Old World Inn
9 reviews for Old World Inn
The Old Wold Inn was my first experience with B&B too and I loved it!! The Inn has a very nice mix of modern amenities (60 inch projector screen, jacuzzi tub in the bedroom) and rustic, wine country charm (vintage furniture, home-made breakfast, etc).. Overall, we had a great experience. The staff was extremely friendly and made us feel right at home...
Extra points for the free goodies in the kitchen and the extensive DVD library... the L'occitane cosmetics were a nice touch too :-) Keep up the good work, Old World Inn!
With such short notice on planning our anniversary getaway to Napa Valley, the OWI it was. I read positive reviews on several sites and apparently HGTV, TLC's Trading Spaces and Oprah's magazine also gave it the ok. Most of the places I wanted to get were already sold out and this place gave me a last minute discount so it was hard to resist.
Since it was my first time planning a trip to Napa Valley I didn't realize that the actual town of Napa was pretty sketchy. There is not much there and the downtown area is going through some kind of renovation but honestly it was dead.
The OWI is tucked in a busy residential neighborhood but we got to stay in the Craftsman house which was across the street. We enjoyed all of the same amenities as the original inn except our buildings were renovated and more private. Upon our arrival we are immediately greeted by happy faces with lots of information. At this point we just wanted to relax in bed but we let them do their thing. I forget the name of our host but he was a talkative guy. He showed us around and pretty much told us everything we needed to know. When we finally got to our room (Acqua#3) we were pleasantly surprised. Huge flat screen TV, DVD player with a DVD library, ceiling fan, fireplace, four post canopy featherbed, breakfast nook, huge bathroom with a Jacuzzi etc. Since it was our anniversary I even paid extra to have our bed covered in red rose petals. Though a nice touch we later realized when you lay in them they will stain your clothes as well as the sheets. The bed itself was big and comfy which is always a plus. The fireplace was gas but it still added for a romantic effect at night. Right outside our door there were cookies and coffee/tea which were available 24/7.
In the evening they had a wine and cheese reception but it was nothing to rave about. During this time we had a chance to chat with our host and if I recall correctly he was from Texas. Nice guy but the restaurant recommendation he gave us was crappy. Later that night they had chocolate truffles out but since we are not fans of chocolate we did not partake. In the hall outside our room we chilled our bottles of Champagne in the common fridge and those stayed safe. Back to our room and we started up the Jacuzzi only to realize that though it was fairly new it was extremely loud. Some candles, romantic music and bubbles and we still couldn't get past how loud it was. We messed around with the settings but it didn't' matter. At night I am happy to report it was quiet and I don't recall ever hearing any of the neighbors.
Around 9 in the morning we woke up to knocking on our door. It was breakfast time. I paid extra to have it delivered to our room and though it was good, I soon realized we should have just gone to the breakfast room instead of paying extra for in room. I enjoy coffee but I'm not hardcore and coffee presses are all they have here. JOLT!
Going back now and reading these reviews, I am amazed at the high reviews here. It was nice but just ok. If I would've paid full price I would definitely be complaining. One thing that bugged me was that there was no phone in the room so how the heck where we supposed to call them if we needed something? This is a B&B and they are supposed to cater to our every need. Then again we are spoiled by the Mill Rose Inn in Half Moon Bay which boasts its 4 Diamond award from AAA among others. Also I asked for the "Free tasting passes at premium Napa wineries- worth up to $100 per couple" and we just got passes for 2 wineries which had a face value of a lot less. B&B's are supposed to have nice special touches that you can't find in a hotel and though this place has some of them it also lacks them and for that reason I don't see myself ever returning again. Not because I had a horrible experience but I just know there are better places out there that are either the same or a bit more pricewise but I would definitely be a lot happier. Location wise it wasn't central to the places we enjoyed. Wifey liked it a lot more than I did but she is much more easily pleased. Next time we come to Napa Valley we will be staying further North in a B&B in the middle of vineyards.
* Rose Petals in bed $45 - Though a romantic effect, it's not worth it as the petals will stain the white sheets and your clothes as well.
* Breakfast in bed $25 - Who doesn't like breakfast in bed..right? But this isn't a lavish breakfast that makes the extra bucks worth it.
I've been here at the O.W.I. for 3 days now with my new husband and we check out on Wednesday. This is the first time either of us has ever stayed in a B&B and we really didn't know what to expect. We chose to stay in the Walden Cottage which is separate from the main house and really feels like our own little home. I love the seclusion and the whole romantic atmosphere.
Some of the perks of staying here are the wine and cheese hour, the fresh cookies, and the late night desserts. I gotta be honest though, it feels a little weird to go to the main house in the middle of the night, unlock the door, and raid the chocolate deserts and wine. I always think I'm gonna get busted even though those things are left out for you on purpose! It takes a little getting used to.
Breakfast is interesting. You eat in the dining room with the other guests which is cool since you get to meet people from all over, but can be uncomfortable if the other guests don't seem cool at all. We didn't come to socialize with the other guests though so who cares!
The staff is great! Vic has maps aplenty and will make reservations and recommendations for places to eat and wineries to tour. He knows a lot about wine and wine country and really helped us narrow down our options.
The room is gorgeous! The jacuzzi tub is a nice size and the jets are well placed and don't nail you horribly in the back like some I've been in. The feather bed is big, comfy, and good for sleeping and "other things" (nudgenudgewinkwinksaynomore). There's a projector and pull down movie screen at the end of the canopy bed. I watched Angel at 6am yesterday and I was in sexy David Boreanaz heaven... If you get a chance to stay at this B&B, take it!

