Every few years I'm down here for a conference at the SD Convention Center.  In August I stayed here. I sorta regretted booking my room as I'm still in my 20s!! Should of stayed at the Hard Rock across the street, BUT I was glad! 1 reason, 1 reason only! Carne Asada Fries Poolside!!

I was quite surprised.  I knew the Omni had great service and great rooms. The location is also great to the convention center and all the bars near by.  Not forget the walkway to Petco park if you have tickets, which I did, a suite to be exact, not brag. Anyways back to the Hotel... Its the only hotel I've stayed in SD that served my beloved Carne Asada fries!! They added a twist in that its crinkle cut fries and not the typical fries.  It was BOMB!! right amount of meat, cheese, guacamole, sour cream, salsa.. yum! Makes me salivate just thinking about it.

The pool is a semi roof top, and its great place to chill.  They also have the local microbrew on tap if your a beer drinker.

All in all it was a great spot to stay, eat, and play!

I've stayed here a couple times and have to say, both times were excellent!! The staff is super friendly, the hotel is walking distance from everything (including a walkway to the ballpark), the rooms are beautiful and clean, the bed is super comfy and the pool is nice and quaint with lots of good sun.

If you are in town for a conference, THIS is the hotel you want to be at. It's the closest to the Convention Center entrance which allows for about 15 extra minutes of sleep in the morning...SCORE!!

During my last stay I had the unfortunate experience of a red wine spillage on white pants. I took them to the front desk and they had them cleaned and returned to me in about 10 hours for only $12. They looked better than new when I got them back. Now that's service!!

I'm a big fan of the Omni, having stayed here nearly every time I come to San Diego for work, I find the service to be attentive, the rooms beyond comfortable - they are gigantic, and the amenities make it an enjoyable stay, as do the extra-thick windows (the Omni overlooks Petco Park, where the Padres play.  If you like fresh air, the windows open, which I consider a big plus.

The night I arrived, my only complaint is that no one had told me there'd be a Padres game, about ninety roadblocks preventing me from following my GPS directions to the hotel, and utter mayhem downtown by 9pm.  Luckily San Diego is laid out on a grid system like pretty much every other major city, so doing the mental calculus (6th and L, so I go that way, and then that way) I was able to circumvent the Padres insanity and find the hotel.  Also I stopped at another hotel and asked the bellhop what street I could use to get through, because did I mention there were 90 roadblocks?  Yeesh.

Check-in was efficient, within minutes I was in my gigantic room, flinging open the curtains yielding views of the Padres game, the 6th floor hot tubs and pools, and the fireworks show.  I also spent time rolling the beautiful sliding bathroom door back and forth, back and forth (a privately autistic moment).

I had a corner room (room #904, if you care) which lended views from two sides, including the bathroom, and the bathroom was gigantic.  You could sleep a family of four on the floor between the window and the vanity.

Comfortable beds.  Pretty decent room service prices (though I didn't partake).

Our Board of Directors met on the 4th floor, all day Saturday.  Our room was beautiful (tons of windows and natural light), we all fit comfortable around the square round-table, our continental breakfast featured a toaster (thank god!  something hot!), and we always had plenty of libations.  I would recommend this hotel for small groups needing a meeting facility as well as the business traveler needing a centrally-located, comfortable (and quiet) place to rest in between meetings.

Excellent, beautiful property.  The service is unbeatable and the accommodations (for the price) are the best around.  Great views, good food, and relatively close to things (San Diego is big!).

I would stay here again!

The Omni Hotel is located at the south end of the Gaslamp district in San Diego. It is directly attached to Petco Park (where the San Diego Padres play) by a sky bridge from the 4th floor. This hotel is also close to the convention center, maybe a 5-10 minute walk. The hotel itself seems modern contemporary and I do not think it has been renovated in a while but nevertheless it looks great and is in very good condition.

Checking in and out was very easy and the staff was accommodating. There is a McCormick's & Schmidt's in the ground floor. The valet is very small but the staff there do well. It has the usual amenities you would expect: business center, fitness center, pool etc.

The standard room was typical size with either a city or bay view. The room design was again modern contemporary and was nicely put together. The bed and linen were comfortable. One thing is they still have old standard TVs, no flat screen and no HD. Bathroom was nice with an interesting sliding glass door.

