Review Highlights
Old Navy is a clothing store for the whole family and reasonably priced. This particular store is HUGE! Three floors of clothing and accessories for everyone in the household including the dog.
My feelings on Old Navy are not simple; I find their vast T-shirt collection quite amusing and have even purchased a couple, I also have bought bathing suits, socks and a hooded sweat shirt all on the cheap and all have more or less lasted a little shorter than I hoped. The thing is I don't feel like an adult when I come in here; there is something about the lighting, the fixtures, the signage and everything else that turns me into a college kid again, weird, right? Maybe it's the T-shirts that endorse drinking alcohol?
The company is supposed to be known for it's service but I find that finding somebody to get the service from is often a challenge and it's a pet peeve of mine to hunt down an employee to ask if a shirt comes in another size or color.
So I guess come here for very casual attire and huge stacks of clothing but not for that one on one service.
HOLD ON!!! I'm not 4-starring them because I've denounced Diane Von Furstenberg and Citizens of Humanity. And this review might not be for you. But ask yourself the following questions:
1. Do I work out at least twice a day?
2. Do I like to wear clean, cheap clothing during my workouts?
3. Do I like breathable cotton?
4. Do I like to buy this apparel for a fraction of what I'd spend at Lululemon, Lucy, North Face, Sports Basement, or even Gap Body?
5. Is the $1.99-$4.97 per perfectly-tailored-for-pilates-and-yoga t-shirt price range attractive to you?
If your answers to #4 and #5 are "no", then you are clearly not spending the kind of money I do on non-gym apparel.
Since discoverin ON's clearance section, which is a treasure trove of loose-cut tanks and camis with built-bras priced at less than I pay for an apple at Whole Foods, I'm addicted. Plus, they now arrange by size and color. My tiny friends: you no longer have to dig through the surplus of 16s and XXXLs to find that XS or S t-shirt you just have to have for your spinning class.
It's actually a good, cheap, clean alternative to Lulu or Lucy or the Gold Club, for that matter. Go. Bypass the cheap crap you'd never wear even if no one could see you and it felt good on, and head straight to the back for comfy gym clothes that were meant to be regular clothes but that you know better than to actually wear in public.

I really hate Old Navy.
And not just because this store has the craziest most scary escalators I have EVER been on. And not because they have DOUBLE signs for floor one.
No.
I hate them in general. They're like Nordstrom's cheaper, younger more breathable sister. The only difference there seems to be is that they're made out of cotton and targeted at tweens.
I'm embarrassed to say I bought matching winter wear here several years back.
In fact...
anyone feel like buying a bright pink hat with pom pom attached?
C'mon I'll give you a great deal...
No?
Crap.
I cannot justify waiting in line around a block for old navy.. for those who made it in the store I salute you.... it looked like opening night for Harry Potter, Star Wars and Twilight combined... last year we had no problem getting into the store... this year there was only one way in and one way out.... after walking past several times and not seeing the line shrink we decided to go to our local store...

Got a cute grey sweater and three camisole thingy's for under forty yesterday
But their jeans don't… Read more »
I don't care what anyone says, I love Old Navy! I fully believe that their clothes are top quality at an affordable price. Some of the clothes I bought from here since high school are still in perfect condition - with no holes, rips, etc. Sure some people are turned off by the vibrant colors and preteen styles/cuts, but if you can just avoid the super bright colors and look for the simple basic styles that they always carryy (i.e. trench coats, v-neck sweaters, etc). They also have huge sales often (i.e. $1 performance fleece scarves/gloves/hats and $5/2 flip flops!) Seriously they run out so fast I always seem to miss out on them =/ Also, if you are a petite female, their sizes tend to run bigger, so pick a size smaller if you like clothes that fit you snug-tight.
This place is a great place to grab some quick basics and a few fashionable items. If you are in to the Gap style but may not have the budget to constantly buy your clothes from retailers like Gap and over priced and overhyped places like American Eagle and Abrecombie and Fitch, I truly recomend you check out Old Navy. I know the last few years they have kinda fallen off but they have some cool things in right now.
Old Navy is the cheaper, even more suburban Gap. Duh, get over it.
Tanks, tees, skirts, socks, underwear, hoodies, and sweaters that fit super well and aren't over priced. The store is always well lit, well staffed and generally pretty well laid out and kept up. Granted, I'm not buying jeans or a party dress here, but I really can't complain about a super soft, well cut, 6 dollar tank top. The lines at the register drive me nuts, as does the muzak, but that's what happens when you step into your own little slice of suburbia.
