See, this is why you should sign up for their email updates!

I just got an email from the Kearneys, announcing dates for my beloved soup days.  November 1 & 2 will be roasted red pepper or butternut squash soups.  November 8 & 9 will be cream of mushroom or pumpkin with gruyere cheese (this one is awesome).  $7 includes bread and a bowl of piping hot soup.  I'm going to try and make a stop for my tasty pumpkin soup!

Very good, not great.  Definitely a must see, but not the greatest.  For me, its the reds that fail, not badly, but just aren't the greatest in the state by a margin.

The whites are great, and the unique wines are among the best.  Their ice-like wine is about the best in the state, if not the.

I'll start a new paragraph because I feel this is important.  The champagne (sparkling wine) is the best in the state.  They mentioned that they had a French vintner, and he made it by the book.  The second fermentation in the bottle, etc.  It's lovely, a bit pricey, but that's the way it works here in VA.

I'll let it stand at that, they're all good, but not too special besides the two I mentioned above.  Give it a shot, you wont' be disappointed, especially for the view, its actually a top 5 VA winery view.  I'd love to spend more time just hanging out there.

Upgraded to five stars.  This winery is really wonderful.  A re-visit this weekend confirmed that.  They have a new winemaker from southern France (Damian) and the wines have improved greatly.  (Although they were quite good to begin with...)   They have a dry sparkling wine, which in "wine terms" really means sweet.  One of the few VA wineries that has a sparkling wine, and it's good but not being a fan of, a-hem, champagne myself it's not something I would drink.  The chambourcin is another VA winner, and their Clover Hill vidal blanc is a dead ringer for pinot grigio.  The inside of the house is just as charming as I remembered, and the chess theme lives in this place in the "study" and the picnic area.   And the people who work here are delightful.  I'd now rank it as one of the best in the state.

My back roads route home from the Virginia Renaissance Faire took me past the sign for Old House Vineyards, and so of course, I could not pass up the opportunity to visit.

The winery is very scenic looking - the house is a restored 18th century building, the family that runs the winery lived in the building for a time, then built a separate home - which is the large structure visible to your left as you are driving up towards the winery.

My wine pourer/hostess for my visit was the daughter of the winery owner - a lovely young lady whose name escapes me at the moment.

I tasted all of the wines that they had available for tasting, all were pretty good wines - none of them sucked - and several of them were quite good, including the an Samhradh (which I believe is Gaelic for friend, or something like that - she told me but I'm not sure now of the meaning), and the Wicked Bottom wine. I ended up buying a bottle of each.

This is the most beautiful winery/vineyard you will ever visit.  It's located in Culpeper, VA and totally worth the drive no matter where you're coming from.  This winery is family owned and operated and you can see all of them (including the kids) on the grounds.  When you get there, you'll notice it's an old house (duh)!  They have a life size chess game outside and a big pond in the middle of the grounds that you can walk out to the middle of.  (They do have weddings here...beautiful view!)  You'll also notice a castle-like building on the property..that is where the family lives.  It's so awesome.

Pack a picnic and bring a group (or just your significant other!)...this is the perfect way to spend a day.

Nice wines, but this place is a bit strange. Ask the owner about the sailboat in the backyard and the pond. Also ask him about his own house that is built are down the road from the winery. It's quite a theme house.

The man-made cone-shaped pond is a little strange, but the wines are good. All the pourers that I've had have been really nice, and will tell you all about the house itself if you're interested.
