First thing I noticed was how clean the place was which is a major plus for me. I ordered a cup of coffee and a ($4 )bagel with cream cheese and lox. It tasted just like I imagined it to be-it has fresh slices of tomato, fresh red onion, capers (love love) and thinly sliced salmon that will melt in your mouth. Order this baby and you will not be disappointed!

I also noticed they have plenty of board games you can play while drinking/eating. I think they also offer a free wi-fi which is awesome! They also have a collection of vinyls on the wall and I'm not sure if they are selling it... either way I am a fan of this place =)

The young start-up company that I work for spent the first 6 months of our existence holding meetings in cafes across the City.    On the Corner is the best one we found for such meetings.

The room is spacious with large tables and free WiFi.   Food and coffee is pretty good too.

When I first lived to the city last summer, I lived across the street from Alamo Square Park and frequented the cafes on Divisadero on a daily basis.

On the Corner was one of the last cafes that I tried out. When I first came in, I was really digging the music that they played. The Beatles were on repeat, and there was a piano that patrons could come in and play around with. Some guy brought in his music sheets and practiced a song.

The owner, though I forget his name, was a really nice guy.

They had free wi-fi, which is great since I do work on my laptop often, but I remember it being the zNet wi-fi, which puts a two-hour time limit on your service. That's always a peeve of mine.

I like that they hold events at cafe, such as game and move nights, and were doing live shows for awhile. Next time I'm in the hood, I'll be sure to stop by for a game of Scrabble and some beer.

Cool place. Free wi-fi and nice tables at which to work, so it's ideal for getting some things done. The staff has been really friendly on every visit and really helpful with food choices. The tuna sandwich was delicious and cheap (two adjectives that should be used in the same sentence when refering to sandwiches). Sometimes there is piano playing which is also a plus in the event you like pianos or music or both. Only downers are location (don't even think about driving there) and sometimes it's hard to find a seat.

5 stars for being an excellent place for getting work done!  roomy tables, nice but non-distracting music, difficult to get wifi ie no distractions...i always go here when i need to get shit done but want a pleasant environment! 3 stars for the menu which is a bit pricey and offers little i can eat (which is sadly vegan). the drinks are just ok. all in all though, i go here all the damn time! Also, i love that they stay open late.

This place is pretty nice. The best feature is the live music on occasion and large tables for studying or playing board games (if you choose). I am not sure what it is but it lacks a certain *something* to make it feel comfortable. Never wanted to try any of the food because it stares out at you from behind a glass case. You know what i mean? You're looking at a piece of Quiche and you just start to think it's birthday was several days ago..With that said the happy hour isn't bad Beer $2.50 no draft though.

The food was good, and it's a good place to hang out. I loved how they had board games. We played Ticket to Ride until they closed. Get the Buffalo Mozzarella Pesto sandwich on Dutch Crunch! Delicious. I was told that their drinks are not as good as they used to be, however.

Pretty disappointing.

I was greeted with a "What the hell are you doing here" look.

The cappuccino was a joke (Resteamed milk foam just piled on top of overextracted and bitter espresso)

The chicken sandwich would have been good except for the fact that the person making it didn't wash his hands - after handling money and scratching his hair.

Despite all this, I still smiled and said thanks when I got my order - the response was "you're welcome" with rolling eyes.

I guess I'm not cool enough to go there so I won't

I've been to On the Corner a handful of times now and each time it delivers what every cafe should -  it's clean, quiet (mostly), quick with the drinks, roomy, and with the right touch of decor. I like the arts and crafts movement light fixtures and the cozy seats and couches.

They have $2.50 beers from 7-10pm and on Thursdays it looks like they have a movie night - so I'll have to hit it up before I move.

This place is a gem of a cafe so if you're in the hood, you should check it out!

pretty cute, nice and roomy, good variety of food and drink.  not too crowded, so didn't seem too hard to find an outlet, but the free wifi is limited to two hours.  for this reason, i'd probably choose oakside cafe for working- also oakside seems a bit cozier.

And just to add to this review, the other day I had lunch here, and the fresh sandwiches are really awesome as well.  At the end of the day it comes down to fresh, quality ingredients, and taking the time to do it right, and not cut corners, and OTC (this is how we like to refer to On The Corner) takes pride in doing that, whether with their coffee, chai, desserts, or food items.