I shop here on days when "depressed" and "poor" battle endlessly to answer seemingly benign questions, like "How are you today?" I usually buy an armload of cute but common (yeah, I said it) clothing, then bring it back to return when I'm feeling better about myself. I do this at Old Navy because I have less chance of having "myy preciousss" moments with the lower quality items I get here.
This is not to say that Old Navy doesn't display some damn adorable choices. They've had some real treasures in the past (a polka-dotted dress circa Fall 2006, for one). And nothing beats this place for functional socks, plain T's and camisoles. However, if you hold up one of their, say, layering sweaters, you will surely see holes between the stitches. You can tell by looking that after washing, said sweater will stretch and its holes will droop like the gaping pores of a forty-year-old who's never exfoliated.
Customer service was great today, and their return policy couldn't be simpler or easier to work with (trust me; I know). I totally love trying on their jeans, too. They have a warped sizing system that lets me into a size or two smaller than what I know I'd wear elsewhere. Thanks, Old Navy! I needed that.
On those busy Saturday mornings, I pop out my Old Navy clothes when I'm running my errands inside & outside the house complete with my messy half ponytail & raggedy tennis shoes. I guess it's the magical comfort of cotton plus they're cute, simple without a whole lot of complication.
No flamboyant geometric, brand name, glow in the dark, glitterry, leather type apparel with feathers and all...
Yes, there are times when you don't want to walk out looking like Posh, Kelis, Bruno, Lady Gaga, Bai Ling, etc.
Also, this Market Street location has a wide selection of apparel including jewelry, shoes, bags, lotions, keychains, etc. However, expect a long line in the first floor and a couple messy clothes piles ransacked by vultures...in human form of course
Beware: some of the clothes do stretch out or shrink after a couple washes (unless you don't mind making a sweater out to be a dress, then there may be an issue). Most of my Old Navy tops stretched out and eventually became lounge wear after a couple washes
This is *the* place to shop if you are fat and broke.
I'm not actually fat (I'M NOT!), but around this time last year I gained some weight when I hurt my knee, got an office job, and moved in with my boyfriend. Let me tell you, that combination adds up to a 20 lb weight gain no matter how you work it, and it probably took me 6 months to realize that I was carrying this extra weight around. Well, I got back on my half-assed exercise regiment and rediscovered salads and lowfat yogurt and managed to lose the wobbly spots on my belly and upper arms (Cosmo would say I'm apple shaped. Cosmo would also say I don't wake my man up with a scrunchie-enhanced blow job often enough, which explains why I don't read Cosmo. Also, I have high self esteem. Correlation?)
Thinking I was back down to a slimmer svelter Jessica, I tried to squeeze back into my little size 29 7s and suffered a day of uncomfortable excessive muffin toppage. Oh, I forgot to mention. I'm 29, and now the sage wisdom of my mother in my frustrated high school years of being six feet tall with no boobs or butt came back to me. Everybody's ass gets big eventually. Looks like mine finally caught up. It's great though, let me tell you, any woman who has just resigned herself to never having an ass will agree with me, when you finally realize that somehow your trunk got junkier and it's there to stay, it's like motherfucking Christmas.
This is where Old Navy comes in. First of all, it eases the transition to larger sizes because their measurements are so completely skewed. I wear a large in most tops, XL depending on how they're cut (boobs, okay? boobs) but with Old Navy I always wear a medium. Second of all, they have sizes on their racks as large as 16 or XXL, so if I do slide back into the habit of planning every meal around a hearty portion of tater tots and cheese sauce, I know they will accommodate me.
Thank you, Gap Inc and all the tiny little child slaves who make this cheap fat girl clothing possible. My burgeoning ass appreciates it.
This Old Navy is the motherload of them all. Multiple floors of never ending clothes. I love how they have a dedicated the top floor for just Children's clothing and maternity. I can spend couple hours just looking for clothes for my kids. I am warning you that the women's section does get crowded, especially on the first floor. If you have the patience, you can really find good deals. Their quality is a step below Gap's, but for kid's clothing it doesn't matter. Kids won't know the difference anyway!
I really don't care about name brands ... and old navy is pretty cheap, crappy & who cares. I really think Old Navy is going to close within the next year. It was pretty empty - and they made me take some silly survey to get a coupon for a sale that is happening in 2 weeks - whereby everyone & their mummy will have already received the coupon emailed to them about a gazillion times. So again who cares.
Got some kid bargains though. Nothing for me though - I like ROSS!
