This is the nicest hotel I've stayed at in San Francisco!
I got the great opportunity to stay at the hotel for a business event our company was attending. We were welcomed warmly by the front staff and the bell staff as we valet our car. Check in was quick even though the nice lady at the front desk kept apologizing for being a slow check in (which it wasn't ).
Our room was gorgeous...comfy king sized bed, clean bathroom, and beautiful view on the 16th floor. It is a very convenient location and down the street from our second stop of the night, Bubble Lounge.
Gorgeous hotel, fantastic staff, what's not to love?
Cheers!
5 Stars!!!
Best hotel I've been to in SF..............PERIOD!!!
All of the staff (check-in; Door; Housekeeping) were great
The elevators were the smoothest that I have ever been in @ a hotel.
The room was very nice.
Convenient location.
Not too much noise at all (although noise doesn't bother me...I noticed a lot of people bring it up in hotel reviews in SF)
We'll definitely be back.
Very clean room, helpful staff, Bob's was okay (little too pricey for what you get but hell it's totally convenient) and so close to so much.
I had a very nice 2 nights here & would for surely go back.
The staff is exceptionally helpful and friendly. The building was beautifully renovated and has been well kept since opening back in 2002. Not a big fan of their restaurant Bob's -- although the corner bar is a decent place to have a drink and keep an eye on the cable cars and some sports on the boob tube.
Great location on California Street. You can walk a couple of blocks to the Tadich Grill or Aqua. The cable cars go right by if you're in the mood for going for a ride.
I haven't stayed in one of their regular rooms. Only in their corner suites. For a suite, they seem a little on the small side. The bedroom's OK -- but the bathroom and especially the sitting area just don't blow me away like some of the suites I've stayed in at other places like the Ritz-Carlton on Stockton Street.
That said, this is still a very nice place to stay.
Because Pearl is a really good friend, I came out of retirement for her wedding. I dusted off my big box of makeup, filled my train case to the brim, stacked it up on one of those chinky, fold up, pulling hand carts and bungee'd them to the cart. And, to further my Chinese-ness, I took the bus all the way down town with all my makeup in tow, to the hotel, to do makeup for the biggest party of her life.
I should have taken a taxi.
The night before, I was up really really late (3am) working on a paper. And Pearl wanted the makeup to start by 9am meaning I woke up at 7am. I should have taken a taxi.
After I got off the 21, I walked up Montgomery Street to California. There are several instances where I am a worry wort and overly concerned about details. Dragging my makeup over the cable car tracts, up and down the bumpy sidewalks, around the Saturday morning bums and through the lost tourists is one such instance where I worry that the vibrations of the jaunt will destroy my fragile artifacts. Luckily, I have written "FRAGILE" in huge letters on my box.
When I got to the hotel in all my homeless-chic glory, the very nice doorman opened the door for me. I stepped in and in my fatigue, it took me a moment to realize that the handicap ramp was to the left, beyond the cluster of tourists. The very nice doorman noticed my hesitation immediately and just as I was making up my mind to pick up the cart and carry it down the stairs, he was already there, picking up the heavy end, and helping me down. At the bottom, he set it down oh-so-gently. I was so grateful. What a great way to introduce a guest of a guest to the hotel!
At the receptionist, I fumbled over my words and couldn't remember who the reservation was under. I told her both of their names, and both of their last names, but not strung together and not very clearly. I felt really embarrassed and a little bit overwhelmed by the fatigue. However, she was really professional about it and made it seem like it was her fault that she couldn't find the room number or the correct name and it was not my mental incompetence that got in the way. After a quick call up to the room to confirm that I was on my way up, she sent me to the elevators.
Upstairs, the rooms were a little bit small. The suite was the size of a dorm room, not including the bathroom. Possibly smaller. The furniture was huge and plush, consisting of oversized and overstuffed couches and armchairs. Too many if you ask me. The sleeping area was also filled with a huge bed and huge armchair. There was a roll-away bed and someone said it was crap to sleep on. After that was taken away, there was a little more space.
Soon, the suite was a flurry of steam, dresses, people, hair, makeup, hairspray and voices. The room service dining came really quick. I know we were constantly on the phone with the room service or front desk and constantly requesting food, oatmeal, 2 poached eggs, coffee filters, tea bags, sewing kits, delivery for lunch, and other arrangements. Everything was delivered really quickly.
I have to agree that the windows were little bit weird. There was not much light in the room, and the windows were high up, set deep and required a stick to open. I set up my makeup in the corner and got to work.
