educational and fun too!

The facility is very clean, especially the women's bathroom (YES, they provide bath and body works antibacterial foam soap, victoria's secret body spray, tampons and pads free of charge! and yes the shower is clean with nice marble or granite flooring).  They even have a cute little box that says "Sweaty is Sexy!".  What an esteem booster, especially when I sweat like a pig!  No worries for how us ladies look here, no one's there to judge!  Oh!  It's also child-friendly, at least at the 12pm class times since the place isn't so crowded as it is in the evenings. Parents with little ones bring them in every now and then and they love building forts and playing with whatever is out there in the empty BJJ area while their parents work out.  It's a very safe place to be (considering some of the people that train here happen to be police officers too).

This place has changed my life, especially in health and fitness.  The people are here are very friendly, and it's such a family atmosphere.  I heard all about the "everyone is family" before I joined, but MAN is it TRUE!  You are always greeted with a smile, and if you're new and the regulars notice we will ask for your name and introduce ourselves.  This is a must try and go-to place for all ages that care about fitness and overall health.  They have BJJ for kids a few days a week, and Crossfit is for any age, size, whatever it may be.  Everyone is accommodated.  This place rocks!  I sincerely hope whoever has read this really goes in and tries it out.  You won't regret it, I guarantee it!

I've been taking the Krav Maga classes at One World since December '08. I wanted to wait a good 6 months to get the real feel of the place before submitting a review.

I gotta give these guys some props. They provide a great atmosphere for training. You'll have the Krav Maga, Jiu Jitsu and Cross Fit classes going on at the same time in their designated areas. EVERYBODY is pushing so hard in there, it's a good vibe.

I like the place so much I even signed up my daughter for the Cross Fit. Seriously, if you want to get in great shape, it's all about their Cross Fit program. If you're not too familiar with Cross Fit, come check it out. I had my daughter come watch the Cross Fit program while I did Krav Maga and she's been hooked ever since.

Bored by the gym? Can't get yourself motivated to work out?

Then join the One World Family. You are going to want to show up seven days a week AND hang out with everyone you meet there.

The other reviews have pretty much covered the physical fitness aspects of the place so I won't rehash them here.

I think it's the attitude of the owners and the members that makes this place an awesome place to train. Beginners are always welcome and veteran members will go out of their way to cheer them on, help them out , and make them feel like a part of the family. And if you are an experienced athlete, the workouts and training available, will challenge you and make you an even better athlete.

The training can be intense and intimidating regardless of which path you choose, be it Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, CrossFit, Krav, Kickboxing, etc...
but it's also a load of fun.

Words do not do this place justice. You have to just come on in and check it out for yourself.

This gym teaches crossfit, krav maga, Jui-Jitsu, eskrima, and kravfit (like boxing training).  They also do full krav maga sparring which requires shin and head protective gear.  So far I've tried kravfit, krav maga, and eskrima classes.  Krav maga is very practical self defense that assumes you want to take out an assailant as fast as possible while minimizing risk to yourself.  You won't find a lot of fancy kicks to the head, unless the other person is already on the ground.  This is my latest gym after migrating from 24hr to Gold's to Undisputed Boxing over the last few years.

Schedules for classes extend from noon to 8:30pm.  Weekend schedules are limited to Saturday mornings, no classes Sunday with the exception of a free Crossfit 10Am sesstion.  The gym is clean and well maintained.  Instructors are great at pairing students with similar skill levels (or lack thereof in my case) and diagnosing what needs to be fixed.  Most of the conditioning exercises are done as fast as you can do them, which means that you don't get stuck going only as fast as the slowest person in the class.  If you want to show rapid improvement, come here regularly -- the instructors are excellent at making sure nobody plateaus and everyone is gasping at the end of a drill.  If you are currently snoring through your kickboxing/boxing/weights training give it a try.

Classes are (I believe) ~ $20 for drop ins, unlimited classes start ~ $90 and move up depending on types of classes taken and payment schedule.  No sign up fees, which is a big plus for me.  So many other gyms front load the fees, which is actually an incentive for them to get you to leave quickly.