The elevators were very slow and a little small for 4 elevators they had. I ended up taking the service elevator one night since someone had puked in the elevator and they could call another one. So manager took me through the kitchen to the service one.

As for price, you are paying for location. You are close to the action but the hotel is nice so it may be worth it to you.

One drawback was it location. If there is a game when you are trying to get to or from here, you will have to go through a maze of street closures and one way streets so be prepared. Best route would be coming down 6th St. right into the valet.

Overall, a nice place to stay within walking distance to plenty of entertainment and the convention center.

Very nice hotel and fine, friendly, easy-going service.
Rooms could be a little bigger for that price.
And what were they thinking when they placed shutters that comprise 1/2 of the wall between bathroom and bedroom?
Also, A/C blows onto a wall not near the bed, which is not cool in this "green"age.
Food choice limited. Gift/coffee shop too much for a cofffee and muffin: $9.83
At any rate, nice room, staff, locale and I'd go back.

This was a really nice hotel, my room overlooked the Padres Stadium.  Plan on a lot of traffic if there is a game when you arrive, the streets right next to the hotel close down.  Wifi was free, you just have to sign up for their reward program.  Parking wasn't too bad, there is a structure right across the street that was less than $10 a day.  There were no in-and-out privileges in the parking structure though, so if you are going to drive around a lot just use the hotel valet. The hotel is in a great location, right next to a bunch of nice places to eat and the san diego convention center.

The only problem I had with the room was the bathroom door.  For some reason, instead of a normal door they have a crazy sliding door with a giant opaque window in it.  The door does not close completely, leaving about a half inch gap to see through.  This makes privacy impossible.  This wouldn't be a problem if you are traveling alone or with a significant other, but if you are splitting a room with a colleague it's a little creepy.

The Omni is conveniently located right next to Petco Park (we had an amazing view from our room of the Padres and Giants games during our stay) and a short walking distance to neighboring Gaslamp eateries and bars.  They offer updated rooms and fabulous prices with the help of Priceline (about $100/night).

My major gripes about the hotel, though, are the extremely slow valet parking service and the lack of ventilation fans that all bathrooms (residential or hotel) should be equipped with.  Bathroom fans are so so so important, especially for the following two reasons:

1) When you're done taking a shower, you don't want be stepping out into a steam room -- bathroom ventilation fans help solve that problem of fogged up mirrors.

2) When you've got to take care of, um, "business," there's nowhere for the polluted air to go, except trapping itself in your hotel room -- bathroom ventilation fans generally help solve that problem, with the extra help of perfume or Febreeze.

I guess my advice to you is to pick up some of those free matches from the McCormick & Schmick's downstairs on the way up to your room.

Very nice staff. Upscale hotel. Great rooms!! Recommended if you're going to stay in or near downtown San Diego because it's a bit of a pain to drive in and out. The parking options are limited and expensive if you valet with the hotel.
Great pool area but always crowded. Great gym.

The Omni hotel was great! The location is awesome, across the way from the Hard Rock Hotel and walking distance from all the bars and clubs. The front desk was super nice and we a nice room on a high floor. The rooms were really clean, BUT they loose a  1/2 a star because the door in the bathroom left a pretty wide gap. It was more of a decoration piece than a real door. If you're staying with friends it can be a little inconvenient.

The pool I used and it was not heated, but they had a spa which was nice and not too hot. It's really nice on the pool deck, especially in the late afternooon and morning.

TIP! They loose another 1/2 a star because of valet. Don't valet your car at the hotel unless your going to be going in and out a lot with your car. If you just going to walk or take cabs then I highly recommend you park your car across the street in the same garage as valet except instead of $30 its $12.

I would  defiantly  stay here again.

We love this hotel. We are locals in San Diego, but once in a while its nice to just play tourist in your own town and get a great room downtown. The Omni is a beautiful hotel: Modern, clean, comfortable, great location. The staff is professional and courteous. The rooms are nice, fairly good size as hotel rooms go. The few times we've stayed here, we have had upper floor rooms with awesome views of the Bay, Downtown and Petco Park. The hotel is far enough away from the noise and traffic from the Gaslamp (unless there is a game), but still close enough for walking distance to the convention center, restaurants and clubs.