6 people and 1 bride later, everyone left for photos. I slowly packed up my stuff and ate my sandwich. Housekeeping came at that time to try to salvage the train wreck of a room. There were no more clean towels, the bathroom looked like it had exploded with hair appliances, hairspray, makeup. As I was about to leave, the housekeeping asked me to remove the stuff from the bed so she could make it up for the bride and groom. I think they're not suppose to touch personal items. So I shuffled it all in to a shopping bag and tucked it around the room. I think she took care of the rest.
On my way out, the friendly doorman (I could not tell you if it was the same guy or not), helped me up the stairs. He saw me coming, raced down and helped me up, setting down the cart oh-so-gently again. The interaction was only a few seconds long but he'd noticed that the boxes had makeup, and politely inquired as to how the makeup session went. This is a great guy to have working for the hotel. Absolutely great. He is the best person to have greet and the best person to leave the last impression.
I used this hotel for my wedding day/night in 2006. I can't say enough about how wonderful the hotel staff was about making arrangements for us. We got a two-room corner suite that was beautiful, and they let us check in very early (before 11am ) so that we--bride and bridesmaids--could get ready at a relaxed pace. It was so nice to have two bedrooms and bathrooms for all the "girly" activity and an additional living space for those were weren't being primped.
The rooms were configured in a way that was very conducive to privacy, so, after the wedding, my cousin was able to have the second bedroom overnight while we enjoyed our honeymoon suite.
The entire hotel--rooms, lobby, stairs--is beautiful and made for great pre-wedding pictures.
When we arrived back at the room after the wedding, the staff had chocolate covered strawberries and champagne waiting in the room for us. Hand towels were shaped into hearts and swans--very nice, romantic touches.
I learned about Omni hotels when I worked as an assistant to a very particular VP. She always chose Omni hotels when traveling if it was an option. I certainly wasn't disappointed!
Parking will be expensive, but that's always the case in San Francisco.
Although I have not guested at this hotel, I can verify the accuracy of exceptional service. I had a standing, pre-paid guaranteed room that I needed to cancel. After unsuccessful attempts with the main reservations center, I decided to call the hotel directly. The front desk manager was unable to cancel but transferred me to the general manager who called me within twelve hours later to assist me in canceling and fully refunding my stay. Remarkable service bar none.
i found out that the Omni Hotel Chain does not allow Adult Content on their Movies on Demand in the rooms. This is freedom of choice. A few hotels have succumbed to this. I personally do not watch this type of entertainment, but i feel they let themse;ves be pushed around by some fanatics. I read about this in an article., and confirmed it. I have stayed at the Omni. Nice place. Good food at Bobs Steakhouse. They are also pet friendly. The parking is expensive. I really dislike it when Valet practically jumps into my car to get my keys,. It takes me some time to power downthese days, Cell phones, blue tooth, shoes, coats, just stuff. I can never just jump out of my car and give them my keys on the fly. I guess women never work Valet because it is a dangerous job in big cities.
I book a lot of our folks here, and the people are great but the system SUCKS. They won't take CC payment over the phone -- you get a PDF that you have to fax back in! And the guy on the phone had no idea that you can't type into a PDF. That's not exactly good service.
Come on -- can't take payment over the phone? In the SF Financial District?!?! Put down the purple crack and back away from reality!
My absolute favorite hotel in SF...and probably the world!! LOL... actually The Peninsula in Bangkok is my #1.. but this is a close 2nd!! I have stayed here so many times and tend to compare all other hotels to it!
In addition, they are VERY accommodating to dogs.. you wouldn't believe all the free goodies your dog gets, just for staying here!
Also.. the private party rooms are excellent as well! I held my wedding rehearsal dinner here (about 7 years ago) and it was excellent!
I love the OMNI... and feel they set the standard for hotels everywhere!
Stayed one nite. The doormen are very nice. The bed is comfy. They have complimentary fruit in the lobby in the afternoon. Place is a solid 4 star hotel and good location. The parking though unfortunately is really expensive at $50. So, luckily we had a friend that let us park at the Mandarin Hotel down the block. That hotel is really nice. Check out the view on the 48th floor of the Mandarin. Pretty impressive.
Okay, back to the Omni. Got a really great deal on priceline ($99) so I feel good about it.
I really like this hotel. It's luxurious without being hip or posery. Room was clean, bed was comfortable, and the bathroom was awesome (even if it wasn't huge). And the location is perfect.
