Review from Lauren V.
Olivia's is, without a doubt, the best little market I've stumbled upon here in Chicago. I've driven past here countless times but didn't stop in until this past weekend when I was in search of Spencer's Back Bacon, a British style bacon that I originally bought at the Lincoln Park Farmer's Market. Well let me tell you-I came out with a lot more than the bacon!
Olivia's has a wide variety of fresh produce and lots of local (Stu's Sour pickles!) and organic products. From fancy chocolates to a large assortment of Stonewall Kitchen products (yum!) to Boar's Head deli meats to Meyer's cleaning products...they've got more than I could ask for. They also sell wine and have a pretty solid craft beer selection (Three Floyd's, Dogfish Head, Southern Tier just to name a few of my personal favs). Their alcohol section is on the small side but impressive nonetheless-several great bourbon and whisky choices that would be sure to please my boyfriend.
I live in Lakeview but will definitely be making the trip back to Olivia's...its worth it! -

I live less than 1 block away from Olivia's, so I find myself popping in here often for forgotten ingredients or last-minute hostess gifts. They sell your usual staples of eggs, milk, and bread in addition to fresh produce, a decent selection of wine, and a good selection of cheeses and meats in their small deli. They also have an excellent floral selection, and they will wrap up your blooms in brown paper and tie off with raffia so they are ready to be shared with a friend.
As a side note, this is a very small shop. Don't expect to do your regular grocery shopping in here as you will likely find yourself searching desperately for the last few things on your list. Also, the prices are a bit higher than area supermarkets, but its convenient and they often have organic or novelty items you can't find elsewhere.
Overall, I wouldn't go out of my way to go to Olivias if I didn't live nearby, but since I do, I frequent here often! -

2 reasons to go to Olivia's -
#1 Extensive flower collection. The most unique (and not that expensive) flowers around. Just got my parents an anniversary bouquet here this past weekend and once again amazed them with flowers that they have never seen before! Talk about making an impression and showing that you really care!
#2 Meat and cheese selection. They must have a magical slicing machine, because all the wonderful yummy Italian salami's are as thin as paper and just melt in your mouth. Everyone is very knowledgeable and full of recommendations. I am getting hungry just thinking about it...
So, don't miss Olivia's! -

What a nice little grocery store/market to have in the neighborhood. I wish more neighborhoods had places like this. Yes, the prices are higher than the big box competitors. But the tradeoff is that you get good quality food, pleasant employees, and shopping trips that take 5 minutes to complete.
There is almost always a spot outside to double park as well. -

Seriously can't believe I haven't been in here before!
I stopped in quickly last week to buy some wine for my BYO painting class (see earlier review...). I didn't want too far, so this was the first spot I saw. It is the most adorable market and they have such interesting stuff.
First of all, the floral department is gorgeous - I wanted to take everything home with me! It was beautiful - I'm not sure where they get their flowers, but they are top notch.
There are fun cheeses, meats, and chips, snacks, etc. I was really impressed with the wine selection - there were unique finds that were reasonably priced. I wish I would have had longer to check things out.
This is a great spot for the area (and I sort of like that it's slightly off the beaten path, so it can maybe stay sort of hidden...for me!). -

I live right down the street from Olivia's, and couldn't be happier for it! It's nice knowing I've got such a great little gourmet market that's open late - I stop in time and again when I'm in a pinch and need a missing ingredient for dinner, or just to pick up some staples and wander the well-stocked shelves for some foodie inspiration.
While some items can be pricy, I think that's to be expected in a small specialty shop. Besides, I find that one of Olivia's best qualities is its variety. They've almost always got a mid-priced option if its top-notch counterpart is out of your price range, which I really appreciate. They recognize that sometimes customers come in to treat themselves to $15 honey, but that other times, just any old variety will do.
Some highlights:
- An excellently curated wine, cheese, and spirits aisle, with thoughtful staff reviews posted underneath each item
- A full service Boar's Head deli counter, where they're sampling something delicious and italian most days.
- Bins filled with new and old fashioned dime candy at the register!
- A self-serve coffee cart with fresh bagels...mmm.
- Best of all there's a small florist nook in front, with beautiful single blooms and arrangements on display. It makes the entire store smell really beautiful.
Olivia's is the quintessential shop around the corner. I swing by here twice a week or so, and am always glad I did. -