Nice touches: Free non-alcoholic drinks per night. Request on a card and leave on door. A tray magically appears in morning with your request at your door. Also, if you valet, they give you a water bottle to go for your ride home.

Ouch: Valet is pricey. I think like $30 a night. Seems a bit much, but I guess you are paying for location.

This Omni is nice. We had a bachelorette party in one of the suites and the living room area was large enough to entertain a group of 12. The suite had a connecting room that ladies could sleep in along with the bedroom in the suite.

This hotel is on par with other better hotels - full amenities, etc. The staff was nice too. I've been to some hotels (Hard Rock SD) and the staff sucks.

Other things to know:
The coffee we had brought up to the room the next day was delicious - could have been the hangover but I don't think so; it was very good.
The parking is $30 but you get a water for the road when you retrieve it from valet.

I wouldn't throw a fit if someone told me I had to stay here again!

Every time I think about the Omni, a smile comes to my face. The Omni is at a great location in SD. It's pretty much within walking distance, a short taxi drive within all of the clubs / restaurants.

What I LOVE about the Omni:
-The rooms are super clean and it has a wonderful modernized feel to it.
- The complimentary tea / juice / coffee that is served to you in the morning.
-The service is impeccable - esp the turn down service. They won me over with the chocolate on my pillow. And yes, I ate my bf's too!
-When we mentioned that it was our 2 year anniversary during our check in, they upgraded us to the jr. suite. SCORE!

I constantly check http://travelzoo.com for any specials at the Omni bc the last time we stayed, it was $130 per night and if you stay 2 nights, you get the 3rd for free!

The Omni always provides me with the zen calm above the fray and the 'noise' that often characterizes the biz jaunts i've made down to SD.

The REALLY GOOD:
--Rooms are average to slightly above average size.
--Rooms are modern, clean and comfy with good amenities.
--The Views are great if you get a higher floor. I have been fortunate to get corner rooms and I've also practically been able to watch the ballgame (well, ALMOST) going on at Petco Park....
--Service is friendly and professional
--As others have mentioned, it's just far enough away from the mayhem that is the Gaslamp so you feel somewhat secluded, but as soon as you roll out, you're right across the street from the Gaslamp if that's your thang (I tend to be more of a Hillcrest/Kensington/University Heights/Little Italy and beyond kinda San Diego urban adventurer, but I digress)...

TIPS: If you're driving, make sure you valet that vehicle otherwise you'll be overwhelmed by the convention center/Petco Park/Gaslamp party scene.

I'm not so enthusiastic about the attached Schmick's on the first floor (foodwise, at least), though it's a decent spot to grab a drink or meetup with folks to start your evening....

DONE.

Great location, nice gym, cool pool, and great perks if you join the Omni hotel program!

The only negative is that there are a couple plugs that doesn't work in the room and expensive valet parking. Walking one block north of the hotel and you will see a parking garage at about $16 a day.

Over all it's a lovely place to stay and if you can get high enough you can look into the ball park!

My first time staying at an Omni, and it was ridiculously relaxing. I liked that they remember you and say "welcome back!" and offer to help you with the loads of shopping bags that you accumulated in Horton Plaza and the Gaslamp.

Every night my sister and I would go swimming in the heated pool, and then melt into the jacuzzi for a good fifteen minutes after. We'd stare at the night sky, sigh, and exclaim "This is the life!" The mini-gym and such looked clean also, if that's your kinda thing on a vacation.

The rooms had such beautiful decor as well. I was a fan of the smooth wood panels and the fresh green sheets. Everything was so clean, I even dared walk barefoot on the carpet! Sure, the shower and sink drains were a little slow, and I wish they had filtered water so I could refill my Sigg and not pay $6 for an Evian, but there was also fast internet and free newspaper weekday mornings. I generally had everything I needed and slept pretty well for not being in my own bed.

The location is not ideal though, for those who are planning on driving around. Cost of valet parking is nooo bueno, but you'll have to pay for it considering the traffic and parking in the evenings is horrendous.

Overall, Omni made my stay in SD very relaxing and pleasant. I'd come back.

I live in San Diego and was looking for a nice place to stay for a night because we were going to a club downtown for a friends birthday.

I'm so glad I booked reservations at the Omni. It was nice, clean and everyone was super professional inside. The bathrooms are enormous and imaculate to compliment the rooms.