I know what you're thinking, not a B & B! I was thinking the same thing... board games with oakies, home movies, and a freakish display of porcelain dolls. But (with a capital B) Old World Inn is nothing like that. It turned out to be a great stay!!
The artists retreat, located across the street from the main house, offers a private get away from other guests. There was a 50 inch plasma TV, king sized bed, jacuzzi tub, and a huge bathroom that's almost the same size as the bedroom. To boot, there was a free wine pouring hour in the evening, followed by delectable desserts, hot breakfast delivered in the morning, and a very courteous and knowledgeable staff, ready to hand out free tasting passes for the local wineries. My husband and I foresee a long future with this B & B and are already planning another trip. Try it!

The Old World Inn was our first experience in a Bed and Breakfast and it made me into a convert. The inn was beautiful, inside and out. The amenities seem pretty standard until you realize all the small conveniences that make the difference. there is fresh fruit around to eat. The infused water is tasty. The tea, the chocolates, everything you never realized you wanted but now you do - it was all there. The staff is very knowledgeable, helpful, and kind. You tell them what you want (Syrah, Cab Sav, Grounds, Architecture) and they give great recommendations. They also have free tasting coupons, will make you reservations, and basically make you feel pampered. The wine pourings from local wineries were my favorite part - although it was all my favorite. The breakfasts were perfectly portioned and high end tasty. I will certainly return.

My husband and I stayed here for his birthday weekend.
It is one of my favorite BnB's we've found. I booked the room right off of the dining room so that we could be close to the chocolate. Which was awesome late at night and I wanted something snacky.
Besides the yummy chocolates, the breakfasts were superb. One morning we had a quiche type dish and the other it was eggs and cheese in a phyllo dough.
The room was also very comfortable. I liked having a separate room with a hot tub. My only slight issue with the room I choose was since it was right off of the dining room, when there was a group of 4 or more gathered, I could hear every single word they were saying. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to hear all about their day of wine tasting and how totally drunk they were. Just not at 1 in the morning. Can't really blame the staff for that though, can I?
Loved the Old World Inn. We cut out of the city a day early, called and they gave us the walk-in rate of -$20 on the usual rate...which was already very low...without asking.
We stayed across the street from the main house...but it was great. Had a small cozy room with a 60 inch projector screen and superrrr clean bathroom. Bed was most comfortable ever. Inn Keeper Janie was sooo sweet.
The wine and cheese hour (appetizer hour or whatever) was so great. Gave us so much amazing wine and treats. Sat and talked with other guests from CA (we are from Chicago) who loved it as much as we did.
We hope to come back to the Old World Inn!!
They made our breakfast to go because of tight schedule...it was amazing!
My fiance and I stayed there a couple years back, and we had a great time there.
The room was very cozy with a Plasma screen and there was a a large library of DVD's to watch. It's a great way to wind down after a long hard day of wine tasting.
Also the breakfast was a top notch gormet meal, not the typical continental breakfast you receive at most places.
I'm looking forward to staying there again as I hear they've renuvated many of the rooms.
I chose this place because they were flexible about the two night minimum and the decorations were not the standard ugly flower over flower over flower "what a B&B is supposed to look like" decorations. Everything about this place exceeded our expectations. We were given a tour upon arrival and settled into our "chocolat" room after a day of chocolate indulgence at Copia. Highpoints of the room were the projector over the four poster bed with pull down movie screen at the foot, and the classy white tiled bathroom. Downstairs, the make-your-own french press coffee, available at all hours, struck my fancy. Besides that, Hagafen came in to do a private tasting, there was a late night chocolate buffet (not that we needed more!), and a wonderful breakfast. The food wasn't homemade gourmet, but nicely presented and very tasty. Location is fantastic- close walk to town and easy to find.