Friendly, helpful & courteous staff going on here.
So when was the last time you went to buy something and the cashier told you "Did you see we have that similar item on sale for considerably less money?"
I was looking for cheap all-cotton pajama pants: I wear them under some rough-flannel woolly ones as a liner against my sensitive skin. Went to Ross down the street $16.95 and did not think that was such a bargain (because I go through at least 4 of them a year (usually put my foot through the crotch when putting them on in a hurry when they have gotten washed too many times).
So, I'm at the cashier at Old Navy with a pair of $16.50 pajamas thinking okay I'm not going to make it an avocation to find them cheaper. The cashier says "go to the corner sale room, there are different colors, exactly the same all-cotton for $8.99. Big deal o the price difference NO!
But it paid for my Starbucks down the street afterward.
Great place to stock up on tees, thermals for winter and so forth when they are on sale. For the price, you wear them a season and toss them away without regret.
What really impressed me was that she wanted to help me without my even asking.
About once every 6 months I go hog wild at O.N. to buy a bunch of stylish yet affordable seasonal staples. Yesterday I stocked up for an upcoming beach vacation and was thrilled with the fun options I had to choose from. What made this two-hour shopping extraveganza even more enjoyable was the fun music that was playing and the fantastic service I received in the dressing room. New sizes in minutes with a helpful smile. There is a time and a place for fancy shopping, but also a time and a place for some fun stuff that doesn't break the bank. See ya for the winter stock-up!
Problem:
It's cold out.
But I want to be able to layer and still move my arms about with ease.
Solution:
Puffy, black, jacket-vest.
Bloomingdales: $300
Old Navy: $30
That was easy.
Old Navy is usually not my style.
Their colors are always a little too bright, the cuts are a little too boxy, and I never feel like I bought something unique or exciting whenever I walk out of here.
But like alot of people, I don't go to Old Navy for one-of a kind purchases. I come to stock up the affordable basics. I shop here for basic hoodies, basic flip-flops, basic sweat pants, and basic pajamas.
My favorite recent purchases here have been their cashmere mens' sweaters for Holiday presents and their underwear (if you're like me and have trouble scheduling in laundry).
Both are killer bargains - and well worth grabbing now - before craziness descends on shopping insanity Friday.
The biggest and best Old Navy there is. Huge selection of clothing, and when you get ready to make your purchases the line moves pretty fast. I love the clearance racks!
Besides the people that greet you at the front door waiting to attack you with a shopping bag, this Old Navy is alright with me.
I wuv dis store...
This is the best old navy I've found out there and I've been to many, even in other states. This is conveniently located on the corner of 4th and Market (the evil corner, since Ross is also there) so public trans is simple. This is what I would call a megastore because it has multiple floors with lots and lots of selection. I love the clearance here, there is so much to go thru that you can easily get lost and go broke too. Also a plus is that they have a public restroom, its hidden upstairs but convenient none the less. I have gotten many cheap items here. I typically go at lunch time and it can get pretty busy there but the line always moves quickly.
1. Wallet stolen when I put it down on the counter. I'm not kidding. In broad daylight. Brazen. It's on the SURVEILLANCE VIDEO.
2. Employees not very helpful. Could care less that robbery occurred. No suggestion to file report with SFPD (see #4), which is required in order for the cops to watch surveillance.
3. Total byach in the fitting room all irritated because I tried on like a zillion clothes (hired stylist because of pathetic clothes situation - not a shopper usually) and left in chaos. Gave me dirty looks, attitude, general hatred. Geez man, I didn't ask you to work there. WTF.
4. Have to go back to SF to file police report. Old Navy SF customer service sucks.
5. Two stars because one very nice lady working there gave me $3 for BART so I could get the F outta there.
Have a nice day. FU San Francisco. City of thieves and liars, I swear to God.
I don't get why so many people complain about this location. I've been to MANY worst ones. Over here in the east bay, the Old Navy hardly ever restocks on items, has a poor selection and are always the last to get new items in. Whenever I'm in the city and need some cheap yoga pants or tank tops I come here and most of the time their stocked up in my size or something that just came out catches my eye. Another thing I like better about this location than the others is, there are two floors, more space and it's still better organized than some of the others I've been too.
My only complaint is that they've gotten rather pricey since I shopped here in HS and their quality isn't exactly worth shelling out more bucks on. I'd rather head across the street to Forever21 or H&M for nicer clothes and ones that don't shrink as much.
