Salads that serve as a vehicle for cheese, olives, and dressing!
Huge sodas!
Garlic and cheese bread that can't be beat!
Huge pizzas with creamy cheese and tons of toppings!
Family prices!
And the staff even dresses up on holidays!
You've got our family business, Olympia Pizza rocks!
Love the pizza, good crust, heavy on the cheese (not a bad thing), good salads. My son loves the blue cheese salad dressing and I buy it and bring to him in Montana when I go. My husband likes to order pasta, and he loves the meatball sandwich ... If you want less cheese on your pizza, just ask for less!
Not a chain, owner operated ... and IT HAS BOOTHS !!! Love it when the cheese is browned on top. Been going here for over 10 years. You will see everyone and ever type of Capitol Hill character in this restaurants. One of the few that caters to everyone.
Living on the hill I've been stopping by Olympia for a long time. Salads are always ginormous and delicious. Pizza is deeper dish, crust and cheese are a little on the bland side, but the sausage (placed on raw, cooked on top of the pizza) is fantastic.
Skip the veggies, they turn the pizza into a watery mess cooking under all that cheese.
Staff is always friendly, good all around neighborhood joint. All they need is a pac man machine in the back!
Lived in NYC for years and got spoiled. This place has THE best pizza & spaghetti and meatballs in Seattle. Reasonable prices and excellent staff.
A neighborhood institution.
So let's see. This place was not that impressive, but at least the waiter didn't make me feel uncomfortable for dining by myself. I ordered the minestrone and a spinach salad. The minestrone was hearty and delicious, but the salad was bland and boring. It left a weird film in my mouth, and though it was huge, it only had a couple pieces of the artichoke hearts and tomatoes that led me to order it in the first place. It just so happened that I was having a very emotional day and my dinner (and the beer that went with it), as lackluster as it may have been, turned my mood around and made me feel like a new woman. This may or may not have been due to the restaurant itself, but I don't mind giving it credit. I'll just say that this will not be the place I go next time I'm craving a salad, we'll leave it at that.
I used to live down the street from this location about 6+ years ago. That's probably the last time I stepped foot in this restaurant as well. I gave it a couple of tries and the pizza didn't do me right...too greasy, too heavy, I could barely get through one piece before feeling like I had eaten the whole pie. I stopped going. I like my pizza to be a bit thinner and less greasy so I can cram about 3 pieces down my throat and not feel (too) guilty about it.
JP mentioned a few weeks ago he wanted to give this place a try. So, me being the accommodating fiance that I am, agreed to go last night. Place was pretty crowded (it was a Saturday night) full of couples, large parties and families with infants. They had Manny's on draft, so I was content. We ordered a 1/2 Greek salad (the 1/2 was more than adequate for the two of us), garlic bread and a large pie (half Olympian and 1/2 Margaretta. The salad was delicious, probably my fave part. The pizza was still heavy and greasy like I remembered it, but it wasn't too bad. Perhaps I will come back every couple of years instead of 6+ (and definitely get the salad...yes, the salad!)
Sagittarius & I stopped in here for a quick bite after a long drive across the state. There were a decent amount of people inside so we figured it should be okay. And it was okay. But just okay.
The pizza, though huge and attractively topped with fresh tomato slices, was bland, overly bready and overly cheesy. I know it sounds crazy to damn a pizza for being too cheesy, but such was the conundrum of Olympia's veggie pie. Our dinner salads were typical pizza parlor fare; no surprises there, good or bad, but the prices are much too high for such average food.
Overall a disappointing experience and the minute after paying the bill, I wished we had saved the money for something a little more special. If we do give this place another stab (Sagittarius really liked it and there's a different Olympia Pizza and Spaghetti House near our apartment), I'll order the pasta instead. I still believe impossible to make pasta too cheesy. Please don't prove me wrong, Olympia.
If it were 1984 this would be the best pizza in Seattle. If it were 1984 I would be able to eat pizza. And Big Brother would be making note of my pizza consumption (rate and preferences).
But it is not 1984, and I had pasta which should have been really hard to fuck up - yet they achieved the overcookage of my spaghetti, meat sauce and sausage. Yes - it was ALL overcooked.
Still a nice place to go and have dinner with a bunch of friends. Even if one of those friends is lovingly caressing his new Yoda backpack and another one of those friends won't stop talking about how his fart made you throw up when you were knocked up. In a situation like that - you don't so much want to eat anyway.
