Old School Frozen Custard took my frozen custard virginity today. I was glad to THROW it at them! It was so tasty. People keep raving about frozen custard and I'd never had it before. The texture is heavenly.

I tried a sample of their vanilla flavor. Every day they offer vanilla, chocolate and special flavors of the day. In a small freezer at the front they have a selection of other prepackaged flavors as well. I bought a pint of pumpkin pie. Can't wait to dig into it!

My brother, and partner in frozen custard crime, tried the mint. YUM! It was also excellent. I will be back here soon. VERY SOON!

I came here when they first opened and got a free cone! I've been back with friends, and I can't seem to stop getting vanilla (cuz I'm like a vanilla addict or something). Others I've been with have enjoyed their special flavor of the day. I like that you can look up the different flavors online to see when they're coming up.

You can also buy pints to take home. I noticed that their case had a bunch of pints of some of the special flavors from the previous days, so if you miss your favorite, try seeing if they have it in their take home case.

Minus one star because it's ridiculously hard to park around there sometimes! Almost makes you give up on going to get yer custard fix!

Oh...oh, man. Oh, this is so embarrassing.

So, we wanted dessert, and heard this was the place for it. My boyfriend had been here once before, and when he talked about it, he just got this, dreamy, faraway look in his eyes, like I couldn't possibly understand.

So we got here, and I selected something called the "Muddy Buddy". I chose quickly because they were busy, and I just saw the words "peanut butter" and "chocolate" and knew it would be a good choice.

But...oh. Oh. It ended up being a brownie. And...and I love brownies. It was a warm, flaky-topped, dense, fudgy, homemade brownie.

And...oh, dear. I'm getting...um... it had peanut butter on it. Hang on...

*fans self* and on that, was the smoothest, coldest, silkiest, most delicious frozen custard I could imagine, like a happy vanilla cloud.

And...and on that... *looks down, face reddens*...was hot fudge sauce. And some whipped cream. And...and I tried a bite that had a bit of everything...

and...I'll just say it. You know the bits of your body that sometimes, if you poke at them enough, something kind of magic happens? Well, that happened TO MY MOUTH, right there at Old School Frozen Custard. I had to hang on to something. I think I wept, a little. My knees still shake when I remember it. Afterwards, I felt a little different. A little changed. I cradled my custard cup for a while, murmuring to it affectionately.

Ah, I was just a schoolgirl then, full of wonder and innocence....and I'm glad Old School was my first frozen custard. It was just the way everyone's first should be.

(P.S. It's big, though - go slowly and be gentle).

Such creaminess, such delight. Frozen custard from Old School is about as close to heaven as I'll probably ever get. I really want to work the word "motorboat" into this review, but that's so inappropriate. But if I could, I would. Try this place, it's awesome. Motorboat.

At first I was skeptical - custard? That's not ice cream is it? Sounded more like a pie filling to me. But after one bite I was quickly swayed. Although they only have vanilla and chocolate on an everyday basis they also have a new flavor of the day - everyday! Key Lime Pie is awesome!

This is definitely the place to head to for a sundae but beware - custard is way more dense and creamy then your typical ice cream so your eyes and stomach will probably be out of sync when you decide on that triple scoop goodness. So far I can't tear my taste buds away from the Recess Sundae!

MmMMMmm.....DELICIOUS!!!

This is NOT froyo or ice cream!! What's the difference: well the ingredients for starters...it's made with 10% butterfat & egg yolks which helps give it the silky smooth texture unlike ice cream. Secondly, how it's made...it's air whipped and served 20 degrees warmer.

Even on the cold overcast days there's a line to try out the flavor of the day. There are a variety of toppings to choose from (fruit, nuts, sprinkles & candy) or you can just choose one of their sundaes off the menu or make your frozen custard into a float!!

No offense to Seattle's favorite, Molly Moon's, but I would choose this over them any day!

I get it now... Custard is freakin' good!