Maybe it's because I work just down the street, but Olivia's is really growing on me. I pop in here all the time to grab something for lunch. Yum! I usually head straight for the cheese section, because this seems to be one of the few places I can actually find Bella Vitano raspberry cheese, and GASP! it's a dollar cheaper/lb than Jewel.
However, I can't help but compare it to Fox and Obel, the other gourmet market I frequent (which is right down the street from my other job), but that's not necessarily a bad thing.
Olivia's Pros:
-Beautiful flowers! Haven't bought any, but they are gorgeous to look at
-Prices you'd expect from a gourmet market.. still expensive, but not too much sticker shock
-Location (I'll take Wicker Park/Bucktown over Streeterville any day)
-Always interesting items and things you won't find elsewhere
-Friendly staff
Cons:
-Smaller store
-No cafe, which would be a nice addition
-Less selection of items (not as many cheeses, meats, prepared in-store items, etc)
Overall, I really like this place when I'm in the neighborhood! As some other reviewers noted, I definitely can't see myself coming here for all of my shopping needs. But for a few quick or specialty items, definitely. I'll be back......probably on Monday afternoon for lunch ;) -

I take back what I said before. Olivia's is absolutely amazing!
First of all, their produce is SUPER fresh. Wouldn't trade it in for anything else, anywhere.
Secondly, they have the BEST BAGELS EVER. Their bagels are cheap ($2.29 for a bag of 5 pre-sliced bagels), and the wheat ones are perfectly chewy and keep for a long time.
Third, their bread selection is supreme. I wish they had a wider selection from Labriola, but I can't really complain.
They have a lot of jams and endless packets and jars of delicious Justin's nut butter. The peanut honey one is good, as is the chocolate almond.
Their wine and beer selection is also nice. The store layout is clean and it's brightly lit outside.
Also, I was here when the flower lady was in. Let me be the first to tell you that it smelled BEAUTIFUL inside, and the flowers are so fresh and colorful in here. Super awesome.
It's pricey, but I can deal with it.
ALSO - Chocolate banana granola from Milk&Honey. Just do it.1 Previous Review: Show all »

Very few things live up to my standards 100%. I would like to go on record saying that Olivia's Market lives up to my standards, 100%.
While I like restaurants, and boutique cafes...my true love is cooking at home. And when I cook, I like to use great ingredients.
I happened to be in this part of town, and decided I wanted to make a big salad with chicken. Olivia's had everything I wanted...and a few things I didn't know I wanted.
i.e. Jeni's Ice Cream. I went to graduate school in Columbus OH - and on many a hot night, the only thing to do was go to Jeni's for their amazing handmade ice cream. I was delighted beyond words to discover it here.
They have a great produce selection - small, and pricey, but everything I wanted. Avocado, Roma tomatoes, mixed greens, several varieties of onion, and several types of pears.
They also have an amazing cheese selection - from which I selected a very yummy bleu cheese crumble.
And the wine selection, while small...seems to be the very collection of wine I would have chosen should I run this shop. There is a small deli case in the back, and a nice selection of meats. To boot, they carry great coffees, and amazing oils for cooking.
Yes, this place is a little more expensive than most grocery shops I've been to, but its a boutique grocery store. I like the size. Its not overwhelming, and the products seem to be carefully hand chosen. There is even a flower shop - with a great variety of unique blooms.
I've already been back a few times, once to have one of their prepared sandwiches...and once to grab things for making dinner at home.
Check it out. Be prepared for friendly and knowledgeable staff, and a short wait in the check out line.
I am so glad I found this place. -

GRAT market. Lots of selection from wine to broccoli. I'm now into all the meats and cheese in their deli for parties and such. Friendly staff. I'm finding myself there more and more rather than hassle with Whole Foods.

It's the little grocery shop (almost) on the corner that you read about in kids books, but then never saw because giant supermarket chains took over the land.
Good selection of organic food, reasonably priced, well lit...and walkable! The healthier selection also inspires you to cook better dishes, instead of having so much to choose from and then choosing the easiest, you might pick up something you've never tried before.
I'm also a big fan of the hippie vibe being turned way down. Just because I want to eat something good for me doesn't mean I'm signing hemp petitions.