Our experience was beyond fabulous!!
Seven of my friends came out for a b-day celebration and everyone was really impressed with the Omni San Francisco!!
Every employee we encountered was so friendly and welcoming!!
The room rate we found on their website was better than the St. Francis and hotels in the Wharf area, it was a great deal! The rooms were very nice and even though we were next to the elevator, it was quiet. Parking at St. Mary's saved us a ton!!
I signed up as a select guest and we received comp room service beverages each morning. Our first day, they put champagne, cake, strawberries and a lovely note in our room for our b-day!! We were blown away!!!! There couldn't have been a better way to start our weekend!! We love the Omni!!!!
beautiful hotel, suuuuper nice staff that made you feel right at home. so welcoming and sarah at the front desk was awesome. she found out it was my birthday and 30 minutes after check-in, room service surprised us with a beautiful display of chocolate cake dessert with champagne and a handwritten birthday card from sarah. it was so thoughtful and beyond what i would have expected! customer service really makes a huge difference.
and another random thing that really impressed my boyfriend is they provided q-tips in the bathroom (haha!). its the little things in life....
The Omni is a great hotel. Very beautiful lobby and I enjoyed the room. My favorite thing about the room were boxed windows that opened up a bit and let in the soothing sound of the cable cars going by.
I remember the days when requesting a non-smoking room was an oddity, but we requested a down-free room. Regardless of that request the bed comforters and pillows were down. Housekeeping came immediately to change the beds, but the housekeeper didn't seem to grasp what the problem was (down-allergies). She left a down pillow in the closet. I grabbed it without looking at the tag in the middle of the night, since my youngest was hogging all of the pillows. ;) When I woke up my face was swollen, red and broken out.
Unfortunately for me, the formal pictures that were taken that next day will always show a swollen and red face and that'll remind me of why I am writing this review. I know our society is getting pickier by the day, it would seem by many accounts, but I would have appreciated serious attention to detail by a hotel of such caliber.
The doormen are absolutely fantastic and I'd stay there again just for their hospitality alone!
I stayed here exactly a year ago, and after staying at the St. Francis this week I have been reminded of what a pleasant stay the Omni was. The staff at checkin was superbly courteous, asking questions just enough to provide suggestions without seeming nosy. The room was one of the nicest I've ever had, from the bed to the bathroom, everything was broad, spacious, modern and tastefully decorated. I really wished that I could have hung out in the room for hours. The worst thing about it was that after walking back late from dinner, the deserted nature of the Financial District streets is a little foreboding. So we had to drop by the bar, which turned out to be a warming experience with a discrete but helpful and generour bartender.
I really have to give one more plug for the rooms. They were really great, and we had a nice view to boot.
Pulled up to 500 California last Saturday for a 1 night stay... for an acquaintance's birthday party that night in the City.
The car door was opened by "Darryl", perhaps the epitome of what you'd like from a doorman at a 4 Star hotel. He was upbeat, courteous, funny, taking and remembering names... and making you feel like a luminary right from the start. That was cool. And I was appreciative. In fact, in appreciation of my "appreciation" he later arranged for a Town Car ride to "1300 Fillmore" instead of a taxi. No riffraff wheels when leaving the Omni. Darryl was the first face and initial spokesperson for a hotel and staff that delivered quality customer service throughout the establishment. Even the front desk personnel were some of the best I've ever encountered.
As magic happens, the room was upgraded to a Suite... and sweet it was. Great location in the hotel, great view... and verrry comfortable. It was a short stay. But good enough for several relaxing hours before the night out, good for getting ready to hit the town, good for a good night's sleep, great for another room (separate from the bedroom) for a fun 1am late-night meal, good for a quiet and dark sleep-in-late morning, and real good for a newspaper-in-bed, coffee and room service omelet wake-up. In fact, good for all extracurriculars.
Started the stay with a short wait for the room, hence a quick, late lunch in the bar/lounge. A real comfortable, classy venue, that served up some real tasty kobe sliders and equally edible bloody marys. Even the wasabi peanuts brought a smile.
This is a true luxury hotel, in the heart of the greatest City west of the Mississippi. In fact, check out what Trip Advisor has awarded this fine inn:

Not bad.
Even Bob Graney, the General Manager of Omni, took the time to send a detailed, personal email to me in reponse to an online survey I was only too happy to fill out. Now that's good follow-through.
