10 reviews for On the Border Mexican Grill & Cantina
If the service was better I'd have given this place 3 stars - but unfortunately the service was atrocious.
Came out here on a friday night - you know the weekend night where waiters should be amped to make some money - and we were waited on by a grouchy server. The lady was not friendly so I could take that - just bring the food out quickly. Our party finished the chips and dip and she finally came around after waiting forever to take our order. She just stared at us awkwardly as we went through our requests and she walked away without noticing the chip basket was empty.
After trying to locate her for a few minutes, I flagged her down and asked for more chips. She didn't say a word and just grabbed the basket. The food came out at a reasonable time and it was served hot by 2 food runners who were very friendly. We were thinking of asking them why couldn't they switch with Groucho and wait on us instead. The food was very good and I ordered the Dos XX fish tacos. Everyone was pleased with their meal.
The server came to our table immediately after the plates were delivered and asked if everything was ok. Of course it's ok, the food was just placed in front of me. The server disappeared for about 30 minutes so when people needed something she was nowhere to be found. After seeing me looking around a manager asked if everything was ok. Telling him we needed our plates cleared since the table was small and empty dishes were everywhere, he took them away himself. The place wasn't even that busy and the server was not waiting on any other tables in the area. We just wanted to get out and skipped dessert since we didn't want to spend all night there.
The service was great but the food was blah. The tortilla soup was over cheesy, the queso dip was congealed, our entree's were tiny and nothing like the pictures!!
Our waitress... Katie I think was really nice and fried our tortillas to order!!! That was about the only thing that was fresh. I was excited to see fresh guacamole on the menu but when we tried to order it they were out of avocados!!!
If you want "Mexican" keep driving and go to Chipotle.
I have to agree with some of the other reviews in that the service here stinks, but it is a chain restaurant we're talking about. Aside from that I love the complimentary chips and salsa, but mostly the spicey melted cheese dip!
The food was good and the waitress was quick to refill drinks.
I love coming here and understand their limitations.
When I started coming to On the Border, it was quite good. Lately though, not so great. The service is lacking, the food is not good. The only good thing they have is their drink specials.
Suffice to say, I have not returned to On the Border.
I'm here frequently. Good service great food! Comfortable seating and a great menu with a variety to choose from.
All of your mexican favorites with an american twist!
This place started off really good. But since its opening is been on a down hill race to terrible. First of all they make you wait for a table when the restaurant is not even full. Great tactic to increase the bar sales. The try to ask you to wait by the bar, pretty smart, not! The food is okay, when you get in time and at the right temp. So basically, its a gamble. I have spoke to the manager on various occasions and there has been little change. Good Luck on your visit.
When I'm in the mood for some American style Mexican food, this is the place to go in the area. They serve complimentary chips and salsa, the food is pretty good. They serve from fajitas to quesadillas to burrito's etc.
On the Border, Pembroke Pines. - They have the best Margaritas! Better than Chili's (sorry!). The chips and salsa are complimentary. Try the guacamole and the Tortilla Soup, really good. Service is always great, the bar included. I'm here often, too! :)
Our service was the worst i've ever had. The waitress, Kathryn, showed up 7 minutes after we first sat down. She got pissy with us because our bill was only $23. So she ordered double shots in our drinks without telling us and tried to get the bill over 30. When she was called out for trying to sneak drinks,we didn't order, onto the check she claimed she would take care of it. I gave her my credit card without looking the 2nd time(assuming she wasn't trying to rob me and the 1st time was an honest mistake) and she hadn't changed anything and charged us the whole bill, including the fake drinks we didn't order. She also acted passive aggresive the entire meal. She pissed me off and ruined my whole night. If you go ask for anyone but Kathryn. Or, if you insist on Kathryn check the bill before paying so she doesn't rob you blind.
The food is not bad, pretty much average for a Mexican chain restaurant. They do have very good chips and salsa though. And even though the place was crowded, the service was excellent. We had two waiters at our attention the whole time. Drinks were refilled before I even had to ask. It was scary good. Good service can really turn an average meal into a positive dining experience. I wish other restaurants would follow suit.