I love Olympia! It's one of my favorite pizza places. We always split a house salad and get a delicious pizza. Service is fast and the servers are sarcastic, yet friendly. Kind of heavy, but whatever.. it's tasty!
Perhaps we should all agree this Olympia's has perfected a new genre of crust:
It's PARLOUR crust, how bout that?
Sorta sicilian, sorta deepdishpie, sorta medium thin crust seattle-style... surely 'greasy' has to be mentioned, but there are chains, local and otherwise, selling much, much greasier pies.
Suffice to say : it reminds me of Shakey's or Pietros but without the bitter aftertaste of all the sugar those nasty parlours used to put in their sauce, and also sans the bitter emptyness of one's pockets having played past your young abilities at OMEGA RACE or/and JOUST. [A wink and nod to all the Nixon babies out there].
Dive? Yes, a bit. Generous helpings of comfort food well-prepared sans video game static? Oh hells yes. Great Service? The very best, most honest and sincere service I ever get from a pizza joint in Seattle. Even All-Purpose Pizza in Leschi, where the owner sits down and chats you up, doesn't ring as true and homey as this place's staff: I feel like it's my aunt taking my order in her dining room.
Far too underplayed in the yelps here: the GIANT salads. The GIANT salad values are what drew me and mine to this joint, and we stayed for the supercheesed semi-chicago-ish pizza pies. Order a half salad, and plan on saving some for lunch - you cannot say I did not warn you
The large pies are a little small, diameter-wise compared to the usual 16+inch pies out there, but do not be deceived... that 14" pie has easily a pound of cheese and no one skimped on toppings.
Are you a fan of hawaiian? With extra cheese? With the cheese baked on, so it's a potpie style pizza, golden orange cheese nearing the crunch stage?
Ah, brother, have I a pie for you: Order the large number twelve. Let it cool 5-10 minutes before lifting a slice, get yourself a retro-loving pitcher of root beer and a friend or two to share with, and enjoy.
Pizza Parlour PacMan dying (and going to heaven) sound-effect; optional.
Aunty, can I have seconds?
My husband and I wondered in here 2 weeks ago and I still can't stop talking about the pizza.
We ordered a meat filled cheesy pizza that had to be in the top 5 of my "favoritest pizza's ever" list!
It was so thick I could only eat 2.5 slices where a normal pizza I could eat 4-5 slices.
We also shared a Greek salad that was large enough for the two of us and darn tasty.
This is one of the best restaurants in Seattle, in my oh-so-humble opinion, but here's the thing --- I can tell you that there's ample seating, great service, and a really warm, nice, comfortable atmosphere, but I can't tell you f*** all about the food. Here's why: I've eaten at this place four or five times, and all I've ever ordered is the Greek Spaghetti. It's Spaghetti drowned in shredded Mizithra cheese, butter sauce, and whole cloves of garlic cooked to buttery softness. It is quite simply the best plate of food on this planet. Period. Whenever I go to this place, I order the same thing 'cause it's so good I don't wanna chance anything else. I can't imagine anything else they have being as good as their Greek Spaghetti. And that's why I can't really tell you anything about the food, 'cause the Greek Spaghetti is all I know anything about and all I can tell you about that is that it tastes like God cooked it. I guess next time I go there, I'll force myself to try another menu item, but in the mean time, I very highly recommend this restaurant.
Update 3/18/2009: Went there again last weekend . . . got the f***ing spaghetti again . . . I think I have a problem . . .

Had a Friend up from Tacoma today and we were walking around went for coffee then looking for some food and ended up here
I had heard a lot of good things from friends but had never made it here till today, man was it worth it we had a Medium Pizza and it was excellent
I don't care for a lot of Pizza Sauce so asked for it with Pesto instead good to go
we both enjoyed it and the price was right on service was quick and very personable staff
Love the Old School feel of the place and really enjoy eating pizza in a booth its just more relaxed
I will be back for sure can'r wait to try some of the other stuff on there menu
The pizza is of the satisfyingly greasy variety. If you're craving pizza you won't be disappointed coming here.
This place makes super delish veggie pizza WITH NO CHEESE (you have to ask for them to make it with no cheese though) ! I love that because eating pizza is always a feat for me. Cheese and my bowels are a poor, poor match. But not the Olympia Veggie Pizza and my tummy.