I walked up the hill with a mission- taste Old School Custard!- which I had heard about on Yelp. Upon walking in I learned they serve vanilla, chocolate, and a flavor of the day. My day's flavor was Mango- perfect for the sun and vibe of the city that particular day. I ordered one scoop in a cup to go. My first taste of frozen custard was very good. I am a convert. I am going to compare the good custard at Old School Frozen Custard to a really really thick well flavored quality frozen yougurt.

FYI's~
* They have a refrigerator full of various flavors for purchase in pint size
* The chalkboard menu has suggestions- with fun names- for many different combinations of vanilla and chocolate with toppings- it is a cheaper way to go than picking a flavor and a add on
* They have a menu of what the "flavor of the day" will be posted- Hello... planning ahead... Green Tea sounds so good!
* A scoop was about $3

This is one of those establishments that causes me to curse my diabetes.  I popped in last night with Becky L and Kathleen M.  They both had the chocolate and I tried the flavor of the day, blackberry cheesecake.  Both were delicious, although I felt mine could have used a little more blackberry.

We entertained ourselves by reading their menu of sundaes--each seemingly more decadent than the last.  However, they all looked like they'd put me into a sugar-induced coma, so I was content with a single scoop in a cup (and they are pretty good-sized scoops too, so unless you're a linebacker or sharing with someone I would think twice about getting a sundae).

Some of my friends might consider this a sacrilage, but I'm going to come out and say it: Old School is my favorite ice cream in Seattle.  Yes, that's right, I like it more than Molly Moon's.

There's only two flavors of custard.  I've only eaten one of them.  But that one, the chocolate, is a paradise.  It's hard ice cream with the texture and flavor of soft serve, handed to me in a delightful waffle cone: 5 minutes of delightful ice creamy goodness!

The daily flavors can be winners.  I've had the smores and it was delicious.  But in the end it's the ice cream base that matters, and Old School absolutely nails that.

Don't make the mistake of getting the sugar cone.  You will be covered in custard a few minutes later . . . custard you could've eaten if you'd just thought to get the waffle cone that could contain it all!

If this stuff was $1 a scoop like the ice cream was when I was growing up, it would get an extra star.  But since this is custard in the 21st Century, 4 stars is about as good as it gets.

The flavors can be a wee wacky sometimes, but overall this is an awesome place.  Get it plain or get it with fixins', you can't go wrong.

I don't know if custard is better for you than ice cream, but I like to think so.  And it's the perfect after-Piecora's desert place, since it's right across the street.

Old School Frozen Custard is the best, Best, BEST frozen treat EVER!  Better than any ice cream, better than any Froyo, even better than any Gelato, the flavor and consistency is just heaven, you don't need to get any more than just plain vanilla to know what I mean.

I stopped here during my Seattle visit on my epic voyage (http://KananAcrossAmer...) and ironically my friends and I stopped before dinner and I loved it!  Places like Old School make me want to move back to Seattle ASAP!

Line is a little long, but trust me it is totally worth it!

My son absolutely loves this place and most of the time when we go just after noon mid-week it's a ghost town which I love.  Unfortunately frozen custard does unpleasant things with my digestive system.  I've had custard at other places (Scooter Custard) and did not have to make the same frantic mad dash to the toilet shortly after consumption.  However OSC doesn't seem to bother Baby J so we'll continue returning to this cool little shop.

Now, I really couldn't tell you why custard is different from ice cream. All I know is I've heard a shit ton about this place. Mainly from folks luxuriously describing how wonderful this custard is.

After our excursion at Plum we needed to satisfy our sweet tooth. Just a walk east up the hill and we were at Old School. It is a cute little place with 1950's/1960's pictures of high schools around Seattle. There is a massive chalk board on the wall that serves as the menu. A variety of concoctions await you with names related to high school like "The Locker Room" and "Homeroom". Very clever. Or you can make your own or just go with one scoop.

