Categories: Sushi Bars, Japanese [Edit]
Neighborhood: Brooklyn/GravesendOmiya is my favorite Japanese restaurant in Brooklyn, both for sit-down meals and delivery/take-out. For the crazy inexpensive prices and deals they offer ($2.50 per roll, Buy 1 Get 1 Free, etc), you'd expect cheap, processed, flavorless crap like they sell prepackaged in Keyfood and other deli markets. But on the contrary, the sushi is fresh, crisp, clean, varied and some of the best I've ever tasted. There are so many choices on the menu, and some of their roll names are hilarious. Their delivery is also free ($10 order minimum), and very quick.
The staff is very accommodating and friendly - they're easy to spot with the giant "50% OFF"s on the backs of their tshirts, and the decor is quite nice - there's always something to look at. Their music choices could use a little improvement though. Sometimes they just have a CD playing on repeat, which can get annoying if you don't have other distractions.
What I like about the place in general is that it doesn't attract too many annoying families with screaming, unruly kids like some of the other restaurants in the area - though there are some days I've gone and needed earplugs. It's mostly relaxed groups of young adults, which makes for a very comfortable atmosphere.
I really, really recommend trying this place out if you're at all a sushi fan. You will NOT be disappointed.