This place was my first SF alternate office for a couple of weeks. I really enjoyed their selection of music, besides if you're lucky you can enjoy the delightful piano play of the tragically unknown artist of the day, and if you're really lucky he won't play in such a dramatic way like he's just having an out-of-body experience and doesn't realizes there are people around him. Besides I often realized I don't have to use my iPod because of the nice background music. They have tons of table and card games to play, tasty sandwiches, amazing hot chocolates and a selection of fine black teas. The place is comfortable, especially the huge sofa at the left is a nice place to work. They're offering free wifi only for the first two hours and it's also sliced into two one hour sections, but you can pay a full day if you really need more time there. Or just drink a tea, wait a little bit and reconnect again surfing to the ISP provider's login page directly, since the security system is not so strict.

The only reason I'm updating this is because I got 2 flake-outs in a row. Last night I went for game night and ordered a beer and some of their delicious spinach and feta quiche (which I've had before and it's yummy).  I got the beer. I waited a good 10 or 15 min for the quiche which usually is microwaved so I wasn't sure why it was taking so long. I went up to the counter to find out the girl didn't even put it in! Then this a.m my husband went down to get some coffee and I requested a Large soy chai.  Not knowing the contents was wrong, he came back with a medium. No big deal, but it was a regular latte with milk! If it was soy I would've drank it.
I really like the atomsphere there. I hope they get it together a bit more.

I'm not sure what I am doing writing a review for a coffee shop when I don't drink coffee but here goes.  I come here to study usually getting a vanilla italian soda however recently my work's new health challenge is a detox so I now get herbal tea instead.  The tea comes in a teapot if you get the large size, a teapot!!

I like the lighting, I like the couches, I like the weird David Bowie German (perhaps) remake, I like their soy chai latte but I don't like the 2 hour limit on the internet.  Like I said i come here to study and will be camped out for hours.  I do try and buy a drink or salad on and off throughout my 5 hour stay just so I'm not a huge freeloader.

I haven't tried their breakfast sandwiches because I refuse to deviate from the Oak Side Cafe but I imagine they are okay.

I do need to point out one more thing, when people hop on the piano it is distracting and loud so be prepared if that happens.  Oh and Wednesday is board game night!!!!

Update:  I confirmed it is David Bowie in Portuguese, not German.  My apologies to the Germans and the Portuguese I offended, unfortunately sometimes I can't suppress my American bubble.

Update II:  Apparently every night during the week they have something going on.  Movie night on Thursday, Monday or Tuesday has the rowdiest knitters I have ever seen, Saturday afternoon they had a blue grass band complete with a kazoo and washboard.  Is it good for studying?  Sunday nights or if you can handle a lot of noise, otherwise head elsewhere.

I write this review as I am sinking into a large, leather loveseat.
A laid-back Saturday crowd surrounds me sipping Chai lattes, special housed beers, or drip coffees. The cafe contains everything you'd expect: food, drink, and games. An old piano keeps me company on the far wall side. The room is open and spacious and there are so many possibilities with their seat arrangements.
I have one complaint: the wi-fi has a 2-hour limit. I had to pay for the 24-hour trial! Seriously, the days of paying for internet should be long-gone. Anyway, they make up for it with the cool vibes.
It's worth spending a day kicking back and catching up on any sort of work you have planned for the day.

Okay I like this place. The staff is very friendly. Not overly, just enough. I got a bagel with cream cheese! ATTENTION: Bagels are the best BUT even though they are simple some can really mess it up like burning them, not perfectly slicing them and having the right amount of cream cheese. This place did it to perfection and just for cutting it in half like a small sandwich the way I eat it, I love them for that. I also got the Iced Vanilla Latte but it was too strong for me and I only got 1 shot, but my stomach is easily irritated by many things and for that I have to be extra careful otherwise I'll be crying to my man later. Just ask him. Extra points for being open late and down the block from my bf's house. I will come see you later on tonight and study, yess I'd hang out on this corner any night (corny, I know) HA!

On the Corner has slowly but steadily been steering me away from Katz, Peets and Oak St Cafe for my coffee and morning scone/croissant/bagel/whathaveyou. And with good reasons:

Convenience- it is the closest of the nearby coffee shops
Quality- best coffee amongst the local coffee spots, homemade treats (blueberry muffin wont be easy on your body but it will on those taste buds!)
Vibe- it very much has the neighborhoody quality without being too hole-in-the-wall-ish, magazines, newspapers, comfy seats, artwork and a piano give a welcoming feeling as if to say "come in and stay a while..."