So, next time you're there, say hey to Darryl for me. Good man. And tell Graney that "Rick" highly recommended this joint.
And enjoy your stay too.
We stayed at the Omni the night before and after our wedding. (Bow chicka bow wow.)
The staff were all really friendly, especially the doormen and the bell people. The room was okay: we liked the understated elegance but felt the room size was bit small and cramped. The ceilings definitely didn't help. I think they were your usual 8-10 feet but our ceilings at home are 15 or so, so I felt a little suffocated. The bathroom was also small, the width of a normal shower/tub combo and the length of a one-sink counter top and toilet. Still, the provided robes were nice and plush.
But the best part was the Housekeeping! I'm not sure how they found out (maybe because I told the check-in person we were getting married and my best friend's mother works in their Housekeeping...) but we came back to the hotel room after the ceremony and supper to find our robes laid on the edge of the bed with sleeves crossed like they were holding hands, rose petals in a heart shape on the bed linens, complimentary Evian and Swedish Fish on the nightstand, and two towel swans with their necks making a heart on the side table -- and a handwritten congratulations. THEIR HOUSEKEEPING ROCKS!!! The thoughtfulness made my day even better. :)
Like others that have reviewed the Hotel before me, I was knocked out by the Omni staff. They were simply amazing. For example my room wasn't ready when I wanted to check in, ( I was early) so I gave the door man 2 bucks to store my luggage. Upon return I asked the same gentleman to retrieve my bag and offered him another 2 bucks. He refused saying I'd already paid for the service. What??? The room was fine and had all the usual appointments but I'd definitely come back for the service.
This review based only on attending a conference, no room stay. The lobby is actually a small flight of stairs down from the front door with a beautiful sparkly crystal chandelier on the ceiling. Staff seems helpful. Had to go up another flight of stairs to the Mezzanine for the continental breakfast items. Coffee, hot water/tea, pastries, juice served in interesting shaped glass carafes with a center hole as your handle. Fresh fruit, dessert, coffee/tea, bottles of soda were served during the PM break.
The conference room was well laid out with good audio visual but typical for most of these rooms, they're always so cold. Probably meant to keep you from falling asleep during the lectures. We had lunch served in a small dining room area. The salad was quite good with butter lettuce, tomatoes and wedges of bleu cheese. You could barely taste the pesto vinaigrette. The roasted chicken was dry but good, served with asparagus and a mushroom sauce. The best item was the vanilla creme brulee. Very soft and creamy topped with a delicious honey lace (glaze) and berries.
Wouldn't mind coming back here again for another conference. It's only blocks away from Muni/BART and in the heart of the financial district.
On the 2nd day of conference, (Happy V Day) lots of couples checking in. I chatted w/the door guy while awaiting my ride. He says they're usually 30-60 rooms filled but because of "Heart" day/3d weekend, they're booked about 160+ rooms. Good for the hotel & city to have tourist business.
Probably one of my top 3 hotels in the city. I remember I was pleased with our room and amenities. If I remember correctly we had a deep bath and a separate shower in a spacious bathroom. Just lovely. Convenient and friendly service. Stayed back when Will Smith was filming that movie... In the Pursuit of Happyness... my sister ran into him filming across the street from the hotel. He was so lovely.
This is a hotel I could call home. Every staff member is incredibly friendly and helpful. It is conveniently located. The room service is very good, and relatively cheap. If you are a Select Guest, your reservation is waitinng for you at the bell desk so you don't have to even wait for a desk clerk, you get free bottled water, fruit and internet in the room, and youget a free selection of breakfacst items delivered to your room in the a.m., or can add several tasty, but inexpensive, food items.
Perhaps most enjoyable, after I had checked out and returned to the hotel to get my bags, I was running late for the airport. The bell man called their limousine and I was off to the airport in luxury. A great way to finish off a nice stay. Granted I could have walked the 6 blocks to BART and gotten to the airport for $50 less, but I'm worth it.
My only complaints: Last visit (I go about 6 times a year) I was given a room right next to the staff access elevator, so both mornings was awakened before 6:00 a.m. by slamming doors, and the shower pressure ain't so hot. I'd really give it a 4.9 star, but not a 5, although I will always return.
