I was recommended to Dr. Memar by two of my friends. Both had different treatments but the same good experience.
After my first visit, I felt that Dr. Memar was exactly what I needed. Someone who:
1) Didn't make me wait forever to see him
2) Gets to the point
3) Gives me simple topical cream for free. Yay!
I honestly thought that I was going to go there and get recommended for some uber expensive laser treatments. He came in, looked at my forehead with his magnifying goggles, and gave me his diagnosis. He then told his assistant to get me the cream and to have me come back in 10 days. Then he was gone...just like that. I could have blinked and missed him. But you know what, I don't like to spend a lot of time at the doctor's so I appreciated his swiftness.
As much as I enjoyed his speed, his ladies at the front desk could use a little work in the customer service department. My first time there, I stood at the first desk area waiting for someone to check me in. This older lady said, "uh, she'll help you down there. (in that irritated tone)" Ok? Sorry to bother you. I would have gone to the correct counter had there have been a sign. The same lovely peach screwed up my next appointment. I specifically said the 12th. I'm on my way home and I look at the appointment card. It says the 10th. I call the next day, and a different lady tells me "oh no, its the 20th." Ok?
Luckily, I can get over and continue to go there thanks to Dr. Memar!
When you walk in you are immediately greeted by whomever is there. They are very friendly and guide you to the correct person. I went for a minor dry skin issue that was bugging me for about 5 years. Dr. Memar told me to stop using any product with fragrance. It was a big project to replace my laundry soap, all tolietries, and household items. I had no idea how many scented products I used every day. Within a week my skin had completely turned around. I also think Dr. Memar has a great personality and I was very comfortable the first time we met.
I had a great experience with Dr. Memar. I felt very comfortable going in for a routine exam. I have recommended him to several friends since. However, the billing department needs to get its act together.
After paying for a treatment, I received letters and phone calls for the next five or so months asking my why I had not paid. I had to call the billing department every time I got a late payment notice to sort it out. Each time, the billing department indicated that the glitch had been resolved. Several months later, having thought the problem was resolved, I took a look at my bank statement and saw that they had billed me twice. To their credit, they have initially been responsive. I am not hopeful, however, that I will be credited any time soon, judging by their past performance.
So, see Dr. Memar, but pay with a check!
The best dermatologist that I have ever gone to. Any adult outbreak sucks. Dr. Memar is very thorough and very professional. He saved my life and got rid of the parasitic twin that was growing on the side of my face. Now that my face is clear, I can face the world, and show my mother that she can love this face again.
Having spent.......well, let me rephrase that...continuing to spend too much time in the sun as lend itself to making me finally have to see a dermatologist. A friend recommended Dr. Memar to have my exam for skin cancer. I'm coming to find out about half the city goes to this guy.
I find him engaging, a great desire to answer questions and available to set up appointments quite quickly if needed.
Folks indicate he is a bit strange, which I didn't seem to find him that way at all. He is professional and conducts himself as I feel a doctor should do, so recommend him if you are considering someone in this field.
I guess he deserves 5 stars considering homeboy kinda saved my life!
Like for real!
I would give memar 4 stars for his work with pre-cancerous screenings. He did a great job and like other said was quick and to the point...
But then today I went to see him for adult acne that has flared up in the past couple months...I want to give him 1 star for that. DON't Go FOR ACNE. he just want to sell is products and give you scripts...he wanted to put me on an antibiotic--no way. I have been on antibiotics for acne in the past for years at a time and blame a lot of current health issues on that with no pro biotic ever offered or recommended.
The second medication he offers is an anti-androgen...i looked it up and it had some bad side effects like increased utis, dizziness, messing up women's cycles... I specifically asked if I should be aware of any interactions with any supplements I take. Without asking what I take the answer was no...I looked it up and there is a possibility of very bad side effects with potassium intake. Also it completely inhibits the work of anti-depressants...he never even asked if I was on medication, for all he knows I could have been and this medicine may have had detrimental interations. So negative points there.
Also no discussion about diet, lifestyle or anything like that...he recommended $50 in products from his store...convenient hey? Like others have said I felt a bit like I was paying him to tell me to buy his products.
I'll give his products a try but I'm not happy overall and am going to try someone with a more balanced holistic approach.
update...tried the products and they are not great. The pads he gave me made my acne at least 4x worst...the shampoo left my hair greasy and limp and the conditioner was not good either . I took it all back. At least i got my money back.
After my sister referred me (shame on her), I checked this place out so Dr. Memar could check out an annoying rash I had.
His diagnosis: "You're body is telling you that it doesn't like something. You need to go natural - no perfume and use my products (shampoo, conditioner, soap) that don't have harmful chemicals. Once you cleanse yourself, your rash will heal."