The pool facility was pristine and gave a view of the bay and Hilton hotel across the way.

Valet was extremely nice and talkative which made me confident in entrusting my car with them. Unfortunately that was a $30 charge.

Easy walking access to most downtown destinations and Horton Plaza Shopping. Just a bridge awway from Petco park during baseball season.

Room service is extremely expensive and I would recommend trying on of the great restaurants in the historic Gaslamp Quarter.

Overall, I enjoyed my time and would definitely book at the Omni again for a party night/ special event.

My boyfriend and I went to San Diego to ring in the new year, and I have to say we had a really great time.  We were located right in the Gaslamp Quarter, right next to Petco Park, with a really pretty view of the SD Convention Center and the water behind it (see pictures of our view).

The staff was really friendly, and our hotel package was "Half Off For The Holidays."  We received complimentary coupons to restaurants, vouchers for free coffees from Morsel's (their cafe), complimentary valet parking every day, newspaper and beverages in the morning, turndown service, etc.  They stopped by daily to check the minibar to see if we needed refills, to refill our ice bucket, etc.  The valet guys gave us detour directions to get around the holiday traffic, and one even gave us ideas for alternate celebration sites if our plans fell through.

The bed was nice and comfy, my boyfriend was super happy to easily locate the ESPN channel, free wifi with a guest select memebership.  Our balcony also looked over the pool and hot tub, and though it was chilly, people braved the pool and hot tub each morning (to our amazement).

One strange thing was that the bathroom doors and walls contained shutters, so anyone in the room could easily hear anything going on in the bathroom.  For those that like privacy, this was a no-no.  And what is it with SD hotels not having fans in the bathrooms?  My advice is to run a little water while you handle business and bring a little can of room freshener so you don't waste your expensive perfume.

Other than that, we really did have a great time.  You have the option to check out through the TV system or with a voicemail to the front desk.  We had a couple suites in sight from our room, so a suite is a definite goal for our next visit to the Omni.

I am spoiled. I am used to getting comped or very low rates for the best resorts... yes, I go to Vegas A LOT.
But yes, this is San Diego and yes, this is THE hotel to stay at Downtown... you couldnt ask for a better location, walked to all the bars/restaurants in Gaslamp form there.
So when I got the Omni via http://Hotwire.com for a Saturday for only $100 I was excited as I could be, score!

I stayed at the Omni Hotel for a week while I was visiting a client in San Diego. I'm giving it four stars because I wasn't  able to experience all of the amenities and nothing really jumped out as being superior. That said, the hotel stay was pleasant and I didn't really have any issues with the place other than maybe the lack of a fan in my bathroom. We booked our tickets through Priceline and got an amazing deal of $82 per room, so I didn't really have an issue when they gave me a smoking room.

The room was clean and the view was great. I had a queen size bed and a large window that offered a beautiful view of the downtown skyline and partial views of the marina and of Petco field.

The hotel is located next to Petco field and only a few minutes away from the Gaslamp Quarter, which made it very convenient to go out at night. For people who enjoy running, it's really close to a nice pathway that runs alongside the train tracks as well as another path that runs along the marina.

It's a good place to stay but it wasn't anything to write home about. I'd definitely stay here again and I'd have to check out the swimming pool and work out facilities.

A really great hotel with EXCELLENT service and a great location. The hotel is very clean, as are the rooms. The little store downstairs in the lobby sells Starbucks coffee and the on-site restaurant is McCormick & Schmick's.

They have an on-site fitness center - nothing special but it's adequate and clean. Each cardio machine had it's own TV and looked pretty new. The pool is also decent.

The only thing we didn't like much were the beds and pillows. Not really comfortable at all as compared to say the Hilton.

Oh..and they have 24 hour room service....which was a blessing after a long night of partying!

Modern, sharp, and conveniently located.  This upscale hotel is perfectly next to the waterfront.  A great place to wake up and get inspired for a run in sunny San Diego.  It's also across from the convention center and within walking distance to the Gaslamp district with terrific dining and entertainment options.

The beautiful part of this whole thing was that I got this place for a steal.  Using Hotwire, I booked the highest star hotel I could find... and prepaid about $68 a night here.  Wow.  Of course, the extras add up fast.  Parking is amazingly expensive, as are the restaurants and the bar here.  But the view is impressive and the service impeccable.  I would gladly pay full room rate if it came down to it.