The custard flavors are minimal. You have your usual chocolate and vanilla and a flavor of the day. That day it happened to be spiced apple pie. I ordered that and requested Oreo's be included.

Hot diggity dog that is some good custard. It was thick and smooth. Being spiced apple pie the flavor was subtle and there were chunks of pie crust mixed in. I felt the Oreo's were a fantastic addition.

Me likey Old School Frozen Custard. If you have a disposition for anything sweet related you will enjoy this custard.

Flan in a cone? Definitely not! Frozen custard uses the same basic ingredients in ice cream, but kicks it up a notch with the addition of egg yolks (also present in flan, crème brûlée and other eggy delights). The yolks makes frozen custard into a silky, sinfully dense dessert.

I've had the pleasure of tasting the cherry cheesecake and Hawaiian coconut flavors. Both are true to their descriptions, if perhaps a little sweet. But my favorite experience was a sample of Ryan's Drizzle, which is the Old School version of an affogato: espresso poured over vanilla frozen custard. The strong, bitter coffee is expertly balanced by the creamy custard, and all I can say is: Wow!

Old School offers a schedule of their flavors for the month so you can plan your visits accordingly. The menu of other school-themed items (Recess, The Locker Room) is cleverly written on a blackboard. Service is pleasant enough, although sometimes a bit slow, causing lines out the door. Serving sizes are reasonable, especially for such a dense dessert.

With the variety of dessert options in Capitol Hill, Old School Frozen Custard is definitely at the top of my list.

Ryan's Drizzle is one of the best things I've ever had in my mouth.

I can't believe how good this stuff is.
Ryan's Drizzle is the vanilla frozen custard with two shots of espresso poured on it. I don't see why I should try any of the other flavors--- this is the best thing ever.

I'll go back next month and the month after and the month after.
Thanks, Old School Frozen Custard.

Is the number of half eaten pints of custard in my freezer. Seriously. I bet I'm a week a way from them knowing my name in here. But it's all good because they're in walking distance and it makes a great end of the day date with the man. Not to mention it's the best ice cream-ish-thing I've ever eaten. EVER. But you've all heard that already.

The only thing that could get better was if I could somehow merge their flavor calendar with my iCal. Then I would be nice and fat.

Ps. cheesecake, apple pie, and s'mores flavors are mind blowing.

Guess I haven't been converted into a custard fan. The day I visited the special of the day was cake batter flavor and that is just about the one flavor of ice cream/custard/whatever that I am not interested in.

So, I had vanilla and it was fine. It did not knock my socks off or anything, as I'd hoped it would.

I have to say I love their attention to detail and how all the decor and menu items are school related. Definitely a cute place.

I will be back to try a more appealing special flavor or perhaps a sundae, but I won't be making the trek for plain old chocolate or vanilla.

Pack your lactose pills! We're going on a Frozen Custard Trip.

The creamiest frozen treat I have ever had and I know for sure from my post-eating stomach revolt. But is it worth the pain? For sure! I just got a single scope of vanilla in a waffle cone. The custard was just pure silk and the waffle cone was an A+. One of our friends got the Muddy Buddy. I got a taste and was in complete heaven, but I could never finish it on my own!

So bring a friend or five, and enjoy the simple delightful flavors!

"Can I try the Green Tea?"
"Yeah, you can, but it's gross. I feel bad serving it, actually."

I chuckled and sampled, and yeah, it was on the weird side of okay.

Luckily, the chocolate and vanilla are delicious and oh-so-creamy. The Muddy Buddy was such a surprise--WARM peanut butter, hot fudge, and brownie cradling my creamy vanilla. Sooo decadent. Sooo good.

The line seemed long, but it moved really quickly. I was a little slow to pick up on the brilliant execution of the theme, which is hilarious. The Locker Room: "nuts, nuts, and more nuts!" That really made me a fan.