Normally, I hate olives. I hate those colored onion things on my pizza, but for some reason, it's just really good here! I ate most of the pizza in one sitting.
They also are super generous with their salads (they seriously give you a huge mound of greens) with olives and for you cheese eaters, lots of cheese.
I don't know if their veggie pizza is completely vegan or not (I'm not) but it's cheese-free enough for my tummy and I did not get sick!
Hurray!
Oh yeah, I came in a few minutes before closing and they made no gripes on my take out order. I even got 2 magnets from the chef to stick on our fridge. :)
Disclaimer: I am a NYC metro area pizza snob who is slowly adjusting his expectations to this area. If you put spinach on pizza these days I'm pretty much good to go, and I'm sure my family would be shaking their heads in disgust reading this.
Olympia's pizza defies style categorizations. It reminded me a bit of the pizza at Acropolis in Kirkland, but still unique; a relatively thin crust with a heap of simple but satisfying toppings and a large amount of cheese. Somewhere in between Chicago and New York - perhaps it is the oft rumored but rarely seen Cleveland style pizza?
My dining companion and I enjoyed a medium Greek Special ($18) though, and there was plenty left over - the size in inches is deceptive because after the toppings and cheese the pizza is more filling than a "normal" pizza of the same size.
A warning to those who are in any situation suggesting etiquette here: the pizza is a bit too unwieldy to eat normally with one's hands, but seems a bit skimpy to be using a fork.
The last nice thing was that they didn't rush us and kept refilling water despite sitting there for over 3 hours.
It pains me to round down as I really do want to give this place 3 1/2, but while I liked the pizza, if I were in the mood and in the area, I would be hard pressed not to go to Palermo down the street instead.
Have you ever walked past a restaurant a million times and never noticed it? And then, inexplicably stop one time and think, why the heck haven't I gone here yet? We had that experience last night with Olympia Pizza in our neighborhood, and surprisingly found a comfy little neighborhood pizza joint. Pizza and beer? Sign me up.
It reminded me of old-school pizza places that I went to when I was a lot younger. They played Frank Sinatra, the decor was simple, and the waitress was nice but not overbearing.
The pizza, while completely different than the thin-crust, real-Italian style that I normally prefer, was good. The cheese had tons of flavor and was plentiful. There wasn't too much sauce, so I could eat without making a mess.
All in all, its a great place to go to get some pizza, relax, and just enjoy a relaxing meal.
Jack, my best friend growing up was the manager of Pinky's Pizza for years. It was the local family pizza place, they had video games, a beer and wine bar and pretty good pizza and subs.My neighbors Doug and Rosermary and the kids went here every single Tuesday for Pizza; my math teacher and his family went every Weds.
Olympia Pizza is exactly that kind of place. The pizza is consistently good, the sandwiches, especially the meatball subs, are actually really tasty and they have a good selection of beer. The staff are very friendly, and after you've been here a few times they make you feel like family. It's hard to want more from a family pizza place. Jack would be pleased!
This is my favorite pizza on the west coast (and as close to east coast pizza as I think you can get out here). For take out they are amazingly fast...after you call and place your order you should leave right away as they always say "15 minutes." My favorite pizza is the Olympia special as the pesto sauce and shredded pepperoni are amazing! I have also dined in with my friends and the service and food was just as good.
I went here with my friend because it was walking distance and we wanted to go somewhere with outdoor seating.
The Margarita pizza, and the veggie one sucked. The crust was too thick, and it was quite taste-less. I had a bite of each pizza and decided to just have the salad.
The salad was really good though, I loved it-probably cause I was so hungry. I had chicken added to it, and the chicken was also really bland and soaked in olive oil, but luckily I had it on the side so I didn't eat it.
Other than that I don't recommended the pizza or adding the chicken to your salad.
Stepping into Olympia Pizza takes me back to days of my youth...
...days where pizza was feasted upon in dimly lit, vinyl booths and root beer was sipped from big plastic red cups teeming with crushed ice. Where each table was stocked with shakers full of parmesan cheese and crushed red pepper (none of this communal condiment station b.s. that is so popular these days) and paper napkin dispensers. Oh, how I miss those days.
Perhaps that is why I am such a fan. It is great to be able to sit down in an old style pizzeria. The pizza is pretty good. They are a bit too generous with the onions, if you ask me. The shredded pepperoni is tasty. The salads are also pretty good, again, lots of onions. You can't go wrong with the Italian sodas. Did I mention crushed ice!?