This hotel and its staff are perfection. I just got married here and I couldn't have been happier with the location and the people at the hotel. Every one of my guests who stayed in the hotel told me at some point during the weekend that they had decided to make the Omni their first choice hotel from now on. The front desk and valet people are kind and funny and professional, all at once. Whoever trains them how to deal with customers is fantastic! The restaurant is overpriced (like many hotel restaurants) but delicious and comfortable and pleasant. The bar is great as well. Comfortable with good drinks and a nice place to sit with friends and have a drink. In the mornings, there's free coffee at the bar for hotel guests -- nice! The hotel itself is pleasant, and gorgeous, with dark wood and marble throughout, it is a really pleasant place to come in from the streets of San Francisco year round.
For a wedding, the setting is gorgeous. We had the ceremony in the Union Square room with the windows overlooking California and Montgomery. Wendy and her team set up the room perfectly and made my guests feel comfortable, setting the tone for a lovely ceremony.
We had the dinner/dancing in the Grand Ballroom on the third floor. It is a wonderful room. Wendy came up with a table layout that was perfect for our size (about 75) but would fit far more without feeling crowded.
The Omni food is also terrific. It also removes a lot of headache (for me) NOT to have to deal with a caterer, but I don't think we could have done better with a caterer. The meals were delicious. The food tasting was a lot of fun too.
Also, as part of the built-in cost, Omni contracts with a cake decorator named Caroline Fey who made a cake that I loved! I know a lot of people go to many bakeries and have many tastings and look at lots of cakes, so I just trusted Wendy on this person, and it was completely worth it. The cake tasting was tons of fun. My fiance and mom and I got to taste 5 of each cake flavors, frosting flavors, and icing flavors of our choice from a list and then "create" our own cake. Then I described what I had in mind about the decorations, and that was the one and only time I saw Caroline. When we got to the ballroom for the party, I saw the cake, and it was perfect.
Wendy, the wedding/events coordinator, is fantastic. She is professional, kind, helpful, and amazing during the last week stress and issues that come up. She had my back on every issue, contacting each vendor and ensuring that things went off perfectly. I could go on and on about Wendy because I think she earns every cent of whatever they pay her because she kept me sane, saved me on a few things (like fixing the damaged ketubah at the last minute), and made sure everything happened as perfectly as she could.
I'll stay at the Omni chain next time I travel and will certainly recommend The Omni as a setting for any bride who wants an indoor wedding in San Francisco. Try to stay calm, enjoy things, and trust Wendy's advice. She knows weddings.
A great hotel in a great location: it's only a five minute walk to Chinatown, a five minute walk to the Union Square and about 15/20 minutes to the ferry building (next to Pier 1). If you're going further afield there is a tram stop directly outside the hotel and the regular bus service stops can be found within a block or so. The lobby and reception area of the Omni were stylish, modern and tastefully appointed, a theme which was followed through to the bar and restaurant areas. The hotel room itself was spacious, clean and fairly well appointed with nice decor, large tiled bathroom and up to date features like a flat screen LCD TV and cordless telephone. The only negative point was that the housekeeping service seemed a little "off the pace" with drinking glasses not being replaced with clean items and in-room tea & coffee making facilities that were never fully replenished - I lost count how many calls I made downstairs in order to resolve these little niggles, but it did become a little tedious. Apart from that, the service given by the rest of the Omni's staff was first class and if I doubt if you will find a better location to stay in San Francisco. Highly recommended.
Hard to believe that a place like this still exists, where every staff person genuinely cares about you. And I mean EVERY one: the doormen, the people working reception, the concierge, even the cleaning crew! The hotel itself was very nice, the room was a good size for SFO, and clean. We joined the Omni's rewards program and received free beverages, a newspaper of our choice (Sunday NY Times) every morning, and free Wi-Fi. We also got a free night with just one weekend night purchased, which made it a great deal. I noticed just a bit of city noise outside our room, but nothing that bothered us or kept us from sleeping. The complimentary citrus water and cold plums in the lobby were a refreshing treat upon our return to the hotel. And everyone there, not just the concierge, was very helpful with directions and advice. We will definitely return!
DISCLAIMER!
I've never stayed there. But I went for drinks with three other people after work.
What was ordered:
1 glass of chardonnay
2 gin & tonics
1 glass merlot
One small margarita pizza appetizer.
Bill: $65.00
The drinks (house wine, house g&t-- not top shelf) were $13.00 each.
The teeny tiny pizza for one, was 13.00 as well.
I was pleasantly surprised by the Omni, had the luxury of staying there this past New Year's Eve. Rooms are well appointed, and if you upgrade you get some nicer amenities as well. The front desk staff was extremely friendly as well, and room service was an extra treat.
