Yes we liked it.  Easy to find.  You would never guess it was so close to Downtown Monterey from the inside of the house or from the gardens even.
We got there and they had my favorite thing waiting just for me.   Cheese and Port.   Well maybe not just for me, but you get the idea.
They also had a couple of wines out too.
The living room was very inviting.  Play with the calidascope if you get the chance.  Gigi was great.  She was full of local info and suggestions for dinner and she makes a great breakfast.
Take a small walk in the garden.  Sit and soak up the rays.
Close your eyes and listen to the birds(crows).  Drowned out the firetruck.   I guess someone fell and couldn't get up.  I know, not nice.
The room was very comfortable.  Clean and warm.
A great lil jacuzzi tub with Chilled Champange and Bucelli in the back ground.  His music not him.
Breakfast in bed was.. Wow. Hot waffles with berries and fruit..  Fresh OJ and birds outside the window (not Crows) and one of Obama's books.  We had a great time.

A Monterey Bed and Breakfast Worth Every Penny!
We've been coming to Monterey California for years and just love this charming little bed and breakfast. Actually, "little" isn't the correct word as the inn is rather expansive with another room or cottage around every corner and up every little flight of stairs. I've never been in such a unique dwelling and from the moment you arrive it conjures up images of English novels. The B&B is an ivy covered English Tudor with beautiful gardens set in a quiet neighborhood not far from downtown Monterey. The B&B is everything the downtown Monterey hotels are not whether you're talking about the exterior or the luxury and cozy feeling of the rooms.

We've stayed in two rooms at the B&B - the first time in the Garden Cottage (WOW!) and the second in the Brighstone Suite. Each room had a different feel. We loved the solitude of the Garden Cottage and the fireplace/Jacuzzi tub combo of the Brighstone Suite.

Breakfast was served in a formal dining room with a large fireplace and a roaring fire. I've stayed at hotels around the world and nothing in a hotel compares to the luxury of these rooms and the breakfast experience.

The staff was wonderful and helped us find the best places for lunch and dinner in Carmel and Monterey - most of which we'd never heard of before but which were exquisite!

If you're going visit Monterey or Carmel and aren't looking for a rubber-stamp hotel experience, ditch the hotels in downtown Monterey and visit one of the most romantic little bed and breakfasts I've ever seen - you won't regret it.

Okay, I admit, I was a little swayed by the fact that I got engaged the weekend we stayed here, but seriously, this is a stunning B&B in Monterey. Romantic, decadent, private, charming. And you can even get in-room massages (with or without champagne).

The rooms are lush and extremely comfortable, and each one - as it should be for a special occasion - is uniquely styled. So it's a little Laura Ashley, but hey, if you want a ranch house, go to Durango.

The only thing I might complain about was the breakfast, which was WAY over the top and was basically a heart-attack on a plate.   I will definitely keep some great memories from our stay. And I definitely recommend booking well in advance (right, T?)  Here's the site http://www.oldmonterey...

Yes, a little (okay, a lot) out my league, but we splurged last night!

Probably the most beautiful, romantic place you could imagine.  Amazing old ivy-covered English Tudor mansion close to downtown Monterey.  Grounds and gardens to die for.  Flawless service, rooms, bathrooms, you name it. Aveda bath products, chocolates, fresh cookies, hot coffee and tea and wine/appetizers in the lounge/lobby.  All this plus totally incredible breakfast to be served either in the dining room or in your room....loved that!

They thought of everything here and carried it out to absolute perfection.  Many rooms have gigantic whirlpool tubs with tiny jars of Aveda bath salts and tealight candles.  That alone made me a very happy girl!

We stayed in the "Chawton" room.  Its super tiny, but so charming and sweet with a big bathroom, fireplace, and private entrance.   Even better, this place doesn't make the mistake of having decor that reminds you of your girly childhood bedroom with frilly crap all over the place!

Hurry up and make a reservation for you and your luvaaah. It's pricey. It's worth it.

Granted, this was quite a while ago...

We got a sweet deal, I mean cheap, but that was the only reason it got 2 stars.  We didn't expect great things, b/c of what we paid, but we weren't prepared for the invasion.

Ants, everywhere.  The tub, the TV armoire, the bed. (((Shiver)))

My husband surprised me with a weekend away here for our anniversary.  We had the Garden Cottage which is their largest (and most expensive) room and it was truly spectacular.

They brought us breakfast in bed each morning (which you can only do in the detached cottages) and the jacuzzi tub with the skylight above it was absolutely perfect.

The gardens were spectacular, the staff was extremely accommodating, and the appetizers and wine in the evening were quite nice.

WOW it is expensive tho!!  But nice for the occasional splurge!

