We checked in and quickly got to our room, a hacienda far, far away from the main grounds. Cool if you want quiet time and don't need internet access. Unfortunately this techy-a-go-go needs internet and some top-notch pool-spying seats always.. Oh, and we moved alright.. to the dismay of the young girl working the front desk. Tsk-tsk madame, no skin off your back right? Ha! You'd think we were trying to pull teeth here..

New room was beautiful. Spacious bathroom with a large, luxurious tub, separate shower, large sink and vanity and a separate vanity outside the bathroom.. king-size plush beds.. a sitting area.. and oh, my-- a balcony to spy on the golfers while enjoying my morning java! I was happy, and I forgot all about that poor ol' girl out front.

The pool is simply lavish, and they offer cabanas for a great deal. We were waited on with the perfect poolside consistency and I liked the little pullout flat-screen television while sipping my lemonade.. Who doesn't like to catch up on trashy reality shows when getting some sun?

When it came time to eat, we found we were out of luck.. only two restaurants on the grounds: a steakhouse that was closed two nights a week [and go figure, the two nights we were staying] and a wannabe pub that was open. The first night we ventured out, the second night we had the 'pub' food taken up to our room. It wasn't bad really, generic salmon with alfredo sauce.

Breakfast was charming and the huevos rancheros is something you shouldn't pass up. It was all-inclusive: the half-ripe melon, juicy pineapple, cereal, etc. and coffee! oh boy.. But in heaven, they don't wear dirty uniforms now, do they? No no no... and maybe one extra hostess/waitress to keep guests from waiting ten minutes before seating themselves when the sign really said 'Please Wait to be Seated'..

Last words: Gorgeous resort, but needs some work.

Ive stayed at The Omni a few times... Because of that, this time I was upgraded to a hacienda... The hacienda was huge...heres the dealio..Its far away from the actual resort... and no wifi... would be great for a family...But I had to have wifi.. I was disappointed when I called and needed to be placed back in the actual resort room.. I swear I got attitude. No offer of the bellhop..No offer to switch keys without my having to drive back to the lobby and physically just do it myself..and Im sure Im sounding just spoiled! Hello! Its a 5star resort..why no wifi in a casita room?? ONCE all that was settled, the room was beautiful... more like a junior suite.. sitting area... roman type soaking tub..dressing area.. nice patio to overlook the sunset on the golf course and mountains... Room service attendees are nice...but limited in choices...
Restaurant choices are just about nil... Bobs Steak&Chop House is supposedly a very good choice.. but was closed the two nites we were there... so we opted to drive into Tucson to Sullivans..
The Cabana rental is a very good deal.. comes with several amentities..and worth it to get out of the desert sun... rent for 4+ hours and you get 20% off of the almost nil choices of food options.. but nonetheless you can spend it at the sports bar...we did order room service and ate on the patio... enjoyed a nice red wine... the resort is quiet.. and Omnis are known for top notch service.. the rooms are beautiful..as are the grounds.. and the pool... and the golf course... could do better with the restaurants.. and the waitresses at breakfast wore naughty naughty dirty uniforms... and theres the issue with the attitudey front desk clerk...oh well, we all have bad days!

The Haciendas (converted timeshare duplexes) can be a great deal at the right price.  We spent two nights about a week apart in the Haciendas and had a good time.

Pluses:

- Haciendas are huge 1 bedrooms - 957 square feet - great for the family

- Full kitchen

- Service is very friendly, beds and sheets are excellent quality and you can get a good night's sleep

- A/C controls are fully yours - no automated thermostat that limits your temperatures or shuts off sporadically.

- Room service food is EXCELLENT

Minuses:

- Some Haciendas are old - we got an old one one night, and a renovated newer one the next night.  The newer one was much nicer inside.

- Room service trash sits outside and doesn't get picked up overnight or apparently until you leave.  Kinda yucky considering it's outside.

- Some ice machines not working - only a few them amongst the sprawling hacienda compound.

- Bob's steakhouse isn't worth the money

The Omni is getting a major face lift right now, which will, apparently, be stretching on into next year.

This worked in my favor when I had all of my wedding guests stay here because the Omni, though under construction, is still a lovely hotel. The redone rooms are updated and shiny, but even the old rooms are homey and inviting, just not as jet-setter slick.

As much as I enjoyed the hotel, the spa was a bit lackluster. I scheduled a massage for myself, and also a friend visiting from Sweden. And yes, she actually got a Swedish massage. Part of the reason we chose the Omni Spa was because of the whirlpool. Well, it was out of order when we arrived.