This is my 50th review on Yelp. It is an important milestone for me, so If you would please stare at my profile picture and give me a moment of silence............................
Okay. Back to life....back to reality (soul 2 soul)
What is Olivia's?
Imagine if Trader Joe's and Whole Foods had a baby daughter named Olivia. That is pretty much what you are getting when you come into this place. That is all you pretty much need to know.
I also noticed that a lot of the food they carry has companies behind it that want to tell their "story". ughhhhhhhhhhhhhh
It is always on the back of their packaging......
Like...."I was making a million a year on Wall Street then all of a sudden had a change of heart. I went on a 2 year sabbatical in South Africa....now I make cupcakes. Please enjoy my cupcakes! " okayyyy... don't care.
Customer service was eh, but a notable standout was the Deli Guy. The deli guy is very passionate about his job and super friendly. Somebody give that guy a raise! :) He let me sample the soup and give me a few slices of the deli meat to sample. He also knew his stuff and suggested parings.
Good job!!! -

I love Olivia's and was soooo happy when they opened. It's definitely pricey, but like most have said, part of it is convenience, the other part, in my opinion, is that they are a small shop whose owners go out of their way to bring in some great unique items under one roof! Fresh, delicious local, and not so local (imported) foods. If for nothing at all I love it for the great deli and those awesome Black & White cookies!
Truth be told, Whole Foods is also overpriced and I also would not do all my grocery shopping there, I would much rather support a local business and walk down the street to Olivia's to pick up a few yummy items! -

When I don't feel like hauling my butt all the way to Whole Foods, I go to Olivia's. While the store is kind of small, they have nearly everything you need to make natural and organic food. Also, even if you're not a regular here, everything is really easy to find.
The entire staff is super courteous.
The only downside is it's a little more expensive than Whole Foods. But overall, it's a wonderful addition to the neighborhood. -

I will 5 star any place I can leave my car running with my flashers on, run in, pick up a bottle of Hendricks and go home. Are youuu kidding?
In all seriousness, this place has met a variety of my culinary needs on numerous occasions. Their small deli has some great selections. Its selection of food, booze, beer, meat, and location are 5 star quality. -

I go here like every day. I love their Portuguese Kale Soup and Dolmas. They also have a killer roast beef sandwich on pretzel bread with horseradish mustard. Once in a while they have yummy fresh figs and little boxes of blueberries for me to munch on during the work day. The staff is super friendly and the place is always festive with flowers and a great selection of dried fruits as well as a decent selection of beers and wines for the last minute party offering. You never really know what you'll find in Olivia's.

Olivia's emphasizes my laziness. There is 15 minute parking available outside, on my street, 5 doors from my condo. I could turn around, drive a half a mile to Jewel, fight for a parking spot in the first two isles, and stand in line for 23 minutes to checkout with 15 items or less... or just go to Olivia's. That's what I thought.
Its a few bucks more for sure, but for an item you've forgotten, out of milk, or a quick salad and bottle of wine this place is the bomb.
I think these people know my name from my ID, that's how often I'm here. Is it sad I still walk in and say to whoever is at the register "I'm making stirfry, what do you have?!"
So it's pricey. But it's also local, organic, friendly, see your neighbors kids so excited about their very own tiny shopping cart kind of place. AWW!
Pick your battles, shop at Olivia's :) -

Cute and very European. More so than Treasure Island which claims to be "America's Most European Supermarket". A good selection of gourmet items of meats, cheeses, and sauces/dressings. Plus it has many "essentials" so you don't have to hike over Jewel-Osco.

While saying goodbye to my sweetie pie last Sunday I was overcome with sadness. Not having my manfriend around for 4 months doesn't go over well, so what's a girl to do? Go to a bar & drink away her sorrows? Nah. Go on a shopping spree. Nah, I don't need an excuse to do that. Ahhh, I know. Buy cheese...and crackers...and eat them for dinner!
I stumbled into Olivia's after an afternoon of moping around Wicker Park & boy am I glad I did. It's a cute little market that is full of little specialty items along with some major brands (cereal, crackers, etc). I passed the freeze dried fruit, the organic pastas, the insane amount of cracker varieties, and arrived home in the cheese section. Yum, yum! While reading all the different kinds of cheese they had & what they could be paired with (yes, they take care of that for you!) I decided on a delicious semi-soft sheeps milk cheese paired with some local sesame & garlic crackers. Both smelled absolutely delicious & I just couldn't wait to get home & stuff my face.
And stuff my face I did. I finished half of the cheese up that night & while my stomach wasn't too pleased I couldn't wipe that cheesy grin off my face. I'm hoping to find any and all excuses to make my way to Olivia's over & over again. -