The smell of freshly made waffle cones has always been so comforting.  That sweet smell that permeates the air is (usually) a sign of good times to come!  Half a block away from Old School Frozen Custard you could smell the sugary goodness of a freshly cooking waffles and I practically peed myself in anticipation of having a) said waffle cone, and b) this magical thing called "custard" which I had never had.

I guess we showed up at the right time, because there was zero line.  I was slightly confused about what I should be ordering.... where are the flavors?  What?  Okay, I guess it's just Chocolate, Vanilla and the Flavor of the Day (S'more).  They had toppings galore, but I decided to pass.

My S'More custard was A-Ok!  The texture was incredibly smooth, creamy and dense.  While the marshmallow and graham cracker added some interesting texture, it really was just a tiny marshmallow and a tiny piece of graham cracker in my chocolate custard.  I feel like they could have put a bit more into the mix (or maybe I was just shafted with a mediocre scoop).  The chocolate custard though, that was good, so I guess I don't mind the lack of other ingredients.  Oh, and the Waffle Cone was very niiiiiiiiiice.

A small scoop (at $4) didn't seem like it would be a whole lot, but it's really quite filling.  The sweetness and the heaviness of the eggs makes this a dessert you only need a small quantity of, so that $4 really does go a long way.  Even though I finished my scoop, I kind of wish I hadn't..... talk about sugar rush!

I don't know why, but I really like this place.  The ambiance? The custard? Who knows...I just like it here.  I'd never had frozen custard before, and this was a great place to introduce myself to it.  It's so smooth, creamy and delicious!  I do like soft serve ice cream, but this was just soooooo much better!

I got the "Home Room" Brownies, vanilla custard, and hot fudge...YUM!  The boyfriend and I were practically fighting over it.  I got the last bite only because I asked him "you don't want anymore, right?" as I spooned the last of it into my mouth.  It was the only way to ensure that I would get it.  Luckily he didn't snatch it out of my hand and just conceded that I had won.

There's just something about the custard frozen goodness.  I know some have said it was "boring" and "nothing special" but *I* think it's fabulous, especially with all the toppings I can get. YUM!

I've made it to Old School twice now and both times the experience has been delicious.

I wasn't sure what to think at first as frozen custard isn't something I've eaten before.  My best description would be something like soft serve but more thick and buttery without any chemical flavors.

The first visit I had the cheesecake flavor.  The second time the special flavor was butter pecan (which I sampled and it was good), but I opted for plain vanilla.  Which is far from plain.  It's cold and smooth and creamy. Yum.

I've never gotten that Capitol Hill attitude here, the customer service is great so far.  I've also never stood in a monster line.

Just for fun, I'm going to write a review comparing three places: Molly Moon's (on Pine), Old School Frozen Custard (on Pike), ANNNND homemade ice cream made in the comfort of my own home (somewhere in the dark underbelly of lower Queen Anne).

Vanilla is the standard I use for ice cream comparisons, and this is no exception. I'll rate five factors worth 5 stars each, then use an intensely complicated formula of adding and dividing to assess the final star-age out of 5. These factors are: Flavor, texture, waffle cone, service, and... the wow factor.

Let's start with my own ice cream. After purchasing a $15 vanilla bean, I scoop it up into the heaviest cream I can find and chug it through my ice cream machine. Chug chug chug, some time in the freezer, and oila! Homemade ice cream! Now for the review:

HOMEMADE ICE CREAM FROM COMFORT OF HOME [9/5 = 1.8] so rounded to... 2 STARS

FLAVOR: Good flavor with real vanilla, but a bit on the light side. 4 stars.
TEXTURE: A bit too icy for my taste, but still better than QFC. 2 stars.
WAFFLE CONE: What waffle cone, I can barely make ice cream! 0 Stars.
SERVICE: Get your own. Please. 0 stars.
WOW factor: Kind of cool making your own, I guess. 3 stars.