If someone had called us to let us know that ahead of time, I would give the Omni five whole stars. And I'd definitely stay in the hotel again.

Wow, I guess everyone else gives this hotel higher ratings based on value for buck.  I, alas, can't overlook the overall lacklusterness of the place, although I had quite an overall lovely time.

Minuses include:

1980's converted-from-timeshare-"casita" decor.  I guess they are updating the rest of the hotel (and I was strongly urged at checkin to move from the casita to a regular, updated room) but the casitas haven't been touched since they were done in 1985.  If you are here for a long stay, howevs, the casita becomes almost "homey".

A terrible gym.  I almost killed myself on the treadmill.  Literally, you should have seen the blood splattered all over the place.

Layout. Navigating from Casita to main hotel to gym to Legends to Casita is confusing.  There are not well-marked passageways.  You can call them to be picked up in a golf cart, but who wants to tip a guy for a 300 meter walk?

Room service/Maid service:  After they clean your room, they leave the dirty dishes and towels slung over your front porch wall.  Room service detrius sat on the wall from noon to the next morning.  Um, bugs? Rodents? General yuck?

Pluses:  Legend's outdoor fireplace, table shuffleboard, largeness of said Casita and ability to spread out, low occupancy = no other people, complimentary wine and cheese platter.  Full kitchen, should you choose to use it.

I stay at many hotels across the country including Four Season's and Ritz Carlton's but this is my hotel of choice when I come to Tucson. The rooms are huge and very clean and comfortable. The staff is friendly and warm. Room service is good and the select guest program offers free complimentery pressings, bottle water, and coffee / orange juice brought to you in the morning. This is a great hotel and the grounds are nice too. Also, Bob's Steak & Chop House is top rated and is located right next door. I have been there twice and have never been disapointed.

My ex-roomie got a great deal when she negotiated a block of rooms for her wedding weekend over the Labor Day holiday.  For $75 we got an enormous Casita suite which included a separate living room, a full kitchen, and very large master bedroom with a California King and bath.  The boy and I wondered whether it was larger in square footage than our current apartment.  Upon arriving, you are escorted to the front desk by the doorman, and the front desk greets you by name.  Doorman then gets in his golf cart and leads you to your Casita several meters away from the main building.

I must admit that the suite did have the feeling of an apartment that had been transformed into a hotel room...  The kitchen was a bit incongruous with its florescent lighting, 70s-style tilework and outdated-style cabinetry.  Nonetheless, everything else was well-appointed, the terrycloth robes and towels soft and thick, and the air conditioning easily controlled and accessible.  Room service is speedy although the menus in the room needed to be updated (I ordered something that the kitchen apparently, no longer offered).

The rest of the campus seemed deserted during this time of year with the exception of the wedding party -- perhaps it was because of some construction going on at a different part of the hotel?  We were not bothered in the least by any construction noise and our stay was very pleasant and quite possibly, the best accommodations deal EVAR.

Note: we were not charged the extra resort fee Louise O. mentions above, though we did see it listed in the hotel paperwork.

Just for the golf course:

This place made me buy a pair of shorts because they said they don't allow cargo shorts (small pockets on the sides).  Really?  I've golfed all around the country (both public and private) and never had that happen.  Wore the EXACT same shorts at DC Ranch the week before and didn't have a problem.  This place is not even close to DC Ranch.  I guess they have to hold on to that last bit of elitist imperialism since this course isn't too much better than your average resort course (see: Wigwam).  Now I'm the proud owner of some way-too-short, pleated, NIKE (friggin NIKE) shorts that only a real Omni Tucson National douchebag would wear.

Large suites with mini-bar and wet bar. Our spacious room had a sitting area and a small table with a petite balcony overlooking the pool. Nice "resort" touches like a variety of men's and women's magazines on the coffee table, walk-in closet, separate shower and tub. The pool was very nice and had a wonderful evening swim.

Note: Had an extra resort fee of $12.50 per day per room. These hidden charges are my pet peeves, don't they build in the resort fees with the room rates?

Yeah!  I'm going back up to the Omni this weekend.  My man holds a golf tournament every year there and gets a great rate on several rooms.  They get 5 stars because their staff is super friendly and most importantly because  I love their ***GRAPEFRUIT*** products at their spa that smell DELICIOUS -- heehee :D
