For me, the best thing about going to on-the-spot is just that... I get a quality massage at a moment's notice.  I perpetually have back and neck problems, and have received many many massages over the last 15 years of my life.  In the past, I've been frustrated with calling a massage therapist, only to find that there is not an opening until the next week.  Well, my pain couldn't wait a week!!!

There are a number of massage therapists that rotate through the week, but they tend to keep the same schedules, so you can probably catch the same person if you like him/her.  I've had 4 or 5 different ones over the past 2 years, and have always been pleased with their work.

It's a chair massage, and not a full body.  I believe they have three locations, but I've only patronized the Elephant Pharmacy Berkeley store.  Rates are very reasonable as far as chair massages go.

Update: They're GONE! ... Sniffle... Due to leasing issues with Crocker, my beloved Thursday massage treat on my lunch break is no longer an option. I believe On the Spot is still doing sessions in Berkeley (at Whole Foods and elsewhere) and may reappear in downtown SF -- I hope they do, I miss you guys!

I've seen the massage therapists from On The Spot at the Crocker Galleria on Thursday afternoons for the last few weeks, and they are incredible!  They have a small space and do 10- or 20-minute seated massage (you stay fully dressed and just sit in a massage chair) during the weekly farmer's market.  I don't know why everyone doesn't LOVE a massage, but for any of you desk jockeys with chronic stiffness in your neck and shoulders, hand or wrist pain, etc., a mere 10 minutes can do wonders and it's totally natural pain relief! Their card says they're at the Whole Foods in Berkeley and the Elephant Pharmacy in Berkeley every day in addition to the weekly Galleria gig.  This is a great intro to massage as well, if you or someone you know is nervous about doing the full monty, massage table thing.

I just had a great massage from David Wong. He anticipated my needs, found my sore spots and reduced my discomfort. His work is deep yet gentle.

You can check the schedule for Berkeley Whole Foods:

Update 11/30/07:  On the Spot is no longer at Epharm.  They are still at Whole Foods, though.

I want some hands rubbin' on me and I want it now!  And for 20 bucks, you can get your wish for 15 minutes.  What a deal, and it's just the right treat.  Be good to yourself, and others will be good to you, too.  Well, they will if you pay them 20 bucks!

I'm recommending the Epharm location.

This business belongs to a friend of mine, so I do have a little vested interest here, but the truth is that this is one of the most dependable and count-on-able chair massage deals anywhere. You can drop in to Whole Foods or Elephant Pharmacy in Berkeley, or the Market in Emeryville, and get a quick and always totally refreshing chair massage in as little as ten minutes (though go for 20 minutes if you really want to feel great).

The practitioners i've encountered are all very experienced, and if you live near one of the locations, I suggest trying out different people and when you find one you like, stick with them... that's good for you, and good for them.

On the Spot also does chair massage at offices, so if you're the one who gets to choose those extra perks for the staff, or want that in your office, give them a call. They've been doing this since the beginning of chair massage, and the attention to professionalism and quality just cannot be beat. This is one chair massage company that exists because they really believe that chair massage makes people happier, healthier and more productive... and from personal experience, I totally agree.

I highly recommend Issac Wilcox at the Emeryville location.  He works on Wednesday's until 3PM.  He is well worth it and delivers a strong, healing touch.  He's very friendly and makes you feel at ease.

Yeah, I do believe they are awesome. Different therapists at different shifts can give you a little variety of who should you go since these therapists are just renting from ONTHESPOTMASSAGE chairs. I've tried a few of them already and so far I have picked a few therapists that I do liked. If you around Berkeley either in Elephant Pharmacy or Wholefoods, give me a holler and I will recommended a therapist or two to you =)

I'm a frequent customer and I love it.

Recently, there's been allot of staff turnover of On the Spot Massage Emeryville. Some of the newer therapists are still learning, but they're not bad.

Wednesdays with Isaac W. are best. Isaac is about the best massage therapist I've ever used. If you can make it on a Wednesday you won't be regret it. If Isaac's got a customer on the chair, wait. You'll be happy you did.

On the Spot Massage actually lowered their prices recently. Now it's only $1.00 per minute. How many other business actually lowered prices?