I was bored one day and decided to go walking around Bucktown/Wicker Park because there are so many pretty houses and cute shops to discover...
and discover I did! I found this little gem!!! It's like a kids' sized Whole Foods.
Tons of FRESH FRESH FRESH fruits and veggies. Great selection of Kefir. Meat and sandwiches in the back. Most of their stuff is organic and 'healthy' but they do have some name brand products and a large variety of chocolate, candies, and cookies! But it's all really good. The strawberries I bought were perfection. And I've really enjoyed the other items, yogurt, kefir, cookies, etc I got as well.
My one gripe is the price...$5.17 for a box of Frosted Flakes?! Hellz to the no.Listed in: Bucktown and Wicker Park

Olivia's Market was the brainchild of a former stock trader named Billy, who was inspired by the wealth of tiny grocery stores in residential NYC. If you like shopping at Whole Foods, you'll have no problem finding the foods you love at Olivia's. There's a lot of local products here, too, like Milk and Honey granola and Terry's Toffee. The black and white cookies are awesome, and my girlfriend loves their fresh flowers that they get delivered every week.
The store is only a couple years old, so you'll see changes inside every so often, but they're usually for the better. You can now get a cup of fresh-brewed coffee and sip as you shop - perfect for those lazy weekend shopping trips.
If you drive here, there's a couple of reserved parking spots right in front of the store for Olivia's, but if they're full, you can park anywhere down the street on Wabansia since the street is no-permit. -

For some reason I like spreading my grocery shopping across five different stores and Olivia's is one of the stops on my grocery circuit. I don't buy much from Olivia's, but what I do get I really enjoy. So much so that I go out of my way to get said items.
My shopping list for Olivia's is the following: 1lb Oven Roasted Boars Head Turkey breast cut thin but not so thin that the pieces fall apart, lb Black Forest Boars Head Ham cut in a similar fashion as the turkey we discussed earlier in the list, 1/2 lb Boars Head Cheddar Cheese, and 2 black and white cookies.
The black and white cookies are the real reason that I make the trek over to Olivia's. These east coast classics are sooooooooo good. However, before devouring one be prepared to ask yourself the question, "Should I eat the black or white side first?"
I also really enjoy the all natural Boars Head deli meats. They actually taste like turkey or ham. Most deli meats are so injected with water and preservatives that they really don't taste like anything other than....water and preservatives. While I am waiting at the deli counter I typically flirt with the idea of popping for a jar full of Rick's Pick's. However, in the end I can't bring myself to pay $9.00 for some pickles or pickled beets. Sorry Rick... whoever you are.
1 lb turkey
1 lb ham
1/2 lb cheddar cheese
2 black and white cookies

Great little grocery store. Super awesome soups - especially the tomato cheddar. I sometimes go here and stock up my office kitchen with lunch-meat, cheeses (great selection), pita chips, snacks - that sort of stuff.
Prices - about what you'd expect for a small high-end grocer. But not terrible. $25 worth sandwich materials and snacks gets me through a week of lunches.
Favorite item: pretzel roll. they're like $1.50 and help make the world's most awesome ham sammich. Dip that in some soup - pure hedonsim. PURE HEDONISM! -

I stop here on a daily basis to pick up a few things. The sandwiches are wonderful ... especially the turkey with avocado, sprouts, tomato & onion for $6.50. Its always fresh.
They have an amazing fresh flower section ... all reasonably priced. I also like the laid back ... yet attentive staff.
They also have reserved street parking for easy in and out. -

I've only been here once for about 5 minutes.
In those 5 minutes, I managed to secure the absolute perfect sushi wine and a bacon-maple lollipop (with REAL bacon bits! Woo!) I also happened to notice while being checked out that the flower boquets up front are really original and cool looking.
Wine? Bacon? Flowers? Good enough for me.Listed in: Groceries with the most-eries.