On the negative side:
A bunch of screaming Marco-Polo playing water runts detract from the pool vibe.

Special star for the concierge who was helping us find stuff to do in the city when all we really wanted to do was go to Mexico. It was 4 pm and he quickly talked us out of it for that night and set us up for the next morning. That was a very good call by him.

Although I was unfortunately in San Diego to "work", let me briefly detail a few highlights from my recent stay at the Omni.

First and foremost, location is king, and this hotel is situated at the front door of the "Gas Lamp" district. Any and all trouble you want to discover downtown, is within walking distance from the front door.

But you can't reap the rewards of the location until you actually check in, which is what I did with a new employee in training and her manager that Thursday morning. Both were very helpful, and even semi encouragingly looked at me when I jokingly, yet very politely requested a room with a view.... Following a questionable look from new employee to manager, the manager smiled with approval, pointed to the screen in front of them, and the room was secured. Which room and where, I had no idea, but felt good about it.

Up I went to the 15th floor, not to the top, but I figured still high enough to see over the buildings. Walked off the elevator and in the direction I knew faced the San Diego Bay, hoping that my room was located in that general direction. In fact, it was, and not just that, but located on the corner of the hotel. This meant only one thing, and when I opened the door to my very spacious home away from home for the next 4 days, had not only a brilliant view of the San Diego Bay, but my own porch over looking downtown San Diego, the "Gas Lamp" district, and Petco Park....... View aside, the room was very clean, equipped with a king bed, desk, chair, TV, and a trendy almost Hotel W style open bathroom.

They also have a nice pool, and a clean operational fitness center. Whether you are attending a convention or just visiting, I would highly recommend the Omni. Ask for a room with a view......

I love this hotel. It's so pretty and has amazing views. It's also got a great location. You can leave and wander around the Gaslamp Quarter to your hearts content. It is also located right next to (and connects to) the stadium.

Comfy beds, and tastefully decorated rooms. I even like the bathrooms with their pedestal sink and wood shelves. Friendly staff and awesome valets. In and out parking privileges. Tea and the paper in the mornings. :) Everyone here was fantastic, always offering tips to have a good time downtown. I was always greeted with a friendly smile.

Definitely the hotel to stay at downtown. I just wish it wasn't so damn expensive, but it's so worth it.

My fiance's parents stayed here when they were in town at the end of August 2009. It's a beautiful hotel with just enough modern décor to make is tastefully chic. The location, which is right in the center of downtown, is perfect for people who want to be close to the Marina and the downtown action. The first night, his parents even received complimentary cookies and milk at their bedside when they returned to their room in the evening. How perfect is that? Also, the Omni's 6th floor outside dining/pool area is great. The food took a long time, but once we got it we were all delighted. Great ahi tuna sliders, BBQ pulled pork, and roast beef sliders. The waffle fries were also excellent, and so was the selection of beer (love Red Trolley) and cocktails. My fiance and I would definitely come back here again on a nice day to sit outside and dine on appetizers during happy hour. Overall, I would definitely recommend the Omni to SD visitors.

My wife and I spent last Sunday night at the Omni...

First, we got a great rate on http://priceline.com, $122.00 for the night for a King size bed.  You can't beat that.  The room was nice with a view of the Coronado Bridge and the 6th floor pool area.  The staff was great, I thought I might have the http://priceline.com tag on my head and I would be treated like a 2nd class citizen, but that was NOT the case.

I appreciated that the Omni was focused on the customer, every employee was very hospitable.

We showed up right when a Padres game was starting, so there was alot of traffic and activity, but we drove right up and were handled by the valet guys and ushered right in to register. Being right next to Petco Park made for an exciting environment.

The restaurant was nice, check out that review, and the pool was nicely heated and available for lap swimming.

The Gaslamp Quarter is blocks away, so it made for a nice walk on a summer night.

We can't wait to go back.

When in San Diego stay at the Omni or the Hilton Gaslamp.
Perfect location, close to the airport, next to the stadium (with private walkway into the park for guests), and right next to the convention center.

The hotel never has treated me wrong, the last time I was there they upgraded me to a suite on the house upon checkin. Not too shabby.