MOLLY MOON'S ICE CREAM (on Pine) [21/5 = 4.2], so... 4 STARS

FLAVOR: Real vanilla bean, good rich flavor. 5 stars.
TEXTURE: Very smooth, no ice, but a bit "fluffy". 4 stars.
WAFFLE CONE: Excellent! Not too hard, good flavor. 5 stars.
SERVICE: Good, but maybe a bit slow in busy times. 3 stars.
WOW factor: It's really good ice cream! 4 stars.

OLD SCHOOL FROZEN CUSTARD (on Pike) [23/5= 4.6, so... 5 STARS

FLAVOR: Real vanilla bean not apparent, but good rich flavor. 5 stars.
TEXTURE: Amazingly smooth, no ice, melts just right! 5 stars.
WAFFLE CONE: Good, but a bit too crunchy for my liking. 3 stars.
SERVICE: Very fast, friendly, and expedient, even with lines. 5 stars.
WOW factor: Custard is COOL! Lol. 5 stars.

CONCLUSION: Both Molly Moon's and Old School Custard are excellent. Molly Moon's makes a superior waffle cone, but as the ice cream goes (or custard, whatever), I have to give it to Old School. My own homemade attempts at ice cream, while better than store-bought, pale in comparison to these experts. Maybe I need ice-cream making tips. Anyone?

What makes frozen custard different from ice cream?

-made with eggs in addition to cream and sugar
-less air incorporated during mixing (20% vs 100%), so it's richer
-served at a slightly warmer temperature, so it's softer than ice cream

(read for yourself on Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.or...)

Basically, it's fatty-er and gooey-er than ice cream - and inexcusably good.  Leave it up to Midwesterners to concoct something that my muffin top so wants to bitch slap me for right now.  People say the portions here are on the small side but, trust me, it's hard to eat more than a small-ish portion -  it's THAT rich.  I only wish they let you pick 2 flavors for each serving (I went with vanilla), but maybe they're constrained by the mechanism of that magic machine to only pump 1 flavor at a time?  I also tasted the mango smoothie.  It was good - more milkshake than smoothie - but, personally, I wouldn't choose to dilute the frozen custard with fruit & milk...the inexplicable texture of frozen custard in its pure form is half the fun.

I really shouldn't have gone to Peaks Frozen Custard first. My bad.

The capacity is that of a Molly Moons = practically non-existent. But the beauty? Only one child on the premises, all the adults came to play after work!

Same concept of vanilla (only 100% vegan option), chocolate and a rotating flavor of the day. And it totally meets the checklist of a Seattle joint: biodegradable utensils, bowls and cups. But of course, why have it any other way? *hugs a tree*

Now my gripe, sundaes do NOT belong in cups. Absolutely defies all the rules of ice-creamdom. I don't like the handle of my environmentally friendly spoon to be covered in fudge/syrup before I can even reach the custard part. And it's near impossible to share! Surface area folks, that's the ticket - sundaes belong in bowls where you can poke and scoop as you please getting a perfect pairing of custard/toppings with every bite.

You only think you know the meaning of the word "Creamy".

The selection may seem limited at first: vanilla, chocolate, and a "flavor of the day" but those few flavors combined with that luscious decadent texture are unmatchable.

Try just a plain cone or cup to start out, but when you go back be sure to try the various sundae combinations. (I have often gotten what they call a "dirty locker room", go ahead, ask THEM what it is.)

"Lorraine, you are my density!" I've sampled exactly one scoop of Old School custard and I haven't been able to get George McFly's lovelorn exclamation out of my head ever since. This custard, unfortunately, did not make me swoon, but the density...now, that was impressive. The perfectly spherical scoop of chocolate custard sat precariously atop my sugar cone, and promptly rolled right off into my lap when I tried to take a lick. Lucky for us we'd chosen to sit at a table, or I'd have been watching it roll down the hill toward downtown. It surely would have, too, probably gathering all sorts of debris along the way until it snowballed (custard balled?) into a giant road hazard and plummeted *splat* onto I-5. Ok, maybe not...but that stuff sure does stick together - density, I tell you.

