This place is good for the area. We got there around 6:15 on a sunday night. We ordered a bagel, not toasted, with cream cheese and an egg breakfast sandwich. We had to wait about 10 minutes :(
They have a huuuugeee menu. All sorts of sandwiches and drinks.
The texture of the bagel is very crusty on the outside. Bagels from new york are firm, but not crumbly or crusty. This was more of a bready bagel than a chewy one.
I have only been here once, but the menu was huge, and my salad was delicious. We all enjoyed the food we ate here. We called in our order and then I walked over to pick it up and took it back to the Westin where we were staying. The breakfast menu also looked fabulous and I can't wait to go back.
ONYDB is my first stop before jumping on my board. I'll hop off the red line, avoid getting run over as I walk across the street , order my $7 breakfast burrito and my $4 fresh squeezed o.j. (Wide selection of breakfast meals) Bagels and spreads are yummy too!
4 stars because the joint is super small and can get a little frustrating considering all the gear everyone carries.
FYI I learned they have an off the menu item: chilaquiles
Pretty decent fast hash bagel sandwich. Was nummy (yummy and nom nom).
Coffee was a little weak, but then again I'll eat coffee grounds if I need to.
The place was clean. Some of the people behind the counter sounded like they were still being trained, but no shakes. Food was pretty decent and the price wasn't outrageous.
Kinda a small joint though, but it's on the way to the main lodge so whatevs.
Disgusting place. Tired to stop in for a bagel and the staff would just look at you like you're a haole on their island.
Staff was rude to boot, and I ordered a bagel, they grabed it with the same hand they were taking out the trash with (no gloves) and handed it to me.
I dropped it in the trash and ended up at Breakfast Club instead.
It's just okay. Mammoth needed a good place like this, bagels are fine, the spreads are good. The deli food, is average, its nothing like the planted reviews would suggest, its just better-than-okay. Service is uneven, so is the food. On one day you might get a pretty good salad, don't roll the dice on day 2. Its what it is....a Bagel shop in a remote location, so don't get your hopes up so high that you'll be dissapointed. That isn't fair to this place, and you can tell they are trying. They stand out in a very smart business way, they aren't serving country style food here, but what they do serve-- east coast mentality sandwiches, and west coast salads, is just average. Price shouldn't be complained about because anyone with a brain knows they pay for delivery.
Recommended when not busy. Very recommended during off season dates when you can enjoy a good cup o joe and a bagel, and pour over the newspaper. Great spot for the last day before home, or prepping for a ride back to san diego or LA.
Excellent bagels, decent sandwiches & coffee.
Great bagels, pancakes and breakfast burritos. You can get a $25 gift card for $20 and the prices are pretty decent in the first place. Seating is pretty tight, and they serve you on plastic plates, but it is my favorate place for breakfast in Mammoth. Eat and hop on the gondola for Canyon Lodge.
Quite possibly the best corned beef sandwich I have ever tasted.
Canters and Jerry's can stick their dradles up their manischewitz, because they have nothing on this gem in Mammoth Lakes when it comes to corned beef.
Sigh, it's too bad I now think it takes a six hour drive just to get an incredibly tasting corned beef sandwich.
Great spot for a quick bite to eat next to the mountain. The prices are a bit high for fast food from what I remember, but so are most things next to/on the mountain.
The only thing that really sucks about this place is how insanely crowded it gets during the busy time of the year. If you're in a group, have someone walk around and grab a table as one's available, otherwise you could find yourself standing and eating your pricey sandwich.
Best bagels within 350 miles. Good sandwiches and great pastries and bread.
They even make their own cream cheese and have several great flavors to choose from - try the Vegie Cream Cheese on a Honey Oat Bagel and the Lox Cream Cheese on an Onion Biali...
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
Would be 5 stars, but they seem a little disorganized and the espresso drinks are bitter, as if the machine is not cleaned properly and oils are building up on it.
That I live in South Lake Tahoe and buy my bagels here says something. As other reviewers have mentioned, this place is as close to a real bagel bakery/deli as you'll find in the Sierra. And it's pretty darn close! Admittedly I've not tried their knishes, but the bagels and cream cheese(s) are very good, and I always take a few bags home with me to freeze. They make huge breakfasts (many of which include a face-sized bagel), so big that even my big-eater boyfriend can be stymied by the enormity of what's on the plate.