Ugh NO! You want me to go buy all your products, pay you for telling me to go buy your products, and then come see you again for you to tell me to continue to use and buy your products. HELL'S NO!
Sad part - I bet 50% if not more of you readers out there had the same diagnosis. This guy is just looks and talk.
So, 15 min early to fill out the paperwork (okay, I really only came 5 min - as i know the drill, make me wait...) waited in the waiting room for about 20 min, then off to a room for another 20 min. Dr. Memar came in, sat down, consulted with me on why I was there, and next thing you know, my top was off ( ;) )and he was looking at spots on my back. Two appointments later and I'm happy to say, no signs of cancer.
My experience seems typical from the other reviews. I typically expect to wait, that's the luxury of drs in the city, you wait and they still come. I was pleased with the comforting and informative nature of Dr. Memar. He looked at my skin, discussed my regimine and never once tried to entice me to look at his product line.
I look forward to future needs as we're all getting older and I play to stay looking young.
i was referred to Dr. Memar by my doctor to treat mild excema on my hands, that although mild is painful and never seems to go away.
i have to say, what i found amusing and acceptable may not be received the same way by other people. Dr. Memar is a little abrupt and abrasive. He is also really knowledgeable and while I prefer a lot of questions and longer visits with a doctor, he seemed to identify the problem right away and offered a lot of advice and finally the best treatment plan I have had in a while.
Yea, he does dress in a 3 piece suit with a flower and does have an entourage of medical students and does leave the end of the visit to an assistant. But, the assistant was only left with tasks and questions the doctor didn't need to attend to and I felt that I got care that was above average.
My biggest pro was the Dr. Memar and his assistant were not judgemental. I am covered in tattoos and more often than not doctors are undereducated about care for tattooed skin, make assumptions about how well I care for myself and overall sometimes seem a little less concerned with care and more concerned with the tattoos. Dr. Memar offered a skin check since I can't use some of the same methods to identify skin cancer or disease as other people. I was so happy that he was professional in that regard and concerned with my issues rather than my tattoos.
The store that he has down the street was kind of excessive (not in design, but in purpose) and a lot of people might not like that he is trying to sell his product, but I didn't feel that he was only interested in selling product from his store. He suggested a lotion that was not from his brand and only $12 for a large bottle, that has helped my skin A LOT. May be a tactic to get me in the store to buy other products, but I didn't and I will go back to get more when I run out.
Despite any pro's and con's I really recommend Dr. Memar - I feel like I got good care in his office.
Dr. Memar is quick and to the point.
I appreciate him & his work, as he is very professional.
Havent tried is products though...
My ex-boyfriend was diagnosed with skin cancer at the age of 36. When I started dating him, I tried to continue making excuses for why I had never been to the dermatologist for a mole check. I couldn't hide anymore. I had to go.
My general doctor at Advocate (see my review of them) referred me to Dr. Memar. I was definitely nervous as this was my first time letting some strange man inspect my body in detail.
When I called the office to schedule my appointment, I spoke with the most cheerful, patient, and caring woman. I now know that her name is Pat. What a SWEETHEART! And she wasn't just this way over the phone. Upon arriving at the office, she must have felt my trepidation. Pat was nice enough to calm my nerves at least a little.
I was brought to the room in a timely matter and met quickly by a cheerful nurse. Now here's the kicker... The doctor walks in and I see him for the first time ever. Oh, no! HE'S HOT!! Now I get shy and start to tumble over my words. He senses my hesitation and continues to work in a professional manner.
I, too, thought his examination was a little rushed but I think that's because he know what he's looking for, he knows what it looks like, and so he knows it when he sees it. Nice! That means less time standing there feeling awkward.
I have no hesitation in visiting Dr. Memar for any dermatological needs I may have in the future. Especially if Pat is there to brighten my day and ease my anxiety! Can I take her home with me?
Revised 28 October 2007
...It takes great courage to acknowledge and admit a problem had existed, realizing that actions needed to be taken to correct the situation. It seems to me, Dr. Memar has gone above and beyond his best efforts to provide his patients with better service by dismissing this extremely rude receptionist before she was able to cause further damage to Dr. Memar's practice.
While I was not dissatisfied with Dr. Memar's medical service nor the fee charged. I was outraged and very angry at how I was greeted for my very first visit to this office.
I accept Dr. Memar's gracious apology and I wish Dr. Memar continued success and prosperity.
The initial posting will remain to serve as a reminder on how not to treat a patient that enters through its doors.
.... .................................................. .................................................. .....................
My no nonsense dermatologist packed it up in Chicago, keeping only his distant Peru, IL office open. My ever so thoughtful doctor thought the world of his countless, devoted patients and made sure they were well taken care of. He referred us to Dr. Omeed Memar.