My husband took me here for our first getaway. We have stayed here 3 times for major celebrations, and will continue to come back! We love this home away from home. Why stay in an impersonal hotel when you can have a fabulous room, wonderful service, and relaxing privacy??  We have stayed at in the Library Room and the Mayfield Suite and have loved both. If you are looking for a special getaway we absolutely recommend the Old Monterey Inn!

My boyfriend and I had an amazing experience here. They upgraded us to a private room where we essentially had the building to ourselves. The bath, fireplace and bed were all exquisite. The hospitality is amazing. The free happy hour food and drink was delicious as was the breakfast. Can't rave enough. Perfect romantic weekend!

My husband and I spent two nights at the Old Monterey Inn when we attended a wedding at the Monterey Marriott, a short walk from the inn. We stayed in the room called The Library. We stayed there once before 12 years ago on an anniversary. I cannot say enough about how much I love this inn. The grounds are well manicured and great for a little birding. A great place to pick up a book and read. The inn is so well maintained and beautiful. Our room was just perfect with a small outdoor patio, leather chairs to enjoy a real wood fireplace.. a true cozy experience. Breakfast was one day in the room by the fireplace and the other day at the family table where we were able to talk to some great couples traveling through. Patty and her staff were extremely accommodating throughout our stay, giving us privacy when we wanted it and helpful with great suggestions when asked. This is a very special place, one you will not forget and will want to return ... as we did and will again. Oh ... and the breakfasts were over the top delicious!

The most romantic, elegant, luxurious service B&B in Monterey. I had the most awesome 3 night stay there with the boyfriend back in July. One of the best home away from home vaca spots you can hit up for young and old a like.

Nestled away on a windy little road lays a quaint lovely little get away this place is remarkable ! Cottage chic and clean with absolutely tasteful amenities there is a hot tub and fireplace side by side which makes the ambiance of the place they give you aveda products and natural french soaps like vebrena and lemon grass a plus in my book!!There is a stalked fridge with a variety if drinks and healthy snacks, Down stairs is a beautiful set dinning room the kind you picture thanksgiving dinner should be held in. There is a lounge area where there is  a piano and pistachios, chocolates, teas cocoa chai and more this place is by far a 5 star stay. All the linens and  bedding are Italian made the sheets are high thread count they have goose down pillows and even little birds that like to perch outside the windows to wake u up before your breakfast In bed that arrives @9:00 am sharp ! I had the quiche and peach cobbler and freshly made juice that had banana slivers in it that made it only all the more delicious this place is all about the details... fine tuning what a bed and breakfast should be I highly recommend it it's so far has made it to my top 2008 destinations by far !  To top all this off there was a little notebook that was started a couple years ago and all the guest add to the story it's turned into a mystery with a ghost and the tale of a woman by the name of Elizabeth well don't want to ruin the story you should check it out for your self so if you have that special someone you might just go and fall in love all over again or maybe for the first time ! old Monterey inn is my new found gem :)

I've stayed in many many hotels and inns all over the world, and I can honestly say that this was among, if not *the*, best weekend stay I've ever had.  We went to celebrate our 5th wedding anniversary, and there was a small bottle of champagne waiting for us when we arrived...

The building and grounds are beautiful, close to the local sites but tucked away so that it's quiet.  Our room, the Brighstone Suite, was spacious and beautiful --  perfectly furnished with quality fabrics and furniture (not over the top or with a bunch of crap all over the place), with amazing windows overlooking the yard and lovely old trees.  The service was wonderful, with our breakfast brought to the room each morning --- we're not the type who likes to "get to know" the other guests over breakfast, so it was *wonderful* to have the option to eat in our bathrobes in front of our room's fireplace by ourselves.  The staff were there when we needed them, but never in our faces & never rushing us, and my experience with Meg, the massage therapist I saw for a facial, was incredibly relaxing and enjoyable.  The public rooms are comfortable & beautiful, and the hors de'ouvres served in the evening along with the cookies and beverages at night are such a nice touch.  The water pressure was great, the tub was perfect, the bed was comfortable, the fireplace easy to use, there were robes & slippers, and they gave us chocolate for the road when we left -- i could just go on and on.  Yes, it's expensive, but it's worth it -- we plan to go back again and again to celebrate our anniversary for years to come.

A charming old mansion tucked away in a quiet neighborhood away from the hubub of Cannery Row.  Fantastic service, beautiful gardens.  Breakfasts were incredibly rich and almost inedible.  Otherwise, a special place to visit.

My husband surprised me with a night's stay at the Old Monterey Inn for my birthday a couple of years ago. We stayed in one of the rooms in the outbuilding -- for just one night -- and loved the luxurious indulgence. Having a crackling fire at the foot of our bed while we laid on super-high-thread-count sheets was such a richly sensual experience. We had a jacuzzi tub, and even Internet access (when romance isn't the ONLY thing on your mind). I can't say I've stayed in that many world-class inns, but I've splurged occasionally, and this was definitely one of the best
