Olive Garden is your basic Italian food.  They give you large portions and have a variety of American-Italian food.  I wouldn't say it is great, but it is filling and calorie heavy.  But, you should know what you're getting yourself into before you go.  The only time I go to Olive Garden any more is for the all you can eat soup, salad and breadsticks.  It really is one of my favorite lunches.

Huzzah! What a find!  If you told me that I could find real authentic Italian cuisine in my backyard I'd probably call you and your mother a nut!  How have I not discovered this place yet?  Where have I been?  Don't worry because if you haven't heard of this little gem either I will fill you in.  The "Olive Garden" is a local family owned restaurant hidden in the scenic city of Laurel, or as I'd like to call it, "Little Italy".

Now, I hear people talking about "local" food all time... "Food is best when local!" or "I will not eat that because that is not local"...  Well nothing's more local than this!  I mean they practically boil the pasta fresh in the back.  And their marinara sauce... mmmm  It's like Francesco Rinaldi whisked it himself this morning.

We started our meal off with mussels for our appetizer (no i did not find any pearls :( ).  Shortly after, our waitress brought us a basket of warm, piping hot breadsticks.  Succulent! I got a little wild and started dipping my breadstick in the mussel juice.  My waitress caught me in the act and gave me a funny eye, and boy... did I give her a funny one back!  We exchanged laughs.

Now I know what you're thinking... how has this little gem been kept a secret for so long? Let's just say that the people of Laurel know a classy place when they see it, and they keep their lips sealed. But I bet they don't keep their lips sealed when they're about to eat here! Huzzah! HUZZAH!!!  HUZAAWERWREAAVUIDZAHHHH!!!!!!!!

I will definitely be back, this is THE place to get Italian in Laurel.

So as they say in Italy, "Thats Amore!" and "Bien Venidos!".  Hope to see you at my "little Italian secret" soon!

Olive Garden? More like Oil Carton.

Here is the tag line for the commercial: "Oil Carton. When you're here, you're saturated."

It took about 15 minutes to be seated, even though there were plenty of open tables that fit our group size. Our server was very nice, and she offered us a sample of the house wine, which tasted like grape juice.

For appetizers we ordered the sampler and the bread and cheese plate. The sampler I selected had calamari, stuffed shrooms and fried ravioli. The raviolis tasted exactly like Pizza Bites, which are delicious, but not what I expected at the classy Oil Carton. Surprise struck again when we tried to dip the bread in the cheese dish. It was like they took a butter knife and scraped the cheese off a pizza into the plate. It was a solid bolis of melted cheese. So thick that when the bread made contact with the cheese, the entire mass of cheese exited the plate attached to the bread, clinging like a virgin to her first mate.

The menu boasts a whopping four healthy options, which are healthy in the sense they use a different oil. Guess what? Fifteen grams of polyunsaturated fat is still fifteen grams of polyunsaturated fat whether it's from peanuts or sunflowers. I got the shrimp that comes with linguine (I can't remember the pseudo-Italian name for the dish), and I asked for whole wheat pasta. The dish looked so sad, so limp, so unappetizing. I ate half of it, and found myself fishing out the shrimps and ignoring the pasta.

The really good part was the cheesecake dessert, or so I hoped. WRONG. The crust was as deep and thick as the manager's greasy hair, and as tasteless and stale as the hostess.

I love Olive Garden, but this location was HORRIBLE.  When we walked, the hostess saw us and audibly let the other hostess know it was "her turn" with a dismissive lazy attitude.

We then sat at the table and waited about 10 minutes for the waitress to come by (keep in mind they are not busy at all).  She came by tapped on the table and said she'd be back.  She took our order, and never came back with salad or breadsticks.  We were sitting there for 15 minutes listening to them cackling in the back.  We just got up and left.  I will never make that mistake again.

Oh, what was I thinking.  I'm embarrassed to say I was at the OG, but I was.  It had been a particularly long day of meetings with a co-worker and neither of us had the energy to rustle up a more presentable meal.

I wish I'd taken a little more care.  The food was less than mediocre and the server was just a little odd.

Live, learn and put it on your expense report.

Personally, I had told myself I would never come here again after the previous two times I came here. One time I had a reaction to my seafood alfredo, and the other time the food and service was just sickening. So now I feel odd leaving a great review in the midst of all the horrid ones.

However, I decided to give it one last chance yesterday and it was great! The hostess was polite, seated us in a great spot, and our waitress was great. Did not come by many times but always restocked our food when asked and most of the time prior to asking. Which is honestly a first at any Olive Garden. She was almost robotic in the way she recited off the usual greetings and phrases.

I kept commenting on how something must have happened because it was such a change from before. My salad plate was extra cold, the breadsticks were hot, salad was completely fresh and entrees extra hot and came out pretty quick.

And yes I know it's not real italian.

Apparently THIS Olive Garden didn't receive the recipes that all of the other Olive Garden's got.  I don't know why the food is so.....bad, yeah that's the word to describe it, but it is.  My favorite dish, Seafood Portofino.....they almost ruined it for me!  But I'm a good Christian so I'll keep ordering it from the other restaurants....or better yet making it at home.

C'mon people. It's the OLIVE GARDEN for chrissakes! It could NOT BE GOOD. If you've worked here, you know the food is delivered par-cooked in bags. They just shove that stuff in the microwave. You see, everything they serve at the Olive Garden has to taste like every other Olive Garden. There's no room for creativity, only consistently better-than-Chef-Boyardee caliber ameritalian junk food.

This was the worst service I've ever received at an Olive Garden.  We should've made it in within 10 minutes but they forgot about us. Then, when we were finally seated a half hour to 45 minutes later, the server took a long time to arrive.  He was not really all that friendly to boot.  He never offered us wine or any of the usual courtesies that Olive Garden provides.  He took our orders, which took forever to come out and then he blamed it on a "fight with the boss".  The food was typical Olive Garden.  It was pretty good.  Then the server took forever bringing us to the check.  I'll only return if it's punishment.

I did a take out order. It only took about 10 min for my order to be ready. I had the eggplant parm. It came with a big salad, bread sticks, spaghetti and eggplant. The spaghetti sauce was a tad full of oregano, so a bit spicy hot.  The rest was actually pretty good.   Total with a large coke was under $15.