So, one afternoon I decided to give Dr. Memar's office a try. The receptionist told me there was one appointment available at 5pm, so I grabbed it.
When I arrived, I rushed in, as I was a few minutes late, you know... the city and all..., congestion, rush hour, inclement weather, most doctors understand that. Well, I opened the door and was greeted by this Piranha behind the front desk.........Can I help you, she snapped!...Well, I have an appointment to see Dr. Memar..."Who did you talk to?...the office is closed"!...she barked. Well, I came all the way from Kansas ma'am to see the great and powerful Omeed. ..."I can't find you on here!" ...as she hunted for my name on her PC....... she looked feverishly to find a way to get rid of me, so she could mount her broom....fly off and circle the Loop, leaving trails of black plumes of smoke behind her...... It was dusk and time for her to fly!
I mean, I came all this way in traffic and I just have got to see him. I'm sorry I'm a few minutes late and all, you know the weather...and I'm here already. WELL, AM I GOIN' TO SEE THE DOCTOR???.....as I raised my voice several octaves in aggravation. "The doctor will be with you in a few minutes, SID DOWN!" ........I sat down.
.........If only I had a bucket of water handy, I would have doused her with it.... I thought to myself.....Whatta witch! ...or did i mean Bitch?
....Then she comes by me again, flings a paper for me to fill out! Oh and we don't take checks, only cash or credit card and it's $175.00, first visit. ...Fine!
As I'm sitting on this poo poo sofa, a sudden chill ran up my spine, I realized I was in this glorified Clinique body repair shop for the birthday frenzied and perpetually vain! ....OH MY GOD I SAID! Glancing 'round the room, I was startled by the botox looking faces glaring back at me from the wall..... My biggest nightmare ensued.......
I came in for a simple pimple on my ass and got a panic attack in the process......... thinking I would walk outta here as stiff as an old ceramic mannequin head from the now defunct Goldblatt's on State St.....I was just terrified!
......Step this way the doctor will see you now........!
Well, I didn't know what the Great and Powerful Omeed was going to be like.....let me tell you, he knows his stuff, no doubt! Took less than 5 minutes to reach his prognosis and wrap up the visit. However, when I brought it to his attention, how rudely I was treated by his receptionist, i felt, he just shrugged it off, offering his analysis as, they get that way. Who wears the pants in this office, I said to myself. Let no one discount my complaint!
If you're going to charge $175.00, treat all your patients with respect and professionally. I work hard for my money and do not find pleasure in someone being ungrateful & abusive, when I'm a paying customer.
This is not an office that solely specializes in dermatology.
I think this is a pilot office for the new .....................Vanity Clinics of America!
I had professional and top shelf treatment by Dr Memar's office staff, and by he himself. His staff was friendly, courteous and professional from the initial phone conversation to my first visit. I was greeted immediately, and my paperwork took a simple ten minutes to complete. Dr. Memar himself came into the reception area and said hello, and introduced himself to me. I had a thorough and comfortable interview by a resident doing a fellowship with Dr. Memar, she was courteous, professional and knowledgeable. My procedure, botox injections of the brow and and facial area was completely explained to me, and I was totally at ease before and during the procedure, It was relatively painless, just some stinging, and one week later I have very natural and pleasing results. I am quite sure this is due to Dr, Memar's expertise, and knowledge of his procedures.
I highly recommend Dr. Memar! In fact I have already referred several friends. His workmanship can be seen throughout the city, and it speaks oh so subtly for itself. He is the tops in my book, and I plan on seeing him for ongoing treatments!

I love Dr. Memar. He's awesome. I was originally at a different dermatologist and he was absolutely terrible. I've got an HMO so I've gotta get a referral and I called my doctor and asked that I get a new referral. Luckily my referral lady is fantastic and gave me Dr. Memar's name and number.
Well I went in because I had these things on my cheeks that weren't going away and this mole thing on the bottom of my foot. Well Dr. Memar got the white things on my cheeks to go away and he removed the mole thing on my foot. He sent that to the lab and it was fine but he wanted me to come back two weeks later to check on me. He listened to all my concerns and my mothers and was just fantastic. He didn't want to freak me out about the potential that could have been on my foot so he didn't even let me or mom entertain those ideas.
I'm glad I don't have a need to see Dr. Memar any longer but in case I ever get any skin issues again, he's the first one I'm calling. He's fantastic as well as his staff. I wish all doctor's and their staffs could be so great.
I go to Dr. Memar because of his credentials and convienent location in the Loop. I know that one of my fellow yelp reviewers mentioned that Dr. Memar is quick - he is! That is why I go to Dr. Memar in the first place. I can go to the doctor on my lunch hour and still have time to actually eat!