Now that Mervyn's has gone out of business it looks like I'm going to be getting a lot of my clothes from here. I am a T-shirts and jeans kind of gal and this kind of place is perfect for that. I also don't like to be bothered when I shop and the employees here let me go about my business but are pleasant enough when you do approach them, in my experience.
BTW the T-shirt and shorts in my profile pic are from Old Navy and FWIW that is one of my most popular self-portrait photos. :-)
You're A-OK in my book. Play to your strengths: tees, athletic clothing, & novelty items.
Question: Whatever happened to those Morgan Fairchild Old Navy commercials?
Much bigger OLD NAVY than the one in Emeryville (3 stories!!) I got here SAT to get the shorts I had put on hold from Emery Bay but found one left on the floor and wanted to check to see if they REALLLY put it on hold for me...and guess what???????? Well, they did but did not! As I was checking out (couldn't find anything for my husband for the shorts sale/swim sale their sizes are too large, only sucky thing) I asked about my hold and the lady couldn't find it and said the customer service ppl probably put it back at end of the nite. So I asked her why? and then I told her I had the EMERY BAY call the nite before and she explained that holds were only the same day and they should have told me that!!! Oh!!!!! But I was darn lucky they still had my shorts in my size.
After walking around downtown for a good hour, my dogs were barking! What was I thinking wearing heels while walking all over the place? Not a good idea. So I came into old navy for a cheap pair of flip flops. They used to have a variety of shoes. This time, they had some SUPER ugly plastic flip flops in pink or gray. They only had size 5, as all the other sizes seemed to be sold out...
The store is big. Lots of clothes. Kinda messy though. And a BIG TIME tourist trap.
I'm not a fan of any of the stores in this family: Old Navy, Gap, BR, etc etc.
However, where else can you find baby clothes for $10? And really cute ones too.
They have all kinds of baby stuff from clothes to shoes, toys, etc. From baby to toddlers. Everything is on the 3rd floor.
This is the one aspect of clothes shopping where quality doesn't matter so much. Cuz a baby will outgrow the clothing in a month so it doesn't matter if it isn't meant to last a long time.
Well, at one point I really liked Old Navy untill I found more interesting clothes in other stores like Gap, H&M, Mango, Zara and others.
Old Navy just doesn't really "wow" me. It's pretty predictalbe and their clothes are similar to each other, just a 1 season flick.
I shop here for Gizmo, my teacup Yorkie. He loves the holiday shirts and sweaters. I also come here when I need cute beach sandals asap that won't bother me if they get dirty. Also if I'm in downtown for the day, and its cold, and I forgot my jacket, Old Navy has a quick fix and nice mix of gloves and scarves that doesn't tear into my Starsucks account.
This Old Navy is on Steroids! Seriously...4 huge floors to shop on. Each floor is specific to Male, Female, and Kids. Granted they have a lot of square footage but they fill the space with a lot of he same stuff.
Great deals are to be found here but beware....it gets super crowded and the line to pay can get really long!
This has got to be the biggest Old Navy I have ever been to. It was a bit overwhelming but they had the cutest bikinis.
Why were the shoppers in the clearance area so aggressive? The prices weren't that low. Not low enough for me to elbow you in your ribs.
It's the biggest Old Navy I have ever been to. Great variety nice stuff. I never leave without buying stuff. It has the best clearance section. It's like 3 or 4 floors in the store. I have been going there for years and it's great.
I am an Old Navy fan, but not the die hard -
arms full to the brim of cheap tops, pushing to make it to the clearance isle, throwing things into the air trying to find your size, hair a mess due to the sweating trying things on, clerk yelling at, line cutting
type of Old Navy fan.
These people seem to congregate in this Old Navy. It's like they have never seen a clearance rack before and finding the size they need will happen (even if it means almost knocking you over). But, I have bought some cute pieces here before. Just make sure to hand wash everything! Don't want that $10 shirt to disintegrate before your eyes.
My favorite place to steal from, some days me and my friends would pick up over a g in a day worth of crappy disposable shit made by the gap (but only when I was in high school).
Death to corporations. We got to take back the streets.
Also, good for basics :)
When I was a kid, I thought WOW a multi floored Old Navy! That is like the raddest thing EV-ER. After years of avoidance, this place has now become the UN-raddest place EV-ER..well at least for me it is. Old Headache, Old garbage, Old Navy...same difference.
Okay, yeah I admit this place is a deal for clothes you wear once and throw out. Seriously sweaters stretch like stretch arm strong the minute you toss em in the wash...arm holes & pockets in places you'd never discover on a sweater. I guess a bang for your buck, but the prices speak for their selves. Who expects awkwardly fitting clothes to be expensive anyways? No offense to anyone who shops here, but I guess my taste for fashion has upped a little more since I've been "growing up."