Can't pretend to know a damn thing about other gyms, but I do know I'm not a joiner.  This gym makes you feel like family, no matter what you're doing--Krav, BJJ, kickboxing, etc.  Everyone is super friendly, attempts to learn your name, and gives just the right amount of push.

Facilities are clean and relatively spacious.  Fees are fair.

The Crossfit crew is ridiculously fit and appears to be super motivated.  I have no experience with them except that every time I watch them work out, I feel like a lazy bum.  Krav people are intense as well.

My experience is primarily with the jiu-jitsu crew which is fun, funny, dedicated, humble, addicted to Kebabs, and male-dominated, but female and beginner-welcoming.  Leave your ego at the door and you'll leave sweaty and satisfied.

...that's what she said.

I have gone to 5 krav maga classes here now and I LOVE it! Every Monday at 5pm is now a women only class! Much smaller, less intimidating. Best of all, it's tailored to be more self defense oriented. I definitely think all women should check it out!!!

Also, the smell I complained earlier about no longer is an issue. They seem to have taken care of it. :)

There is so many great things to say about this place, I don't know where to begin.  I've been working out here for almost 9 months.  At first, I was a little intimidated...I watched a few sessions and saw the trainers and other athletes and knew I had a lot of work to do.  Nevertheless, I began my journey with my private introductory sessions.  After those, I began my first class at 0630 in the morning.  I love this place!  I would recommend this place to anybody who is looking to get in shape and actually see a physical change in their body.  Everybody in the place from the trainers to the other members are all friendly and helpful.  I feel this is a home away from home and plan to be here for years to come.  There are some free Sunday sessions so put on your sweats, swallow your pride and come on in.

Crossfit. Will. Work. You.

I've been to this gym twice and, all the rumors you hear about it being a cult are TRUE!!!  Long-time rock climbing friends of mine have tried to talk my sisters and I into going to Crossfit for the past two years and after finally caving, I've realized a few things:

1.  be prepared to be sore for literally 4 days after your 30-min intense workout.
2. become a frequent visitor and expect to look like a full-on body builder in no time.
3. you will discover muscles that you never thought even existed.
4. you'll feel great for actually hauling your ass out of bed Sunday morning to go.
5. people actually take pride in working out until they throw up in the dumpster outside (seriously).

I probably won't become a regular but the trainers are really friendly and they motivate (not guilt, pressure or threaten embarrassment) you do keep pushing yourself.  The workouts (or WODs -- "work-out of the day") are well thought-out and don't require fancy equipment, which makes it really easy to replicate on your own.

minus one star for workouts that are focused more on bulking you up than leaning you out.  Some of us just want to define our muscles and flatten tummies without having shoulders like a linebacker or thighs that can crack walnuts.

I hope the cult (made up largely of the Po-Po and scary big personal trainers) don't come after me for saying that!

I joined the One World family late in 2008 and it has been a great experience. The friendly atmosphere is what makes this facility truly stand out among others. Everyone from the instructors to those working out are always willing to go above and beyond to help out one another. The Crossfit and BJJ programs are the best I have ever been involved in and the training facility itself is always kept clean. Needless to say, One World is the best facility I have ever trained at and the people found there are one of a kind!

I have been training at One World for close to 3 years now, i'm completely spoiled here with the WORLD CLASS INSTRUCTION that I receive day in, day out! I do the Crossfit and Bjj program and will tell you I've gotten into the best shape of my life! The dedication and hard work I see in all the trainers and athletes in the gym is second to none! The camaraderie in the gym is amazing, everyone pushes everyone to push through all the workouts and makes sure you leave that place knowing DAMN, that's a workout! There are plenty of world class black belts instructing all the martial art classes and if you could hand out black belts  in Crossfit the trainers would have some too! Do yourself a favor come by the gym for a taste of how your life will change for the best!!! RULE: TRAIN HARD AND LEAVE YOUR EGO AT THE DOOR...oh I forgot...NO SHOES ON THE GRAY MATS!!