It's earned its place on my list of regular go-to local spots.

On the Corner has been around for a year or so, but only recently have I begun to visit it regularly. The cafe has a sandwich/salad menu that is pretty good for a coffee shop, and the outsourced pastries are decent. The coffee is quite good, some of the best in the neighborhood. Then again, North Panhandle is not North Beach with regard to great coffee.

The coffee counter women were friendly and attentive. I like the design of the cafe, because they have actually spread out the tables instead of trying to fit as many in as humanly possible, like a few other coffee shops in the hood. It is a great spot to do some work in, because not only is there room to spread out a bit, it is quiet. (Cafe Abir, for example, blasts their music, and everyone is sitting on top of each other...)  Overall, I like On the Corner, and I find myself coming going frequently these days.

What did you say? Board games and beer are available in this establishment?

That's right. I was skeptical at first too, but it's true. And the beers are $2 during happy hour.

Oh, and I've never had any trouble with snotty baristas, they always respectfully supply the scrabble board and a few Stone IPA's.

The coffee is all dripped through a Chemex. That is nerdy good coffee.

They bake their own muffins and scones. I saw the batter with my own eyes. That is good pastries.

They have nice leather sofas and armchairs, lots of light, and a nice quiet ambiance full of people working.

My first time here, I will surely return. Earlier the wifi was like molasses but now all is good.

Support a great independent cafe that is doing stuff in a quality way. don't believe the other reviews. Decide for yourself!

I've been in twice and both times was told that "wifi is down". This either means that their service blows (and shouldn't for an, ummm, coffee shop) or they're lying to me and don't provide service.

The coffee and meager food choices are ok. The staff is fairly aloof.

I walked down two blocks to Bean Bag and got a better and cheaper cup of coffee, very kind service and immediate wifi. Obviously a no-brainer between the two.

Very cute cafe with nice comfy couches, board games (on Wednesday they even have a designated game night), good coffee, nice looking food. I had a bagel with cream cheese, a decaf coffee (it was night time) and a steamed vanilla milk. All were good - nothing mind blowing, but solidly enjoyable. Excellent music playing, looked like plenty of plug ins for lap top usage.

My heart is still with Mojo, but they close so early on Sunday that I took my self a few more blocks to check out this place. It was fairly busy, and when I said as much to the guy behind the counter, he said that was pretty normal.

Finally, some really comfortable couches!

WiFi access courtesy of ZRnet though so one star down because you have to look at an ad to sign on and another star because there are very few outlets and those that there are, aren't anywhere near the very few tables.

And that is the sum total of my complaints. Normal cafe food (baked goods, no protein to speak of) and a friendly staff of baristas. Plenty of board  games lying around if you are into that.

Stop by and relax. It's a good place to hide from the day and at least it's close to a really good comic book store. :)

Another coffee shop I read at frequently.  It's almost always quiet during the afternoon and the couches are great if you've just got a book; if a computer or notebook, the tables are square, so no awkward fit.

I have liked the three teas I've tried from their list (Silver Needle and Tung Ting among them) and getting a pot is a great deal; it stays warm through about four or five cups if you sip like I do and that is pretty good.

The staff seem chill and one of the girls always seems to be at work on some sort of delicious looking dessert (which I've neglected to try so far).  It is a bit drafty if people are coming in and out, but comfortable overall.

I was introduced to this place about two weeks ago, and I've been coming back quite a bit since.  Everyone that says how great the Chai is is right. I mean, it must be, because I was there on a Monday morning and they were all out!  Mildly frustrating, but that's the price you pay for going to a popular coffee shop.

I've been there three or four times, and I am already recognizing the regulars, and Rich, the owner behind the counter.  The art on the walls is eclectic and from a few different local artists.  They have live music sometimes, and play chill jazz music during the day.  The food is pretty tasty looking as well.  Fresh Pizzas, and cookies, etc etc.

This place was definitely needed to help make this part of town a little cozier.

I'm totally in love with this place! I went in for my first time the other day on a whim... I was about to head out the door to Central (it's my true love), but I opted to try the new place that I remembered walking by a month earlier while it was still closed. That was a very, very, very good decision.

The place itself is gorgeous... They have amazingly high ceiling, just like NOPA, which I absolutely adore! They had nice, darkly polished hardwood floors with insanely comfortable leather couches scattered throughout the large room. Absolutely beautiful!