I thought it would be fun to go on a headache rampage up and down the escalators to more annoying clothes. I guess some clothes for "pj attire" is the only thing worth getting here for me.
Hey remember their jingle during winter time....Old Naaavy Old Naaaavy performance fleece. Now I remember why I stopped shopping here. Years ago, I thought it was cool to buy a "puff jacket" (aka down jacket) here. A month later a flat jacket, to which I could've rebuilt a whole goose with all the feathers lost.
A headache, but I guess cheap clothes if you don't expect much. I suggest a New Navy....
P.S. what happen to the downstairs?
- Frequent Sales
I managed to snag 3 basic tees (around a dollar each), denim shorts ($3.00 each) and just recently, they are having 60% off sale where I purchased an over-sized cardigan originally priced 40 dollars and a stripped sweater.
- Friendly, helpful, staff
I had inquired an employee about whether they had a pair of glorious flats in my size and they had returned two minutes later with a pair.
- Multiple floors (Women's, Men's, Girls', Boys')
Went in today to return one thing, and then came out with five. Sigh... I see a sale sign, and I can't help myself. Lots of comfy tops and bottoms to mix and match. Nothing fancy, but things you can wear casually or dress up with the right accessories.
Totally scored on some cute tanks and a skirt. Gotta get my hot weather wear for Vegas! Whatever looks good with my 50+ SPF.
I love Old Navy.
I come here for regular tees...yes I have all colors mostly.
Its cheap, its functional, what more can you ask for.
Staff are friendly and efficient for as long as its not the rush holidays season...LOL
Sorry to see all these bad reviews but I got nothin but luv for Old Navy!
Grow out of my closet b/c of too many treats & need that 2-sizes bigger pants to hold me over till I can fit back into my closet? Old Navy sets me up right & for a decent price......b/c let's face it, I'm in denial that I will truly be that size forever & I WILL get back in my closet & refuse to invest a fortune in this ridiculous size I've "temporarily" grown to.
Mind you, you need to get there when the stuff comes out or you're stuck w/ choices of a size 0 or size 22....but when you can find those pants or skirt, or sweater, or whatever & in your size, feels just like Christmas!
Also great spot for shorts & summer-ie things & lots of variety from the butt-cheek-showing shorty shorts, to Bermudas & everything in between.
Find a cute pair of shoes to mill around & for me, they've held up fine.
I say again, nothin, nothin, absolutely nothin but luv for Old Navy!!
****************THIS REVIEW WILL EXPIRE IN 60 DAYS***************
Right ***NOW*** you can get a cute string bikini from Old Navy for half the price of Victoria's Secret, Macy's, J Crew or wherever else you might be tempted to go - $12.50 for tops and bottoms ($25 total). They have a large selection and the ties at the sides of the bottoms make sure they fit around your (and my) big ass. Come on, it can't be that bad, if I can bare my ass, you can (just cuz I'm skinny doesn't mean my ass looks good in a bikini). Throw caution to the wind ladies, the fact that you are exposing skin is so sexy that it will override a few cellulite dimples. If you can't bare to expose that much ass, Old Navy has cute skirts and shorts to go with their bathing suits. I even got some little terry cloth shorts from their work out clothes section. These aren't your momma's sarogs and cover ups, they're pretty cute. They even have those Charlie's Angels terry cloth onesies.
String bikinis also make little to medium-sized boobies look great.
No I didn't just buy stock in Old Navy; like you, I know that with few exceptions, Old Navy clothes fit weird and aren't made well. After a few washes, their underwear starts to sag. Generally, their clothes are bad.
However, I buy work out clothes there cuz I don't care how they fit. I've also found cute casual polo shirts there.
I'm sure the Old Navy bikini I brought will be a holey, ragged mess by the end of the summer. By that time, they'll probably be out of style anyway. It's cool, I know where I can buy another one for cheap.
I loooooove Old Navy! It's such a fun place to go clothes shopping, and unless you have poor self-restraint, you're not goinna walk out of there broke as joke. I always curse myself not bringing a pen so I can jot down the lyrics to the awesome music they play in the background for later obtention.
Cool styles + affordable prices + great music = Yay!
Are you a size 2 or 18?
Do you wear XXXS or XXXL?
If you've answered "NO" to these questions, please do not enter - we have nothing for you. Thank you for shopping at Old Navy.
