For those who don't already know it: Olipom, Bows & Arrows and Sell Out Buy Out - all started by Olivia Coelho and Co. - are a large part of why 2nd Saturdays have become as vibrant as they now are.  Between fashion shows, music events and the monthly revolving cast of local artists who show they work in her stores, Olivia has given the younger set a good reason to come out for what used to be a more stodgy event.

Olipom has consistently carried good items and helped local designers to get their work out there.  It may not be for everyone, but for those of us who are thrilled to see a diverse and thought-provoking selection of items, we give this small shop three cheers.

And for what it's worth: I'm happy to pay more than I would at a thrift store, because I'm supporting a small business that in turn supports other small businesses.  Too bad others have to tear something down just because it's not their cup of tea.

Let me start with a disclaimer: I have a huge crush on Olivia Coelho. Not in a I-wanna-make-sweet-love-to-her way, but in a this-girl-is-a-fashionable-amazing-sweet-person kind of way. Bottom line, she rocks! As for her store, Olipom, it definitely caters to the urban hipster -- you know, the same breed that managed to make the mullet fashionable.

That said, while hipsters can be a bit pretentious, Olivia and her store are not. The store has a great selection of vintage shoes and purses, and if you're looking for some over-the-top sunglasses, this is a must-stop shop. Also, as someone else mentioned, Olipom is the only spot is Sac to carry Vice Magazine - which is an awesome publication.

I'm not a huge fan of vintage clothing, but for those who are into that sort of thing - Olipom seems to have it covered.

I really loved Olipom at their last location, I used to find a lot of neat items, including pants (that fit well!), cool skirts and t-shirts. When a fire destroyed the building that they had their shop in, they moved over to 21st street. Unfortunately, the new store just isn't as cool as the last place. It's much smaller, and the set up just isn't as good. I've also found that things are more expensive than they used to be. There's lots of clothes that have been "re-done" and silk screened with various images. This stuff is cool, but most isn't my style and is very expensive.

My boyfriend did find a really cool button up shirt that he loves at the new location, and I found a neat travel bag, but other than that, it's been slim pickings. I will still stop in from time to time, but nothing usually catches my eye.

I have been wearing vintage for years and years.

I love it- but that doesn't mean that it is cute automatically just because it is old.   I thought that almost everything was either plain or just plain old ugly.  Trying too hard to be cool? Not to mention the "vintage" price tag included.  I could have found more inspiring vintage pieces at D.I. for a quarter of the price.

And as for the "re-working" of vintage pieces- I think the term "butchering" would be more appropriate.

PASS.

Like many other shops I've frequented in my time here, Olipom is definitely a card-carrying member to awesomeclub in Siobahntown.  The best part about this shop is the knowledge that SOMETHING will strike my fancy; and strike swift and hard, it often does.  It is a place where I've snagged the cutest dress with a flattering cut, the perfect pullover vest, or the latest splash on a tee by Skinner.  Olivia used to scare me (only because she is devastatingly beautiful/intense/nice), but now she doesn't.  Sometimes Pom-Pom will be running around or humping a rabbit puppet.  I've also met JKS here, who has become a good friend, and I can depend on her to stand up sleepily from the floor to help me coordinate an outfit together in less than two shakes.  It has taken a bit of a lull since Bows 'n' Arrows opened, but it is still the original facilitator of DIY clothes, brilliant consignment, and sweet little knick knacks.  Even if I'm just driving by, I have to salute the place, and shoot the busted-face mannequin a knowing smile.  Some great brands carried by locales: Bananafish, Reject, Martini Kisses, PrettyTrashy, and Porkchop.

Very small but quality stuff. Always has cute shoes. The owner is some kind of a seamstress and reworks some of the pieces into cuter stuff. My friend bought what started out as a mumu and ended up as a summery dress because Oliva took it in a bit. Also check out the vintage screenprinted luggage. Oh and if you spend over $5 (obviously easy to do) you get Vice magazine. I know Vice is supposed to be free but it costs business owners $$ to carry it and since this is the only place around that even has Vice, she can't be giving it away to all the freeloaders who will come in and take every copy (yes, people do that). Anyway though, great little unpretentious spot run by one of the nicest girls in Midtown.

what happened to this place?

having absolutely adored this store last time we visited sacramento, we were anxious to check it out again... sadly to our dismay, the shop has drastically changed, once 2 small spaces, it is now just 1 with the other space being a skate shop. not a bad idea, but unfortunately an over all terrible delivery/aesthetic. When we walked into Olipom, the boy working the skate shop side, stood in the doorway, facing the opposite direction talking to some of his friends- giving off a complete "don't even think about coming in here unless you're one of my buddies" vibe. awesome, thanks. yeah- we didn't.

the Olipom vintage store side has been reduced to a few racks of sad, super kitschy overpriced vintage shirts and dresses you might find for under a buck at a yard sale and maybe would wear to a costume party? and some extremely overpriced little kids little league tees that averaged at around $12 - $20 a pop. the guy working the Olipom side was even worse than the turned around skate-shop guy. not only were we not greeted with a hello/hi, worse, my boyfriend and i were both given the up and down (you know that uncomfortable look someone gives you when they check you over from head to toe) as if he was trying to figure out if we were cool enough to say what's up to.

i don't know, maybe we're overly critical/paranoid but my boyfriend agreed as we left the shop by asking "man, what happened to that place?" last year, the girl working was the sweetest, she even took the time to draw up a little map for us of her favorite sacramento spots we just had to visit while we were in town. we bought a bunch of stuff and were looking forward to returning...

hopefully the shop is still a work in progress for the new owners???

The owner is pretty cool. She rang me up and helped me with my purchases even though the place was crowded with people during Second Saturday. Great little place, connected to Flatspot via the same entrance. If I were a smaller man, I might fit into most of the clothes they sell, but I'm pretty sure they don't carry my size. I could be wrong though. I'll definitely  be back on a non-Second Saturday day.

when i visit sacramento, i always make a stop at olipom- the owner, artist and sellout/buyout originator, olivia coelho is one of the sweetest, nicest women and she always has the cool sunglasses and cute vintage pumps-

she remembers her customers too- i've often come in and she has a dress or two tucked away because she thinks it will just be perfect for me- and it always is- olivia also showcases local artists at second saturday events-  so there are always new visual treats to see when visiting olipom-

Cute store with loads of shoes, vintage clothing and bags reworked with a little something new.

Most of the ladies tops were in good condition [I saw a few with pit stains] but I really loved the screenprinted images that were added to the clothes.  I admit, I'm more of a vintage browser and would love to see new articles of clothing with the same Olipom designs on them.

There are some funky necklaces with vintage charms hanging in different angles and places on the chain.  Really cute.  They were 25$ each or 2 for 40$.

There was some cool artwork on the walls but it was so high [and I'm 6 feet tall] that I had to crane my neck to get a good look.

I didn't buy anything but I'd go back to browse and maybe get an original gift or two for my friends.

A NEW LOVE.

Its like a thrift store threw up all of its good stuff and ended up in Olipom! Olipom sells men & womens clothing & accesories, you can find anything from vintage dresses and shoes, to random cool things like 70's era luggage. The store also offers a lot of new products from local people/artists.

I spent an hour in here even though the space isn't that large, there's just so much quality stuff to browse through. The prices are definitely surprising (in a good way!), the owner is the sweetest, and its a great way to add something fresh to your wardrobe.

I could go on about how I love this place but it would be terribly boring.