This is a fairly new martial arts place in Union City, located right off Alvarado Niles. It offers krav maga (an Israeli self defense system, which seems to be the latest Hollywood craze), jiu jitsu, CrossFit (which is an awesome workout system), a juniors program for kids, and other fighting/boxing conditioning programs.

I can't begin to tell you how much I love this place! First off, the instructors are amazing. Each of them are kind, funny, welcoming, and definitely know what they're doing. They bring a wealth of knowledge and passion to the gym, which is so inspiring. A lot of martial arts gyms tend to be really intimidating because you feel like you have to be fit even before you join. However, this is NOT one of those places.

Also, many martial arts gyms tend to be formal and structured. While that's completely understandable, One World is a really casual place - from the dress to the people. It won't take long before you feel completely welcome, meet some great folks, and have fun while getting healthy. (Note: this is one of the few martial arts places where you'll find instructors smiling and members actually laughing.)

A little about their offerings.... While I haven't taken advantage of ALL the classes they offer, here's what I've tried.... KRAV MAGA is a great way to start learning a "martial art." I put that in quotes because it's more of a self defense system. It's practical, easy to learn and is based on instinct. I think it's a great way to get your feet wet.

I haven't tried the BRAZILIAN JIU JITSU classes. From what I've seen, it's pretty intense, but is important to learn from a self defense standpoint. It's mostly ground fighting techniques. FYI - some of the positions you end up in can seem a bit compromising for the meek. Beware. The good thing is Mike, the instructor is fantastic!

FIT-TO-FIGHT might sound a little intimidating... and it is! However, the instructors always emphasize going at your own pace, so even if you're a beginner who's completely out of shape, you can definitely give this class a shot (just make sure to let them know you're a newbie). It's a great boxing conditioning class that will have you sweating from beginning to end. Plus, what better way is there to get out some pent up aggression than by putting on a pair of boxing gloves and punching away?

Finally, the CROSSFIT class is a really intense, unique workout that combines running, rowing, Olympic weight training, gymnastics, etc. Like Fit-to-Fight, you can do this even if you're a newbie (yes, even if you're an out-of-shape NEWBIE). Freddy, the instructor does a great job at modifying this workout for newbies, teens and even kids! This is a great way to get in and stay in shape. Plus, if you're into other sports, it really helps you get faster, stronger, and play harder. CrossFit is a challenge even for the elite athletes. But that's the great thing about it. It keeps you humble. The folks that usually take this class are really encouraging and cheer each other on (even if you're the last to finish). Plus, they make pain and suffering look like so much fun!

Some other things about this gym.... the equipment is always maintained, the facilities are always clean. Of course, the instructors and members are incredibly friendly (none of the same hard-bodied snots you find at other gyms; folks are down-to-earth and have bodies you can relate to). They offer a great shop if you need clothes, equipment, videos, etc. Since it's still new, there's some construction going on with the bathrooms.

If you're curious, I think they offer a 2-week trial period for FREE, but you should check out their site for more details.

I started one world about 2 months ago and love it. I cant get enough of the workouts ( as hard as they may be) as well as the awesome people. What makes this place great is the family atmosphere everyone is competing against each other and when they finish turns around and cheers everyone else on. I joined the gym to fill the void of competitive soccer. I needed a good workout that replicated the intensity of college level practice and Crossfit has done it! I recommend one world to everyone, even if you have never worked out! Everyday i wake up counting down the hours until i get to enter one world. I am stronger then ever! Check it out! It rocks!

This place is great! It might seem intimidating at first because you see these super strong and fit people grunting and sweating doing these amazing workouts and you think, wow, I don't belong here. But then you see others who look like average people, some smaller in height, some bigger in size, some older, some young - and they're in there working just as hard. Everyone is working out alongside one another, cheering each other through reps and intervals of running. Pretty much everyone gets to know one another by name. I've seen some amazing changes in people after just a few weeks of commitment.
I've been going to One World for the Crossfit workouts for a few months now and I can say I haven't had this kind of endurance and strength since I was in my early 20s.
As with any lifestyle change that's good for you, the first two weeks are the hardest. But once you realize what you can do and how good it feels after a good workout, you'll keep coming back for more.