Friendly staff. And, for those occasional warm evenings, they have outdoor seating.
Hellooooo, comfort food! This place is totally an old school pizza/spaghetti house, with wood paneled walls and red vinyl booths. I half expected to find a Ms. Pacman game in the back.
The food is super cheezy, super buttery, and super delicious. We're not talking high-falutin dishes here. Simple pastas, salads with black olives and cheese, and crispy garlic bread swimming in butter.
The waitress pours your water from a big barrel-shaped plastic pitcher, and the place is pretty much so old school that it's got an unintentional retro feel.
Plus, helloooo value: We got two entrees (which came with garlic bread and salad) for $20, and they were huuuuuge with more than enough left over for two lunches.
For what it is, this place is AWESOME. Don't go expecting decor. Go expecting cheap, yummy family-style Americanized italian. Surprisingly good on a cold winter night!
We go here every once in a while because we can walk to and fro and it makes me feel better thinking I'm walking some of the cheese off my thighs after gorging on the pizza, which is good, but probably nothing special. The salads are meh, but big. As in, I could probably get a salad and one piece of pizza and be good. I mean I eat like 12 pieces, but I COULD have just one.
The interior is a little drab and dark, but there are a few outdoor tables if that tickles your pickle. And we've always had good service, which I've read can be kind of iffy.
Problematic Olympia, I had such high hopes for you! First time there, had the baked spaghetti. Temperature and pasta texture were fine. Suspiciously unfine was the fact that the pasta was baked into a brick of overdone, gummy cheese. Top this off with severe overspicing (parsley and oregano to the hilt) and the meal was unpalatable, even for leftovers.
Second time it became clear that this place has an issue with over-cheesing their dishes. Don't get me wrong, I'm a cheese fanatic...cheddar, parmesan, morbier, I love 'em all. Unfortunately, Olympia proved to me that a Greek salad is no longer a salad when the veggies are obscured by an overly salty, dried out Feta. And, again, pasta (not baked this time) was emprisoned in a gunky cheese log.
Perhaps their pizza is up to par. Too late for me though, I'm off to get my Italian fix at Topolino's.
Olympia Pizza is my absolute favorite sit-down pizza place in Seattle.
The other reviews that mention the decor and atmosphere are dead on - this place feels like an old school pizza joint complete with (I think) the year round colored christmas lights. I fully admit that my taste runs a bit towards the dive-y, but Olympia is definitely clean and just a wee bit kitschy.
As far as the pizza goes, they manage to achieve a miracle of sorts. Every pie is piled high with a truly ridiculous amount of toppings and delicious cheese yet I've never had one sog out under the load. And OH the toppings - their spicy pepperoni is killer and the sausage is a generously chunked, real and delicious italian sausage. On their house special they do something I haven't enountered before - shredded pepperoni which is, to coin a phrase, extra tasty crispy
But to eat only the pizza here would be a tragic mistake since there are other, equally excellent options. I will admit, I haven't tried the lion share of dinner options, but this is not a place you go for lasagna. The sandwiches are cheap, enormous and delicious, especially the meatball and the previously mentioned sausage. The greek spaghetti is RIDICULOUS and is worth smelling like the 40-some-odd cloves of garlic you'll be ingesting.
Bottom line being, if you're down for large, reasonably priced, damn tasty italian comfort food you NEED to come here.
It's a funny thing. I must have walked past this place a million times in my life. But never once have I noticed it. Having gone a few nights ago, I feel a great amount of regret for not noticing it sooner.
Olympia Pizza is the first American-style Italian restaurant I've ever seen in Seattle. And it does not disappoint. The food is terrific and very simple. The service is also fairly fast. Also, pretty good variety in dishes, despite the lack of gnocchi, I was satisfied with the choices. And when I say that the price can't be beat, I mean it.
This is a solid place whose proximity makes it a good go-to pizza joint for this or that. I like that it's not the most fashionable place. I expect to see a Ms. Pac-Man in the corner. The pizza is yummy and not too outrageous. I like their thicker crust than most of the pizzas out here. All in all, a good neighborhood place.
A good pizza and pasta joint. Not the best, but good. The hot sandwiches are probably the best thing they have to offer.