Have not been to Bob's, the steakhouse inside, but have heard good things and once my cholesterol settles down will give it a go.
If you are on a business trip visiting SF, I'd recommend the Omni. It is not the closet to Union Square but is right in the Fi-Di, and also close to Nob Hill, Russian Hill, North Beach, etc.
I really enjoyed my stay at the Omni Hotel for a few reasons:
1) Amazingly soft towels. I was definitely tempted to steal one, but I restrained myself. The bathrobes are also quite comfortable...
2) Great deal to sign up as for the "Select Guest Program." You get 500 airline miles, 2 free beverages in the morning and free wi-fi access. I liked how the points actually meant something and didn't just go towards another Omni Hotel reservation, especially since there aren't that many Omni Hotels to stay at.
3) Great service -- really polite and friendly
On the down side though, I didn't like how they used 2 sheets to cover up the comforter instead of using a duvet cover. I could see some stains on the comforter, and that made me a bit uncomfortable.
What a gorgeous hotel! The lobby is stunning and beautiful. The bellhop carried my suitcase down the marble stairs for me, which was cute. The check-in process was lightning fast and courteous. They also had fresh, delicious pears available as you make your way to the elevator.
The room itself was quite nice. Not hip or swanky like the W, but more traditional. The bed was super comfy and the room service was awesome. I suggest ordering their pizza or the Kobe beef burger. Pricey, but worth not having to leave your room when you're ass tired.
The concierge was incredibly helpful and directed us to Brandy Ho's for Chinese food. He even told us what dish to order and described it. 'You get 6 plump prawns....." Now that's a level of detail I've never encountered before from a concierge.
I'd definitely stay here again.
My stay here at the omni was sooo wonderful!!! My husband and I arrived for a weekend to celebrate our anniversary and must say they fulfilled any needs I had!
When we first arrived, we were greeted by several men who welcomed us and told us where to go...Carmen at the front desk was extremely helpful about their hotel restaurant and told me that my request for a king sized bed on a high floor had been all set which was awesome!!! (normally through a third party reservation, you can not specify what type of bed you want, but called a month before and had put in my request!)
The rooms were so comfortable yet had some flair to it!! The bathrooms were surprisingly big and had some great toiletries!! My husband pointed out to me that the housekeeping left a handwritten note, welcoming us, which was very thoughtful to hand write!
I did have the opportunity to go work out in their gym, which was fully loaded!! Had bottled water, towels, and fruit available (self-serve) for your workout, and their equipment is very new and not withered. Not busy at all and was pretty big for a hotel gym!! I really enjoyed!!!
We were in and out of the hotel the entire weekend, but every time we left or entered, someone was always there to greet us!!!
I suggest parking at a self-parking garage, because the valet was like 50 bucks a day! We went to the st. marys parking garage up on California about one block away!!
This exceeded all my expectations and would most definitely stay here again!!
Pics are available!
I stayed here once about 5 years ago and it was really quite nice. I was upgraded to a suite which was great since I was staying for nearly a week.
But, what I will love this hotel forever for is this:
A few years ago, during the hotel workers strike, I had some friends from back East visiting. We were driving around and got stuck in traffic in front of the Omni. There were dozens of workers outside picketing. The ringleader had a raspy Latin accent. He bellowed again and again while we sat stuck:
"Don' stay here!
Don' stay here!
Check out!
Check out NOW!!"
It has remained a reliable joke between us for years now.
I've never reviewed Omni? It's like, my second home.
The hotel is very old school and IMO a little misguided. Rooms are sweet and come in about 15 varieties of the same thing with different rates depending on some very minor issues like toiletries, view, and bed sheets. But all the room rates are within $25 of $400 so if you have a choice, just upgrade.
Staff for the most part is very young and lets their personality hang out but in a good non-snooty way. They're just really good hospitality workers who are comfortable in their skin so when you ask for something they answer without any issues.
I am grateful that they let non-guests like me sit in the lobby all night to use their free wifi. Not like they don't notice or you have to hide, they know and it's okay. In exchange I try to order a martini now and again.
What gets the place five stars is that I just knocked over the little flower pot with my laptop screen and, picking it up I noticed the flowers were a little smushed. Then I realized, they're real. Then, it's like, thirty roses on every little table in the lobby? And they don't mind I just walked in off the street? Incredible!
If I ever make it rich someday, I will pay it back to Omni many times over.
