5 reviews for Omni Detroit River Place Hotel
Wonderful hotel. I'd absolutely stay here again if I ever head back to the area.
I loved the look of the hotel. I read it used to be a brewery, which certainly contributed to it's unique character. The rooms were huge, had a river view (though we booked a standard room), and we're extremely comfortable. The services they provide were first class and well done. I really felt pampered without having to ask for things. The staff was super friendly and genuinely made us feel welcome.
The river walk out back is beautiful and sadly underused. The immediate area around the hotel is very nice, safe, and well taken care of, but the main drag (Jefferson, I think) looked to be a bit on the shady side. I'd probably stick to the grounds or convenient hotel provided transportation.
One downside; the hotel restaurant was a bit of a disappointment, especially because we booked a room that came with a $40 per day food and beverage credit. The food wasn't horrendous, but it was something along the lines of "Denny's" quality. Pretty sub par for an Omni hotel. Also, it's a slight rip off, because if you use your $40 credit for $8 worth of coffee and bagels you don't get any change.
That aside...tops for Detroit. Check it out if you are in the area.

We knew we were going to have to get a hotel room block for our out of town guests. Most are not familar with downtown Detroit and to be honest are scared of it, so we did a lot of research to make sure we picked a spot that was safe and close to our venues. We contacted the Omni and once we took the tour of the building, we knew it would be perfect for our guests. It is in a quiet, quaint part of Detroit, halfway between our reception and ceremony AND the selling point, they have a shuttle to and from downtown and since we had so many rooms booked, scheduled pick-ups and drop-offs to our reception. The only complaints we had were that our guests kept running into problems booking under our block once a certain room type was no longer available. The staff at the 1 800 number we were told to use were telling them there was no block, so our guests would call us asking what was up. Once that issue was resolved, it was smooth sailing for reservations. My other beef was the welcome bags. They didn't give them to everyone upon check in. I had to keep asking if they were giving them out. I know there was another block and wedding that night in the hotel, but they didn't have bags. I wish they would have been able to put them in people's rooms, but oh well. Nearly everyone got one, one way or another. I know people were not crazy about having to valet park their cars and pay for parking everynight, but it is a "city" hotel and it is the norm for most hotels in Detroit.
Other than that, it was fantastic. The rooms were spacious and clean and the staff was so nice and accomodating to our guests. I stayed in a suite the night before the weddding so the girls could all get ready in the room and it was so huge and perfect for us. Also, Steve and I stayed there the night of the wedding and they gave us a late check out of 2PM. An added bonus was that we stayed our wedding night for free because we had so many rooms booked! Woo hoo!

I put friends and family up here when they come to visit. The proximity to the downtown area (and prox. to me), riverwalk, gorgeous rooms, views and patio make this a great choice even if it is a bit under the radar (as another reviewer mentioned.) The website makes booking and viewing details easy. And even if your internet connection at home fails and you end up buying the room twice (as I did) the helpful staff will assist your needs, even at 430am. I have been impressed as have all my guests.

So here's the thing - we got this as a deal on priceline. One of my best friends was in town from NYC and I'm in A2 now and have gotten tired of sleeping on people's couches and of driving home to Ann Arbor at 3 am. And when my girl comes in from New York, we're going out in Detroit. Okay, maybe Hamtramck, but still. So, went on priceline, put in a fairly low price (and just b/c they were so nice at this hotel I won't say exactly how low, but suffice to say equal to or greater than $100). And oh it was SO worth it.
First of all - the service. They are fabulously friendly from the moment you valet - and you do have to valet, and it is $18. And you sit down at a little desk while they check you in, no mass torture of waiting in line. And the room itself is fine. It's not glorious. But I've stayed in worse Hilton's that I (or actually my company) has payed close to $300 for. Decent bath products, I forgot which kind. Coffee maker and mini-bar, though you do have to ask for the key (which I did - at 3 am - FYI I think Doritos and peanuts come out to approx $5, which isn't horrible by mini-bar standards).
Also, they have this fabulous shuttle service that's FREE! And will take you anywhere within approx 5 mile (basically anywhere in downtown Detroit) and pick you up when you call them until 11 pm. So, while I waited for my friend to be finish up a wedding she was attending, I took the shuttle to Slow's for some BBQ and discussed Detroit with the shuttle drivers.
Everyone at the hotel was super-nice. I would never have known about this hotel if it hadn't been for priceline (and this was my first time). It was like a little vacation in Detroit. Perfect.

This is one of those hotels in Detroit that flies under the radar. This hotel is exquisite. It is beautifully designed, reminding me of the sophistication of a European classic. I surprised my husband with a weekend stay here for his birthday. I absolutely fell in love with the view of the river from the rear of the hotel. Our room was nicely decorated and a nice size. I went all out and got the Governor's Suite. Room service was prompt and front desk check in was easy. The front desk coordinator worked with me because she knew I was planning something special. I definitely recommend this place as a cozy get away for any occasion or just because. You really feel special when you stay here. Feels as if you're miles away from the everyday.