Happy Hour at the joint downstairs in the bar area gets you 1.99 1/2lb cheeseburger w/ fries and the fixings.

Parking, if you have a guest valet and charge to your room, look at bill upon checkout, they assume you had a car there your whole stay and will fix upon call.

I have to say that the location of this hotel is just perfect. It's walking distance to the gaslamp and to the stadium (duh! it's connected lol). The hotel is beautiful from the outside and in.

The rooms always have the fresh clean smell. They provide all of the necessities needed. The Hard Rock restaurant is right accross the street and Nobu is a new restaurant there also.

I highly recommend this hotel. They have wireless. The pool is nice  and clean also and opened late. =)

Really, anything attached to Petco Park is blessed by the gods in my mind. I stayed here during Street Scene '08 weekend since my friend was down on business and had a free room (yay corporate cards!). I'd always been a bit in awe of the place so I was beyond stoked to get to stay there.

To start - the parking is crazy expensive - use the lot across the street and save at least half your wallet's worth. The rooms are huge and comfy and the view we had of Coronado was to die for! My only qualm was the creepy shuttered no-wall bathroom. Granted, it was huge and gorgeous as well, but c'mon! Can't a girl have a little privacy and quiet time while she's... you know....? Eh whatever - I took it in stride - loud and proud.

In the end, the Hard Rock might be more my speed (i.e. the bar needs to be at least 10 steps away at all times), but I'd still definitely recommend the Omni to those business or vacation types who hit SD to chill and get great service.

I luuurrrrve this Omni.  I've stayed in several different Omni's in the country, and this is my favorite.  The rooms are spacious, the bathrooms are gorgeous and modern with nice spa-style amenities.  The free Wi-Fi makes it great for both business and leisure travelers.

McCormick and Schmick's is the in-house restaurant, and open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.  There is also a small coffee bar place for a quick cuppa joe in the mornings.  This is the perfect hotel at which to stay when you're attending something at the convention center - it's literally across the street!  It's also just steps to everything in the Gaslamp.

Only reasons for it not being 5 stars - the damn price (at nearly $400/night when I stayed here!) and the proximity to the train tracks.  The trains can wake you up in the middle of the night out of a dead sleep.

Pro tip:  Ask for room 1833, 1933, or 2033 for a spectacular view into Petco park along the 3rd base line!

I too took advantage of Priceline's unbeatable deals, and stayed over on the Sunday of Labor Day weekend.  I didn't go anywhere for summer b/c of the price of gas and a major move, so Labor Day  weekend was my last hurrah before school.

I enjoyed our stay thoroughly, up to the two extra hours they allowed us for late checkout.  The pool is small but inviting (no deep end, though).  The location is perfect for strolling through the Gaslamp district, or making the quick dash to Ralphs, or shopping for a spare bathing suit at Horton Plaza.  The Omni is as child-friendly as a hotel can be, giving out free backpacks stuffed with little games and a sippy cup entitling the child to free drink refills at McCormick and Schmidt.  Service was quick and courteous.

My only quibble is that $30 for overnight parking is outrageous, but you can get around that by parking in the ACE structure right across the street for $8.

Our winter break will be at the Omni.

HANDS DOWN, one of the nicest hotels I have ever stayed in (especially compared to all those Budget Inns I stayed in when I was road trippin' back in college!).  I stayed in San Diego for an AFP conference and received a complimentary upgrade to a suite - lucky me!  The room was huge, clean and gorgeous.  My own personal balcony overlooked the heated outdoor pool (but no one was really sunbathing or hanging out since it was pretty cold).  I also was on the same floor of the gym that thankfully opened at 5 a.m.

Other pluses?  The Omni has a sky way that connects to Petco Field!  I don't like the Padres, but I love baseball so I couldn't resist a game.  Room service was excellent, the hotel store has a Starbucks, and downtown is literally at your finger tips.  An excellent choice if you need to overnight it in downtown San Diego!

This was my first stay in the Omni and I would definitely consider staying in this hotel again. The hotel has a modern and contempory feel to it. The rooms are a decent size and the beds quite comfortable. The bathroom isn't that great as it has just a standard tub/shower. The view from the hotel is awesome. The pool area is also very nice. In the lobby there is a McCormick's & Schmidt's that has an awesome happy hour! I would definately recommend this hotel.