As for the coffee/food, both amazing. I opted for a non-fat latte and grabbed one of their homemade chocolate chip cookies while I was paying. Oh my, I'm STILL dreaming about that cookie! I think it was the best cookie I have ever had. No joke.

Anyway, great place, good coffee/food, and a friendly staff. All in all, I'm sold on this place.

I am sticking to my 5 star rating even though folks like Liz S have not been so happy. The food is great and the staff is great. I was sitting at the bar the night Ms Liz S had her quiche order forgotten.. but what she did not put in was that she sat and played games all night long after that. Baristas are human, and sometimes they mess up. I have never had anything but great food and stellar service there, and beyond that it is a nice change from the skanky liquor store that used to be there. It is a great gathering place for the neighborhood and the owner is kind enough to let customers use the batch of really cool games that he has stashed. Hater Yelpers need to get real. Maybe your hubby messed up your drink.. but whatever.. THIS PLACE STILL RULES.

You know that asshole with the Macbook and the white headphones and the hooded sweatshirt and the dark glasses and the messy hair who sits at your favorite cafe nursing the 1.50 cup of coffee they bought 6 hours ago constantly re-loading Twitter and Gawker sites all day long? And you just want them to go away? That's me, bitches!

On The Corner is a good place to annoy you while I become a walking Apple commercial and cliche. They have outlets, tasty coffee, a clean bathroom, and it's just big enough that you don't feel that you are all up in everyone else's business. And they have mini cupcakes!

Every day I walk down Divis, I can tell the neighborhood is changing.  For the best of course.  Clothing shops going in, NEX going out, Coffee shops coming in to what was a dilapidated convenience store...that's right, On the corner.

The staff is lovely here, and they are trying with all their might to provide a great environment with great food.  We had the mozz and pesto sandwich, as well as the turkey...and I'll tell you what.  What a sandwich.  Made with love and fine ingredients, this place has it all.

Great coffee too.  Apparently, we learned when we were talking with the owner, they get their coffee from the dude who helped put together Blue Bottle.  Holler!

In addition to the food and beverages, a piano and sax were a nice treat for lunch.  Maybe not the best place to study...but if you just want to chill and listen to Jazz, you should motor on over here.  Bring your kid too...they have a kid's play table, and a changing table for babies in the bathroom.  Not for everyone, but its more than Ive seen in a while.

Just keep the kids poop off the food, piano and coffee, and we will be in good shape!

Down on the corner, that's where I was earlier today. Well actually, I was inside On the Corner, grabbing a delish daNish.

The place looks promising, I mean a jazz duo was in the house, and I hear that more of that is on the way. There are some leather chairs and sofas (perhaps they need a few more tables), and it's free wi-fi for you non-social types.

This one of those yelps where you regret spreading the word, as I'm sure the joint will be packed in no time flat.

More updates as I discover OTC in more depth, but expect to find me there soon, catching up on work or digesting a good read. Anyone for chess, wouldn't that be nice?

Ok, I know it looks like the most generic coffee shop in the world. And dear god, the name sure doesn't help. But here's the thing - they make their own chai. And it's amazingly good, hot or iced.

Coupled with open to 11 every night, 2 hours of free wireless, cheap sandwiches and big leather couches that no one minds if you spread out on, there's no reason not to like this place.

i feel so naughty taking off a star but On The Corner has been chipping away at that 3-star review ever since that first time i went in for tea.

since then, i've come in several times, in the evening mostly, seeking something warm, delicious, and/or caffienated. for the life of me i cannot seem to obtain a good espresso drink from this place. i've tried a few different drinks and they have all come to me at either an inappropriate temp (burn-your-tongue-hot or bacteria-appealing-lukewarm) or tasting like their espresso was squeezed out of a pile of mud.

while the space is really comfortable and inviting, and the staff is pretty nice, the fact that a reliable cup of somethin'somethin' is not an option makes me think that the last time i was here should probably be just that: the last time.

I love this place. I'm not saying there are not any flaws, but it's won a permanent place in my heart. The staff are awesome, friendly, and hard working. The owner is really generous with the incredible collection of expensive board games they have on deck to share. Wednesday game nights are fantastic, full of people who will happily teach you their incredibly intricate game, share tips, and hang out. And now Thursdays they have Movie Nights (!) with popcorn, sangria, and a huge screen the owner built. They're showing Princess Monoke this week, a clear indication of the high class of this place. The drinks are great (chai has already be described in detail), the baked good are homemade (they need some vegan options though!) and the couches are a rare treat in SF.