J'adore Olivia's. It's right down the street and completes my holy trifecta of Bucktown: the library, the dogpark, and Olivia's. A bottle of wine, a book, and a happy pooch. Bliss. That said, Olivia's is never my source for staples. Treats and produce only. Otherwise, we head to Danny's on Western, which is terrible but far, far cheaper than the lovely Olivia's.
If you're wandering down Damen, Olivia's is worth a visit if just for the gorgeous fresh flowers they keep at the register, the tiny gourmet samples, and that one thing you didn't even realize you needed. -

Grocery-ing can be an event for a lady-pedestrian like me.
Firstly, I'm a lady who likes to grocery shop. I like the colors and smells of the produce, the way the flowers look (if there are flowers to be seen, of course), the way the dried goods stack up beside one another...and if there's a liquor department, I like to see decent wine varietals and a gorgeous bottle of bourbon proximal to one another.
Eureka, I say!
For the little things, on the way home, Olivia's in the place. I stumbled into Olivia's hoping to pick up some yogurt without the hike to any of the aforementioned establishments. I got it. And some coffee and a little Amy's soup. Truth be told, it's on the pricey side. However, for those on-the-way-home necessities, this is my favorite discovery.
I mean, c'mon. They carry the Woodford Reserve that Polonia does not. -

I just stumbled upon this place today. It's a nice little gourmet grocery....but bigger than Goddess and Grocer. They had a nice assortment of Olive Oils, Pastas, Noodles, condiments...the stuff you expect to see at a gourmet market. The produce is really fresh and usually lasts for a while. The store also has a small selection of wine and a small, but nice selection of imported and microbrewed beers. For example, I picked up a bottle of Allagash Grand Cru on a recent trip.
I'll check this place out first the next time I'm making a dish that calls for any ingredients I wouldn't find at Strack & Van Til. Other than that, I don't think this place could completely replace my trip to the larger grocery stores.Listed in: I *heart* good beer

Quaint, helpful grocery store tucked away off Damen. It's perfect for those few things you forgot to pick up at Jewel/Dominick's/Trader Joe's, etc.
I'm a recent college-grad, so it's not the cheapest place (that's the price you pay for convenience), but always clean, well-stocked, well-lit, and staffed by helpful folks. -

This place is, as other reviewers have noted, a mini-Whole Foods, without the crowds. Even though the store is tiny, I feel like I could spend hours in here. Their coffee that they have in-store is not bad, their black-and-white cookies are delicious.
They also have a great (and not too pricey) beer and wine selection.
It's a lot closer to my place than Jewel or Stanley's, so it's an easy go-to when I just need to pick a few things up for dinner; definitely worth paying the extra few dollars for. -

Oh Oh Oh Olivia's. This darling neighborhood market is amazing. Great selection, great brands, great deli, great spirits.
What does my basket always hold: baguette, Boar's head meats. Hummus and cheese. Fresh spinach, carrots and seasonal fruit. Jalapeno potato chips, not-dogs, and pita chips. And, of course, I save the best for last: a 6-pack of beer (Anchor Steam, Bell's or whatever my selective spouse has requested) and a fine wine for me. All this. Always under $50.
Why waste time and mental energy with a rickety cart at a grodie over-sized store like Jewel or Dom's. Spend some time at Olivia's. It's grocery therapy. -

I really adore Olivia's. Yes it is more expensive then larger grocery stores but you are paying for convenience. This place really has helped cut out my need for a car. When I am in a pinch and need something Olivia's is right down the street and has everything I need. Then I can use an iGo to head to the bigger shops for more economical bi-weekly shopping.
And I can't speak highly enough of their fine cheese selection.. I shouldn't be sharing this, but I hold this place accountable for the fact that my favorite jeans no longer fit.
I really am going to have to find a suitable substitute when I move out of the neighborhood.. but then again maybe my waistline with thank me. -

Olivia's Market earned their 5th star today with my discovery of their seven grain salad. I can honestly say that I've tasted nothing like it before, it was refreshing and filling as a side to my healthy dinner tonight.
Aside from the great taste factor, I need need need for it to have texture. Need. And this salad is all about the texture.
The seven grain salad consists of seven grains (master of the obvious, I know). I can't name them all but if you pop into this lovely market they have the breakdown of ingredients for you. I remember lentils. And I think mung beans. Seriously. Amazing.
And you know what else? I can't seem to walk into here without walking out with gifts for friends. There's really something for everyone here, your New Yorker friend, your sour-candy addicted friend, your friend who loves specialty imported beers, seriously need I say more? Go. Now.Listed in: Bucktown Bests & Wicker Park…
