I stayed at the New Haven Omni from 14-17 May 2009. All in all, a good experience. Some minor negatives, but nothing that presented a major problem. However, when it's $200+ a night, I'm going to start getting picky.

Even though I arrived three hours before the official check-in time, they had my room ready. The woman at the check-in desk was probably the least helpful of any of the staff I encountered -- she just said, "Welcome" and handed me my key. Ok...so, where are the elevators? Perhaps a map of the area? Other hotel amenities I should know about? What floor is the gym on? She was a dud. However, all the other staff I encountered were exceptionally friendly & helpful. Maybe she was just having an off day.

I had requested a king bed, but was given a room with two doubles. Not really a problem, but I still noted it! The room was a decent size, the bed was firm (but not too much so) with lots of pillows, and the bathroom was nicely stocked (shampoo, conditioner, mouthwash, sewing kit, cotton balls, q-tips, tons of towels, blow dryer, etc.). There was some peeling wallpaper in the lower corner below the room window, but the curtain hid that.

I was on the 11th floor facing north. I could see the New Haven green, Yale, and part of Temple street below. I didn't have any noise problems from the bars across the street, and my stay did include a Friday & Saturday night. There were a few doors on my hall that were a bit loud when shutting (slamming), and squeaky -- a little WD40 could have fixed that right up.

The maid service was fantastic -- they magically came into my room and cleaned & organized everything without me feeling like they had totally violated my things. They even took the time to organize my pile of toiletries which I had simply dumped out of the ziploc bag onto the counter.

The TV was a decent size, but the channel selection was a bit dull. It was mainly news channels, and some basic cable & local stuff. But none of the goofy cable that I like -- no Discovery, TLC, Bravo, MTV, VH1. They did have HBO.

You should definitely sign up for the "Select Reward" program on the Omni website -- it's free and worth it. This gets you some nice free perks: free morning beverage delivered to your room, in-room fitness kit, free daily newspaper, quick check-in/out, free wifi, etc.

The gym was great. I used it several times. All of the cardio equipment had personal TVs, and the gym provided headphones for you to use. Lots of towels, and lemon water in the gym too. It was also very clean.

I never visited the restaurant/bar on the 19th floor.

I know this review sounds a bit negative, but when I'm paying $200+ a night, I really expect the BEST in everything. However, I would definitely stay here again.

Not a big fan. Rooms need to be updated, and are very small. The hotel bar on the top floor is nice, but thats it. go somewhere else if you can as its not cheap either.

Motel 6 quality for "W" Hotel price.

1.  Our room was about 10x10 and had no refrigerator.  My  biggest pet peeve, right there.  How do you not have a refrigerator in the room?  I've stayed at Comfort Inns for $79 with a fridge, how can the Omni not have one?

2.  Poorly soundproofed walls kept us up all night with sounds from shenanigans in the hallway, the person above us peeing every hour on the hour (complete with urine stream and subsequent flush), doors slamming, but best of all - the nightclub across the street whose sound system shook every building in downtown New Haven until exactly 3:38am.  The bass was as strong as an 8.7 magnitude earthquake.  Apparently, there are no noise ordinances in the city of New Haven.  In addition to said noises, there was a loud humming sound that was consistent for our entire stay.  I have no way to explain what that noise may have been, but it was definitely scary and disruptive.

3.   Carpeting in the hallway had multiple random stains.

4.  The bed so firm, it felt like I slept on a hard wood floor all night.

5.  Despite the heat being turned "OFF", it still managed to be 100 degrees in the room at all times.

That being said, we were only here for the Ryan Adams concert at Shubert Theater last night and this hotel was conveniently located within walking distance a block away so it was nice to be able to walk there in 2 minutes.  Otherwise, do NOT stay here unless you don't plan on sleeping.  All the reviews said this was the nicest hotel in New Haven and that's scary.   New Haven is a pretty gross city, so I would recommend staying like at least 15 minutes away in a safe suburb, but to stay in the city itself is just a bad idea unless you're a coked out preppy Yale student.  If you must stay in this wretched hotel, you will probably get a better night's sleep in your car in a parking garage, but make sure the doors are locked because it doesn't seem too safe around here.