Service can be slow on weekend mornings, but if you get there early you can avoid the backup.
heaven help me if i lived here! this was one of the freshest bagels i've ever come upon . . . in the mountains?!?! better not to question it.
i enjoyed a hearty cheese, ham and cheese bagel for breakfast and i was not disappointed! just as a bagel should be . . . crispy on the outside, tender and a bit chewy on the inside. made fresh to order.
but i'm taking away one star for price. ouch.
I used to work at a bagel shop in the Los Angeles area. One of the best. I know bagels on a level that most will never understand. I also know how difficult it is to make quality bagels at altitude. These guys and gals do a fine job of it. A very fine job. The quality and taste of these bagels are top notch.
They also have an extensive and good non-bagel menu, including a mean, kick-ass breakfast burrito that I love to get on my way up to the ski resort.
The only problem I have with this place is that they're pricey. Especially for a deli/bagel shop. Still, they're pretty much the cheapest eats around, except for that pizza by the slice place and that pita place, which are both a few doors down to the east.
Serious deli! At anytime of day, can you tell me you're not in the mood for a delicious deli sandwich and chips? Breakfast? No fear, they have that too! Egg-bagel-bacon sandwich for breakfast and a turkey-avo for lunch? Yes please! Not only do they have amazing sandwiches, but also a full-on breakfast menu, pizzas, desserts, cookies and pastries.
You will need a stop here at some point during your stay!
Overpriced. Nasty coffee. Bad customer service. Hopefully it shuts down like the rest of the crappy places in the village!
Beware of the bagel nazi.
Hubby and I mountain biked the "downtown" line from Mammoth and were starving. We walked in here. I ended up stomping out and hubby stayed.
I have extreme food preferences and allergies and asked my usual questions of the ingredients. The clerk did not want to answer my questions and he had a snooty rude attitude. I asked what ingredients were in the cream cheese spreads because often times they are not good cream cheese and filled with additives and stabilizers, etc. He just blurted out like the Soup Nazi on Sienfeld "you want it you eat it." "it's cream cheese and that's all I will tell you." He was so nasty that I just said "forget it" and walked out. Hubby ran after me and tried to persuade me to come back but I wouldn't have it. I left him there and went in search of something else and found the Side Door Cafe close by and had a great cafe late' and crepe.
Hubby and I met in the middle with our breakfasts. My lovely and kind crepes that came from really nice polite people and his lousy bagel that came with a price of buying from rude people. While hubbies bagel and schmear wasn't that memorable - mine was!!
This place has a fairly big menu but too bad I won't ever be returning to this place to try any of the items on there! I ordered a bowl of homemade chicken noodle soup and it was very bland and extremely oily. This might have been the nastiest soup I've ever had.
I agree with Don M. on this one. They have great salads, as well. Very hefty portions and fresh ingredients. If I had stayed longer in the area, I would've frequented this place more often.
I love bagels, and it's good here with different spreads, or as a sandwich.
I'd have to say I was very disappointed. Trying to get to the slopes early, I decided to stop by and pick up a ham & cheese croissant. I figured that would probably be the quickest... Place my order, they can nuke it and I'll be on my way...BUT NO... 20 MINUTES! The only reason I got my food that quick was because I realized they were calling # 23 and I was #18. WTF. So I asked... NO apology.. NO sorry for the wait.. nuthin... After the guy with the shaved head did nuke it, he let it sit there in the microwave for another minute or so. When I did get my croissant, it was all soggy, because it was sitting there in the bag. The guy with the shaved head has a real attitude problem... Another side note, when the cooks bring the food to the counter, why don't they just call out the number? Instead the guy with the shaved head just let's it sit there while he takes more orders. Letting the orders pile up. I understand that most of their food has to be prepared.. that's not the issue... It's the customer service that was a real downer. I understand that it was a busy morning and it was pretty packed... but that is NO excuse. While I was waiting I did over hear the owner talking with who seemed to be his lawyer about rent and how the Village is trying to run him out of his spot. But in any case, I don't think I'll ever come back. I'll be in Mammoth at least once a month, but never again at the Old New York Deli & Bagel.
i LOVE going to breakfast at this place =). i like the brie bagel sandwich, the lox bagel sandwich, and the egg and sausage bagel sandwich. VERY good!!!
Very Average food. Quite a large menu with many options and specials.