Dr. Memar is a bit quirky and there is (how should I put it) "an empasis" on cosmetic dermatology and plastic surgery around the office. However, Dr. Memar has removed moles for me and dealt with several skin conditions. He explains everything you want to know and will answer any questions you might have.
If you are looking for someone to get you in & out and who "knows his stuff" then I recommend Dr. Memar. You definitely need a sense of humor to go there, though.
Dr. Memar is the WORST dermatologist I have ever been to, and I think I have seen around 9-10 in my lifetime. He took me into a room and just told me a few "maybe it's this" and "maybe it's this", he never examined my skin, just looked at me across his desk. This guy is seriously a joke, don't waste your time. Also, on his website is a HUGE picture of him, if that doesn't say all ego - no skill, I don't know what does.
I saw Dr Memar a few months ago for a wart removal. I was referred to him by Northwestern's patient referral service. The reviewers are correct here. He can be quick in and out of the office and you will have to pin him down to get a more detailed explanation. I won't hold that against him as virtually every doctor I have seen has been like this, save for a few GP's. (I have seen LOTS of doctors). His office was clean, modern, bright and otherwise professional. The doctor is very upbeat, full of energy and will display his personality and sense of humor, again, much unlike most other doctors. Overall he seemed knowledgeable and professional. If I have another dermatology problem I would go to Dr Memar again.
For your own sake, do some research on this guy before he does any work on you! I went one time and didn't go back. His proposed approach would have weakened my skin with steroids and compromised my immune system with antibiotics. I googled his proposed treatment and saw it wasn't remotely up to date. I think Memar is too distracted opening his big skin store, developing his skin care products and opening his enormous shiny new office. This guy's priorities are just all wrong. BTW, I'm getting great results from my current doc (NWMH) without these health issues, and without the attitude.
After two misdiagnoses--one from my dermatologist I had for 7 years and the other from a podiatrist, I asked my GP for a recommendation. He sent me to Dr. Memar. I was able to get an appointment quickly, and I didn't have to wait too long once I got to the office, unlike my regular dermatologist who has made me wait almost an hour on a few occassions. Dr. Memar can be very abrasive, and he explained that Middle Easterners have a tendency to be loud. Having dated Middle Easterners before, I understood what he meant and knew he meant well. After a month or so, my skin problem disappeared. In the year since I've seen him, he's opened up a retail store which is sort of pompous in my opinion. But...he gave me the correct prescription, and I'm happy with the results.
I must admit, my initial review of Dr. Memar wasn't 100% positive, but I have been moved to revise my judgment. He may be a bit quick in the office, but the man knows his stuff and he's a real pro. Definitely not the cheapest around, but I've found out (the hard way, really) that you really do get what you pay for when it concerns these health issues. Dr Memar is ok with me.
I have been a patient of Dr. Memar's for about 3 years and I couldn't recommended him more highly. He is personable, caring and extremely knowledgable. I have seen Dr. Memar for both general dermatology and cosmetic procedures and have always been very satisfied. I always feel he has my best interest at heart.
In addition, the office staff are very nice--they always make me feel welcome and seem to really care about the patients.
I have referred several friends to Dr. Memar and all have been very pleased with my recommendation.
I haven't been to see Dr. Memar in a couple of years, but I just wanted to say how awesome he is. It's hard to find a doctor of any kind (general physician, dentist, whatever) who actually takes the time to listen to you and what YOU want to do, rather then diagnosing the problem in 30 seconds and throwing a prescription in your face. He's a such a joy to talk to, so friendly and he really wants to help you. Also very understanding about how expensive medications can get even with insurance; I told him that I wasn't going to try something because it would have been $100 WITH insurance so he gave me a whole box of samples for free. That worked out perfectly because I got to try out it out without spending money on something that might not work. The receptionists are really nice too. I've always had a great experience here and I HATE doctors and have had especially bad luck with dermatologists in general. I was never rushed through my appointments and the wait time to see the doctor is minimal, no more than a couple of minutes in the room. He also has a partner whose name escapes me right now; I met him once and he has the same great bedside manner as Dr. Memar.
Dr. Memar's practice is highly focused on his cosmetic expertise vs. the other areas. He's very curt! I'm sure he's knowledgable, but it hasn't come through on my visits. He said my skin problem was something that it actually was not. I'm glad I didn't take the meds he prescribed for it. I actualy went to another dermatologist to get a second opinion. My husband and I've been to him and both feel so rushed and that he's focused more on $ than patient care. I do not doubt that he's great at what he does for some, but he just didn't work out for us.
Spent 4x as much time with his assistants than with him. Terse, impersonal, didn't ask many questions. More interested in selling his personal products than anything else. The "pharmacy" which sells his stuff was creepy. Got a referral someplace else, much happier.