Anywho, I grabbed the sticky frozen custard ball out of my lap and got a cup and spoon to contain the rogue dessert. Once I'd cleaned off my pants enough to be seen in public without incurring Immodium references, I sampled the chocolate treat. It had held up pretty well while waiting for me to come at it. It was still relatively spherical, with the exception of my fingerprints and one or 2 drops of meltiness. The texture was exceptionally smooth, which was nice, but it pretty much tasted exactly like chocolate soft serve. That's not necessarily a bad thing, but I can definitely get soft serve cheaper than a scoop of this custard, and it won't leap off my ice cream cone.

So, if you're in the mood for soft serve but need something that resists melting (or shapeshifting in any way), this is your stuff. Just remember to get it in a cup!

My friends must be the most patient people in the world.  I'll admit it, I can be obnoxious.  A recent example of my ridiculousness:

Friend's text:  What time are you thinking that you want to hang out?
Me:  Ice cream.

Friend:  Ummm.  Riight.  So, does happy hour at 5:30 work?
Me:  Ice cream.

Friend:  Em, you know it's only 8:00am, yeah?
Me:  Ice cream.

And that is how my friend and I ended up at Pike Place Custard.  While frozen custard may not be ice cream, it's pretty close and I'm not picky when it comes to sweet, frozen dairy.

There are three flavors to choose from every day of the week, which could get boring, but the magic happens in the toppings.  I tried the coconut  with a raspberry topping.  I approve.

At about five bucks a pop for a single serving, I don't think Old School is worth a special trip or a drive across town, but I'd be a fan if I lived in the neighborhood.

Frozen custard is generally too creamy for my tastes, but there's a time and a place for that.  I wasn't impressed by the other outlet in town, but the last time i went to St. Louis i had the original Ted Drewes goodness and i liked that.

Old School comes pretty close. The special flavors are neat, but the vanilla is where it's at. They spin up lovely concretes. The staff is cheerful and patient and the waffle cones are great. I'll stick with the concretes, though. So good.

This place was so good. So I can tell you the difference between ice cream and custard, extra eggs and extra butter..... yeah extra bad for ya stuff.
I only had a scoop of vanilla and a scoop of choclate 4 bucks, my fiance had The lockeroom sundae 5 bucks. His looked way better than mine. I just remember as a kid really not liking custard. So I didn't want to get to experimental.
It was so creamy and not too rich. Kinda like fancy soft serve. I will defiantly go here again.

I've been addicted since you opened your doors on the hill...you satisfy my cravings of frozen custard that could only be satisfied on the east coast.

I'll admit the daily flavors are hit & miss for my taste buds but I do love the strawberry, choco, vanilla, juicy lemon, peanut butter choco & raspberry. I've become such an addict that I started purchasing pints of frozen custard for home (so the staff doesn't recognize me). But i find myself checking your calendar everyday just in case i miss a tasty daily flavor.

Old school, you will still see me rain or shine stocking up on pints of creamy goodness.

Yes, it's true -- I went to this place 4 times over a 5 day period.  It's *that* good.  I have a serious addiction to frozen custard now.

They have chocolate and vanilla every day, along with 1 flavor of the day.  I very rarely get the flavor of the day, and instead go consistently for vanilla with hot caramel.

My mouth is literally salivating as I write this.

I was suspicious of the term "custard" at first, thinking it was going to be something gross and mucus-y like creme brulee.  but after trying Old School Custard, I am a convert!

This stuff is smooooooth!  it's nothing like ice cream except it is also, indeed, frozen.  smooth, dense, creamy, cool, rich....OMG I want some right now and it's 9:30 in the morning.

I love how they have a flavor of the day and you can check the calendar online to plan ahead!

This place was pretty SWEET. And boy, do I mean sweet. Went with the classic vanilla since it was my first time with the custard. Great texture - I like how it's a little softer and creamier than ice cream. Vanilla's the way to go for the first try. No toppings. Get the waffle cone if you have the room in your belly - they put some cinnamon flavor or something scrumptious in there. I have to say I enjoyed it immensely.