Really dug staying here...had a free night at any Omni Hotel and ended up picking this one...and I have to say, I'd PAY to stay here! The service was FANTASTIC and I adored the little bar downstairs. There was some party there or something and they had cake...everyone was so welcoming! We partook of the sweet goodness and chit chatted up some old guy at the bar while we all toasted with glasses of wine!
Rooms are awesome...low-key, nothing overly special...but VERY comfy.
On a low note: if you don't want to pay the horrendous valet cost and choose to park your car...just beware that you'll have to do some serious walking! lol There's a garage a block up and a block over so it's not too too bad...
Funny thing: While we were getting ready to check out I was standing in the lobby and in walks Will Smith. lol They were apparently filming some flick and he was just chillin', waiting to go back outside in the blustery wind for his next scene. Good enough for Will = Good enough for you!
Stop #2 - And so it begins.
After I got back from my 2 day excursion to Los Angeles, I felt that I needed to get away again. Thus began the 2 month escape to various cities around California. I immediately felt compelled to return north and so, I searched for a premier hotel in the heart of SF.
The drive up was about 8 hours long. My ass was killing me when I got to the Valet. Super nice attendant named Darrel helped me with my bags and if not for him, this place would have gotten 3/5. He just was the highlight of my visit. It's rare to receive such thurough customer service and attention as he gave. I tipped him well.
Checking in was pleasant. Nice lobby. Open, ornate, but not intimidating. Nice steakhouse in the lobby, elevators close the reception. The front desk associate was very clear in her greeting and asked all the questions that needed to be asked to ensure a pleasant stay and that nothing needed to be done once I left the front. I made my way to my room on the top floor in a very relaxed state of mind. I was happy that I chose the Omni.
I get to my room with Darrel's assistance. I go in. Uh.....smells like smoke. I reserved a non-smoking room.
It seems to be a theme so far that my hotel rooms have strange odours.
I request to moved. The hotel is fully booked. They offer to send up an ionizer while I go and get dinner. Sure. Why not. They suggest that I call in the morning to see if there are any last minute cancellations so that I may move. It never happened.
The room was very large and had everything I needed. The steakhouse (Bob's) had phenomenal ribeyes and filet. Everyone on staff was super friendly and attentive. All my travel arrangements and restaurant reservations were taken care of for me and during the 4 days I spent there, the only issue I had was with the smell on the first day.
I would definitely return, as well as visit various other Omni hotels. Almost made it to the one in LA this past week, but didn't feel that it could hold a candle to the SF location.
I would definitely come back, but next time would not order the side of bacon from room service. Thin and flavourless and mostly fat. Otherwise, the food was good. =)
Checking out, I'm falling sleep on the freeway just 20 minutes out of the hotel. I'm so glad that I reserved for a halfway point in a lodge. Little did I know that I'd be scared sh*tless during my supposedly relaxing pitstop in the middle of Cambria.

NOTE: This is a review of the bar, I have not stayed here.
I work right next door to the Omni Hotel and I have to walk by to get lunch, or when making a quick trip to Walgreen's, or to Muni - basically I walk by every day. When I pass, I am always thinking to myself:
"Self, all the people in there look like they are having a fabulous time drinking their happy hour drinks, why have you not gone in so you can be one of those fabulous people?"
Well, I finally did and it was everything I expected it to be. Cool, suave, handsome, and a little bit of naughty - If this were a first date, I could have been convinced to go to 2nd base.
The bar tenders are attentive, the tables are placed the appropriate length apart, there is a fire place to add to the "ambiance", plasma TVs placed in all corners, but not so obvious that it feels like you are at a sports bar paying classy bar prices. The wine selection is good, and the bar tender makes a mean martini.
I love the sports bar, I am a pub and sports bar kind of girl. Every once in awhile though it is good to be wined and dined for happy hour, the Omni Bar is good place for it. The drink prices are a smidgen pricey, but I was expecting it being a hotel bar.
Great Location - Beautiful views from High Floors.
Spacious Standard Rooms, extremely comfortable bed. Modern, clean, and not "cheesy" looking.
Could have been happy staying here for a few weeks but was only here for business but a few days.
Date Rating: 7
Pick up Scale: 2
Impeccable service, quick laundry, prompt valet. Business room, High Speed Internet in Room.
Really great hotel and not exorbitantly expensive either. I stayed here for a special occasion and had a really good experience. Nice, clean, and good-sized rooms. Good service, knowledgeable concierge, etc. The whole ten yards.