I had a regular cheese pizza. It was really solidly "meh". The crust was tasteless, the cheese was...odd. Overly greasy, and a little too solid in places.
And they don't have pizza by the slice. I didn't especially like having to order (or wait for) a whole pizza (even a small one), for myself. But, maybe I'm being overly harsh with that factor.
Anyway -- won't be going back here.
Come on guys and gals! If you can't even get spaghetti right no way am I comin back! It was bland and tasted like you popped open a can of sauce. What are you doing cooking for a bunch of blue hairs? I might have a bit of gray on my head but you can still see my natural color damn it! Oh had the pizza too and wasn't a fan. Thanks but no thanks. Der forgot about the service, it was nice.
this place is right nearby where i live. i am thankful. take out is simple, and i get plenty of tasty options, weather its one of their semi-deep dish pizzas or my latest favorite, the chicken parmesan. if you fancy a salad, the standard house is good, with lettuce, black olives & mozzarella. don't forget to try their house italian dressing, super mild and not too oily. if you dig soup their minestrone is great, you'll find a few stray cheese tortellini in there.
the only thing i haven't gotten into yet is their desserts, usually because i end up too full. the creme brulee sounds interesting.
dine in with whomever for sure, real comfy with booths, soft lighting and friendly service. they have beer too.
Yummy pizza, decent prices, good atmosphere. I really loved the booths, quite comfy. Any place that lets you take up space in their resturant for 3 hours without shoving you out the door is OK in my book. :)
Came here last meal of vacation because it smelled good (the food, the inside smells musty) and I just wanted a meal that wasn't trying to be gourmet and was a lot like homecookin. Had salad topped with cheese, garlic bread (so buttery) and spaghetti marinara. Just what I needed. Didn't finish anything!
We "Dined out for Life" here on 4/24 and had a great meal. Their pasta with pesto was delicious, and the Greek salad with chicken was huge, fresh and could have fed 3 people. The pie special we had for dessert was awesome (PB & Chocolate I think?). Our young server was pleasant if not a touch odd, but whatever. Wanta come back soon and try the pizza, which looked delicious. Why did so few restaurants support Dining Out for Life? Anyone? Anyone? Buehler? Buehler?
If anyone wants a meat pizza, made quick and pretty darn good, this is the place. We ordered by phone, ten minutes later it was ready and I had some tasty meaty goodness afterwards. As I have not gone into the place, I can't really give it a total review, however, the meat pizza is really good.
Gross. Nasty pizza, bad service, and an ugly restaurant. I can't stand it. I love pizza and I want to like this place since it's only a block from my apartment, but thinking about it makes me gag. :-(
I've only had take-out once from here - so 3 stars, giving them the benefit of the doubt. But the reason it was just "eh" was they put cheddar cheese on the pizza. That's just weird. And it was crazy cheesy and too greasy for me. Plus there was just something strange about the taste - but I couldn't put my finger on it. But it was ready in 20 mins.
I have spent my whole life going to this restaurant and it is consistanly good. This is the only place that I have ever been to that has salads so large I cannot finish them and that is an amazing feat. The pizza is great. . .the cheese is on top of the topings, which I like and the crust is right between thick and thin and always cooked perfectly. I highly recomend this place. . .it rocks!!
Best pizza I've found in Seattle (not that that's saying a whole lot). It's pretty cheap though, the crust is good, and it definitely fills you up.
I must admit I loved them when I first tried their Manicotti and Canniloni combo, that was a few years back. I remembered as being ooey gooey cheesy goodness.I never tried their pizzas until yesterday. The husband and I went here for dinner. The dark dining room gave us relief from that muggy , sticky heat we had. We both started out with a pitcher of beer, to share . Ha, I am not much of a beer drinker, but the night was very warm, and having pizza without beer is just a no-no in my book. So anyways, we ordered the House Special (ital. sausage, salami, shrooms, olives, bell pepper) and a Hawaiian with the addition of Jalapeno peppers for that kick. The pizzas came out bubbling hot and with all their cheesy glory. some would say the cheese is overkill, I don't mind, but my stomach does. I thought the pizzas were delicious. The crust had a nice crunch and chew factor. I appreciated that too. I know this place isn't everyone's slice of pie (hahah I crack myself up) but I still love it anyways. They also have outdoor seating for your people watching pleasure. The staff are pretty friendly and very cordial.