Easily the nicest hotel in New Haven.  Its easy walking distance to campus and a large section of trendy bars and restaurants are on surrounding streets.  The gym is one of the more impressive hotel gyms I've ever been in.

Before you go, sign up for Omni Select for free wake up beverage and newspaper delivery, wifi, and other benefits.

Still looking for an outlet to plug the hair dryer in. I did find a peanut instead and funny thing is, I did not have peanuts. Maybe it was a gift. All I heard the entire night was the club blasting house music across the street (I'm on the 16th floor), the person upstairs flushing the toilet and peeing, some emotional trainwreck next door crying and some strang howling monster. The place is not well kept up, I'd be embarassed to be the manager of this hotel. I've had better stays at the red roof inn for $49 bucks and this place is $200 a night with NO free Internet ($10) and parking is ($20). Check out some of the nasty pictures. Oh yeah and the room feels like a 10' x 10' jail cell with cable.

Decent room, friendly staff, great location. For $200/night, though, I'm not sure it was worth the money. The best part of the stay was the room service breakfast I ordered, which, obviously, was an additional charge. Not a great TV channel selection, and the pay-per-view movie selection wasn't terribly impressive either.

Stayed here for a couple nights for a conference. If you go on their website and join the "Select Member" group for free, you get free wifi access, and breakfast beverages and a newspaper brought to your room in the morning.

It's pretty clean. New England-y in its decor. Not too quiet because I can certainly hear doors slamming and showers running. Bed is extremely firm, but the sheets and pillows are nice and comfy. Complimentary turndown service with hershey kisses on the pillow is cool. Nice toiletries.

Doesn't have a gift shop (if you need toiletries or snacks, I suggest the Rite Aid one block around the corner), but has 24h room service. I ordered it first night b/c I was exhausted and couldn't get myself to go out for food. I had the clam chowder (deeelicious!) and the hamburger (not so delicious). I also had a croissant brought to me with my breakfast bevs  ($4 for two croissants; the beverages were free) and it came with butter and jam. That was pretty good.

Apparently Harrison Ford is staying here right now or just recently stayed here while filming Indiana Jones 4. Maybe I slept in Han Solo's bed, that would be cool.

Overall, a classy place. I don't know if I would stay here if I had to foot the bill myself though. Over $200 for a room. But from the looks of the rest of New Haven, this seems like the best place to stay. Centrally located downtown with bars and restaurants surrounding it. Shopping in the area sucks and I wouldn't walk down some of the alleyways by myself.

I'm reviewing strictly for the bar, which is at the top of the hotel next to John Davenport's restaurant.  I love going to the top for a unique cocktail or glass of wine, and checking out the amazing view.  It's one of the few times I feel like I live in New England while living in New Haven.  I wish the bar faced more towards the view, but I still find it to be an incredibly comfortable spot for a tasty beverage.  Also, there is a bartender there that is as sweet as can be, and always makes us feel very welcome.

I was at a conference at Yale this weekend and unfortunately, the only hotel close to Yale within walking distance is the Omni.  Nothing really against Omni on that part, but it is pretty expensive.
Omni has great service and have helpful housekeeping staff and floor staff.  The staff behind the counter however aren't so great.
My organization had booked the conference for our group 3 weeks in advance.  We specifically asked for a double for 4 people.  The day of the conference, my friend had a bad feeling about the reservation and called the front desk only to find out that they gave us a King size bed for 4 people.  Does that even make sense in the hotel world?  How can 4 adults sleep in a room with just one King size bed AND pay the price for the double that we had booked?!?!
We were VERY frustrated with the customer service since no one had notified us before the day of our arrival that our reservation had magically changed.  There was obviously no mistake on our part because we had our confirmation which clearly stated what we had booked.
After a very frustrating time arguing and getting angry on the phone after waiting an hour before they called us back to address our issue, we got our double bedded room back.  The strange thing was that they said they ran out of double bedded rooms.  How is that possible for people who ALREADY made the reservation for the actual room?
Maybe there's some sort of unspoken hotel rules that I am not aware of...  But 4 people in a King size bed was definitely not acceptable.

Obviously, a ridiculously swanky hotel.  The restaurant on the top floor serves especially delicious chocolate desserts.
