I absolutely hands-down agree with Deno. This is one of the best burgers in Texas.
I had a regular burger topped with grilled onions and jalapeno. So good, the meat was flavorful, the bun was toasted and it was cooked to perfection. The fries were fresh, hot, and crispy on the outside.
The beans are all you can eat - and come with biscuits. And Deno, thanks for the heads up on the Blue Bell. It was a great end to one of the best burgers I've had. -

BEST BURGER IN TEXAS...NO JOKE!
I suppose in a town known for the immaculate creation of the hamburger, you should expect no less than perfection in the hamburger realm. Uncle Fletch, creator of the hamburger, would wipe a proud tear from his crusty eye for Ole' West Bean 'n' Burger Company.
I on the other hand prefer to show my pride in their accomplishment by eating everything I can literally shove into my mouth...and I did...repeatedly. Yep, the napkin holder was in serious jeopardy during my feeding frenzy.
All burgers are a half-pound of fresh never frozen ground beef. Hand-formed patties cooked medium and served an a serious bun with lettuce, pickles, tomatoes, onion, mayo and mustard...then you can select from one of their specialty burgers or just add random toppings on your own. I had the Western Bacon Cheeseburger. I was giddy and lightheaded with pure food euphoria. REAL BACON, cheese, BBQ sauce (thick and sweet) and an onion ring. The meat is juicy, perfectly seasoned with a little crispy around the edges of the thick meat patty. When I bit into it I went in to silent glee mode and had to be revived with cheese fries also topped with cheddar and REAL bacon, and not bacon bits.
All burgers come with all-you-can eat pinto beans and ice cream. The beans were great but I didn't have much room for them, because the burgers are so huge. And when I say ice cream, I'm not talking about one of those cheap-o self soft serve machines--I'm talking about six flavors of Blue Bell you dip into cups yourself. ALL YOU CAN EAT BLUE BELL! It's good to be Texan!
I'm not kidding when I say this is the best burger in Texas. It's totally worth the drive to Athens. I will do it again and again. I will try all the burgers on the menu (which they gave me because I was going on and on about how great the burgers were). Next I'm having the Ultimate Burger with diced tomatoes, bacon, grilled onions, sauteed mushrooms and jalapenos grilled together with cheddar cheese. I will bring a towel.
They also offer rib-eye sandwiches, catfish baskets and chicken fried steak. Oh yeah, and a 1/4 pound burger for you sissies.
Road trip anyone? -

I give the burger a 5. Sparse interior. Not fancy. But I ordered the ultimate burger. I have had lots of 'famous' burgers but that really was an AWESOME burger. Good bean bar too - spicy or mild pintos. Place lives up to it's name.

I stumbled upon Ole' West Bean & Burger Co No 2 after trying to find a place to eat in Athens. I love these unassuming small town places. The Bean & Burger has a free salad bar and bean bar which entails two different types of beans. I had the chicken fried steak which was great. This is a must stop if you are ever in the area.

Well, therewas not alot of reviews of places to eat in Athens, so I had to go with was previously reviewed. Was ther over the wknd for a BBall tourny, and decided to check out this burger spot. There was hardly no one there when we went in so I was a little sceptical at first. The staff was friendly and the owner was cool.
On to the burgers. We ordered the Old Fashioned cheese burger, which was a 1/2 pound handmade patty with all the fixins. This burger was huge! It was cooked just right, juicy and tasty. The onion rings were light and crispy with a good buttery taste. Then there was the beans, both pinto and chili beans, all U can eat with cornbread. I was too full to touch them, but my associates indulged and was stuffed to the point of peak fullness.
Oh yeah, the bluebell ice cream cooler was also buffet. I did not indulge from being too full, but my associates had samples to top off. Also my associates could not finish their burgers either. All in all, check this place out for burgers when in Athens. -

Went in for a quick to-go order of four basic burgers. The staff was friendly, but this place shines for the dining not the take-away. Go prepared to sit on the solid wood furniture and enjoy the beans served buffet style and the hand dipped ice cream that also comes as part of your meal. We didn't do it justice by grabbing and running. Next time, we'll plan on hanging around and doing it right.