The portion was large and worth the $4. Can't wait to try the flavors of the day!

This is the REAL DEAL custard!!! but...
In Michigan we have a few really good custard places that I used to haunt with my friends on hot sticky nights.  This store has the custard right, but has quite a bit to improve on.

#1 price:  $6.50 for a teeeeny cup of custard!
Every place i've ever been to charged almost the same price as ice cream.  My favorite place in MI charges $4.00 for a LARGE (3 scoops) blizzard thing with up to 3 toppings.  At this place for $6.50 you get 2 toppings and a small small cup (maybe 1 scoop).

#2 toppings:
Okay you had a few little candy bars lined up on the ledge there, but what about some more creative toppings?  And how about when you buy a sundae or a blizzard type mixed item adding/leaving more chunks of item?  It was so blended it was a milkshake...

It was good, real custard... but I honestly don't think I will be back for the above reasons.  Getting custard back home when I visit once a year is enough.  If not, it almost would be cheaper to buy an icecream maker and figure out how to make it myself...

Key Points:
Staff: Average
Food: Real deal custard - YUM
Drinks: N / A
Overall: Meh.

I am definitely a fan of frozen custard.  There is a richness to the taste that reminds me of summer days of being a kid.  I'm not one to try the off the wall specialty flavors of the day...but I love the vanilla with the freshly baked brownies.

what's cool about this place is that it is open fairly late (which is the only time I have found my way there).  It's a perfect place to have dessert in Capital Hill with a bunch of friends!

As of 07/01 - no more hot dogs. Apparently they were not selling.

Two words. Hawaiian Coconut. Next Wednesday 07/08 - go there, eat it and you will be in absolute custard heaven. I promise.

I had an old co-worker rave to me earlier this year about frozen custard.  He's an older guy born and raised in the midwest.  Think "meat and potatoes", Schlitz drinkin', football jersey wearing, midwestern dude.  His idea of a night out was Olive Garden.

Anyway, he raved about how he found authentic midwestern frozen custard on Capitol Hill.  I thought....great have fun with your dairy queen soft serve.  I'll stick with Molly Moon's or Fainting Goat.

I STAND CORRECTED.

Frozen custard is bomb and Old School (while I have no basis for comparison) is awesome!  Eating frozen custard is like eating cold ice cream flavored butter.  It just melts in your mouth.  OK, I may have not chosen the best words to describe the experience, but trust me, it's good.  No line too!

My friends and I have been to Molly Moon's several times and thought we'd give Old School Frozen Custard a try.  We arrived around 8:30PM on a Sunday night to find the line not even 1/2 as long as the Molly Moon's line usually is.  We only waited for a few minutes before it was our turn to order.

While we had looked at the menu online before arriving, we were all still a bit confused as to what flavors they actually have.  Turns out it's only vanilla, chocolate, and the special (which was key lime).  They had so many choices of how you could get your custard.  I was between the cheerleader and the locker room and finally decided on the cheerleader since I thought the white chocolate and strawberries would be a nice combination.  The cups were filled to the top with vanilla custard and toppings.  Be sure to ask when you order if you want whip cream or not.  Otherwise, they just assume you want it.

Anyway, I ate my entire cup of custard, which in hindsight I probably shouldn't have.  I left with a bit of a tummy ache and a slight feeling of disappointment.  I didn't feel like I had anything special.  It actually felt like I had just stopped by Dairy Queen for frozen yogurt.

In looking back...if you like sundaes and making your own ice cream creations, you'll probably love this place.  But if you live for unique ice cream flavors and variety, you're better off heading to Baskin Robbins or Molly Moons.

Lucky me--I walked in on peanut butter and chocolate day :-). Custard is smoother than ice cream, and it's flavor is more even. These guys have it *so right*.

And serious added bonus for selling made in front of you waffle cones.