Only gripe might be the location, which was amongst financial buildings, but it was near Chinatown, which made it great for morning dim sum and bakery food.
Perhaps I should start by saying that I'm not an overly fancy guy and this was by far the fanciest hotel I have every stayed at. Maybe that's not saying much, but I'm working my way up there.
So I decided to stay here for one night with my girlfriend for a short getaway weekend from silicon valley where we live. We pulled up around 10:30am to drop off the vehicle at valet before we headed out to enjoy the day in the city. The valet was very helpful for someone like myself who hasn't done this much before. He even suggested we go ahead and check in to our room early, but we didn't really have time. Unfortunately I totally forgot to tip the very nice door man who helped us.
When we finally walked in later in the afternoon, the front desk people, the lobby, the architecture and the atmosphere were all impressive. We grabbed our keys and headed up to our room while the people down stairs brought our luggage up.
The room was plenty big for two people. It had a pretty old timey decoration to it. Normally it wouldn't work and would even be tacky in a hotel, but in this case everything worked well together with the tall ceilings and the San Francisco setting. The highlights of the room were the bed and the bathroom. Everything else was normal.
I thoroughly enjoyed my experience here. The only reason I give it four stars is because I'm sure there is something else out there that I will find in my future hotel endeavors that shall impress me even more.
So, to summarize:
Pros:
- Amazing location
- Great atmosphere and decoration
- Top notch customer service
- Awesome bed and bathroom
- Definitely hit the price/value point for me
Cons:
- Old, dusty bed cover (just take it off and stop whining about it)
- The hotel charged a $100 service fee that was later refunded without telling me in advance
i give one for the exceptionally nice, bell boys and housekeeping as well as the man at the front desk while we checked out....thats about it.
all i have to say is if your checking out your hotel room ONLINE, as i was to ensure that my boyfriend and I would have a romantic night...DONT ASSUME THAT THE PICTURE THEY SHOW YOU IS WHAT YOUR GETTING.
The online room photos, shows a "SIGNATURE KING" guest room which is a lot larger, more of a homey look than a hotel room feel, not the standard you walk in, theres a bathroom, your bed, and a chair.
It then shows a "DELUXE KING" guest room which looks 'slightly upgraded' with curtains and chairs, and not by any means bad but still a standard room. A complete difference to the Signature king..
I booked online, which out of the 3 rooms to choose (not including suites) a standard, deluxe, or signature room, chose the signature room with the 'french kiss' package for Valentines day expecting that I would be staying in the room shown online, because i tend to believe that they wouldnt false advertise.
When we checked in, the woman was not friendly until after we paid. She seemed to be rushing and honestly a little rude, as well as asked us to pay then answered the phone....we waited for a number, but instead she waited for US to ASK what our grand total was. finally smiled when we were finished.
We got up to our room and i immediately thought this is what i payed 350 dollars for...(with the 50 dollar valet included). It was the Deluxe King, and immediately told my boyfriend this is the wrong room...It wasnt that i was disappointed with the room's amenities and general feel, because it was a bit of a step up to the hyatts standard room..BUT I came thinking I paid this much, for a much different room, and expecting a different room. I went online to see if i may have mistaken myself with the pictures, but no....we were sitting in a Deluxe King Room when I reserved a Signature King room (based on the online info and photo)
We called front desk, and my boyfriend said he just wanted to double check my reservation as i recall booking a Signature King room...they said yes thats correct, and we said..well we are actually staying in a deluxe king. he said No, every room on the 16th floor is a Signature King...My boyfriend said, thats funny because the picture shown online shows that we are in a deluxe king....
and get this, their reply was:
"Yea, we know the people online messed up the pictures, so your actually in the right room."
WELL FOR PEOPLE LIKE ME WHO BASE THEIR ROOMS ONLINE BEFORE GOING THERE, THIS IS FALSE FUCKING ADVERTISEMENT!!!! and the best part about it, is you all know about it, and in my opinion ripped me off of what was supposed to be a stay in a hotel room i wanted to pay for...
their was no, "is there anything we can do to acommodate to your needs better, or apology, just a "yeah we know, they messed up."
Minus all the bullshit above, the bellboys were VERY friendly, the housekeeping women were also very sweet as well and the french toast breakfast was absolutely delicious!! I wouldnt pay 300 dollars for a room like that ever again, or trust Omni online.
The service is outstanding. Everything about the hotel is great & you get "Bob's" for room service to boot!
