the side effect of the summer season - bicycle repair people become scarce.  Even if a part has been received -- getting it to the actual bike it was ordered for .... not so easy.

Joe is the consummate die hard - he really loves his work.

Joe is the man. This idea is genius and the work he does is outstanding. Nobody wants to look like a dink rolling their out of tune or broken bike down the street, even if the closest shop is only a 1/2 block away so the fact that he swoops in and gets the job done is amazing. I would highly recommend based on the quick and reasonable work he did on my girlfriends' 10+ year old bike that hadn't been ridden in about that long.

Now if only he had some snacks and beers along for the ride this would be even more awesome and, honestly, fun.

Joe offers extremely reasonable pricing for bike tuneup and repair, all from the back of his fully stocked van!   The way it works is that you call and make an appointment, then the On the Fly van drives to your place and fixes your bike right up.  Joe is really friendly and knowledgeable and is willing to give tough jobs a try.  I had stripped the screw on a disc brake rotor when trying to replace it, and he went so far as to saw/drill it out.

This is a great service for people who have a bike, don't own a car, and don't have a (reasonably priced) bike repair shop in the area.  If you're thinking about getting that carectomy, this makes it all the more doable.

This is simply one of the best services ever, and Joe is just awesome.  My partner and I haven't ridden our bikes all summer because we were lazy about taking them to get tuned up.  I was googling bike repair shops one day, and Joe's business popped up.  And my interest was immediately piqued!  I left him a message on a Friday night to see if he could come the very next day, and he called me Sat. morning and scheduled an appointment for 10.30am that day!  He knows a lot about bikes, which is good considering I know nothing.  He tuned up 3 bikes and the price was more than reasonable.  One of the bikes needed new shifters so he immediately told me what the price would be and he'd gladly order and install if I wanted him to.  I told him to go ahead and he came back the following Sat. to install.  He gives all costs up-front and nothing is hidden.  I will definitely be using Joe for all my future bike needs.  I mean, who can beat a bike truck just showing up at your back door?!  Thanks, Joe!

So this is an absolutely true story.  My best friend Anna got me a pink bicycle for my birthday in June, which I named Roxie.  She ordered it from Target and had it delivered to her office in the Loop.  Being bike-owning virgins, and having mild dementia as we do...we fully expected the bike to be delivered in all its shiny pink glory, fully functioning and ready for me to ride home from her office.  Haha.  What we received (obvious to most of you I'm sure) is a big cardboard box with Roxie in about 20 pieces and a list of necessary tools that we neither had nor knew where to locate.  Apparantly some guy named Allen has a bunch of wrenches.  Whatever.
Since my favorite solution to most dilemnas is "throw some money at it", we found out about On The Fly, and Joe was sweet as sugar and agreed to come to Anna's office to put together the bike.
    The following calamity ensued:
    1. Joe had to drive around FOREVER trying to find a spot to park the mobile repair shop at rush hour in the loop...
    2. Once he did he had to go up to the 198th floor or whatever, retrieve the box of Roxie, and haul it alone in the elevator to his van.
    3.  After putting much of Roxie together he realized a something or another was bent during shipping and would make the bike unsafe.  After calling us to let us know, we proceeded to ask him the most unusual request I'm sure he's gotten in a while:
"Will you drive the two of us to the nearest Target so we can return the bike?"

And Joe, being the sweetie pie that he is, did just that!!! Anna and I hauled our butts into the back of his bike repair/ice cream truck and he drove us around the city to a Target that had the bike in stock, then hauled the box of Roxie over to a shopping cart and brought her into the store for us!!! He never asked for a single thing!
We loved him and he's great so give him a ton of business...even if you have a car, or a convenient bike shop...it's really fun to just be lazy sometimes.  And Joe deserves it for being a very nice gentleman to two very nutso girls.

We needed two bikes tuned up for spring, and it was so convenient to have Joe come to our place instead of hauling dirty bikes around the city. It was a miserable day, but Joe was on time, friendly, thorough and efficient. He even cleaned the bikes! His prices are very competitive and he didn't charge extra for swapping out new tubes on one of the bikes. We highly recommend On The Fly.

This is the best idea ever! All you do is call up Joe, set up an appointment and he drives to your house in his truck and fixes your bike right there.  The prices are great and he is very personable.  I highly recommend this.  I won't get my bike fixed any other way in the future.

We just had Joe come out to do Spring tune ups on all the family bicycles. He could not be a nicer guy. He came right on time when he said he would. He looked at but didn't charge us for one of our bikes. He spent over an hour working on the other two bikes and another 1/2 schmoozing with me. The convenience of having someone come right to your house and do the repairs right on the spot where you can see everything going on was completely worth it. I'll definitely use him again!

I love this service - they are so professional and easy to use. I don't have to worry about transporting my bike when it is broken or has a flat. They bring speedy, experienced service right to my door. Thanks On the Fly!
